By the time it was our turn, I had zero doubts we were in great hands. We brought in a gold-on-cowhide Garuda from Thailand and had a vision: two panes of glass with a sleek, minimal frame. Leslie was meticulous, explaining every step, recommending plexiglass over glass, and even hunting down a hard-to-find frame to complete the look. When my husband spotted a small area that needed repair, she reassured us that Omer, the conservator, would handle it with care. Terrible customer service…read more Spent a lot of money to have a nice picture framed after being recommended to this place. When we received it back it was not centered in the frame. Owner said that she normally asks, which she did not, and never bothered to reach out over 2 months to see if we wanted our picture centered. You'd think that's pretty common knowledge that you'd want something centered in a picture frame you're spending $400 on, but maybe that's just me. Said it would be a minimum of $140 to attempt to fix - even though this was her mistake - and could possibly need to purchase an entire new frame for upwards of $300. Now making our simple framing project cost over $800. Absolutely ridiculous for a mistake that was theirs. Despite the unwillingness to help find a solution, I still would have reluctantly spent the money to have this fixed. That was until she got incredibly rude and loud with my wife and kicked her out of the store. If you want to spend money to have a picture framed off center, and then get yelled at when you're unhappy with the final product, then this is the place for you!

I have had extremely mixed experiences with Ace Photo for more than a decade. I'm a longtime film…read moreand digital photographer, and camera repair technician. Sometimes I've gotten good products for a good value; other times it's been really disappointing or even felt like being cheated or disrespected. I'll just tell a few stories from the years; you decide. About 5-6 years ago I bought a set of used lenses from their website. The items were well-priced and essentially new. I couldn't see any evidence of prior use. I've used them extensively and this was a great buy. In the past couple of years I bought a large format film camera from the website. It had a lens cone but no lens, and I emailed them prior to purchase to try to figure out what focal length the cone was made for, because it wasn't visible in the photos. A very basic question; the resulting emails proved that they a) had no clue what I was asking, b) had no idea of their ignorance, and c) were condescending, implying that I didn't know what I was shopping for. I gave up, bought it on faith, and as expected, the answer I needed was clearly engraved in large type on the cone. I assume the rep was looking at the website photos instead of the camera, and not seeing what I was asking for, tried to brush off what should have been a trivial question. But there was another problem. The camera was damaged after photographing for the website, in a visually obvious way, and they shipped it to me knowing it was broken (held together with a rubber band). I wrote back to ask for a discount, explaining that I was competent to machine a replacement part (this camera is out of production and there is no parts source, so that was the only option). The discount I received was insultingly small, but I kept the camera. Finally, in-person. I try to visit brick-and-mortar camera stores, and Ace had been on my list for years. It was so-so. First, I was greeted by the familiar claim that it's the largest camera store in the mid-Atlantic; I'd expected to spend 2-3 hours as I often do, but actually 20-30 minutes was plenty to browse everything. Definitely not the largest store in the mid-Atlantic, and I know firsthand. Still, I was interested in a couple of items. I asked about a discount on a vintage lens I would enjoy repairing, and was bluntly told they do not negotiate. I then explained that this lens had serious issues, and was told, again bluntly, that the shelf I got it from all had issues and was priced accordingly. That irritated me: the person was bluffing; they didn't know which shelf I'd gotten it from, and it was not a gear-with-issues shelf nor priced accordingly. They obviously thought it was in top condition and the price was delusionally high even if it'd been mint. Nonetheless, I mildly asked them to take a look at the glaring defects and see if they thought it was worth reconsidering. Two people tried to look at it, in clumsy ways that would never work; obviously totally inexperienced, but they kept squinting uselessly and then looking at me with scornful expressions like I was trying to scam them. I told them how to do it, but they condescendingly ignored me and kept doing it wrong, so I said more firmly, "let me show you." So I showed them something no reasonably competent person would have missed, and they took it back to ask the boss who said "no, price is firm." OK, fine; I asked about another item, whose tag listed a complete kit but half of the kit had obviously been sold off separately. The person looked on the website and said "that's how it is on the website so that's how it is." Again, just a blunt customer-is-wrong response, combined with customer-is-annoying tone. Despite this, two of the other staff members WERE really helpful and attentive, and seemed knowledgeable, hence why I call this a so-so experience. I've given a small but representative sample of many more stories I could tell here, and I think I'm done with Ace after the in-person visit. Life's too short to support people who run businesses like customers are just a money source to be sucked dry. I can't look past the 50/50 good-to-bad ratio anymore. Mistakes and occasional miscommunications etc are expected; a consistently higher than usual number of these kinds of bad interactions are symptomatic of something deeply wrong overall, and after reading other Yelp reviews I realize I'm not alone. (Update: Robert's response to this review really confirms my opinions.) I have more great options elsewhere than I can name here, and plan to give them my business in the future. Locally I recommend Pro Camera in Charlottesville, Southeastern Camera in Raleigh, Ball Camera in Asheville, KEH and PPR in Atlanta, among others. Online and further distant from this area, I recommend especially KEH, MPB, Roberts Used Photo Pro, National Camera, Midwest Photo, B&H, Adorama, Blue Moon Camera & Machine, Film Photography Project, Brooklyn Film Camera, and TheDarkroom film processing lab.

The store times are quite limited and given they are the only store in the DMV linked to the swim clubs, getting here involved me taking time off from work during a weekday!

The only reason I'm giving them two stars. After ringing the bell for help, a woman appeared and I explained to her what I needed and what size I thought he might need. She immediately looked at me like I had no clue what I was talking about and her facial expressions and huffs were enough to clearly make me get it that she was the superior swim-jammer knower. After a painful back and forth to determine the proper size (the jammers I bought were a different brand than the team ones and therefore run different size-wise) I was able to get what I needed. I started laughing mid conversation with her as I felt there was no possible way someone could be that unkind to the first customer of the day (it was 10:05am where I arrived, they open at 10:00am). I ever had the courage to ask about a team backpack which pushed another button with her it seemed. She commented that I must have missed the team store shop time or be new, which I calmly replied to as, "yeah, we just moved here from out of state and are newer to the sport. My son is elementary school age, I'm learning." Not one positive emotions in return. Needless to say, unless it is absolutely necessary to buy an item from here in the future, I will NOT be returning.

I *hate* trying to park in Leesburg, but have no fear, you can safely park here. There's no oncoming traffic or crazy tiny spaces. Once inside you will be floored by the selection. This is Beadazzled but better. They have *plenty* of gemstone hanks in different shapes and sizes. Everything is extremely reasonably priced for what's on offer. They have miyuki shoji beads. They have a whole rainbow of seed beads in different sizes (6/0, 8/0, 10/0) if you're a Native crafter and are looking to really do some serious work on your regalia. I bought some amazing jasper ovals, some very nice glass globe beads that look like the ocean, and some tiny malia bloom beads. They hold classes here and help the community by helping the Girl Scouts and other entities. These folks really care about their neighbours, so please support them.

I was not told that I ordered a item not stocked and now we still haven't received it and is costing our project significant delays since we can't pass inspection without this item so construction has been stopped. I've called my rep Valerie multiple times and left voicemails and also called the store directly. No one answered or returned my calls any of the times. We had a first-class experience with Dominion Lighting and, specifically with Josh Mollet as our…read moredesigner. We are building a home remotely in the mountains of North Carolina, but are fortunate enough to live close to Dominion. It is certainly overwhelming to consider the scope and scale of a new build, and to think about what you would like the lighting to look like and how you would like it to function when the space doesn't even exist. We had the absolute best time working with Josh. First, he helped us hone our aesthetic vision, and to build cohesion into the lighting design. He also helped us wrestle with the technical challenges of recessed lighting in high slope ceilings. Through the entire process, he gave us the confidence we needed to easily make decisions and to put the vision into action for our home. Throughout the entire process, Josh was highly responsive, he communicated with clarity, and he had a fantastic sense of humor, challenging each of us appropriately when we were stuck in some kind of rut. His efficiency is remarkable and his design eye and skill is obvious. On top of all of this, he produced documentation that clearly conveyed the plan to our electrician, making our recent electrical walkthrough the best one he had ever been on. The electrician told us that most of the time people arrive with little to no clue of what they want, and it is a laborious, frustrating and overwhelming process. We arrived with our Josh plans and knew exactly where things were going to be and what they would look like. We are very excited to see this house come into reality. We know the lighting we selected will bring warmth and beauty to to spaces, both interior and exterior, and we feel that Dominon and Josh provided great value to us and our project.
