Are you planning on flying your dog, cat or other accepted animal to another country?…read more My first bit of advice: DO ALL YOUR RESEARCH AND PREP well in advance. WELL IN ADVANCE my friends. I've literally been working on this for a few months and it feels like a full-time job. But I love her, so there you go. Depending on where you are going the laws differ, but I am going to the UK...so it's monumentally crazy and insane. But not impossible. You can do it on a short time line...but its stressful even with a long one, so to each their own. But I am bringing her with us. Tillie is going to be British! She loves the Queen. And thus, I visited the USDA office for Illinois. Make an appointment in advance. They are nice on the phone. Luckily for us Chicagoland people this is quite conveniently located in Des Plaines, just off I-90 and near O'Hare airport. It's very near the Rivers Casino just west of the highway in a complex with white buildings. You'll drive back into the lot where a few more buildings are...then park your car (free) and walk around to the second (back) entrance. You'll go through security, and be checked in. What you'll need to get their good old stamp of approval for your pet to fly: *health certificate (from your veterinarian) with the below items: *current Rabies vaccination cerificate. *dogs: treated for tape worm no more than 5 days before flight and not more than 1 day before - vet signature. *current Rabies vaccination certificate. *proof of microchip inserted BEFORE most recent rabies vaccination. *sticker from microchip. You bring them all of these things (and as you can see, this is all a huge feat in itself!) and pay them $38 and you'll get all of your documents stamped so your furry friend can fly the friendly skies. *cashier's check or credit (all forms) accepted. (no cash). This completes your documentation for the US side (for the most part) but you surely need to visit this office if you are going out of the country with your pet...so there you have it, hope this helped a bit!

Make an appointment. Do not just show up- you will have to sign in and go through security…read more Get your paperwork all in order with your regular vet and you have this office sign and stamp it. The people were incredibly friendly in what was a very stressful situation for me. They clarified a few of my questions over the phone so I was sure I was showing up with the right papers and even accommodated me with an earlier appointment time the day of my flight out.

Truth be told the first time I heard someone say defund the police I thought they were crazy. Today…read moreI couldn't agree more. Example 1: Friday the 15th of March 2024 at around 10:50 I had to pull over on the side of the side of the Rosemont Village Building because my tire had popped pretty badly. I called AAA with 2% on my phone battery and they never came. I called my dad also and it took him about an hour and a half maybe two to get there from where we live. I waited outside my car, hazards on, visibly flat tire, with a dead phone for my dad. In that time, I watched countless police officers go in and out. I watched them trade weapons from the artillery in their trunks including automatic rifles, pistols, and tasters. I watched them get dressed up in head-to-toe camo and bullet proof vests as if readying for war. Not once in the two hours I sat outside their office did a single officer that looked my way asked if I needed assistance when all I needed was help putting on a spare tire. When my dad did come to help me, they watched him work alone. Never once seeming inclined to help the public they "serve." Example 2: Two weeks ago, on my way home from work at around 1:30 I was taking 294 from O'Hare back towards Downers Grove. I got stuck behind an "oversized load" labeled truck going around 30MPH in a 65. I got into the neighboring lane to pass and began to accelerate when a car quickly pulled out in front of me. I had to aggressively slam on my breaks to not hit them. Again, I tried to pass and again they blocked me this time flashing lights from an undercover police car and quickly turning them off. I followed the car for about a mile unsure how to procced. After an uneventful mile I again tried to pass the truck, this time going TWO lanes to my left from the right lane. The cop then followed and turned his lights on to pull me over. When stopped he claimed I was pulled over for improper lane use telling me "I can't slide all the way to the left to cut back to the right. I know what you're doing, not on my watch" When I had only moved two lanes in a four to five lane section of highway, all the while staying within the permitters of the speed limit. I cannot believe that would hold up as improper lane use. This officer was pulling me over for intentions he guessed I had, that I'm not sure are even a crime. I don't remember learning in drivers ed that it's "improper" to pass oversized trucks on the highway that are going at least 20 under the speed limit. Having no actual reason to pull me over he let me go. Example 3: I had a domestic situation in my home a few months back when a tenant of my home (I'm a tenant not an owner as well) had the police arrive looking for him. Displeased with how I handled the news (I told his dad) he went into my living space broke parts of the chandelier off and flipped a table across the room and threw some of my things around while I was gone. I texted about the situation saying, "Did you really destroy and vandalize private property out of anger that you were caught destroying and vandalizing public property?" to which a picture of my cat was sent back with a gun pointed to his head. I called the police back to the house fully intending to press charges. BUT was surprised to learn there is no charge to be pressed. They can't help me until he actually shoots the cat. Because at their core police are here to respond to crime NOT prevent it. It is for these reasons, of my own experience, I fully support defunding the police and redirecting funds to actual social services with de-escalation training that can work to prevent crime. Not just a bunch of cops on a power-trips who do nothing for the betterment/help of the public. This is not to say I don't think there should be a better system to REPLACE police, but how would more police funding prevent crime when police themselves are OPENLY not there to stop crime but to WAIT for it?
