No replenishing. No communication. If you are going to charge over $300 a night, care about your customers. Having stayed at boutique hotels here and in the UK, the skimpy breakfast option provided was disappointing.....well, it was nonexistent. Cereal and fruit were empty. I don't expect a European spread, but a simple continental breakfast was, in fact, part of the reservation. We finally just left. Post-survey, nobody followed up. Customer service was so terrible (other than the people working the front desk). The front desk team was helpful and professional. So, clean room and front desk team was great, comfort and customer service were nonexistent. Not a good experience AT ALL.

The property looked…read morealmost empty, but we still had to wait for the hard 4:00 p.m. check-in and were told our room was not ready. The stairs to our room looked worn out and run-down -- the first red flag. When we opened the door we were hit in the face with a strong mildew smell mixed with an overwhelming chemical perfume. Even my wife could smell it, and she lost most of her sense of smell after COVID. The carpet tiles should have been replaced about 20 years ago. I've been in the carpet business for 40-plus years. I know carpet. The rest of the room felt dated except for new ceiling lights. Housekeeping used so much perfume and cleaner to cover the old-carpet odor that it was over the top. Anytime I was in the room I felt dizzy. Dinner at The King's Arms was wonderful. That night we went to bed exhausted and woke up extremely dizzy and nauseous. I could not get out of bed until my wife went to CVS for Dramamine. We were supposed to take our daughter on rides at Busch Gardens that day. The Dramamine helped during the day. The second I walked back into the room, the spinning started again. I did not ask for another room that night because I assumed every room was treated the same. We booked the Woodland Inn, left most of our things at Kingsmill so we could catch the waterpark shuttle in the morning, spent the day at the waterpark, and came back to the same mildew, chemical smell, and dizziness. At that point I was sure it was the room -- not food poisoning, not heat. Online research confirmed those cleaning products can cause exactly this. We moved to the Hilton Garden Inn. Relief. I paid for two extra hotels out of pocket. Friends stayed here the week before. The wife said it did not feel clean and told us to go somewhere else. Her husband said it was nice. We should have listened to her. Four days later I am still dizzy and waking up with a headache. I emailed a manager. He said he talked to housekeeping, they noticed no chemical smell, and they work with those products every day. He took one night off the bill. I will not recommend Kingsmill. They spent millions on a spa and gym for residents and left guest rooms with old carpet and heavy chemical perfume. Do not stay here if you are sensitive to odors. Copy the body into both Google and TripAdvisor. Use the title on TripAdvisor only. If you want a shorter Google-only cut (roughly half this length), say so and I'll trim it.

The refrigerator is small and almost holds one bottle of water. i'm not sure how they do it but they find the most abrasive covering for the furniture .. just like the bath towel. There is a desk with electrical outlets, but there are zero USB ports in the room. The electric clock was the same one I had as a kid in 1970! And last, but certainly not least the toilet is the smallest toilet I have ever seen in my entire life. Unless of course, you compare to the bathroom in the kids Barbie house. I don't know who General smalls is, but I'm sure he doesn't want his name on this building.

And to make it worse I was recovering from surgery and was a week out from going back to work so it was supposed to be a special trip. I called the front desk to let them know of the issue but said we'd stay in the room for the night since it was late but that I wanted to be moved the next morning. They of course apologized and said moving wouldn't be a problem. I stopped by the next morning and they assured me they were going to move me to a different room and would call to let me know when it was ready. They did move us to a much better room along the lines of what I expected. They also removed one night from our stay. It is a pretty hotel but I am concerned with the judgement of putting paying guests into the first room we were in. They gave excuses of a wedding and funeral but then just take the room offline and move us to another hotel for a night. We've stayed at The Jefferson, The Historic Cavalier and other luxury hotels and this one fell far short.

I feel so strongly about sharing my recommendation to stay here that this is my first-ever (and possibly only) Yelp review. The rooms, property, restaurant quality food, and service were impeccable. Sherry, Ridge, and Sara are so kind and will go above and beyond to ensure you have the best stay, even communicating months in advance to see if we had any requests. The unlimited ice cream and snack bars, speakeasy and all-seasons room were our favorite amenities, but the list is plentiful. Our room had a private patio with firepit, heated bathroom floors, a soaking tub, and so much more. It was beyond clean and comfortable! The icing on the cake: they are pet-friendly, and even provided organic dog treats to our corgi. We came in March for my birthday (they gave me flowers, a note, and a gift) and are already planning a trip back in the summer to utilize the heated pool, kayaks, bikes, and other outdoor activities. A must-see for a relaxing getaway or event, just a short drive to the charming town of Mathews. Thank you to our hosts for a fantastic weekend!

It's right on Richmond Road but in the historic part of town, and an easy walk to CW or William and Mary. You could even walk to the Dunkin Donuts up the road or a local coffee shop for your shot of java in the morning. You also get a parking pass for on street visitor parking, which is lovely. We stayed in the largest of their rooms - the Treetop Suite, which came with a charming in room fireplace. Having listed all the pros, I wouldn't stay here again. The rooms were in real need of renovation, the bathroom was so small it felt like a Manhattan hotel room bathroom, there were stains in the carpet, and there wasn't a table anywhere large enough to sit and eat or drink despite having ample space for one. I'm also unfortunately very allergic to animals, and we asked repeatedly before booking if pets had been or were allowed in guest rooms. We were told they were not although the owners had dogs. Based on the smell of the room and the fact I sneezed and coughed during my entire stay, I'm calling BS on the pets don't run free when guests aren't around line we got. The owners seemed like lovely people, but they like to get very involved with their guests and their comings and goings. Some people might not mind, but I relish my privacy during vacations. The owners also stood and watched you eat while talking to you during breakfast, which made it all semi awkward. At one point, one of the owner's relatives came into the small dining room during breakfast with her baby and also just stood there and watched you eat. Very uncomfortable for everyone. As for breakfast itself, it's served in a half hour span and consists of one thing (like a quiche) and some kind of breakfast pastry. I can't comment on the food as I didn't have any (I'm a fruit and yogurt for breakfast kind of gal), but my family said it ranged from "ok" to "really not good." The cookies served in the afternoon were very cute, although they too were just OK. Basically, the entire time there I felt like an interloper in their family home, which needed a good facelift in the guest rooms. The B&B has such wonderful potential, and maybe we stayed during an "off" moment for the owners, but next time I'm in Williamsburg I will look to their other charming B&Bs for my lodging needs.
