Awful. We cannot recommend this hotel and in fact would warn people against it. We left at 10 in the evening, just to get away from there. There was no staff in the lobby, there was no cell phone service, nor internet. Some random guy was sitting on a sofa in the lobby. We asked him if he worked there, since there was no one else around. He answered no, but he could call the manager. Which he did. She was apparently at home, ready for bed. We couldn't get out of there fast enough. Skimpy towels, little if any maid service, paper-thin walls and doors--you could hear every footstep and conversation outside the room. There was mold on the shower tiles--simple stuff that a stiff brush would have removed. Ick. Breakfast was a joke, with stale croissants and a paltry buffet. read more

Per the daily room rate and claim of being a 4-star hotel, we arrived at the Wedmore Place anticipating an elegant and charming establishment nestled in a winery and near historic Williamsburg. To our surprise we entered what one could could easily confuse as a hostel (as walls are so thin you can hear every person walking and breathing) and were quickly whisked away to the 18th century where basic customer service and amenities, such as cellular service, WiFi, working tv, a phone, having towels in the bathroom, or even an option to buy bottled water, was simply too far fetched of an idea to fathom. Our visit was very mediocre. The aesthetics are beautiful but the functionality is on par with a 2/3 star travel hotel. We noted a 4pm arrival and arrived 10min before and walked into our room with wine in a melted ice bucket. It must've been placed a while before our arrival. The bathroom was narrow with no hot water in the shower. The sink however only had hot water. Plumbing needs to be addressed. The toilet in the Piedmont room rocked and wasn't secured into the floor. Our room didn't have any towels. We had to request them. Our breakfast was delivered to our room which in theory was nice but the quiche was cold and the yogurt cup was expired. Plus they brought us 2 hot coffees with only 2 half and half's and no sugar. The TV in our room stoped working and staff was supposed to be on sight until 10pm per our welcome email but left at 5. This also prevented us from having a fire in our room. Service was not good and for the price, you can book another place with just as nice of aesthetics with staff that will value hospitality. The two stars are for the very nice people who work there; the staff we encountered were all very eager to be helpful. Unfortunately, it seems management, or the owners, just don't care. It's clear in the state of the hotel and the lack of it's upkeep. I have no idea how this place can call itself 4-star, aren't there simple standards that should qualify it as such? The bad... No WiFi. I don't believe it's a new issue, as indicated. we were handed a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy of a... you get the point. And told, one of the three options 'might work'. Spoiler alert...none did. A real problem for people (like us) who plan their day the night before. Our room had an overwhelming smoky smell - a simple cleaning of the old ashes, in the fireplace, would have made a huge difference. No on site dinner options beyond Thursday - Saturday evening. Breakfast was the same all three days - and appeared to be reheated leftovers even on the first day. The bathtub/shower was dangerous. I'm fairly young and in good shape; even I almost fell attempting to climb in and out. Also, no one answers the phone at the front desk. Ever. Kind staff aside...avoid this place. read more

Such a peaceful spot with lots of history centric things to do close by. Although you could have a peaceful weekend without leaving the Inn because there's a wine tasting room, vineyard and tavern on the grounds. The rooms were decorated in different old European styles. The courtyard and breakfast room overlook each other. They also have a really cute old library. The espresso machines in the room actually made such creamy espresso, I'm considering getting rid of my old stove top one for a Lavazza. Also the toiletries and robes were much nicer than other Inns we've stayed at! read more

My family stayed at this beautiful manor house just minutes from Colonial Williamsburg. I love the atmosphere and the staff was so accommodating. We enjoyed wine at their winery which is part of the estate and the beautiful fountain in the piazza was our favorite place. Their European breakfast was delicious. After wanting a romantic night away, we decided to book a night at Wedmore Place. The building itself is beautiful and full of history. The front desk staff were extremely welcoming and accommodating when checking in as well as throughout our night stay. The room we stayed in was so lovely. I would have stayed an extra night if we could've. We took advantage of going to the winery next door with our complimentary tickets to try our wine flights and really enjoyed ourselves. My fiancee and I stayed here from Virginia Beach doing one of the romantic weekend packages which included a bottle of champagne upon check-in, a wine tasting for two, a $100 gift card to the winery, and a 60 minute couples massage as well as breakfast every morning in the cafe on the lower level. The room was ready at check-in and it was very cute and well-appointed. We stayed in the Gascony room (#9) with a king bed loaded with pillows that was SO comfortable. It had a full bathroom with bath and shower and one sink and a fireplace. Staff at the front were super friendly and welcoming and the property is charming and "old world" with beautiful old decor and a large courtyard area with tables during warmer months. They had the wine flight coupons and our winery gift card ready and waiting for us and I had pre-scheduled the massage for the following day. We walked the property and enjoyed the scenery and enjoyed our lunch and wine tasting on property. It is also only 10 minutes into the town so you are only a few miles away from other dining and shopping and fun options. There were a few issues: -Fires can only be lit with one log which lasts about 1-2 hours, until 9pm at night so you rush back from dinner, and not at all if there is any wind. So we had a fire one night for about 1.5 hours with one small log, and then none the following day due to wind. Huge bummer. -Breakfast was a huge letdown. I have eaten dinner at the restaurant before and enjoyed it but breakfast was not that great. It consisted of some muffins and croissants, fruit, yogurt, cereal, and quiche which was all but completely fallen apart and picked over both days. Staff were friendly and provided tea and coffee and small talk - but this was not what I expected for a "French breakfast" where I thought we would be able to order some hot food options like eggs, crepes, or pancakes. Meh. My fiancee was not impressed at all and we ended up going elsewhere for breakfast the second day. -The couples massage was not that great. I repeatedly had to ask not to be jerked around on the table and the lady kept leaning into my head while trying to get to my back and was pressing my face into the table (she was much larger than me). I said something to her about it twice and asked her not to lean directly on my head anymore because it was uncomfortable. She jerked me around roughly and I kept opening my eyes to see what was happening with my fiancee while I saw him getting what looked like an actual massage... no rough jerks or movements. I asked for it to be more "relaxing" twice and she adjusted somewhat for a few minutes then would return to roughing me up. I'm petite so I don't particularly ask for massages to be super rough. She barely touched my lower back and shoulders at all until I finally asked her if she was ever going to massage them, she said she had 10 minutes left and at the end told me I should book a longer massage to get everything I wanted done. (I kept looking and my fiancee was having his back rubbed for like 25 minutes while she jerked my legs and feet around). Probably the worst massage of my life. I complained to the front desk about the massage experience and the gal up front said she would speak to her supervisor about it but I haven't seen anything yet. My husband and I stayed here for a midweek getaway and had a pretty lovely time! As wine people, the proximity to the tasting room and the gorgeous scenery was a big plus. We spent one entire afternoon just sitting on the patio and enjoying a drink. There are so many great things about this hotel. It's got an excellent old world vibe, the beds are big and comfy, the rooms are spacious, and service is courteous. You can easily drive into the historic part of Williamsburg. I was also worried about the temperature of the room - it's quite large and tall, so I expected the air to be painfully cold to compensate, but our room was always a pleasant temp. I knocked down one star for the terrible sound insulation. I understand that this is an old property, but it's also a hotel where people want to sleep - I should not be able to hear every conversation of the people next door or, the absolute worst, every rumbling footstep of the person above us. It was especially awful the last day when our upstairs neighbor woke up at their usual 7:30 time and spent two hours packing. I didn't bring this up to staff because I had already unpacked and gotten settled in that first night and it felt like quite a hassle to potentially move rooms. I do hope they invest in a way to improve sound insulation, and if I stay here again it would only be on the top floor. read more

Guests smoke marijuana in their rooms and it's supposed to be a non-smoking hotel, the walls are paper thin (no sound proofing), floors make so much noise when anyone walks, and the front desk staff besides Jo and Barb are rude and inconsiderate. Breakfast at the Cafe has completely changed; no more fresh scones or croissants. Even the honey for tea has changed! Stale rock hard quiche and cheese omelette and the Lavazza coffee machine doesn't work. It's clear they're cutting costs but the room rates are still high. Not worth the price to stay here anymore. We paid over $300 per night (plus taxes and fees) for what we expected to be a 1st class experience in Williamsburg. Our reservation included breakfast at this small inn which could have been wonderful had they put in any effort at all. Instead the breakfast fell short of what I would expect to be served at a budget hotel buffet., let alone a resort inn. It featured overcooked, dried-out cheese omelettes that appeared to be left over from the prior day(s), sausages that had been cooking since Monday (we were there on the weekend), and days-old quiche. An asian family sitting next to us spilled a drink as they were leaving. Rather than just clean up the mess quietly, the hostess and cleaning staff complained loudly about it a few feet from our table for all to hear. During our 1st night the temperature in our room was between 75-76 degrees, and adjusting the thermostat did nothing to change the temperature. The 2nd night after coming back from dinner the temperature in our room had climbed to 81 degrees (in December). Again, adjusting the thermostat did nothing. After my 2nd visit to the front desk we were offered to move to another room which we did. We had to pack our suitcases, laptop, toiletries, etc... and move ourselves to another room. When we checked out on Sunday morning, after suffering through the same overcooked cheese omelettes and sausages, we told the manager at the reception desk of the issue with our room. She said that she had heard about the issue and would let maintenance know of the issue, and apologized but said she was glad they had another room that we were able to move ourselves into. She offered us no accommodation on the full 1st class rate that we paid for a 3rd rate experience. My advice is to spend your money elsewhere. read more

This place has a bougie, classic Williamsburg feel to it. The location in the Williamsburg Winery is gorgeous. There's a cute bar/restaurant in the basement and other nice places nearby as well. The decor, views, and natural lighting are cozy and classy at the same time. In addition to the historic vibe, the place is comfortable. The mattress is super thick and we slept like babies! They also provide the room with a lot of towels, which I love. You can light a fire in the room and they'll take care of it for you. The only improvements I'd wish for are small - we could've really used help with luggage and no one was around. Because the place is old, with low and sloped ceilings and thin hallways, a luggage cart is hard to maneuver. I also wish the bathroom had more than one outlet. read more

All I have to say is WOW! My boyfriend got us the Romantic Getaway package as a surprise for my birthday, complete with wine tasting, dinner, and a visit to a museum in Jamestown. The room came with a lovely fireplace and a cozy feel to it. We got breakfast in the morning delivered to the room and it was very safe (all items individually wrapped and delicious). Everyone was super hospitable and I would love to return. If you're into history or anything like that definitely take a visit. We spent four days at this little hotel on a 500 acre winery four miles from downtown Williamsburg. It was amazing. It looks and feels like an old French chateau. The hotel is decorated with beautiful antique furniture, rugs and paintings. The room was small but very comfortable. Every room is named and are all different. I was in the Piemonte room. The room were very European. The bathrooms are small but adequate. Pretend your in Europe and throw away your American "everything must be big and perfect" attitude. All the rooms are centered around an inside open courtyard that has a fountain and tables and chairs. Off the courtyard on the bottom floor there's a library that is great for guests to use anytime. We were there with two other couples and had an impromptu wine and cheese party in there. They also have a lovely pool. Breakfast is included and was in a pretty room overlooking the pool. The food was perfect and attentive service. They have some packages, we did the taste the trail one. It included two brewery tastings, one meadery, and a wine flight at the Williamsburg Winery where the hotel was. We also received a bottle of wine and two glasses, and a $100 gift certificate to use anywhere on the property. We drove but you can fly into Norfolk or Richmond airport. It was about a $100 uber ride from Norfolk airport. I can't wait to come back here again! read more

This place is an adorably cozy little getaway! Although I stayed here while in the area for a work trip, this would be a delightful place to spend the weekend if you're in the mood to be transported to a different era. I have to admit that while I was driving to the property late at night, I was second guessing myself initially. If you check-in late, you'll have to go down some very dark, isolated roads in order to reach the property. However once there, you'll feel embraced with warmth and overcome with the question of: "Where the heck am I?" Don't mind the armored knight displayed in the corner of the lobby, he's just there to remind you that this ain't no regular inn. The keys are old school, and the wood floors squeak, but really I'm not sure that you'd want to have in any other Downtown Abbey way. There are only 28 rooms on the property (and for many that's probably a good thing) but as mentioned in many other reviews, you can hear just about every little thing that passes in the hallway. Good news is that the beds are super comfortable, so hopefully you'll be able to slip into a deep slumber and pay no mind. My room was equally as adorable as the rest of the property, with a grand tub and grape/wine bath products. There is are a Keurig and complimentary water and chocolate left behind for you to survive through the night if the cafe downstairs is closed by the time you check in. In the morning, the continental breakfast downstairs is actually pretty fancy. Warm quiche on fine dining ware, overlooking a pool and fountain with classical music playing in the background? Don't mind if I do! They also give all guests a complimentary pass for a tour of the winery. Tours starts every 30 mins starting at 10:30am that lasts for about an hour that you should definitely take advantage of if you have the time. Need more staff for in-house breakfast area (breakfast is included) Never got coffee, and many tables still had dirty dishes on them. Also when getting back to our room after visiting down town, housekeeping did not straighten up the room, make the bed, replace towels, etc. For the amount of people visiting this establishment, there truly needs to be more staff. read more

Located on the expansive property of the Williamsburg Winery, the Wedmore Place is a cross between a colonial home and a French mansion, complete with suits of armor and 17th century paintings. A friendly concierge greets you as you enter the hotel and escorts you to an antiquated looking room that manages to feel bucolic and regal at the same time, a room which is sure to bring you lots of comfort and relaxation. With a deep bath, large shower, king sized bed, fireplace and complimentary wine bottle and chocolates, the Lombardi room where I stayed was a portrait of hotel service at its finest. The room also had a beautiful view of the winery's grounds, facilitating an awesome sunrise in the morning. The Wedmore Place is home to the Cafe Provencal, a high(er) end French restaurant located in the basement. A continental breakfast is available in the Cafe in the morning. Additionally, there is an outdoor pool to take advantage of during the summer months. Even if you skip the pool and the Cafe, The Wedmore Place is a fascinating building to wander around inside and admire the architecture and pieces of art lining the walls, from paintings to centuries old maps of Europe. This bed and breakfast place is part of the Select Registry.... never heard of that but sounds pretty cool. Select Registry includes more than 300 unique bed and breakfasts, inns, and boutique hotels. Founded in 1972 by travel writer Norman Simpson, who traveled throughout North America identifying unique places that offered what he called, "good honest lodging, good honest food, and good honest feeling." Through his book, Country Inns and Back Roads, Simpson introduced the traveling public to this group of properties scattered throughout the U.S. and Canada. Pretty sweet. Dave purchased the Food, Wine & Escape package for our stay which is only available on weekdays (Nov-Dec). This included a night in their Wedmore place. Check in was at 3pm but we arrived earlier and they were kind enough to escort us up to our room. FYI there's a keurig if u have a specific kind of coffee you prefer (like Dave does) bring your own k-cups. They provided dark roast blend and he prefers the breakfast blend. All the rooms had different themes. Our room was the "Bavaria" room- this was considered a traditional room. We felt that it was cozy and romantic. The bed was super super comfortable!! The bathroom had a separate bath and shower (Great lighting as well). The best part of the room is the fire place....last call for having the fire started is 9pm-this is arranged upon request by hotel staff- probably not available for summer months. The Wedmore Place also added a nice touch to capture your special experience by providing a guest book in which others share their experience and after reading them you can add your own memory to the book. We stayed here for our anniversary, and it was a fantastic night. Started out with a complimentary bottle of wine, and two free flights at the nearby (walking distance) Williamsburg Winery. The hotel design and decorations are beautiful. The rooms are quaint, and decorated in colonial style with wonderful furniture. The courtyard looked beautiful, and while the salt pool looked inviting, we did not have time to try it out. The breakfast was amazing (included with the stay), and the service desk provided an outstanding 2 mile walk around the winery grounds which was amazing. This is definitely a place we would return to in a heartbeat, just a beautiful location and wonderful staff! Highly recommend! read more

It was so private and tucked away, yet in the center of everything we wanted to do - Busch Gardens and downtown Williamsburg were both eleven minutes away. All in all, location was perfect, and service was incredible. Breakfast at Cafe Provençal was equally as exceptional. The wine tasting included with our stay was the cherry on top. Highly recommend Wedmore for a quiet getaway in Williamsburg. PS if you are able to, get the couples (or singles) massage, do it. I had a wedding at the Williamsburg Winery and we stayed at the Wedmore Place. My stay was Dec 14-16 and I called in July for the reservation. When I called in July I asked for a room with a fire place. The night before my stay I realized my room had no fireplace! I was so annoyed, and so I called him and they fixed it quickly. There were no more rooms with fireplaces so they upgraded me to a bigger room. I was pleased with the service. The stay was nice, but for the price I expected better but I enjoyed myself. Every room comes with breakfast downstairs. Breakfast is small, bagels, bread, quiche, and yogurt--- the shop is really nice and the staff was lovely. Coffee was good and tea comes in little team pots! Anytime before 9pm you can request a fire, if the temp is below 50 degrees. Someone comes and lights a fire. With the hotel you also get a free tasting to the winery which was very nice. read more

The rooms are beautiful and overall we enjoyed a pleasant stay. The fitness room was well outfitted although the water cooler was completely empty. Breakfast in the cafe was a marvelous treat - for some reason, I had been led to believe it was a "continental pastry" buffet, but it was more than that: it was a lovely spread of pastries, quiche, fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, cereal and breads. I ate too many croissants thank I'll ever admit to - and the gruyere spinach quiche was TDF. Very friendly staff served coffee and beverages. My only cavil with Wedmore was the check-in/check-out process. It felt a bit bumpy - the computer system didn't seem to be used in a way that would help the front desk be more efficient or well managed. Our room turned out to have a "maintenance problem," so the manager/concierge took us around to a couple of other options from which to choose. This was a very nice gesture but they were offering rooms at a lower grade (smaller size), so this was disappointing. Still, the staff was quick to make adjustments to our bill and overall were pleasant to deal with. As another reviewer pointed out, this isn't a typical hotel--it's discreet, tucked into an old Williamsburg neighborhood that has a country feel, and has an Old World elegance; it's probably best suited for the more placid (non-partying) adults among us who'd appreciate its tranquility, good food, winery and discreet charm. read more

My husband and I enjoyed our one night stay in the Wedmore Place. We got the Romantic Winter Escape package. Came with a one night stay, wine-tasting, and $100 dinner voucher for Café Provençal. Ok, getting to the hotel was like I was walking into my own horror movie. Lol It is creepy in the winter. It's probably much more beautiful in the summertime. We are also confused by the roads and signs, but maybe it was just us. It took us a min., but we got it. Lol First impression walking into the hotel is that it was very quiet, traditional, and beautiful. The floors squeaked and you could hear everything coming and going. It was fine tho. We wanted a quiet and romantic getaway for our anniversary anyway. Our room was clean and cute. Smelled like a fire pit, bc of the fireplace in a small area. Didn't mind it tho. The only thing I really did not like about our room was that the doors were in the way. The cabinet the TV was in was in the walkway and just a nuisance having to open and close to walk past it and the way the chairs were set up, the bathroom door blocks one when it's open. That's just something that annoyed me. Nothing major. I loved the bathroom. The bathtub was HUGE! I love a nice, clean, big bathtub. And it exceeded my expectations. The bed was very comfortable and I slept like a baby. They also have a notebook in each room for guests to write their experiences down in. Some entries date back to 2008. I thought that was very dope. Overall, the room was nice, even though we didn't have a working fireplace. Now we have Café Provençal. I was not impressed. I think only bc it's not the food that I'm used to and I'm also a picky eater. I had a lobster salad and the venison. The food was cooked well, but the sauces the dishes come with didn't make sense to me. I don't have an advanced palate, so I digress. The thing that really disappointed me about the restaurant was breakfast. There wasn't one. They had a buffet of croissants, limited fruit, and orange juice. I was at least expecting quiche or something for a continental breakfast. Idk. I was satisfied with my stay and I would do it again and recommend others to give them a try. read more

Future customers beware, review of tavern on property and hotel's response: Dined at the Gabriel Archer Tavern yesterday evening and I wish I had a good report. While there, we enjoyed the atmosphere and the food tasted delicious. When we got back to the hotel, so began the night of hell. We woke up at midnight with severe food poisoning. I threw up four times between midnight and 5am. My fiancé projectile vomited on multiple occasions, and had issues out the other end at well. I am writing this almost a day later and we are still incredibly sick and catching second waves of whatever this is. I can say with certainty that this food poisoning came from this establishment as we had no other food. Additionally, when we checked out this morning at the associated hotel on the estate and made mention of our night and illness, there was no offer to compensate us for our very poor experience. I can't believe we paid so much money to almost die in Williamsburg. I'm hoping this goes away soon, but also writing this report so anyone else who dined on 2/25/2023 and is feeling unwell can know that they aren't alone read more

Stayed here after the tour and tasting at the winery to celebrate our anniversary. We choose the Catalonia room, when you are looking online you can select a smaller or bigger room as well as ones that have more immunities such as a couch. Upon checking in the staff was very helpful and showed us to our room. The building is quite charming, you can see that is it an older building but they have maintained it very well and with how it is decorated you almost feel like you are back in the older days, it's very cool. The room was very clean and nice. One element I liked a lot was that every room has a little book in it where the guest can write a short passage about their visit. As I looked through there entries from almost 10 years ago and from all walks of life and parts of the world. It was very touching. Based on the package you select will depend what all you get with your stay such as dinner vouchers or breakfast in bed. There was a complementary breakfast which was very good. The quiche, croissants & fruit were all very fresh. The staff there as well was very attentive and quick. Had a great stay and will be back! read more

The Cons... I stayed at Wedmore place 10/13/12-10/15/12 for my wedding weekend. I must say that the Hospitality Manager "Christine" ruined my entire stay. From the moment my family arrived she made us very uncomfortable as she was unable to contain her ignorance and racism as she rambled off one inappropriate statement after another. It started with demanding that we pay for our entire stay up front rather than simply "pre-authorizing" our card for the full amount. We are very well travelled and only stay in luxury hotels. I know that paying in full up front is not standard practice. Christine continued to comment, "I know that holding $1,000 is a lot of money" in a condescending way which was very insulting to our family, considering that $1,000 is pocket change to us. You should have seen the look on my husband's face. Clearly we would not have selected the highest and most expensive room product they offered if we could not afford it. The behavior continued throughout our stay. Christine mentioned that we had to park in the parking lot to unload our wedding flowers and luggage rather than parking in the spots in the front of the building. Christine also stated to another co-worker that she was shocked to find out that we were an African American family with a "child" when we arrived since I sounded so "white" on the phone pre-arrival. Who says that? The problems were endless. Christine refused to bring my husband and his best man an iron to their room after they made the request on 4 occasions. My room service consisted of a block of cheap cheese, a box of crackers and a fully wrapped, unsliced slab of salami with no knife. Additionally, after a certain time of night the front door to the property was locked and 2 grown men had to knock and wait at the door like they were sneaking in their parent's house after curfew. When I came back from my wedding hair/makeup appointment Christine mentioned that she did me a favor by cleaning up the best she could "around" my belongings. I'm glad she cleaned "around" my belongings so she didn't get any dirty fingerprints on my collection on Louboutins. Hopefully, she also noticed my flawless 10 carat diamond ring on my wedding day as she was treating us so inferior like we were beneath her and unworthy of staying at Wedmore. Lastly, we found several gross bugs in the bathroom under the sink and crawling around the bathtub in the Venetian Suite. Yuck! I would not recommend staying at this property if you are looking for luxury accomodations. read more

Called from CA. to buy a gift certificate for a family member who lives in the area. I recall thinking at the time that Heather..the woman on the phone..sounded like she'd rather be doing something else but I let it go. She said this would be sent out the very next day.. My niece still doesn't have it..apparently a signature was required...which I knew nothing about and would not have chosen. The kids are busy with jobs and kids..and now they have to make a trip to the post office or have it redelivered and wait for the mail to come. Heather just said.."sorry about that"...as I imagined her to be filing her nails and chewing her gum. Anyway...the bloom is somewhat off her graduation day..and present. read more

Apparently a large wedding party was booked above and around us. All adults were drunk and the herd of unmanaged children were likely drunk. Paid a pretty steep price for a room where I was kept awake all night. Informed the staff of my disappointment and unpleasant stay I checked out and they told me they'd lower my bill, which was some consolation. Ultimately only reduced it by 20 dollars, though. I should have stayed at a chain hotel. Breakfast was mediocre, room was small, had no interest in the attached winery. Not worth the price, even if I had been able to have a good nights sleep. read more

I was so excited to stay at Wedmore when it opened in 2007 at the W'burg Winery - since then I've stayed there...4 times (I think). What I love: 1) The rooms! The rooms are all beautifully decorated and each one is different, representing a different European country. Each room has a wood-burning fireplace and a plush king bed (I love the bed, but I could see if you have back problems the mattress may be too soft for you, so be prepared). 2) The breakfast. There is a lovely continental breakfast spread that includes fresh fruit, cereals, croissants, specialty breads, yogurt, and 2 quiches of the day (1 veggie, 1 meat). I've seen other reviews for this place and people are miffed that there isn't a hot breakfast - they specifically state on their website this is what they offer. They also carry Harney & Sons tea - a brand which I'm now addicted to and that I discovered during my first visit several years back. 3) The ambiance. This place is just so tranquil - I feel like I'm completely transported somewhere else when I stay there. It's really charming. 4) Cafe Provencal is just fantastic (see my review), and you can't beat just going back up to your room after a leisurely dinner. What I don't love: 1) The noise. So I'll admit, one of the charms is the rustic feel of the Inn which is evidenced by their wood floors throughout the entire building. However, as others have noted, this can be quite noisy. You can always hear people walking around, in the hallway and if you are on the bottom floor, above you. This particular visit we were blessed with some pretty quiet neighbors above, but next door we definitely heard a couple having some fun and at one point heard a cell phone ring. This isn't enough to deter me from staying there, but if you are sensitive to noise, I definitely recommend staying on the second floor, which will at least lessen the noise from above. 2) The Wi-Fi was really spotty on this visit. The first night it didn't work at all, the second night the router was re-set and it worked fine, and then after that it was on and off, which was a bit frustrating, especially since I didn't have a great cell phone signal and I was trying hard not to drain my battery. Overall, for me, the pros definitely outweigh the cons and I'm a frequent visitor to Wedmore Place. read more

Somehow reservations weren't made for our Asheville Video crew on a busy weekend and we needed help with an unplanned production meeting. A single phone call to the front desk fixed it all in less than a minute. No 'let me check' or 'I'll see what I can do', but 'Done!' followed by the details. Simply terrific. The hotel looks like a fort from the 1700's. Sort of cool in a way. And, the rooms (Superior Class) were nice enough and big enough to get office work done without feeling cramped or crowded. Parking was a snap, even for our box truck. What I didn't like was the hardwood floors. I am into thick carpet, not cold, hard, surfaces under my feet. Overall, Wedmore is a winner. read more

My overall response is poor maintenance/lack of attention to details. 1. Bathroom:        Poor painting            Paint on light switch plate            Runs in paint            Areas lacked second coat of paint        Poor drywall repair (area right of mirror)        Wall opposite shower - water marks 2. This place SAVED my honeymoon. We were stranded in Richmond after our flight landed with no car and no place to stay because our B&B wasn't answering their phone. We were planning on staying at the Wedmore place the last two days of our honeymoon, so we called to see if they could get us in for the rest of the week. They made room for us and even stayed up until almost midnight just to see us in. They were so helpful and kind during our stay! The food was incredible and the wines were great, too. We loved exploring the surrounding property and taking in the beauty of it. This place is amazing! Thank you for rescuing us, Wedmore Place. :) read more

This has to be one of Williamsburg's best kept secret. Beautiful country manor style hotel. Each room is elegantly themed. Looks like a medieval French chateau. Staff was tremendous. read more

This hotel used to be nice, really nice, like worthy of the price nice. After my recent (2nd) stay I was disappointed to find hot water that wasn't hot (or even warm), AC that couldn't keep up on a simple 90 deg F day, and a roof that dripped on the ceiling as I tried to nap in a hot room after a cold shower. The staff seemed at best unable and perhaps even uninterested in addressing the issues when contacted. I hope the management team finds a way to course correct but until then I could not recommend anyone to stay here. To those considering it, make sure the reviews you look at are timely and not from a time gone by when it was worthy of the accolades I read on here. read more
