It is so refreshing. If you're not looking hard enough you would easily miss it. Walk in and it's like the prohibition era, from the grungy shelves to the dark, moody decor and booths to the sad music. It is easily one of the best themed cocktail bars in Adelaide. Drinks are fantastic. Some bars have expensive drinks for not much and they don't taste great. Not at Baddog, they are top notch and the barman does it right in front of you on the bar so you don't miss a thing. Brilliant. Best find of the year for me so far.

The waist coats, crystal glasses and twisted stainless steel and silver spoons all work to make this a top spot for a cocktail or cheeky beer. A maestro of the common and rare cocktails and a range of spirits you wont find in many bars Zack makes this bar. Sitting at the bar is mandatory for the first drink in my opinion then sneak off to the lux booths for quiet and intimate drinks. Its dark, has very cool décor and edgy clean bathrooms. Bad Dog Bar doesn't have tvs, doesn't have pokies and doesn't have tap beer and for goodness sakes never order an apple-tini :) and that's the way we like it. Top Tip: order the pickleback - rye bourbon shot followed by some freshly made pickle juice. The SMoking Joint cocktail is also a fav!

This is my special night out or even not so special night out starting point. The cocktails here are truly unique and now having collectively tried quite a few with partner and friends I can't find fault. (My personal favourite is the Violet Champagne Cocktail.) The setting is luxuriously decadent and seductive, the cocktails seduce even more and the alcoholic ambience is stupendous. A Sydney friend makes this her only must do whenever in Adelaide. Not that us Radelaideans need to compare ourselves in anyway - do we? I can't rave much more except to hint that whether it's Valentine's day, Birthday, Anniversary, Chinese New Year, Haven't Seen Old Friend's For Ages or you've just had a shitty week at work make a beeline for The Collins. Your efforts will be rewarded and the world will look beautiful again.

The owner Roger used to pour other people's left over beer into your glass when you weren't looking and there was often a car doing a burn-out out the front, a punch up or a band playing to keep you entertained. I even spent my 21st birthday in the front bar of the Uraidla with mates and ended up wresting each other on the oval with takeaway beers. Good times. Fast forward a lifetime and The Urey is back and kicking with a cash injection from everyone's favourite pub philanthropists: the Peter's. I haven't actually met Ed and Julie yet, but after they did up our old local - The Crafers; and now our new local - The Uraidla, I want to give them a big hug. The old mini orb bar is still in place with a new copper top, but most of the rest of the pub has been given a 2016 refurbishment. It is very mix and match with vinyl stools with chrome bases at the bar, galv plumbing pipe based laminate tables and then some nice solid timber tables and odd chairs and chesterfields. The centrepiece of the place must be the upside down table with floor lamps suspended from the main dining room ceiling as a makeshift thrift shop chandelier. Very creative. The wines include some local favourites from small wineries and the beer selection has some local crafties such as bierhaus, mismatch, prancing pony and prirate life alongside classics like coopers, west end and southwark. I'm going to see if I can get them to put some brew boys, big shed or little bang on tap. I'll keep you posted. As far as the food goes, I have tried a schnitzel with mushroom sauce and found it to be quite good, though very slightly overdone and a bit on the small side. My second meal was crumbed fish and chips and they were cooked very well and came with tartare sauce and lemon so I was chuffed. The main draw for this place though is the great historic hills pub history atmosphere. It oozes from every beam and stone in this building that dates back to the 1860's. The three fireplaces, the art deco entry and the quirky decorative elements such as the pressed tin ceiling to the ¾ keg urinals all make this place fun and cozy. Well done to everyone involved from the Peters to Advance Building Concepts, The locals who helped out and the new staff. I'm looking forward to the brewery and bakery that I've heard so much about and there have been other ideas floated such as communal table nights, quiz nights, whisky bars and more. Bring it on. It's great to see another hills town given a shot in the arm. Cheers!

I…read morewas told by the security guard to show my ID to another bouncer standing outside of the line. When I walked over to him he told me to go away. I asked him why and he asked how many drinks I had and I told him (3). He accused me of lying and said that I was sent over to him because I was too drunk. I was pretty clear with him that I was not lying and I was clearly not drunk, talking fine, standing fine, and so on. He told me to go speak to the other guy again. When I did, he asked me how many drinks I had, and I answered, he laughed and said "if you were honest I would have let you in" which was obviously a lie because he was not planning on letting me in anyway. He told me to go back to the other guy and said "he's the boss go talk to him". When I spoke to him, I asked him why he thought I was drunk and he kept giving childish responses like "nothing, I'm kicking you out for no reason" and "the police are walking past if you want to ask them". I told him that he was obviously saying it to get rid of me because the police were not going to make them let me in. At this point, my friend who had been let in, was waiting for me at the side of the entrance, where he was told he was allowed to stand but after he mentioned that he was waiting for me, the bouncer that checked my ID and his buddy grabbed him under the arms and threw him into me. Then the guy I was sent to and the guy that checked my ID (and assaulted my friend) kept saying "it's not my decision, go speak to the other guy" amongst other things like telling me I'm "bullshitting" and to "piss off". By this point it was obvious the guy I was sent to and two guys that assaulted my friend were making fun of me by sending me back and fourth because they kept looking at each other and laughing while being rude to me. Then when I got annoyed at them for laughing, they started yelling at us and the security manager came out and pulled me and my friend aside to talk to me about what happened. He explained that they have a job to do and it is within their rights to decline someone based on a "visual assessment" of how drunk someone is. I acknowledged that, but I made a point of how rude they were in doing so, and how they did not even tell me what was going on until I asked. He said that he still cannot let me in because he has to stand by their decisions, which is pretty poor given the fact that I had demonstrated that I was not intoxicated like they were saying. He was agreeing with whatever I said to him and it was clear to me that he was just trying to get rid of me and my friend, he said that he will review the footage and if what I am saying is true, it will be addressed. Then I asked if I could be let know what the outcome was, his response was "these guys are pretty replaceable, if you don't see them standing here, then you know it was dealt with". Was annoying because if he handled the situation properly, he would have gotten my contact details. He obviously had no plans of addressing the situation and advised us to go somewhere else to continue the night (it was 15 minutes before lockout at this point), but my question is, if he thought that I was sober enough to go somewhere else, why not let us in here? Needless to say, I was really annoyed at what had happened, and even more annoyed that after having agreed with me that what happened was wrong. The manager still didn't let me in or do anything to resolve the situation beyond speaking to me (i.e getting my contact details, asking them to apologies, or letting me in). Even after having written an email to rocket rooftop bar about it, I was not surprised when I was not told how this was dealt with and the same people were standing at the door when I returned, giving me the same attitude.

You have the option of smoking shisha indoors or outside, which makes your option largely dependent on the weather. They have a large selection of flavours to choose from, all with a very sweet aftertaste. My personal favourite would be grape, but others like green apple and strawberry aren't too shabby either. The food is equally as pleasing, with a simple yet delicious menu of Arabic specialties. The chicken yiros has to be my all-time favourite, yet I'm also a big fan of their hot dogs. No matter your choice, it's always satisfying. Their coffee isn't great, and I think if they served Arabic coffee instead it would complete the experience. And if that's not enough, the shop owners are implementing a PS3 gaming system in the lounge area - if they get the games right, I don't think I'll ever need to leave. Smoking shisha whilst playing video games can't be anything short of brilliant.

There are a few shisha venues along the Hindley Street strip but Horus is the oldest and my…read morefavourite. It has managed to stick around when others have failed, largely because of the quality of the shisha, the sense of community the place attracts, and because it is open when others are not. The staff are expert at the etiquette and use of shisha, and certainly don't mind assisting the newcomer. Although in Hindley Street, you're more likely to see friends playing cards than you are a pack of drunks, and Horus is not a licensed premise. If people are bothersome, the staff are quick to act and I always feel safe. The shishas are professionally assembled and I have never been short-changed in tobacco. Staff are continuously outside with containers of coal, ensuring you get the most out of your shisha. Unlike some other places in town, there is no deposit required for shisha use and there are multiple flavours and two sizes. I've been told that they will be getting new stock in soon, including my personal favourite "cappuccino". The owner, Yasser, let me test a new combination "watermelon and mint" which was ok, but I will be sticking to my staple of "grape and mint", at least until the "cappuccino" arrives. Since smoking laws have relegated shisha users to the patch of sidewalk outside, the decor of the inside has slipped a little, though the toilets have certainly improved. Aforementioned toilets are located towards the back of the business behind a door marked "staff only" to discourage use by unscrupulous non-customers, but I always use them and patron-use is fine. Occasionally on the weekends you will have to wait inside for a table to be free outside to smoke a shisha. In the summer time, the experience of smoking a shisha outside can't be beat, but winter along Hindley Street can be bitter and I usually take gloves. As far as the food is concerned, it is a simple kebab shop, but all ingredients are made fresh daily, which is also why I think their kebabs are the best in town. The quality of the falafel and the tabouli is particularly good. Horus also provides pots of mint tea, made just as thoughtfully as they do everything else.

Our table for four was booked for 12.30pm, and were were home by1.45pm so maybe that says something in itself. Upon our arrival the waiter could not find our allocated table number 71, and were were standing in front of many empty tables waiting for that to be sorted. He then turned up with our table number and swapped it with for a table with number 48. So we're sitting at the table with no menus and a different lady came up to take our order. She ran off to bring some menus when another lady brought us some. When the waitress came back and saw us with a menu each, she placed her four menus at the end of the table saying joyfully "you can have two each now". We had hardly had our menus when we were asked by another waitress what we would like to order and requested another couple of minutes. Another waitress (a different one again) took our order, and our predrinks were soon served followed by our shared entree of garlic pizza. Three of our mains arrived, and we had to wait for our son to receive his main meal of pizza and the time was ticking. Some of our empty plates were taken by another male waiter, and I asked whether we were supposed to get a bowl of sliced bread as we'd noticed other tables have it. The waiter did ask whether we wanted bread, and it really was too late as he had cleared my dishes. So another staff member (the guy on the till) came to take my son's pizza tray away, and took our table number away. We were never asked if we wanted more drinks, nor later offered the dessert menu or asked whether we wanted coffee. After waiting waiting waiting we decided to leave so I went to pay the bill. I was not told what we had to verify the total, and as it seemed like the right amount. I spoke of my displeasure in the lack of service, and he asked whether we wanted coffees but it was far too late as the boys were ready to go. I stated that we'd be unlikely to return and he said we must come back to try. There is no incentive to return.
