Upon entering the store, I'm always greeted with a pleasant smile, followed by great service, more like a Mom and Pop shop. Lucas, is full of knowledge, and information providing for a broad healthful gamut, not just bodybuilders as many folks mispercieve. He's my favorite out of the group, but on several occasions in his absence his fellow employees proved just as faithful. The shop is full of wonderful products that benefit lean body mass, especially those tough, stubborn, hard to shrink mid sections. i was visiting my sister over the last week and while we were out in hillcrest, saw this hilarious sign spinner that alerted us to the local GNC which reminded me I wanted to get a few things.when i came in i was immediately happy because there was AC and i was basically sweating from how hot i was .I came in looking for some weight loss supplements as I recently had a baby and needed some help losing the extra weight. Since neither my sister or i knew what we were looking for we decided to ask for help and thank goodness we did because i was about to buy the wrong stuff. I am not sure of the guys name that helped me but he was tall and had longer ish hair. He showed me some multi vitamins and other all natural supplements. he was extremely helpful and nice without being pushy. I wish i lived down here cuz i would definitely return. read more

This is my favorite location to come to stock up on all my supplements, I actually always look forward to my visits when I come here! Out of all the times I've been here I've dealt with 3-4 different associates and all of them have been attentive, polite and extremely helpful. I'm always very curious as to what new product I can try out to reach my fitness goals and the employees here always take them time to answer my questions and make sure to steer me in the right direction! The employees were SO helpful! They were super friendly and helped me find one that was absolutely perfect for what I need - one that is much better than what I used to take. I go to a lot of GNC's in San Diego and it's a hit or miss with the customer service at all the locations besides the one in Hillcrest. Lucas helped me out today and answered all the questions, he was very knowledgeable and friendly and helped me get the most bang for my buck when it came to choosing what protein powders I needed to fit my needs. Worst experience ever.I usually go here to get my deal of the day with no problem what's so ever. I went inside to get the deal of the day. The associate who helped me (I think he's name is Stan) didn't believe my deal of the day coupon (it was a screen shot of the coupon) because he said there was fraudulent coupons circulating. But when he entered the coupon code it worked. He still asked me to pull it up online. So I did. He then honored the coupon code and then asked if there was shipping and handling involved for the online orders. I said yes. So then he charges me shipping and handling for a product that was in the store. But when charges me the shipping and handling he said it wouldn't be labeled as shipping in handling instead it would be labeled as "DP Food." His explanation as to why he charged shipping and handling was because the coupon price that the product was selling for was under their profit margin, therefore he was loosing out on the sale, so he has to charge shipping. He said that by selling the product to me for 19.99 they would be loosing money (BTW shipping was only 1.99) Complete Bull crap. Long story short I left the store, probably won't ever come back. I called corporate office and made a compliant. Corporate office agreed that their business practice was "inconsistent" and shipping should not be charged on a product that is in the store. They're sending me a bunch of coupons and I was able to order my item with no shipping and handling. I personal felt that the associate who helped me was doing something shady. What if I bought my item with shipping and handling charged, and I had to return it but the receipt says "DP Food" instead of shipping and handling? This is the local GNC in Hillcrest, I wonder how many other people this guy or the store has ripped off? read more

I've been going to this GNC for years now, and almost always have a great experience. The associates are usually helpful, honest, and give recommendations consistent with what I've learned from trainers and from my own research. However, I've also had two very poor experiences there, both because of the sales associate, Stan. In addition to being condescending and rude (for example, I asked a question to clarify something I'd asked him earlier, and his response was, "I already told you that."), he pushed very hard, intimidatingly, to get my to buy the most expensive version of what I was looking for. I would assume that he's working on commission, but rarely, even in stores where associates are known to work on commission, are they so pushy. After the second time dealing with him, I can say that even though this is the most conveniently located GNC for me, I will not be returning. read more

This is the worst experience I've ever had at an establishment. I went to purchase some protein powder that I have been using for years that I love, but the girl there recommended something else. She also recommended a pre-workout that I was already using, so I took her recommendation on protein. I told her the most important thing for me was taste. It sucked for me, the texture and flavor. So I took my receipt to get an exchange and get the original item. I told my friend out loud that the girl was not there and the gentleman behind the counter heard me. He accused me of trying to intimidate the girl (she was not there) and that I wouldn't dare try it on him. He acted like he wanted to fight. I couldn't believe it. I told him that I liked my original product and wanted an exchange. He told me that the product I wanted sucked and the product I was returning was better and that it was my fault for buying it. I told him that I took the girl's recommendation and it was not good. I asked why he had low stock in the product I wanted and he said that it didn't sell because everyone hated how it tasted. I mentioned that the vendor wouldn't appreciate him bashing their product, especially when the customer is telling you they love it. He told me he was the store manager and he didn't give a F*** what the vendors wanted, he was to recommend what was best for customers, so what did I come to the store for? He said that if I wanted to continue arguing that I could "Go kick some rocks". I suspect that he took it personally because maybe he took that product and was training the girl to push it as well and didn't like that I said it sucked for me. Maybe they are family or dating? I could not believe that he raised his voice to me, insulted my selection of product, insulted my taking the girl's recommendation, talked so badly about a product they carried and cursed (not at me) and dismissed me. I shut up, exchanged my product, gave my ID, contact info for exchange and left. I did some research for the owner since I have been a brick and mortar, retail owner myself and would want to know if an employee did something like this, but I found one thank you here and a similar response to other negative reviews. It makes me suspect that this behavior is acceptable to the owner. I will never return and will let everyone I know at the gym, work, school, etc to never spend money here. read more

Would not recommend this store! The sales person who claimed to be the owner talked me into purchasing American Metabolix HAVOK pre-workout claiming that it was the best performing pre-workout on the market. Little did I know it was being discontinued which is probably why it was being sold at a discounted price. Additionally, I was sold GNC RARE protein that was expiring a few days away. It's obvious that the owner of this GNC isn't concerned with providing its customers quality products. read more

They mail out coupons for 30% off any item but won't let you use it. Even though the fine print doesn't say anything about not being able to use on promotional items or sale items they tried to charge me $12 over the "non-member" price because they said that it was on promotion. This made the 30% off of a box of combat bars $29 instead of the non-coupon price of $31. To me, that's not 30% it's around 5% off, but that's just math. To be clear the coupon does say, one coupon only not to be combined with any other offer, nothing about sale or promotion items tho. Don't say you accept coupons if you're just going to jack the price up so they don't mean anything! read more

I had a great experience here, especially after my GNC PB experience. The guy here was knowledgeable, and honest. He talked me out of buying amino acids,because the protein powder I was buying already has enough in it. Most salespeople would keep on tacking stuff on regardless of you really need it or not. I've been buying my Mega Men vitamins/ protein powder / muscle phyx ( which I love ) and my daughters vitamins from GNC for years. It seems like every time I come to this particular location in Hillcrest I'm met with bad customer service and employees who don't want to or don't care to make a sale . I've been a retail manager for 20 years and if I had employees that let customers walk ($60+ sales) because of a technicality with a coupon that was sent to me via text message for being a member and in- store pricing that wasn't very clear, I wouldn't have any employees anymore. I gave 2 stars because I do love their products. If customer service means anything to you go somewhere else , or visit the mission valley GNC, they'll work with you to get that sale ! read more
