This was the first time I used Go Bus, for my trip to Boston. To my surprise they were on point. The bus location was a little hard to find at first but granted it was 4am in the morning. However, the block they load their buses on was clearly labeled with banners based on destination and highly organized. The driver was a driver; he asked for you ticket, told you where to leave your luggage so it can be loaded and drove a smooth ride to Boston. Given that we left in the early morning the ride was quick ride. The seats weren't comfy at all but I've yet to see a discounted bus that travels across states that has been comfy. Great bus for the price. Arrived to DC 30 min early. Water was offered pre-boarding. Info on boarding could use help as the map is very generic on "the corner" which could be any of 4 corners. Seats weren't the most comfy but 100% recommended overall, especially for the price. Update to company reply: The printout I got said 31st and 8th for DC, but I had to call to find out which of the four potential corners that meant. Unless I just didn't read closet enough. read more

About 50 of us are waiting for a bus right now that is literally 2.5 hours late. We are all forced to wait outside. It rained. They keep saying it's close (they said that an hour ago) but its not. Also extremely unsafe bus drivers. I have seen them eat while driving multiple times. We took a bus from NY to DC and back. The buses are nice and clean. We arrived about an hour late to DC probably because of the traffic on NY, but you can't really blame a driver for this. Departure from NY and DC was on time. Now the cons. The AC problem. On our way to DC it was extremely cold. However, on our way back the driver rejected to turn on the AC when it was more than 90 degrees outside. I asked him a few times and explained that I can't breathe when it's that hot, but he didn't care. For the reference, the AC wasn't broken, it's just the driver that didn't care about passengers. Also, there is no sink and water in the bathroom to wash hands. I don't know if it's normal on a bus, but just something to keep in mind. read more

I use Go Bus... a lot. But not because I like it. Rather, I use them because I have no other choice. There is no other service that goes to Riverside station. 9 out of 10 times, the electrical outlets on the bus did not work. Literally. I have been on 10 buses, where 9 had outlets with no electricity. Can you even call them electrical outlets if they are not electrical? In my almost 1000 reviews on Yelp, I have never experienced a company make a mistake so consistently, so persistently, and so thoroughly. They really do not give a fuck. Weapons companies probably care more about the people their bombs land on than Go Bus cares about their customers. So don't expect to make the 4 hours on the Go Bus productive laptop work time. Every time I get on, I have a naive hope that this will be the bus ride on which I can get some work done. And 9 out of 10 times, I'm sorely disappointed. If you are looking for a job, just start a bus company that goes the same route as Go Bus, but that actually delivers on the service. You could even charge 50% more. I LOVE GO BUS! I travel with this company to see relatives in Rhode Island and so far my family and I have had great experience. Our bus drivers have been very friendly and always receive us with a smile and help out distribute the luggages. The check-in process is simple, all you have to do is provide your last name and will check you in on their device. The take off is ALWAYS on time, so its good if you're ready to go but bad if you're running late, we are usually always there 45 min before (lol) in the winter if the bus is there early the bus driver usually lets you go inside the bus, which is very nice of them. The Buses are equipped with Wi-Fi, phone charging ports and FREE water bottles. AMAZING! read more

I had the most horrible experience with Go Bus and will NEVER ride the bus again. I had a 8am bus (the first one) from NYC to Boston. The pick up location was abruptly changed the morning of, while the confirmation email, bus dispatcher that I called three times, and website all had the old pickup location. There was apparently an email sent out at 6am notifying of the change in location, being that early in the morning I didn't see it. I ended up waiting about an hour and a half total in the cold, to finally get on the 9am bus since I ended up missing the 8am. I called and filed a complaint with customer service and also left feed back on their website. I still have yet to hear back. Complete waste of my time, waste of my money and will never ride this bus again. read more

If you ride with GoBuses, you are rolling the dice. I've had rides then went completely fine. Others that were horrible. Here's my latest experience of a ride from NYC to Boston: We were supposed to depart at 5 pm. We ended up leaving 30 minutes late. The bus driver decided to take the long route through New Jersey and cross over on the George Washington Bridge which makes no sense. That route takes considerably longer. Then our bus breaks down and we have to be towed and get on another bus. With that bus we cross the bridge and are in the Bronx when the bus driver says the defroster isn't working. We then have to switch onto a third bus. And the bus driver can't figure out how to off the lights so we need to wait another 20 minutes for someone to show her. Now its almost 9 PM and we are still in NYC. Around 12:10 AM, once we are 10 minutes away from Boston, the bus driver decides to pull over because she is "tired" and needs to make a phone call. I don't arrive home until 1 AM. I was originally supposed to be home by 9 PM... Incompetent and unqualified bus drivers are a serious issue with this company read more

God awful. Was on the route from NYC to Newton, MA. Bus driver inexplicably drove across the GW bridge and then in the wrong direction through New Jersey. He then decided the best course of action--rather than to bypass the city-- was to drive back up to and across the GW bridge. Two hours in, we were BACK in Manhattan, basically where we started. No explanation, no apology, and when we made our unscheduled stop in Hartford to change drivers, the original driver claimed our delay was due to "traffic" rather than his own ineptitude. In the end, a 4-hour journey ended up taking 7.5 hours. Contacted the company and never heard back. Avoid at all costs. read more

A personal emergency came up and I had to get from NYC to Providence ASAP. Even though I was only spending the night there and coming back the very next day I was able to book a round trip ticket for a steal and left that very afternoon. Everything I experienced was much better than I expected for the low price. Complimentary water, Wi-Fi (that's kinda spotty, good thing for 4GLTE) and 110v outlets (sometimes the driver may not notice there isn't power in the outlets so just remind them and they kindly put it on.) The drivers are unbelievably professional and courtesy. You can tell they enjoy their jobs. My driver even introduced himself and gave us updates along the way with a wake up call 10 minutes before we got into Providence. From the other reviews of people having difficulties finding the boarding location in Manhattan, I got a bit scared and decided to show up 45 minutes early. To my surprise the bus stop was easy to find. There's multiple "Go Buses Stop Here" signs and a huge Go Buses banner on a fence nearby. Check-in took all of 16 seconds. Trust me, I counted. You just approach your bus and give the Go Buses employee with the tablet your name and destination and that's it. Grab the water from the cooler and find a seat. I didn't even need to show my confirmation on my Go Buses app. Overall the ride was smooth, tickets cheap and affordable, the bus was clean, the employees were professional, boarding locations are convenient and complimentary WiFi and power outlets on-board. I'm already about to buy another round-trip ticket because I have to go back to Providence this weekend and I'm secretly looking forward to the bus ride so I can catch some undisturbed shut eye with my Netflix in the background. Wow this bus went straight to hell... First off it leaves at 7:59 as appose to 8:01 they leave a minute early which is annyoing for me ... Second off the bus driver and the poor ticket attended both called me liar about my allegation that they leave early ... 3rd time this has happend.. I paid 30 dollars as appose to other cheaper bus services for 15 dollars and all they give u extra is water ... Wow I really hate this bus please see my other reviews I barley give 1 stars but the china bus is way better and cheaper.. They are nice, give you bottled water, store your luggage and get you to where you need to go but don't ever ever ever expect to leave at the time you're scheduled to leave or getting any type of communication about the delays. It's always either the driver arrives late or the person that checks you in. If you don't care about punctuality then go with Gobuses. read more

If zero stars was an option... ...had a 7pm to Boston from NYC. Bus was nearly two hours late. We were told at 7:30pm that the bus was on the George Washington Bridge nearly at the West Side Highway and almost here. Then, later, we were told it was still in Jersey...and then 30 minutes after that were told it was in the Lincoln Tunnel....so unless it was moving backwards or made a U-turn on the bridge I don't entirely understand how that's possible. This is apparently a recurring theme with this company and it's safe to say next time I won't be using them. Awful service and a great way to ruin a Friday. read more

I've been using Academy Bus Co. (Owner of Gobuses) for over 20 years. I usually take a bus into Port Authority in Manhattan from their station in Mt. Holly NJ (exit 5 park and ride) and have been taking the 8:45am or 2pm back the next day. Recently , Academy did away with those two time slots so I've been using Greyhound. I can't stand Greyhound - buses are not on time, many drivers are rude and the buses are crap inside. I'm now taking the Academy bus up in the am and the Gobus back the next day. The Gobus doesn't go to Port Authority - I believe gate privileges there are extremely expensive. Rather, they leave from a private lot. Took my first ride today (9/6/2018) and I was pleased. The buses and drivers are all Academy which means the buses are modern, very comfortable and immaculately maintained. One concern was that they don't have a building there with a waiting area and restrooms. The buses take the place, for now. My 9am bus was there waiting when I arrived and they allowed me to board right away. AC was running and bathroom in the back. Bus was perfect and all the drivers are professional drivers. Good drivers and courteous. As an aside, there was one review that said the buses had power outlets but they were the three prong type. Don't know what planet this person is from but here in the US you can use a two prong charger in a three prong outlet. Bottom line - I love Academy and I love Gobus and will be using both. Gobus will get their 5th star when they build a permanent building. read more

Oh my god. Absolutely awful, I have rode mechanical bulls that have given me a smoother ride. After being violently thrashed around for 4 hours from NYC to Manassas, I had a horrible headache. I would be a little forgiving if the driver was driving like he's done this before however we arrived back late almost only because he drove under the speed limit the entire trip. I took a round trip from NYC to Boston and back. For departure from New York, it was a little difficult to figure out where along 31st street we were supposed to wait because there were no signs (called customer service and they assured the bus was on its way, and sometimes people steal the signs). The bus didn't arrive until 5 minutes prior to departure, and everyone followed the bus from one end of the street to the other with our luggage (again, we didn't know where it would park). But they were very prompt in loading and we left about only 10 minutes late. For departure from Cambridge, I had some trouble locating the bus stop again, and I wouldn't have found it unless I spotted the bus 10 minutes prior parked about a block away and talked to the driver. A small downside is that the bus does not stop at South Station, which is more convenient and more central Boston. But both the Cambridge and Newton stops are right by the Boston trains/metro, so it's not too bad. The best thing about Go Buses is their refund/cancellation policy--up to 24 hours before your departure time. I changed my bus schedule several times with absolutely no problems, and I was even able to use points to save money on tickets. The prices are also reasonable, and I love that they don't overbook like so many other services (i.e. Greyhound, Yo!Bus, etc.). It's also very convenient that you don't have to print out the ticket and you can just show the receipt from your mobile phone. The bus itself is decently clean (though some seats have trash left behind on the floor) and they offer water bottles when you board. Definitely sticking to Go Buses for future travels! read more

Customer service gal was really rude and hung up on me. I was an hour early for my bus and wanted to talk the one before, which was totally empty, but they wanted me to pay $20 extra. Really irrational. Wifi was advertised as one of the amenities and I was counting on getting some urgent work done while on the bus. I chose Go Buses because it advertised reliable WiFi. The WiFi on my bus was unusable - it was extremely slow - I wasn't able to connect.

This service is convenient. The first time I heard about it was from a student. He mentioned this bus has a station closer to the school, which is important since a uber trip from south station would cost another $40. Basically you buy your ticket online. If you work hard enough you can find some coupon code online. Some of them might now work, and others deducted less than what they said they would. Btw, the coupon they give for checking in on yelp at their manhattan location doesn't work at all, and their costumer assistant deny such coupon exists. You will receive an email with confirmation. Some station will tell you to change that to a boarding pass before you get on board, but I have never tried if it is possible to walk on the bus with the confirmation on a tablet on those locations. I know the manhattan one only needs your name to board you. Amendment: adjustable seat, restroom (so scared that it would be dirty, but never actually used once). One departing from manhattan has outlets on it, though those white panels look awkward. Refund policy: no refund within 24h and full refund otherwise. Late thing, they have a limited number of trip in one day, and I really hope that they can manage to do more. read more

The worst experience of trying to travel by bus in my entire life. Booked the ticket leaving at 10AM from NYC to Washington DC RT for 3PM arrival in order to make to dinner at 6PM in VA. The bus stop location indicated on the ticket was 451 W 30th St which I have patiently waited for half an hour of which, 15 spent on the wait and another 15 frantically running around trying to figure out the location. It is still unbeknown to me why the bus picks up people on 8th ave by 30th St, when the ticket lists 451 W 30th St as the pickup location. The "real" location I discovered, upon being waited on from the long drawnout automatic voice operator, only to be connected to the most unpleasant customer rep (was finally connected after 10AM) was after the departure. The stoic unapologetic customer rep literally gave me option of either a) refund or b) book with Go Bus for 4PM that gets me in DC at 9PM without even attempting to find alt ways to fix the situation. Arriving in DC at 4PM defeats the whole purpose of heading to DC. Need I also mention that they don't list the arrival time on their ticket? That's a ticketing 101. Had to resort to refunding the ticket which did not nearly cover the amt I ended up paying for another substitute ride because I had to find it ASAP to DC at 11th hour. The inconsistency, lack of accountability, and poor communication was beyond belief and personally, I don't think I would ever use their service. I ended up booking with Peter Pan and boy, did they really turn their quality around since few years back! They had two clean booths at Port Authority with reps readily accessible and enthusiastic to help you with any questions. The booking of the trip thru Wanderu on mobile was easy, convenient, and quick. I was able to book the trip for 11:30 which the ticket indicated the new Arrival time as 4PM. Peter Pan definitely turned my day around and I really appreciate it! It's worth the few extra dollars- I'd go with Peter Pan! read more

Gobus is my favorite bus company. I've taken it multiple times from New York and Boston. It stops in Newton and Cambridge for its Boston locations. There's no rest stops and it's a straight ~5 hour ride. The inside and bathroom is always clean and the service is great. The bus drivers are responsible and very timely with their pick up/drop off. They also give free water on the bus, which is a great perk. read more

Update: Decided to cash out my rewards points on one final trip. My bad "luck" had to end eventually I thought? Well, not when it's not luck I guess. 6:30 bus to DC left after 8pm. After we boarded the bus, the driver went to get dinner (glad he ate, but seems inhumane Academy does not build in time for this). We then got off the highway in central Jersey to stop at Academy's offices to drop an employee off/ for driver to take a smoke break, and we are on track now to arrive in DC over 6 hours after scheduled departure time. They should just change their 6:30 bus time to 7:30, as I have never seen that bus arrive on time in NYC for DC. Worst case, the bus arriving in NYC from DC gets in with time to spare, and a driver gets a 20 minute break between trips to eat... Strongly agree with review below about Greenbelt stop as well. Sometimes no one gets off, and they stop anyways. read more

A Mostly Positive experience. Bought online, called into customer service. Took NYC-Vienna/Fairfax, VA Booked online, easy enough. Tickets are changeable/refundable until 24 hours prior to departure. HOWEVER, if you make a change, you may be re-rated to a new price. And the phone guys won't automatically keep any coupon codes, so know to ask and do some math to compare. Phone service was probably worst part of experience, but it wasn't "bad". In NYC, the pickup point is 30th between 9th and 10th opposite the post office closer to 9th. You will know where it is -- there are big banners everywhere along the fence and signs for each destination. Pretty easy. Bus arrives about 15 mins prior to departure, so show up at least that amount. Boarding first come first served. No seating or cover from weather at the stop though and not much around so may not want to be too early. A guy checks your name, and has you put your bags under the bus and board. He didn't need any paperwork, tickets, or emails from me. My bus was an Academy bus. Free water bottle upon boarding. Bus had acceptable wifi, 2 power outlets / USB under each pair of seats and bathroom in the back. Bus driver came on and made a speech about being quiet and the route. Message about being polite passengers was fine, but his delivery was awkward as he shamed any noise, complained about working a round trip, and was just generally grumpy. Departed on time, trip took 4 hours and 5 minutes with a quick driver break after the delaware river toll plaza where he used the restroom and stood outside for about 5 minutes. No other stops along the way. Announcement was made 10 mins prior to arrival. Always appreciate an on time experience! Really bummed. They recently got bought by someone else (the bus now has a sticker that says "Operated by Academy Express" or something like that) and they have a new schedule. Once I checked out the new schedule, I realized that "new" means mainly "reduced" =( I'm confused. Whenever I took the bus, it was always at capacity. There seems to be no need for canceling trips. My friend wanted to come visit this weekend and usually he books 4-5 days in advance. Due to the reduced service, everything was booked solid for the weekend. It looks like we'll be switching back to the good ol' Chinatown bus... Bottom line: I like Go Buses, you always offered great service. Please get more trips on the schedule! read more

Never use this bus service if you value your time or sanity. I've probably taken GoBus more than 20 times over the last year. Up until about 4 months ago the service was great. It was cheap and had very convenient pickup and drop off locations. In the last 4 months the reliability of the service has completely and utterly fallen off. On more than one occasion my bus stopped in the middle of the highway for the driver to get directions. Once a driver forgot to stop in New Haven on his way to Boston and only realized his mistake when a passenger walked to the front of the bus and told him a half hour later. He then turned around and went back and added probably an hour and a half to our trip. My most recent trip had everyone standing in the pouring rain for half an hour and then sitting in the stationary bus for another half hour. The prices have also increased quite a bit from what used to be $30 round-trip between Boston and New York to more than $90. I'm absolutely done with this service and will be switching to a more reliable service like Peter Pan/Greyhound or Bolt Bus. read more

I had taken this bus service before and had a bad experience. The bus came 45 mins late, meaning that I, along with other passengers, were waiting with our heavy bags on the streets of New York with the excuse given to us being - there's traffic. During the wait, I tried contacting their customer service, only to be constantly directed to their voicemail, which I left multiple and never received a call back till date. Once in, the electrical sockets didn't work in half the bus and the aisles were littered. They also lie on their tickets and websites saying that ride time is 3 hours, but it is physically impossible to drive from NY to Greenbelt in 3 hours! Their scheduling is all wrong. I made the mistake of booking this same bus from Greenbelt to New York on Sunday, 10/27 at 8:45pm. I was at the bus stop by 8:20pm that night. There was another passenger waiting with me as we discussed having to be back for work on Monday. When the bus didn't come by 9pm, we started to get worried and started trying to call the customer service number, again with no response. It is ridiculous that there are no workers employed by the company at the bus stop, and no customer service number that works during the times of their operation. Around 9:40+pm, we saw a Go Bus come and got ready only to realize that the bus was just dropping off passengers. We enquired from the bus driver if there is anyone we can contact, and he was of no help as well. We finally got the number to Academy that charters the buses out to Go Buses and the other passenger that was with me managed to get through. He told me that the rep said that the bus was around the corner, and will be there in 10 mins or less. At 10:15 we started to get worried again and called up the same number only for the rep to lie to us that the bus came at 8:28pm and left at 8:32pm, and had picked up 4 passengers! This was a flat out lie because I had been standing at the bus stop the whole time since 8:20 and there was no sign of the bus. Additionally, the departure time was anyways 8:45pm. But the rep refused any further sense in the argument by just saying that "logs don't lie". But this one obviously did. The bus never showed up, I missed a day of paid work since the only bus I could get was the next day, and fell sick from the stress and from waiting out in the cold for 1 hr and 45 mins. read more
