great service- took a trip to DC. plenty of space on the bus

My second (or is it my third trip?) on Go Buses was March 21. We were getting snow that morning and the snow was in some cases falling heavily on way from NY to Newton. But, we arrived at least 20 minutes early. Very chill group of employees . Seats are comfortable, free water the usual lux bus amenities. The price is well worth mentioning too. With my frequent rider points I got the one-way price down to $20. I think that is a great bargain considering the service and the comfort of the bus. read more

You should only ever book a trip with Go Bus if you are positive you will never need assistance from their Customer Service department. The Customer service reps at Go Bus are the most unhelpful in the history of all customer service, and the bus drivers are perennially misinformed. Should you ever have an issue with a bus trip, even if you are not at fault, you will be issued a rude apology, no solutions and no help with rescheduling. I'm actually in a cafe across the street from their stop right now, stranded and figuring out how to get on another company's bus, but I figured I should at least have other potential customers know the mistake they are making in considering traveling with this false pretense of a transportation company. I wish I could give them even less than one star. read more

I was under duress --- my flight to Europe was cancelled out of NYC due to a snow storm but I was able to convince the agent to put me on a flight out of DC. The airline was able to put me on a flight out or Newark to DC the next day, but I was fearful about missing my connecting flight to Europe. This all happened at the last minute. I checked Amtrak (the lines were cancelled), and read all the reviews of the competing bus lines. At the 11th hour Go Bus was available to DC. I've never taken a bus that far out of NYC. Go Bus was easy, on time and all the agents meeting me at the bus were very professional. The bus, was a bus -- so I don't know why anyone complains about the comfort or lack there of --- it's a bus. We were fortunate. There was very little traffic and we arrived almost 30 minutes early. The experience opened my eyes to a super cheap way to get to DC. I actually went to Virginia, which meant the bus was much less crowded. As soon as I was dropped off, I called an Uber and within 15 minutes I was at Dulles airport. I'm a convert. I will consider Go Bus in my other travels out of NYC. read more

I've taken gobus many times before, but it's gone steadily downhill since it was bought by Academy a few years ago. Today's bus was over an hour late departing, they did not have a dispatcher around to let us know what was going on. I tried to call after it was 15min late, sat on hold for 15 more minutes, and was then hung up on--subsequent calls went to voicemail. About five minutes later (over half an hour after the bus was supposed to leave) we received an email that it would leave half an hour later (an hour late)--ironically, that same morning we had received an email saying the bus was on time. The bus that finally arrived was completely empty, meaning it wasn't delayed on a return trip (on a Saturday morning nonetheless). While this trip was exceptionally bad, it's not the first time they've left us hanging. If you care about your time, don't take this bus. If you care about customer service, don't take this bus. If you care about getting what you paid for, don't take this bus. read more

Service is still good and drivers and staff at the sites are great. They launched a new rewards program in November which is great for frequent travelers. There are still problems with their ticket refund system where you receive an email stating that your ticket is canceled and you'll be refunded, then getting no refund. Their facebook pages has many posts noting this issue. After I discovered it, I called, my booking information was forward to "the person who does refunds" and 2 of 4 were refunded that day. I forgot about the other two. Today, I called again because again 2 tickets were canceled on a reservation and no refunds were processed. The agent on the phone could see that 2 were canceled and forwarded the booking information to "the person." 1 of 2 of the canceled tickets have been refunded now. I'm incredulous that their system allows you to cancel tickets, emails you promising your ticket is canceled and will be refunded, then does not process refunds. When I call about it, it goes to "the person" who regularly processes 50% of them. Incredulous that I have to call again to resolve this. read more

I've never left a yelp review before but after my experience with Go Bus yesterday, I feel compelled to. I bought a $44 dollar ticket from Newton to NYC. The greyhound and Peter Pan bus tickets were at least $10 cheaper, but I paid more because Go Bus offers "reliable" service. Their service is anything but reliable. We were supposed to stop once in Hartford, CT. We ended up stopping before Hartford at a rest stop for about 10 minutes while the driver got outside the bus and left us all inside (still don't know what he was doing). We eventually made it to Hartford and picked up more passengers and were on our way. Until the AC stopped working and the temperature of the bus was well over 75 degrees. The driver waited for the woman next to me to ask twice about the unbearable temperature before calling someone. They then inform him that he must turn around and go back north 20 miles to exit 60 in order to get a new bus (we're at exit 85 at this point). So the bus is turned around and we head in the opposite direction of our destination in excruciating heat on the bus. We finally make it there and switching buses takes a good 20 minutes. The new bus doesn't have foot rests or outlets, two things that Go Bus promotes on their website, which made the whole ordeal even worse. We finally make it to NYC at 8:31pm. I got on that original bus at 2:30pm. What was supposed to be a 4.5 hour bus ride turned into a 6 hour bus ride, part of which was spent with no AC. Today I give Go Bus a call to ask what they will be doing to make this up to their customers. Their answer? Nothing. Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. They also don't give out discounts on tickets. Even though it was completely their fault that our trip lasted an extra hour and a half. Oh, but I could send them an email on GoBus.com to let them know what improvements can be made! Save your time, money, and energy and choose a different bus line. Go Bus has terrible customer service, reliability, and has no respect for their customers. read more

Everytimes we went to New York, we will always take the bus from this company. But this time it was a whole new bad experience. We were in the line and matter fact we were the first to be in the line. Bus show up late and the driver talk to the person who check in for customer something and it seem to piss him off. He told the bus driver " No I don't want to deal with this. These customer were here first, I have to check them in first. First come first serve. You can't letting people in without telling me dude. That guy ( he refer to the customer) come and complain all the time". Also other people who work there were shaking their head and said " this is the third times that guy do that. That is not good yo". We don't seem to understand why that family get special treatment so we speak up along with other people were not happy as well. When we get on the bus that trouble maker start yelling at us with tons of bad words because they think it not our business to complain. We don't want to cause trouble but when things is unfair we will speak up for not only ourselves and so does other customers. Even those who were waiting for other bus were shaking their head and not agree with the driver action. When we got on the bus driver walk to us and ask us to apologize to that shitty customer and were like why he told us that he just Want to make everyone happy so I told him why don't he tell them to apologize to us. We didnt call him names we just speak up that unfair things. Never in my life that I had someone come to me ask to apologize for something I didnt do wrong. At the end, that shitty customer and his family have to leave because people who bought the ticket and get no seat were angry. One of the worker check and turn out their name were not on the list so they were not supposed to be on bus. The guy ask them to leave the bus. I do believe the driver and that customer know each other base on their actions that why the driver pick them up along the way without letting the ticket checker know or supervisor know. Also try to give them a seat without paying the bus ticket. I really hope the company will look into this especially the bus driver. His name is Kamal al avi. I traveled from a brand new Go Buses stop in Alexandria, VA to Penn Station, NY in Feb 2017. The bus was clean and well-maintained and the bus driver was courteous and helpful. I was shocked, SHOCKED at how clean the bathroom was. I have never in my life seen a cleaner bathroom within any mode of transportation, certainly not on a bus. Two thumbs up for Go Buses. read more

I've been taking this bus for years, since they first opened. I haven't had too many issues with the rides/buses, all of my trips between NYC and Newton for the most part have been fine. We broke down on one trip, right outside of the city. However, this weekend was the first time I've had to cancel a ticket within 24 hours of my scheduled ride. I understand not receiving a full refund for cancelling within that period, but having had an account with their business for years, I find it ridiculous that your cancelled trip can't be used towards a future ride. Since they have a points system, I don't understand why they can't put the dollars spent towards points to use on a future ride. With so much competition, they really need to improve their customer service. read more

I had a great experience with Go Buses deporting from Manhattan to Fairfax, VA. The Manhattan location is easily accessible from the Henry Hudson Parkway and located near a large bus depot. The service provides free water, WiFi and restrooms with most fares around $20. The dropoff location in Fairfax and Manassas is perfect for those that live in VA, as most bus services drop by Union. The drivers for courteous and safe as well. I will definitely be riding with them again. We even arrived early! read more

1 star minus one. Our elderly parents are traveling to Virginia and we had a terrible experience at this bus stop. The bus arrived 10 minutes late which happens with NYC traffic. However the employees were very rude. It's pouring rain. It took them another 5 minutes to figure out which bus was going to Virginia of the 3 present. Once they decided which bus was going where they rushed everyone onto the bus. Our parents aren't very mobile so we had to escort each one of the from our car 30 feet away from the go buses parking lot. We boarded one of our parents and explained that we were getting the other person from the car. The car is visible from the bus location. 1 minute later as we walked back the bus was packed up and about to take off so we had to run. The same attendant we spoke to before played for ignorant and was annoyed. There was an elderly women asking for directions and the staff brushed her away. The staff needs to take a customer experience course and sensitivity training. It's ok to be efficient but you need to give customers the same amount of time to board as if you arrived to the terminal on time even if you are late. read more

I took the 8 AM trip from NYC to Newton, MA. It was $28 and I got 2,800 loyalty points as a reward, which seems to be a great way of giving customers free, affordable tickets and have them come back for more. The bus driver was courteous and swift. They offered me free water and seemed to care that I was comfortable. I didn't even have to show him my ticket, it was all digital. The bus left prompt at 8 AM. No hassle, just go (no pun intended). The bus driver seemed experienced and knew what he was doing. The bus itself was clean and air conditioned. It looks fairly new and had semi-comfortable seats. My only complaint was that the outlets for some of the seats didn't seem to work. However, the mannerism, cleanliness, and swift departure more than made up for the fact that I couldn't charge my phone exactly where I wanted to sit. You're taking the bus, not a luxury jet, and for what it's worth, GoBus seems to be a fantastic service. The fact that GoBus arrives in places like Newton and Cambridge instead of Boston might dissuade some people from wanting to ride, but these low-key bus stops cause not too many people to be on the bus. This allows for a relaxed, quiet bus ride instead of loud settings such as Megabus. We also arrived 45 minutes (!) early to our destination, something that I appreciate immensely. All-in-all, GoBus is an enjoyable experience for what a bus ride is worth. They seem to care about your time and you can't say the same for many other transportation services. If you're looking for an affordable transportation method and have the means to get to where you want after they drop you off, I would highly recommend GoBus. read more

Just terrific, low-cost buses to many destinations. Friendly staff and complimentary bottles of water on most buses. The routes to Northern Virginia are especially convenient for me, and typically Go Buses have the lowest fares, not to mention a great loyalty program (when you reach Gold status you can even redeem points for partial fares). I will GLADLY wait outside in any weather to avoid the raging dumpster fire that is Port Authority Bus Terminal. The only reason I still take Bolt and Mega on occasion is the frequency of schedules. But with any luck, Go Buses will grow and start to run more routes daily! read more

The bus from NYC to Virginia arrived 20 minutes late. There is no signs or any indication of where to wait for the bus. They say "on the corner". Well there are 4 corners! Which one? I called the company and They told me to stand "infront of the library." That is NOT where the bus arrived. It stopped by penn station. All us passengers sat in the bus waiting while one of the drivers went to get something to eat. They did not give us water until I finally asked for it 2 hours into the ride. Nobody else got any water because they didn't ask. It's was cold on the bus. The good news is the bus is clean, and it was not crowded on a Thursday morning from NYC to VA. It was only $30. Round trip so the price is very good . The ride from va to NYC was much better. We stopped at a rest stop for 15 minutes. They gave us water. Temperature on the bus was better. Overall this bus is a great value. It's much less expensive than driving. read more

Although Go Buses may not be a as fancy as a plane or Amtrak, it is the best bus company in my eyes compared to others, such as Greyhound, Megabus, and Peterpan. You can buy your tickets online, and refund them 24 hours before your bus time. Along with that, you can get points which can go toward you next purchase. Keep in mind that most bus companies do NOT let you refund tickets. This is extremely convenient if you have changes in travel plans. The few times I've interacted with their customer service have been pretty good. I purchased the wrong tickets once, and the person assisting me was extremely friendly. Another time, I left my bag on the bus, the 1st person I spoke to was a little rude, but I spoke to someone else and they were extremely helpful, and I got my bag back with ease. I have yet to encounter them being super late, and I've taken Go Buses many times from Newton to New York and back. The only time they were late was when it was snowing, but they emailed everyone an hour beforehand that the bus will be 20 minutes late. Their wifi is kinda spotty, but that should be expected, and their charging outlets have worked every time I've ridden with them. Also, they had complementary Keurig hot chocolate at their Riverside station when I was riding near the holidays. I feel like many people write reviews because they are mad and upset about once or two incidents, and many people who do enjoy their experience don't bother to write reviews. I refuse to take any other bus company, because they usually suck at accommodating peoples changes in travel plans, and being on time. Go Buses isn't the greatest in the world, but for the price, it is great. read more

Our bus was supposed to be at Tysons Corner metro station at 4:50, with 86 degree hot weather out there, it showed up at 5:20, still waiting to ride some people who has not showed up yet!! I had a pleasant experience with Go Bus to and from Manhattan and Providence. The bus was clean, complimentary water was provided, free WiFi, and there are outlets on the bus as well. The bus departed on time and I didn't run into any issues. The best part, the cost of my bus ticket was cheap! 5 bucks each way! I will definitely use Go Bus again. read more

I was on the 3:30 pm departure from Riverside to New York City labor day. After the first bus broke down before leaving Riverside, the rescue bus broke down in Connecticut. After over an hour of waiting, our driver told us that a second rescue bus wasn't coming and that at some undetermined point someone would come to try to fix the bus but that there was no definite timeline. I ended up having to take an UBER 30 minutes to New Haven and the metro north from there to get home. I was also on a Go bus from New York to Boston that broke down. At this point the name Go Buses is just comical. read more

I had a terrible experience with Go Buses. I arrived with my party at the station 10 minutes before my bus departed, and waited 30 minutes before calling Customer Service, who said we'd missed the bus which had departed at 1:00. The station was incredibly small - we would have noticed a big bus pulling in and leaving. When we called customer service again to try to get a refund, the representative was incredibly rude and dismissive. Will not be traveling with Go Buses again. read more

Arrived 20 minutes early for an 8:45pm GO bus from Greenbelt, MD to NY. An hour and a half later, after no bus had shown, I called the dispatch office and found that all the northbound buses had already left. Either the bus driver skipped the stop, or GO Bus sold me a ticket for a stop that didn't exist -- either way, me and three other riders were left completely in the lurch, with no other buses til morning. This is the second time I used go bus First, the likes. Convenient to take a bus from Newton instead of south station. It is relatively clean and has an efficient process For boarding Second, the cons. The bathroom dud not have toilet paper. Midway they we stopped at a Burger King and the driver was able to obtain toilet paper. The drivers gave got to learn how to drive. They have lead feet. Route 95 gas traffic almost always. So why do they have to speed up and then slam the crashes to stop or slow down ???!!!! Thus us a sure sign of bad driving skills. Aka you are making me nauseous and potentially getting us into an accident so chill out!! Additionally, the wifi is intermittent and the AC is jacked And fir done unknown reason the bus took a route that went into queens (Astoria / lag ) from the Bronx that added another 30 mins to the trip. Go Buses always leave on time and not a minute late, which is stressful for those always running late. I want to give a shout out to Paul from the Riverside location, who was the sweetest when I forgot something at home and had to call my friend to bring it. He said if she couldn't make it on time, he would make sure it got brought up on the next bus and I could get it in NYC. I've just used Go Buses for my weekend trip to Providence, RI from NYC. Their price was slightly lower than Mega Bus but they arrived at the same stop in Providence so I decided to try something new... And that was a great experience, from the very beginning (purchasing the tickets online) till the end of the trip (returning to NYC on Sunday night). Their web-site is very easy to use and not overloaded with unnecessary information so the whole booking process took me less than 5 minutes. The bus was new, comfortable, clean and fast. But the most important, it departed and arrived ON TIME! Their stops were easy to find (usually they are not at the traditional bus terminals) so I didn't spend time walking around. I will definitely choose Go Buses again! read more

I had to get to Providence and didn't want to spend over $200 for an Amtrak ticket, so after reading many reviews, I decided to book the GoBus. This was a great choice for me. The bus was exactly where it said it would be, they gave you water, the driver was nice and the route was quick and efficient. The only reason this is 4 stars and not 5 is because the Wifi is pretty spotty, (you're better off using 4G or data) and there were no outlets on the seats on the way back. The seats are pretty uncomfortable when the person in front of you pushes their chair back, but it is worth the $50 round trip ticket. read more

Terrible! Rude! The woman tried to charge us extra for not printing our etickets. She backed down when I asked for her name to report her to management. Then the driver was on a phone call laughing and talking louder than anyone on the bus. I had to literally tell him to be quiet. What kind of driver takes personal calls while on the job? WiFi definitely does not work, they have routers but no one could connect and my device said "no internet connectivity" under the router signal. We also stopped in Providence for an HOUR - much longer than originally planned which made us late for scheduled arrival REGARDLESS OF TRAFFIC. In other words, there was no physical way a vehicle could make the route on the time they had scheduled. I think their HQ screwed up and schedule the Providence passengers at too late a time but they blamed traffic - not the case at all. read more

I take Gobuses every weekend to Boston from NYC and have been doing that for almost 8 months now. Service is amazing compared to other bus services (I have tried them all, yes!). The only downsides are that there is no priority boarding for platinum members - as promised - in NYC and they should build a tent for people to wait for their buses protected from sun and rain. NYC to Newton/Cambridge, MA. Bus left on time and driver was nice and professional. However, the dispatcher forced the driver to reroute because of traffic due to an "accident" on the current route. We were almost through the traffic in CT already, so turning around to reroute literally going backwards (seeing the Welcome to New York sign was a treat) was such an idiotic and diabolical move that added a completely unnecessary 1.5+ hours to the trip. Plus we hit even more traffic on the new route. Total travel time: 6.75 hours. Save yourself the headache and treat yourself to an Amtrak instead. read more

I took the noon Academy Go Bus from NYC to Boston with my 2 kids & cousin this past Tuesday. I was apprehensive traveling by bus with kids and chose this over Bolt Bus & Mega Bus for 3 reasons: significantly lower cost, less negative reviews and the ability to stop in Newton or Cambridge. I am so glad I went on Academy Go Bus & would recommend it to anyone. I give it a 3 stars because of the confusing boarding & location issues in NYC & spotty wifi coverage which annoyed my kids. Others have complained the boarding location on W30th is confusing and frustrating. I called no less than 3 times trying to narrow it down because my taxi companies wanted a specific address. No employee could give me an answer other than W30th St between 9th AV & 10th AV. Aargh!!! We were in the cab heading east (one way street) on W30th with lots of traffic heading closer to 9th and still seeing nothing. I was panicking with 2 kids, but grateful my Paisa Taxi driver Marcos wasn't going to stop in the middle of the street and say get out. Finally I saw buses parked facing the opposite direction on the other side of a small median. How difficult would it have been to say there's a small street Dyer which is immediately north of W30th st median and only on the right half of the block closer to 9th AV. Which feeds into an alley for Lincoln Tunnell. Marcos let us out on the north side of W30th on the sidewalk median. Kids and I crossed Dyer to the fence where there were lines of 10 people. Found the one for Boston by asking passengers. Eventually saw an employee who confirmed I was in the correct line. Check in was easy showed my phone. Bus was delayed so I had time to grab lunch at 9th AV Deli (recommended by 2 passengers behind us) on southeast corner of W30th & 9th. Delicious made to order sandwiches & bagels! Bus eventually arrived, baggage collected underneath and separated by Newton or Cambridge, we boarded & left. There's small overhead space for narrow luggage. Seats are bus seats nothing more, nothing less. Has seat belts which is a plus for me because I am the CA mom who's a safety nazi. Wifi was spotty. I didn't see any outlets but u made sure all our devices were fully charged before we left my aunts in Queens. There's a bathroom but I didn't use it. My cousin tried said it was clean but she left because the bus was too shaky. The drive was smooth & driver courteous. We left late but arrived early in Newton & then Cambridge. Easy to get into Boston from either stop by subway. I'd take this bus again in a heartbeat! read more

I want 0 stars today. Usually, it would be 5. This is the ride from Hell! I made it home and typed this up....Can't find email to send to the company. I often take this bus to NYC from Newton. I usually love it and always recommend it. I won't after May 11! This bus left NY at 10:05am and we are hitting every pothole, weaving in and out of traffic and even did so while still in the city. It's my first time with this driver. His Saucon alarm won't stop beeping, he just passed a line of traffic and jumped in at the exit entrance....oh wow! I hope GO Bus Company can check his speed. He even stopped ON the highway to use the restroom. He didn't pull off or even to a breakdown lane. He stopped between the slow lane and an exit. And, if I hear him hold his hand on the horn one more time I will scream. There is no consideration for our safety! Hope we make it. Happy Mothers Day to me..... read more

The bus was very crowded and not super comfortable when you have to have a seat mate. The bus stop in Manhattan is a little confusing to find. I see people that have complained about outlets and wifi - I didn't even realize buses had these things! Being in the aisle was uncomfortable and the seat was broken and didn't go back. If I wanted total comfort, I guess I could have shelled out a couple of hundred for Amtrak, so for the price the Go Bus is just fine. read more

K maybe I was just lucky... had a round trip and thought it was the best bus trips that I've taken. Vehicle was clean and new. Arrived on time. Power outlet was good both ways. So was the internet. I actually got some work done and had my phone charged up. I like how the side wall is cushuoned/charpeted instead of cold, hard surface. Maybe it's because I picked the less popular times, but it really beats mega and Greyhound from my experience. read more

My route was from Washington DC (L'Enfant plaza) to NYC (Manhattan). Checked in was easy, driver was punctual, and we all got a free cold bottled water. WiFi did not work, but I was okay with it. Yes, I was a bit worried initially because of some bad reviews. But I had a good experience with them and was very happy with the fact that we got to NYC safely and on time. read more
