Great idea for Thanksgiving anytime - but the execution fails. Thanksgiving is about sides and choices. Here it is green beans and mashed potatoes only. Add lots of side choices and variants (like potato salad varieties (mustard type, more mayo type, chunky, smooth) and vegetable casserole choices, or any choice of a million other things). Two or three stuffing types .. and on and on. The current way isn't about Thanksgiving, it is just about turkey really. read more

I've always gone to the Gaylord location, however since that location closed, the Waters location got it's shot. It has plusses and minuses compared to other location. On the outside it looks almost identical to other location. On the inside there's more room, a plus. The seats and booths are more comfortable, a plus. The inside atmosphere is sterile, a negative. By this I mean the ceiling and walls had tons of knock knacks, license plates and signs, this gave the place great character. This location is also about 15 minutes further away from the cottage, also a negative. I ordered Gobbler Plate, with white meat only ($18 plus $1.50). This comes with 12 oz of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, cranberry, and a buttermilk biscuit. I don't like green beans so I got double mashed potatoes. The food was excellent. There was zero different for Gaylord location, a plus. It also came out super quick. The person I was with got same thing except she got all dark meat, no upcharge for that. Plus instead of green beans she got a bowl of cranberries sauce. She also enjoyed the meal. I ordered a slice of pumpkin pie to go ($5). I had it that night with some ice cream and caramel sauce. Wow caramel and pumpkin pie go together very well. The pie itself was very good. The service was good. Very friendly, just a little chaotic. I forgive those things now days. Overall a 5 star review. This is the real deal and a Hidden Gem! This place did not disappoint on the homemade food. I loved going to their old down town location. This location is brite & roomy. The workers are upbeat, polite and smiley. Every year I want to stop but miss the lunch & dinner bell time for several years. I finally stopped for a late lunch or early dinner. They have several sized plates to meet your appetite. I ordered the 4 oz plate. Wish I chose a bigger plate but was glad I didn't. It tastes that good. Thanksgiving in July! I was gleeful from beginning to end. Gobblers has two locations in Waters and Gaylord, not too far apart from each other off of I75. I learned that everything is housemade and they have many home made desserts as well. This is a locally- owned restaurant with the welcome mat out to serve hungry locals and travelers alike. Just would you'd expect... Turkey meals! We all ordered something different and everything was delicious. Homemade onion rings were fantastic. Turkey biscuit, open face turkey sandwich, and turkey meal were all on point. You do need to add your own seasoning as not much seasoning as served. And everything was warm, not hot. Well, all I can say is something must have happened to this business. Although the food is still good, the portion sizes have been decreased by at least a third of what they used to be. I've made Thanksgiving dinner close to 50 years and no matter what I try my white meat is always at least a tad dry. Not at Gobblers of Waters! Their turkey is ALWAYS juicy & delicious - nay- MOUTHWATERING! Sides are also fabulous - stuffing, mashed potatoes (which I don't usually do ish but I do here!) and green beans just like Mom used to make them - a tad mushy & taste like out of the can, but I doubt it & nostalgic in their own right. Finally tried their turkey noodle soup & it has risen to the top of my soup chain. The broth is less greasy thank chicken noodle usually is, a bit thicker & seasoned to perfection, with carrots, noodles & turkey. Outstanding!! They also have fish, shrimp & a host of other mains, but they aren't called Gobblers for nuthin'! Have never tried other entrees - just can't do it. Finally their cookies are also AMAZING! Pro tip: grab a box when you arrive & take to your table or booth because they go FAST. Server will add it to your check. Servers are always kind, friendly & efficient. I have never been let down once in 32 years both in Gaillard and now the main location and, I think, the only location. We didn't know what to expect and were pleasantly surprised! Immediately from entering the restaurant, we knew we had made a good choice. Was extremely clean, Homie, and friendly! Nathan made us at the door and seated us immediately. Veronica took our order, made suggestions, and was very attentive! You knew immediately that this was family. Everything was packed perfectly, with the gravy in a cup so it wouldn't tip over, biscuits in a separate bag as to not get soggy, and everything still warm and delicious when I got home. I was looking for a quick place to stop for lunch while driving back to Northern Michigan. I stopped at (at least) 7 fast-food places in the previous 30 miles, and their car lines were around their buildings. Screw that. I drove the extra bit to Waters, MI, to have a good, quick, sit-down lunch. I've eaten here before, and hey, if you can distill your business to a US Holiday (Thanksgiving), I'm all for some patriotic eating. Looking for a restaurant that is not fast food nor a chain, yesterday we stumbled into this place. My son and I both had the baby turkey dinner, and I thought it was OK. The stuffing kinda taste like wet mess, but the potatoes and turkey was nice, I got a bowl of turkey noodle soup. I don't know if they use frozen carrots, or if they freeze the soup and reheat it, but the carrots had that, frozen texture, it was rather gross. I stopped back today because I saw a customer yesterday with an Amazing looking turkey sandwich. I ordered my large turkey sandwich, as yesterday. I ordered the small 4 ounce turkey, which came with a couple of nice slices, today The turkey kinda looked like the crumbs left over, after you carve the real turkey and I think that was less turkey that I had in my meal last night, maybe the 9 ounces includes the gravy. And instead of mashed potatoes they gave me more of that wet mess stuffing, I sat there and tried my best to eat my sadness, and after I was done, the waitress finally came by, and I asked her about the mashed potatoes, and she never stopped by to see how everything was. She did offer to bring me some mashed potatoes but I had to go, she explained they had a new Cook. I'm thinking is that why the guys turkey sandwich yesterday was amazing and mine look like frozen TV dinner? I also ordered a glass of hand squeeze lemonade, I think the only thing hand squeeze was the concentrated reconstituted lemon juice bottle. I know what fresh squeezed lemonade taste like and I know what lemonade from a jar taste like, save yourself the four dollars and do not order this. The total was $23.83. Wished they had a combo of chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies but the peanut butter cookies were excellent.
