The waitress remembered my sister and I, which is always such a bonus. Ambience is historical with the old pictures of the railroad that used to go through there. We actually used a four dollar Senior ticket that you can pick up at the Senior Center's. Their breakfast was delicious. The hashbrowns were made crispy. The omelette was done to perfection. Sorry I have no pictures to post this time but it was 1130 and I hadn't eaten breakfast so I just went at it. My sister's breakfast was exceptional as well. read more

Imagine a menu that offers pesto soup, old fashioned liver & onions (if you like that sort of thing) and homemade pies. Over the years I have heard a complaint here & there over an item, but those complaints seem to center around the less than perfect nature of their meal, not something truly bad. Just went here for breakfast and so good! There were tons of specials on their menu and I was really impressed by the selection for being so far out. Several of the breads are home made so be sure to ask because they are soooo good! I had the big breakfast platter with biscuits and gravy and home fries and sausage patties eggs and it was so much food! The biscuits and gravy weren't my favorite and they don't have any side dishes of fruit (but the waitress did give me a bunch of melon!) but those are by far the worst things I can say about this place. The building was the old train station for the area and it has tons of train themed decorations which are really interesting. Overall it was very clean and updated and very friendly staff. If you are in the area stop in for breakfast for sure! read more

The best restaurant of all time. It's right by my cottage but I have traveled distances for this fresh meal. Whether it's breakfast or dinner this gem has great prices and fresh food and fast service. Homemade bread, pie, cake, sauces, coleslaw, and more. They make it all. The best asparagus in town while it is in season. Local white fish and perch. I could go on forever. I'm a vegetarian and I never leave disappointed. My parents like home cooked classics and love it as well. I was raised coming into this joint. It has history, and they know how to serve up a good meal. Great little hometown diner with friendly wait staff and a grandma's kitchen sort of feel. Stopped in for breakfast with my family and enjoyed every minute. In addition to the excellent pies, breakfast is quite good. Like Craig R., we go here when visiting my in-laws' cabin. I've never been here for lunch or dinner, but breakfast is worth the trip. Besides the ususal pancakes-eggs-waffles fare, the menu features some unusual items. I had a gyro scramble - feta, eggs, gyro topped on a pita. Kind of an open faced egg thing. We stopped on our way by going to Gaylord for breakfast. Very good and the coffee is the best ever. They serve Coke products too. We love Eggs Benedict and let me tell you, it's perfect. Old Depot gets a 2 star rating from my simply because it was great the last time we ate there. This time it was better then fast food, but not by much. Bread was great, the whitefish fries were very good, and its a good thing because the "autumn pork chop special" wasnt at all as it sounded. The sauce was thick and like glue while the pork chop itself was tough and very dry, the rice was very dry, I didnt eat what was served and also wasnt asked if it was OK. Wifes usual "taste of poland" was not up to standard as in the past. To top it off, dinner was $38.30, and wound up being charged $39.30. Simple typo, or simply being overcharged. No biggie, just took it out of the tip. WONT BE BACK. read more

This is an excellent little restaurant. They make their food from scratch, as far as I've been able to tell. The pies are especially good. As a point of interest, The Old Depot really was an old railroad depot; Joburg was at the end of a spur of the Michigan Central Railroad. The tracks were taken up decades ago, but the depot remained. It was located nearer the corner than the current building. A few years ago a car ran through that corner and crashed into the building. As I recall, this was not an accident. It's a sad story, and explains the memorial plaques by the entrance door, in case you were wondering. read more

This place is amazing! On first glance, the unpretentious decor -- and price point -- would suggest a Mom-and-Pop style diner; and perhaps it is, assuming Mom is an expert pie-baker, and Pop is an excellent and inventive cook. We've eaten here any number of times, both for breakfast and dinner, including one memorable stop for pie and coffee after being drenched by a thunderstorm while biking, and everytime has been delicious. The menu is basically American with some Polish influence (the owners are named Pohutsky), but with unexpected twists which set the Old Depot above and beyond. On our most recent visit, for breakfast, I ordered a mushroom and cheese omelette, with hashbrowns and wheat toast. Standard diner fare, right? Yes, but the omelette was overflowing with monterey jack cheese and sliced portabellas, sauteed and seasoned with garlic and herbs; the hasbrowns were home-made (not frozen); and the toasting bread was from the house-baked mini-loaves which come standard with each entree. Other reviewers have raved about the pies, so I won't bother, except to add, "those reviewers are right!" The service is always friendly and attentive, quick to refill your coffee mug or glass of iced tea. Credit cards are accepted, but a $1.00 processing surcharge is added, which seems odd. The Old Depot is located on the site of a former railway depot, from the area's days as a center of the lumber industry; it sits on rural street corner, next to the local high school and across from a post office and a branch of the county library. To sum up: the Old Depot is proof one can offer snob-quality food without charging snob-quality prices. read more

Fantastic food! I love the chunky garlic hot sauce they have at the table. Service is very good. Our food came out pretty quick. My wife had the kielbasa and sauerkraut omelette. They make their own sauerkraut. If you order something that does not have sauerkraut with it, ask for a side of it. It is incredible. I had a coney omelette but I changed out the ground beef for hot dog. Their coney sauce is wonderful and I will go back just to get some dogs next time. My one complaint is their coffee. It is so weak it looks like a strong tea. I was surprised because everything else is quality but they really lack in the coffee area. I would still go back anytime I am around there. read more

We had heard so many nice things about this restaurant that we looked forward to going there. We went after church on Sunday. The service was poor - we had to ask for cream for our coffee. The food was so-so (nothing to rave about). And, the menu said my daughter's entree, "Karen's Quiche Du Jour", came with "tossed salad or cup of soup & grilled homemade bread." When the waitress brought out only the quiche, we asked about the salad my daughter had ordered and the bread and were informed that those items were on the "breakfast"menu and not served for lunch. The menu, however, did not mention a time frame for any specific entrees. I wouldn't go back - it's not worth the drive. read more

Had a group of 6 (3 couples) and everyone ordered something different with similar comments.
