I was actually very surprised by how my night went at this place. My wife and I decided to go on a whim and we waited for about 10 minutes while they took in their 5 people at a time for coat check. Upon walking in, I saw that there's not much to the place and I was already pretty disappointed, but the night got better and better as it went by. Initially, since I'm used to more lavish clubs and bars being from Las Vegas, I unfairly judged it by its appearance, but I had a great time! I met some very nice people and the shows were so intriguing. The music was not my cup of tea, but I danced to it anyway and it was fun. I didn't get to try any food, or drinks, I will next time. Usually free on the weekends. - Do not be turned off by the dinginess upon your entry into the holding room that functions as a dance floor/club/dressing room. - Tight spaces in the restaurant itself. Hang your coat up or leave it behind in your car. - Know what you want to order ASAP and get your order in first, otherwise, it will take forever. Crab & Eggs ($10.95) is the prototypical favorite and comes with a side of fruit. Good, not amazing. You're really there for the show, not food. - Checks are not split. I've heard about Godfreys for a year or so but was never able to go. We went on Sunday afternoon. We were sadly disappointed.. The unsmiling owners were all business --changing out large bills for ones-- not one bit personable-- strictly business-- The waiters were more fun than anything else there.. I agree, the crab benne had brown, fishy, "tasted like canned", crabmeat on top. The " actors" were all either very overweight, old, one was even unshaven, and seemed to do NOTHING except literally RUN down the runway and collect money-- it seemed like that was their main goal--They almost seemed bored-- a few times we were waving money to get a picture and they never even looked our way.. Just hurried down the runway...I've read where the MC was hysterical. I didn't even see one except a voice announcing the next Queen.. Several people in our group had been there numerous times, and said this show was awful.. Guess that will be my FIRST and LAST time there. read more

Yes another Godfrey's review by a straight girl that attended drag brunch. First, let me just say that I LOVE drag queens. I have a deep appreciation for them and for what they do. My sister actually went to drag brunch before I did. While she was there she called me to let me know how I had to come. So a few weeks later we organized a group to attend the brunch. For anyone hoping to attend, some advice: make reservations early. Drag brunch is a very popular event. Even with the sometimes two shows they have on Sunday, it can be very hard to get seats. As I have said, I am a very picky eater. But I usually can find something pretty tasty for brunch. Usually waffles or French toast. I have friends who swear by the eggs Benedict. The perfect compliment to the brunch is a tasty Mimosa or Bloody Mary and usually there are multiple drink specials throughout the show. But the real reason to go isn't the brunch, its the performers. I have seen other drag performances and few compare. Usually a few even come up from Raleigh and they all give a great performance. Most people sing a long with the music and just have a good time. Make sure to tip them well because they definitely deserve it. And if you are easily embarrassed be careful of the MC. He is hilarious but will call you out. This is definitely worth the time so make sure you take a Sunday and as the MC puts it "go worship at gay church"! read more

I visited Godfrey's for the first time with some friends for a birthday celebration. I've never been to a drag show, so I didn't know what to expect. Godfrey's opened at 6 pm, but since I don't know the city well, or the parking situation, I got there a little early. I was able to park on the street fairly easily. My friend informed me that there was a parking garage a few blocks down. So, a few of us were standing outside so a gentleman from the club let us in early to escape the cold. We had to sit on the bar side while they finished setting up. Then he came out to see if anyone needed one dollar bills to tip the girls. It was a three hour show which included dinner and the girls singing, dancing and interacting with the crowd. My friend had a groupon for 6, but I don't know how much it costed. The groupon included 3 appetizers, and and entree for everyone one. I must say the at the food was pretty good, and the portion sizes were good. The can make also every thing you can think of to drink, with the exception of frozen daquiris, and the drinks are around $8.00. The drinks I had were pretty tasty. The service is a tad bit slow because the food is made to order. So, I would recommend that if you're going to eat to get there on time. A few folks in our party were late, which then delayed the server putting in our food order. The hostess for the evening was named Heavenly, and she was hilarious and very engaging. The other "girls" were good too. There are 2 - 10 minute intermissons, so that's an opportunity to use the restroom and stretch your legs. The decor is about what you would expect to see. Nothing fancy at all. If you go in the winter time dress appropriately as the door to the outside is opened frequently to let the "girls" in for their performance. All in all, I would go again. Make sure you go with people that like to have fun, and will interact with the "girlss." They will pick on everyone just to have a good time. I got humped on, and my girlfriend got her face shoved into Heavenly's boobs. It was her birthday, so she had a ball. One last thing I can recommend would be to take cash. The bill comes all together and the gratuity is included. There is an ATM in the building, but my friend said it didn't work that night. At 10 pm, it turns into a club and we were going to just stay because we wanted to dance, but Heavenly said it didn't start "jumping" til 11. She sat and talked to us for a while, but around 10 we decided to call it a night. read more

Super fun drag brunch show!! The ladies put on a great show and the staff is super friendly and helpful. It's $15 for the show, brunch entree and non-alcoholic drinks, not bad! I thoroughly enjoyed myself. You may have to wait a while for your food to come out (our show was at 2pm and people were getting their food up until 4pm) but you won't be bored while you wait. I ordered the club sandwich and it was mediocre and had a lot of mayo (but I didn't mind because I was there for entertainment more so than a gourmet sandwich!). I will definitely be back. read more

Went for the Sunday drag brunch, it was outrageous, fun and also super yummy. The whole brunch runs a little on the long side, but its definitely an experience not to be missed. You need reservations and have to arrive on time with the right amount of people in your party. If someone doesn't show up you still have to pay for them. I organized a girls' night here for the brunch and drag show on a Sunday. Fab.u.lous. Very fun way to start the day. Those ladies were working it. Lots of enthusiasm, lots of laughs, lots of flesh haha. Food was decent. Make sure you bring some bills to tip the ladies. And please make sure your outfit is on point, they'll call you out. For our girls' night, I had our group wear hats and the best hat won a prize. One of my friends came in with a Blossom -looking hat she thought was adorable. Went here for a Sunday cabaret dinner show. We had groupons which were a SUPER good deal. The place is small so it felt intimate but not crowded. The food was good, the spinach dip was the best appetizer we had (cheese dip leaves something to be desired). I had a steak for dinner which was good, lots of people a our table had crab cakes and said they were delicious. Service was good. Our drinks were always full and our server was very friendly! The MC for the drag show was fabulous. The performers were average. After the show our server was very helpful in separating the check which was good for our party of 8. Fun! Fun! Fun! We came to celebrate a birthday with a large group and everyone had a great time. Our party arrived about 15-30 mins before the noon seating. We were one of the last tables seated, but our waiter quickly got our drink and food orders as the show was starting. Our drinks and food took a while, as our table didn't receive our plates until there were only a few performances left. The food was tasty and hot when it arrived. I had the crab omelette, a side salad, and their special drink, the pink pussy (highly recommend). Did not mind the wait for the food as the divas kept us entertained. Each performance was unique and their interactions with the crowds was my favorite thing to watch. I cannot wait to visit again! read more

Though this bar is the only LGBT bar in Richmond that admits the under 21 crowd, I have noticed a mixture of clientel in this place. The seating is a little crowded for the space, but there are plenty of chairs. There is a cover and a re-entry fee for all customers. read more

I went for one of their dinner drag shows and it was a ton of fun. I don't think I would eat their again but queens are legit. The place itself is seedy as hell. I did have free tickets to there Thursday night male review so I went. We were lectured for not "being enthusiastic enough" and they ended up not doing the show. Their were only 5 of us and some had paid an admission fee. I think they just didn't want to be there. Then someone with sticky fingers took my phone back stage. First time coming here and they were running late for the show me and my spouse ordered the mimosa it wasn't good the OJ tasted old. For the brunch we had the omelette with potatoes it was warm not hot. We also had the banana French toast the bottom of the plate was covered in syrup I didn't like that. Dancers were ok only one was worth watching the host was funny but not such a great dancer. One dancer smelled funky after everything was said and done our bill was 54 dollars not worth the money you spend here. read more

I just recently had my first experience at Godfrey's, and I can't WAIT to go back! This place is fantastic! My group went for their infamous brunch. You can get any of their delicious entrees and a drink (non-alcoholic) for $15, and their libations range in price- pretty much typical bar prices, with the exception of their specialty drinks which tend to be a little more expensive. As far as the food goes, it was terrific, and a very generous portion for the price. I ordered the Crab Chesapeake, which is their take on eggs benedict made with crab, and a side salad with your preference of dressing. We had to wait a little while longer than everyone else for our food, which is honestly my only tiff about the whole experience. As for the entertainment, the queens definitely did not disappoint! Each performer did several songs and had a lot of fun with the guests. When you first enter the club and are waiting to be seated, a gentleman comes around the waiting room with $1 bills so you can break bigger bills to tip the performers. I found this very convenient and a smart move on their part. I definitely recommend experiencing Godfrey's for Sunday brunch- you will have a fabulous time! read more

My experience is based on the rude and unwelcoming experience I had. Walking in to Godfreys on a Sunday to check out the raved about Drag Brunch was an experience I won't forget. First walking in there was no host/hostess and you immediately walk into a tiny space filled with tables too close for comfort. Looking around for a waiter waitress someone that looked like a employee finally we encounter a waiter? I guess. He looked at us so I asked if there were any tables available for brunch, he said no I asked was there a wait? He said no tables were available I asked could we sit at the bar ( seeing that people were sitting there with food and menus) he said no. He finally said we need reservations. I had to ask can we make reservations he said NO their booked up for 4 weeks. So much attitude!!!! I got it that he wasn't concerned about us as potential customers.Through all of this I was patient because I normally would've gone off on his rude and unprofessional representation of business. Instead I take time out to post my experience for the masses to see. Thanks to YELP and the Internet it's so easy to make others aware of the bad practices of businesses before you waste your time and money. I will never step foot back in that so called restaurant / drag club. Also the exterior doesn't make you comfortable about the cleanliness of the interior.
