Beautiful venue. Attended a Quinceañera party for a friend's' daughter. Absolutely top notch employees, food, music. Elegant but not stuffy. A good time was had by all!

Impeccable bathroom. Every restaurant ain't rockin this well.

Came in on a Friday at a quarter to 1:00. There weren't too many patrons at that time but service was as attentive as it should be. I mention that first because I've been to many places where a down time in the day can equal lacking service. I found the menu and it's Art Deco typescript to be be a great touch. I am all about Art Deco elements. After placing my order and receiving my drink I went all the way upstairs to visit the restroom. Going upstairs I really got a feel if the place and I loved it. The restaurant is in a huge, renovated mansion I would say. I believe the restaurant is a great use of the space and and an awesome tribute to Historic Jackson Ward. The bathroom was the reason I was upstairs and I gave my visit 5 Stars off that! Many good restaurant have iffy restrooms but I could definitely slide off to the water closet here and take an important phone call and be at ease. I was going to get the Yardbird and Waffle but I went for a simple thing like Tenders and Fries. I wasn't expecting exceptionalism nor did it give me that. They were solid but the BBQ Mustard that came with was bum! I would pay for that bottled and I don't even eat mustard. The presentation was grade A+! Garnish for Tenders and Fries--as god as it gets!

Tried this restaurant for the first time during Richmond Black Restaurant Week. Service was a little slow, but this may have been due to more people coming in than usual, not sure. Had to ask for a drink menu and then after friends were ordering things I didn't see on the menu, realized my food menu didn't have a back page. So felt slightly cheated in my choices. But, ordered app size shrimp and grits and a side salad. It was good, not the best I've had, but still okay. I'd return to try other menu items and perhaps during a less busy time to try and support. Friends I dined with all said their food was good too.

Fantastic food and excellent service! Terri was wonderful and very attentive to our needs. My husband got the chicken burger (Yardbird Burger) with Macon County Fries I got the house salad with salmon. We shared an order of wings to start and the Mansion sauce was exquisite. All the food was fresh and delicious. Definitely going back!!

I came to the Speakeasy Grill to see Legacy Band in action and I must say: This was one of the most amazing nights I've had in a while. Spoken word, rhythmic melodies, and a relaxing vibe. The food was fine, but I loved the experience. I can't wait to visit again this month!

Ambiance: a hidden gem in the Jackson Ward so there was no crowd and we were seated in a timely manner.

A must stop in the downtown Richmond area!…read more It's truly a speakeasy with the door posing as a bookshelf. To get in, you must know the password or tell the host a joke that makes him laugh. We were escorted in and quickly noticed that this was more than a speakeasy-it was a full restaurant. We stopped in for drinks, but it was nice to have tapas. I got the popcorn with the Tequilla lime butter, which was the perfect balance of salt. I had a mezcal drink which was perfect! I'm such a fan of mezcal and am excited when I see it on the menu. Our waitress was a delight-super attentive and also a bartender so she was able to answer all of our drink questions. It was very spacious with outdoor seating. Definitely a 10/10 experience. I would definitely go again!

He asked for the password and we, unprepared, had to tell him a joke or an interesting fact. Luckily, my partner had one on hand. The atmosphere was lovely, very reminiscent of a 1920s speakeasy, or at least what you'd imagine it to be like. Our server came by within a few minutes of us being seated. She lacked enthusiasm, unlike the host, unfortunately. Her service turned out to be lackluster as well. We ordered the chicken pot pie and the filet mignon with asparagus. For drinks, the Grape Gatsby and Maine root beer. The food, like our server, lacked appeal. The saving grace was the host and the atmosphere. The view was lovely and the intimacy of the setting was a welcome experience. For dessert we ordered the bread pudding, and it was tasty, though nothing special. The burned odor that we smelled prior to its arrival turned out to be the bread. I can recommend Grandstaff and Stein as an experience, but you should not expect much in the way of culinary delights or exemplary service. We probably won't be back, but if you've never been, it's worth trying at least once.

The grilled chicken was juicy, the toppings were fresh, and the pickled onions added the perfect tangy bite. Every bite was delicious. We also tried the steak and fries, and the steak was cooked perfectly. It was a generous portion, tender, and topped with a flavorful chimichurri-style sauce. The fries were crispy and the perfect side. To top it all off, I had one of their frozen drinks, and it was so refreshing--the perfect pairing with the meal. If you're looking for a casual spot with great food, generous portions, and a fun tropical atmosphere, this place is definitely worth checking out. I'll definitely be back.

The staff were polite, but we had to ask several times to get items we were missing or things we wanted extras of. They checked in on us a fair number of times, but they still forgot to return to give us what we had asked for. By the time we were ready to leave, we still haven't gotten our dressings or our condiments. I also had asked for my burger to be well done, but I got a burger with quite a bit of pink in it. I didn't want to ask for it to be placed back on the grill because I didn't really want to wait longer for my food. Although I wanted my burger to be well done and I didn't get it that way, it was still pretty good. The fries though, I think was the best part of it. The fries were perfectly seasoned and crunchy! I also ordered a coke. Just a heads up, they don't do free refills on the sodas, so each cup is $4. My party also ordered salmon l'orange and a romano salad with salmon. My friends really enjoyed their main dishes, but we did ask for extra dressing. The restaurant is decorated in a boho-style vibe, and it was cute. We found the lighting on the side dining area to be a little bit too dim once the sun went down, but I do think it would've been perfect for a date night vibe. Overall, we had an okay experience.
