This was my first experience paying out of pocket for a courier rather than using my company to cover the cost. And in doing research, I found the average cost for same day courier on or before 7PM to send a lovely beer gift basket, from Van Nuys to Santa Monica, would be roughly $80-$100. Uh, no thanks. But after reading the reviews for Gofer It and looking up an instant quote on their website, I decided to give it to "go for it." Gofer It sent confirmation emails for everything from order processing to driver pickup to delivery confirmation. Gofer it is not an ordinary delivery site! With Noah behind it -it's an extraordinary site!!! I've used gofer.it prior for a surprise occasion and was extremely thrilled, but this time I had an urgent and tragic dilemma! I called Noah desperate for help to deliver an adjustable hospital bed for my brother who fell from an 18' ladder and broker two spinal vertebra plus his ankle! Like so many self-employed contractors, he did not have health insurance and did not have coverage for rehab or discharge equipment, which are often supplied and delivered. To make matters worse my family was attending our niece's graduation in St. Louis and my brother had no one around to help and I was at a loss. I emailed Noah and explained my situation and he made it happen. Now this was probably 9pm in the evening and we needed the hospital bed asap because he was being discharged, and Noah got on it and made it happen... what dedication! I could not be happier with the service I received from Gofer It! I've been working with a company in Tarzana, CA to lease some IT equipment. We were on a very tight schedule and our vendor required that we send hard copies of our signed contract prior to receiving the equipment. I called Gofer It at 8:45am. I almost lost my job, I am not in town and I need to handle the shipment. I ordered their 6hour service and its written taken and done. I chill a little bit and very happy. I contacted the recipient, she said "its not here" I almost fainted right away. And I get back to the sender, thank God they haven't pick the package, so at least it didn't went missing. I specifically wrote a note asking them to call both sender and recipient, but they did not. I tried to cal them but they didn't pick up. I realized on a Wednesday evening that I would need some sort of magical way to transport a document from Santa Monica to Riverside on a Friday. Since I live 350 miles away in San Jose, I was not sure how I would accomplish this. The person who needed to receive and sign the document planned to be 'out' on Thursday evening when it was delivered (late by USPS) and so couldn't be asked to mail or FedEx the last form required for my Ph.D. I decided to rely on Gofer It! when my quote request was replied to immediately and personally. I swallowed hard when I saw the price (twice as a much as FedEx first delivery), but I realized that Noah would make sure that my form got delivered and that I would actually receive my Ph.D. on time. Noah was wonderfully personable and very concerned about making sure that everything went smoothly. He was even patient with me while I tried to figure out whether my document would actually get delivered to Santa Monica by the postal service. He even spoke with my contact in Santa Monica and talked her into an earlier pickup. Once I committed, I got text updates along the way which was very comforting. The only bit of advice I would give Noah is that as nice as text updates are, they can give your customer unreasonable expectations if your driver hits traffic, takes a break, etc. This happened when I realized that the form had been in transit for longer than was necessary. Was the driver lost? I don't think I would have thought about this except that I was getting such immediate updates. I am not sure if the driver got confused; it doesn't really matter. I was just being paranoid. It might have been better if I was not aware of the times so that I didn't worry. This could also be unique to my situation since my document was going much farther away than most. In the end, my form was hand-delivered. I trusted Noah to make sure the job got done and it did. I was happy that I chose to use a courier rather than FedEx because, especially with the academic bureaucracy involved, I worried about FedEx or the Post Office tossing the form to the wrong department, etc. I think their rates are very reasonable. If I still lived in LA, I would start using them for other things as well. For me, the key was that Noah was clearly someone who could be relied upon. That is important when you are trusting someone with an important item. I am a pretty thrifty person, but without Noah's assistance, I wouldn't have been able to file my dissertation on time.
