I have a 2000 Ford Excursion that has been lifted with 35" tires for 26 years. Over the years, the steering has become very loose from the larger tires. I have taken it to Ford dealerships, tires shops, and a mechanic. No one has been able to "tighten" the steering like Going Straight Wheel Alignment did. called and was told it would be 120$ for an alignment. I had just put brand new tires on my car and the tire place said my old front tires were slightly worn on the inside wall and recommended a alignment. Came to this shop as they had done my daughters car years prior. It took them 13 minutes to figure out that my front end cannot be adjusted, so instead they increased the tire air pressure and changed the toe? They told me to come back in 2000 miles, for what?? Is my car aligned, they didnt tell me. They ended up charging me 80$ to put air in my tires I think. Feel like I need to take it to another shop as I dont feel good about this experience. read more

I brought in my vehicle for an alignment for my very crooked steering wheel and veering car and left with a new tire rod and straight driving car. Long story short, I went to a shop that quoted me a large amount for an issue I was unsure I had. After having my car looked at by Jasiel (owner of Gresham Automotive Service) he referred me to Goin' Straight. I went there in the morning before work, (que violin) ran them the story of being an overworked single mom on a budget and the dilemma of the car issue. Jeff and Kim were soooo accommodating! They were able to work around my busy schedule look at my car diagnosis and fix my non-issue! There was no huge fix needed but an alignment that they were able to provide at a reasonable price in fact cheaper than other shops quoted my around the area. Tried for 3 weeks to find a place to service our 1992 Fleetwood Tioga Motorhome & finally found a place but when we got there for our appointment they said we were too big for now. Luckily I had called Wayne's about a propane issue the day before & the gal told me to come right in. Then they recommended this place. Goin' Straight honestly made me a little nervous by the name because I'm married to a woman. I was hoping the owner was just punny ! They seem to be just that. If they took issue with me & my wife I couldn't tell. Very kind & friendly & got me in & ready for my trip the next day. Goin' Straight was my 3rd shop and my new shop. I was helped immediately and even taken into the shop while they checked out my truck. Shop 2 told me I needed a $1700 rack & pinion. It needed a new zip tie. The first shop told me I needed rear brakes and rotors and tie rod ends, after doing front brakes and rotors. Goin' straight replaced one tie rod end and checked my brakes, they are fine. The people at GS have integrity and are damn good at fixing your ride. I cannot endorse or thank them enough. Awful service. We dropped our truck off and the office staff seemed like she was altered or extremely disorganized. We called them to see if our truck was done and was told that it was but when we arrived, it hadn't moved and they didn't actually work in the truck. The office staff ran around unaware of what happened with the vehicle. We decided it was probably best to take it somewhere else because this place seemed Like it was run by some very altered people. Probably the best mechanic experience I've had. Above and beyond, the owner stops and has a conversation with you and is very experienced. Very friendly and informative, allowed me to get under the car and explained what the issue with my alignment was and what they were going to do to fix it. They all worked quickly and priced fairly. Idk how this place only has one other review. Any questions you have about anything car related they can answer, they're all car enthusiasts. Went in 2017, was told I need a strut bushing. I paid a mechanic to do it, $70. The van was practically diving off the road. I went back. They charged me $35 to adjust the steering gears. The van tracked slightly sideways down the road and the steering wheel wasn't straight. I didn't get back for almost a year, as I moved. I went in expecting a free adjustment for the steering wheel. They said the strut bushing was wrong, installed backwards, and my bearings were loose, and I needed a ball joint. I paid $100 to have the strut bushing reversed, and another $275 for the ball joint and another alignment. I went on a trip, there was a lot of bearing sounds, I brought it back. They said both my front bearings were fried. I suggested it was their adjustment that had done it. Next thing I know, the front office woman had gone and said something to John, the owner, and he was standing before me so angry he was literally twitching. My wife had overheard John when he was told I was talking about their adjustment causing the bearings to burn up (and by the way there was wear on the spindle from the fried bearings digging a groove during my trip). She didn't hear the office lady, but she heard John saying he would have my van dragged out of his shop by a tow truck. She said he want from 0 to 10 in anger in a moment. So, I paid for bearings and labor and left. That was a bad experience. read more

I took a 2000 F-150 pickup into have them diagnose my front tires wearing on the inside. While the Ford dealership had tried twice and been unsuccessful, this place got it figured out within about two hours that the ball joints were bad. Unfortunately, I will have to do the repairs myself (my boss doesn't want to spend a bunch of money on our beater shop truck), I will be returning for a full alignment after I am finished. Very honest and knowledgeable. Took my fathers 94 explorer in and had alignment done. Then my dad took it back and got a full work up done because he was so impressed by an honest mechanic. Took my 2005 grand caravan in because the power steering was making horrible noise. They did a quick fix, showed me what needed to be done for long term fix. Didnt charge me a thing! So im still really impressed. Then i take in a 2002 f150 i found at a used car lot that i really liked. Wanted to get a pre purchase inspection. Got me right in and said it was a good rig. But it had about $1500 in work that it would need sooner rather than later. Guess what. Didnt charge me a thing! "Youll be back." is what they said when i tried to pay something. During the 2 day snow/ice storm that hit PDX this month, I hit a curb pretty hard. My Lexus RX350 was no longer driving straight. Goin Straight was able to assess the damage and subsequently find a part at a reasonable price, and complete the work within 2 days. My entire experience with Goin' Straight Wheel Alignment was amazing. The friendly staff made the entire experience pleasant and the turnaround was quick. Overall cost was low and there was no surprises with what I was originally quoted! My 2017 Camaro SS had a bent rear knuckle spindle and they were able to diagnose the problem, order the part, and provide me a quote all in the same day in little to no time. They even worked through the Holliday to ensure I was taken care of as soon as possible! The mechanics did amazing work, the quote I received on day 1 was what I paid, they made sure to set proper expectations and follow through. The day they said I'd get the vehicle I did. Most importantly, I never felt pressured or taken advantage of as you might at other places. The mechanics not only showed me what was wrong, they called around to find the most affordable replacement with the quickest delivery time. Their recommendations made sense. I never felt that they were trying to add additional unnecessary repairs, the mechanic was also completely okay with providing me with the damaged parts when I asked! When I went to pick up my car they let me test drive it and make sure it handled well before finalizing the payment. I couldn't believe how trusting and friendly the staff is. There was some stains left on the ceiling liner of my car, which stood out immediately but I was able to get those out for the most part. I was never able to get my restored 1979 Ford truck's front end aligned correctly at other shops because of its unique "twin I-beam" suspension. My truck had positive camber that caused the front tires to wear and drive on the outside shoulders. This place knows how to fix just about anything on wheels. They put my truck on a frame rack and bent the I-beams to bring the camber to neutral. Now my truck doesn't roll the tires under the wheels when I make a sharp turn. It drives better on the highway too. It's quite a noticeable improvement. Couldn't get that at other shops I tried over the years. They do a free 3,000 mile follow up inspection to make sure everything is all right with their work. I will never go anywhere else for front end work on any of my cars. read more

It has been a while since I have reviewed Goin' straight, and have continued to take my cars there over the last two years or so since I wrote my last review. I have continued to get wonderful service and have been really happy with the service I have gotten there with my two cars - 2005 Acura TL and Toyota Avalon 2008. Any time another shop has told me I need a bunch of work done, I head to Goin' Straight to see what John the owner thinks about it. He saves me a lot of money by coming up with cheaper alternatives, and telling me whether I really need the work done now recommended by the Acura dealer or Toyota dealer where I occasional take my cars for recommended services. To quote an old cliche John is as honest as the day is long, and doesn't do anything that is unnecessary. And he often checks things out for free. If you think you have any problem with the basic working of your car that support your car going down the road, like alignment, steering, brakes, ball joints, shocks, struts, frame, I definitely recommend you give John and Goin' Straight a call. After all the great reviews of this place I had high hopes. This is how it went......... So here's how this played out. Went in for an estimate for a frame fix on my sons truck. They looked at it and JJ said she would email a "written" estimate so I gave her my email address. Two days later after not getting the estimate, I called. She said, " I'm sorry sweety, the estimate is $1250. Do you want me to email this to you? I said, yes please. She's like, "what's your email address"? So I gave it to her again. After two more days, I called again. Got voicemail, relayed my message about "written" estimate, which she was supposed to have emailed me 4 days ago. Oh I'm sorry, we're sooooo busy, busier than anyone on the planet. Ok, I embellished a bit. Not long after I got a text. "Hey, its jj I missed your call" Me: JJ who? JJ: Oops, sorry. jj from going straight. Just missed your call Me: So you gonna email that estimate to me eventually? JJ: Remind me ??? Me: I've reminded you for a week now JJ: OK then, remind me who this is. Because I do not save every # to a customer vehicle Me: John Latter. 2000 Ford Ranger JJ: We talked last week, gave you a price. Did you want something in writing? Me: Yes please. You already said u had something written up and were going to email it to me JJ: I do have it written up. Just have not had the time to email it to you. I'm a very, very, very very, busy shop. I get all the total jobs that nobody wants to do...so if I have not got back to you, it's cause I'm busy. If I'm not quick enough for you, you can go somewhere else. They explained everything that was being done to my truck and didn't push services I didn't need. This is one of the best experiences I've had with mechanics. JJ's always there with her excellent customer service that always exceeds my customer service expectations. The mechanics there are always fast and efficient. You get great quality work from them. I have a mechanic as a father and didn't get any bs from them. They respected the fact he worked on my car and I appreciated the fact they told me to get a Camber kit and told me to have my dad do it. Can't say I've come across many mechanics that respected me wanting to have my father do most of my mechanic work. Had a hybrid Camry that needed an alignment, JJ recommended the Camber kit after my first alignment, knew my dad could do it and told me to come back for my second alignment after dad put the Camber kit on. Which is awesome! Another thing that's awesome is they're prices, they are very reasonable and affordable!!!
