A few months in and we were almost going to give up as he was not making progress. However, after a quick chat with the Sensei, he made some adjustments that may seem little to him, but impacted our toddler and how we viewed each class. I have also seen other parents bring up concerns or feedback to the Senseis and instructors and noticed they do their very best to accommodate and/or adjust based on it. I also love the flexibility of the schedule. Some weeks we are busier than others but it is very nice that there's no need to call in or commit to specific days of the week. The times are perfect as well, especially for parents who might live further and don't get off work until 5pm. Each Sensei and instructor has been very patient, creative, and still fun with my toddler and other kids in the class. Every kid is so different yet they're able to manage the class with various personalities and energy levels. I also love that they do not exclude anyone! It is a safe space for any kid, young adult, or adult to build confidence and enjoy something where they are their own person. When my son started out here, he struggled with attention and discipline. I was struggling to find him something that would build his confidence in himself. Karate became the answer and now he is so much more disciplined, sets goals for himself. More importantly, he believes in himself and what he wants to achieve. Karate plays a role in that as he has to work hard to get to each new belt. The Sensei's here really enjoy teaching karate, are patient, firm but kind. It's also a great community and they hold tournaments. I'm grateful for this dojo and the impact it's had on my son and the local community in building up both boys and girls in developing their skill in karate and believing in themselves.

We started our son at MAI as a little dragon over 5 years ago, and in that time he earned his Shodan/1st degree black belt (an exciting milestone in his life-long Karate journey). We are so pleased to see all of the positive growth that karate at MAI has given him. Through his karate journey he has learned self-defence and the importance of being physically active. He has developed confidence, discipline, and respect for himself and others. The MAI Senseis/instructors are a great team. They all have a passion for karate that really comes through as they teach. I always appreciate that they want all the kids/students to succeed and at the same time hold them accountable. The instruction/material taught at MAI is rooted in traditional Okinawan Karate. There is an emphasis on practical/real life use, and the karate techniques taught are pressure tested through controlled sparring. After watching our son train here for 4 years, I was finally motivated to start training in the adult class. The instructors, senseis, and fellow students have all been very welcoming and encouraging. It has been rewarding to see the changes in myself, and I always look forward to class days. The dojo ownership changed hands last year. It has been exciting to see the improvements and energy Sensei Butler, Sensei Quan, and Christina have made as they continue the MAI legacy.

Amazing classes! So much fun!…read more Last time, I did an archery class with Master Jennifer. That was a good experience! Tonight, I did an archery class with Master Clawson. It was great! Master Clawson is so knowledgeable about the history of archery and anything related to martial arts. He is very open and gives direct feedback on form. His feedback is very helpful. He took extra time with the beginners to provide additional support. I enjoyed seeing the advanced members shoot their bows too. Getting to see that was very inspiring. I love that the environment is filled with respect and discipline. Such a great learning environment. Everyone is so kind and welcoming. If you are on the fence about taking a class here, just go for it! You won't regret it. I had a ton of fun shooting and I think I got a tiiiiiny bit better from the first class- yay! lol

I even stuck around for another hour until 10 AM in an attempt to take the class at 10 AM, but they were still closed. I emailed the studio and they got back to me saying the whole studio is closed today and all the classes are canceled due to an event outside the studio. They should definitely be updating that on their website and/or Instagram! I even checked both before driving there this morning.

You can always tell he loves what he teaches. The students pay a fixed fee. The good thing is they can come as many times during the week as they want to. Sensei Doan explains how each body shift, arm and leg movement, block, strike, kick in each kata can be used in practical ways. He analyzes kata and extracts fighting techniques from the movements of a "form" (kata). My kids get excited to see how they can apply the techniques they learn in the Katas. They look forward to attend these special sessions of the week. One thing I like about this Dojo is all students come here to learn. Sensei Doan always emphasizes how important it is for each student to concentrate on the lessons and improve his or her techniques to the next level. He teaches his students to respect themselves to earn the respect from others. As they achieve each level of the belt rank , they improve not only their Karate techniques but also develop their personal characters accordingly. We believe this dojo is one of the top notch Karate dojos in this local area.
