White wine + interior. Date had a gin & tonic

I'm normally not into Italian restaurants, but Gola Osteria blew me out of the water. WOW. I had a date with someone who was very supportive of my Yelp review ambitions and was enthusiastic about having dinner here. We ended up having 3 courses + drinks and loved EVERYTHING. There's something about the way the chefs pair the ingredients in the dishes. Like we had the arancini for an appetizer and the way they seasoned the food and used ricotta and marinara to balance the cheesy rice balls was well executed. Prices are higher at this spot, but the ambiance and the portion sizes of the food justify it. Photo doesn't do the plating justice because it's a pic of my leftovers lol.

Sam! What a chef. Met him on the way out and it was an honor. Eating my leftovers now and you are soo talented. Unique dishes. We loved our meals. Split the arugula salad with mushrooms and I loved my shrimp dish. Pictures attached. Like other reviews have said this restaurant is hidden in a parking lot and you have to buzz to get in and it's in a residential building but the waiter told us that you can get in another way. Very unique wine menu too. Loved our wine overall a great experience. Wish I could bring Sam back to CT to a restaurant here. Soooo amazing!!!!

After reading great reviews, I was disappointed with my dining experience at Gola Osteria. We were seated at a table by the bar and it was so dark you could barely read the menu. Our waiter did not come over to our table for at least 15 minutes. The food was just okay. The Grilled Octopus was a generous portion of octopus, but half of the portion was undercooked and half of the portion was overcooked. The fennel salad that came with the Grilled Octopus was different and flavorful. The Black Spaghetti was okay -- the pasta was not cooked enough, but there was a decent amount of large shrimp which were good. The Linguine alle Vongole was swimming in butter. The Aperol Spritz was very good.

Very romantic spot. Great service. However, it is a very hidden location. It's by the fountain in the Collegetown Terrace buildings, you have to really enter inside the building and walk through a hallway. There's a paper-sized sign on the front of the door of the building indicating Gola Osteria is inside. Although it is a bit of a funky and hidden location, the food and vibes was certainly a great experience. I came here on Valentine's Day with my boyfriend (definitely book at least a month ahead of time to secure the time and day you want). We got an octopus dish as an appetizer and it blew my mind. Citrusy, savory, texture, all of it was there. Then, we got our main dishes. I got squid ink pasta with meat - it's a little spicy with very flavorful meat. It tastes almost like a little Asian fusion. My boyfriend got a cacio y pepe which is also pretty good but definitely not as flavorful. We were too full to get dessert, otherwise I would have 100% ordered the tiramisu. The service was very attentive, friendly, and full of smiles. I enjoyed my experience, and it is a really special place to go to. Fun fact: they make their pasta in-house, which is a really cool thing to boast about but they don't really highlight that much for their restaurant surprisingly.

Great Italian restaurant near Collegetown - would highly recommend the octopus appetizer and any of the pasta dishes! A great spot for more intimate gatherings or celebrations.

I saw a variety in terms of dress code so if there is one then I doubt it's enforced. Mostly, everyone seemed to be in casual clothing.

The place was totally empty, which is to expected at that time. Bar Argos is definitely a vibe. Think: antique chic with a touch of eccentric elegance. Ornate chairs, old-school lamps, and fancy mismatched furniture are scattered throughout, making you feel like you've wandered into a vintage movie set where cocktails play a leading role. There are multiple rooms, including one with a long table and huge windows that let the light spill in dramatically. I was lowkey stunned by how pretty it all was. Girlfriend and I shared the Clarified Lassi ($13), which is under the "Delightfully Unusual" section of their cocktail spectrum - right in between "Colloquial" and "What?!" It was fruity, creamy, and weird in a cool, sophisticated way. My Hotelie friend later explained in the car (upon mention of the drink) that clarified cocktails use a process where milk is added to a mixed drink and then curdled on purpose. The curds trap impurities, and when you strain them out, you're left with a crystal-clear drink that still has the creamy mouthfeel. Definitely checks out with the Clarified Lassi that we drank... Overall, the experience felt like stepping into a fancy secret. 10/10 would come back, undoubtedly!!

What a s*^%%# little bar…read more I came here at the recommendation of a local, but these folks are running game on drunk kids late at night. I ordered a double tanqueray and tonic and watched the guy pour the drink. Poorly. (Pun intended) He put the tonic gun on full blast and dribbled tonic into the glass. The bottle stopper was closed, so he had to finger it open as he continued to blast tonic into the glass. I could tell the drink was mostly tonic and said, "Hey friend, that's not a double!" He looked offended and swore it was because they don't use anything to measure their tonic, they just rely on the bottle dribbling out the so-called proper amount. I should have walked away before he sat it in front of me. I took one sip and surprise-surprise, it's basically just tonic water with a touch of a tanqueray. This was my first drink of the night, and I know it's wrong, but neither the guy nor the girl behind the bar were interested in making it properly. Pour out two shots. It's not that hard. But if you're purposefully pouring short booze to drunk people knowing you'll get away with it, it IS too hard. Don't come here. I know at least one local likes it, but nobody likes being charged double for a single anything. Or maybe the play here is to just order stuff in bottles. That way they can't cheat you out of liquor I paid $14 for a glass of tonic and MAYBE a shot of tanqueray. MAYBE. I feel like I paid $14 for the privilege of writing a crappy review. I absolutely got my money's worth.

I will NEVER EVER go here again AND I will advise everyone (I get asked a lot about good spots to hit, and where to avoid) to stay away, and will explain that the owners are terrible and don't care about their staff. Wow, they really shot themselves in the foot. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! If you're in this area and are looking for a drink at a local place I will recommend going 1/2 a block away to Pete's. Do not spend your money here; they embody everything Ithaca isn't---selfish, unconcerned w the community and pretty much all around horrible business owners!!! From the moment I walked in, I was ignored by the bartender, Pearl, while others around me were being served. When I politely asked if I could order a drink, I was finally acknowledged, but when I requested a specific drink, rather than simply saying they didn't have it, the bartender rudely cursed at me, saying, "Why the f** would I make a drink like that? Order something off the menu."* Shocked by such an unprofessional response, I remained calm and respectful, yet the situation escalated further. The bartender threatened to call the police on me for no reason--simply because I requested a drink. Then, without cause, the bouncer Eric aggressively grabbed me, thrashing me around and refusing to let go, even though I repeatedly and calmly told him to release me. Despite being completely non-confrontational and not being violent back, he continued to manhandle me in a way that was completely unnecessary and unacceptable. He was so aggressive that he broke one of my nails and injured my wrist. It was obvious that I was being targeted and mistreated because I am a Hispanic woman--if I had been a man or accompanied by one, I highly doubt I would have been treated this way. After filing a police report, I was informed by law enforcement that this establishment already has a bad reputation for being discriminatory. This speaks volumes about how they operate and how little they care about treating people with basic dignity and respect. This was an obvious case of discrimination and assault, and I will be pursuing legal action. I strongly urge anyone--especially women and minorities--to avoid this place at all costs. No one deserves to be treated this way.
