This is a gem in the desert. Their food was delicious, and the service was above and beyond. I had the blue cheese stuffed burger and my husband had the shrimp. The burger was afraid hamburger, not a Patty and it was perfect. I asked for it to be medium-rare and that's how it was cooked. My husband loved the fantail shrimp. We've been coming here for 7ish years. Today we got home from work and couldn't handle cooking so the Cafe did it for us. The Chicken Taco Salad was packaged wonderfully to go, it tasted great, and it's just what we needed to end our work day. Four of us went to this establishment for a midday meal. Lucky we arrived just before 1:00 pm as three of us wanted lunch and they don't start serving lunch til 1:00 pm. They have a huge breakfast menu and apparently the massive pancake was delicious. My beef dip was good but not the best I ever had - when the server brought it, she said they were out of coleslaw so I requested a fruit plate. The other salads my friends ordered were good and massive. Doggie bags were required! I would like to come for breakfast as the menu looked great. I stopped in for dinner and ordered fish and chips. The service was great! I was really surprised by the portion and quality of the beer battered cod! It was amazing and cooked to perfection. I appreciated the fresh brewed black iced tea and the cole slaw. The french fries had a coating on them that apperantly makes them crisper that I found not to my liking and their tarter sauce was too strong and honestly was really kind of nasty. So if you want an amazing serving of beer battered cod, a great cole slaw and a refreshing iced tea this is worth the drive. PS Heinz Ketchup in the Heinz bottle didn't taste like Heinz. The two large portions of cod with the cloe slaw, a side of fries and an iced tea came to a just over $20. read more

5/1/25 First visit late lunch. Located in a very nice but underutilized strip mall at 6900 E Hwy 60. Parking 5/5 The Lot was nearly empty. We parked near the entrance of the Cafe. Atmosphere 5/5 The Cafe decor theme is Arizona Western. Wood and turquoise tone walls decorated with beautiful SW Art. The tables are nice and bring back the 50/60's cafe local businesses advertising on the table too protected by a clear cover. Pretty cool! The Bar is very nicely decorated and its lighting does a nice job of making it pop. Service 4/5 We were greeted immediately and seated anywhere we wanted. Special deal for only customers! We placed Iced Tea orders and perused the menu. I didn't see anything special to try and went with the Jalapeño burger and my wife being an Ignacio UTE will always try the Navajo Taco if on the menu. Between our Tea and Lunch orders there was lengthy periods where our greeter/sever disappeared in the kitchen. We enjoyed an Apache Junction Country Music station playing at a pleasant volume allowing us to have an enjoyable conversation. Food 2/5 Where to begin? Although our order came out comparatively soon (only customers) neither were very warm. My Burger came with cheddar cheese and jalapeños with lettuce, pickles and onion on the side. The burger was big and was cooked medium well vs my request of medium. The cheddar cheese was shredded as in Tacos not typical melted slices. My shredded cheddar was not melted. You can see some started to melt before they pulled it from the microwave. I'm not typically a complainer but it was obvious when I removed the bun to place my lettuce and pickles it wasn't melted allowing most of the Jalapeños to fall off. This was LAZY on the part of the Kitchen, lazy! The burger was just ok. Now the Navajo Taco. The fry-bread was humungous! The fillings of lettuce, seasoned ground beef, beans, black olives and guess what; shredded cheddar cheese oh my made the plate a 10 lb challenge. Unfortunately it too was warm at best and my wife pushed it aside. Final comments The restaurant has tremendous potential and it appears the owner who is retiring hasn't kept his hand on the kitchen for the food to be served like it was. Another employee arrived well into our meal and asked the gentleman who was serving us was it busy today and he said not really. Tyna, our server, was an absolute delight. She was not only on top of it, she was hilarious. The pancake is so big it covers the massive plate it's served on, and adding bananas made it perfect. The hash browns were light and crispy, the sausage gravy is spot on, and my over easy eggs were exactly how I wanted them. Our friend loved his chicken fried chicken and said it really hit the spot. They have great diner coffee. If we're ever out this was again, I'll make sure we come back! read more

Stopped here after a hike for a late breakfast. Food was excellent, service was fantastic and we left with to go boxes. We got the sausage burrito, all meat burrito and classic eggs Benedict. This is a nice little cafe. Walking in we had to wait several minutes before anyone noticed we walked in. There is a full bar if you'd like to indulge in an adult beverage. Menu has a nice variety of options Thursday Special was Prime Rib my son enjoyed his with a baked potato, salad and some garlic toast. I ordered cat fish fillet (pictured) with cornmeal it was very flaky and the cornmeal coating was just enough, not too much. Ever since Red Sage Restaurant went out of business near the economy crash in 2008, I've been at a loss for amazing biscuits and gravy. Many places have great gravy, but don't make their biscuits or great homemade biscuits with okay gravy. I stopped by this location a few times, and chatted with a waitress I recognized that used to work at Red Sage. She said that the biscuits and gravy was the same recipe, and I cautiously ordered hoping it truly was as I've spent years on the quest for good biscuits and gravy! I am happy to report... this is the same recipe and my all time favorite biscuits and gravy! I don't understand how this place has an overall rating of 4 stars. The staff is underwhelming in friendliness. The food is greasy, and over-priced. We have been here twice now, and definitely our last time. As soon as we came in this time, my 9 year old started reminding me how much we all hated our food the last time we were there. Oh, and "I" was going to split my meal with my daughter, and just asked for an extra plate... like I do at almost every restaurant her and I go to, and have with older kids, when they couldn't finish an entire meal either -- she says, "$2 up charge for splitting". I was caught off guard and didn't know what to say. I didn't want to start composing, but I was annoyed. The food already isn't worth the price I was about to pay. I'll stop... we won't be back. Our waitress had the tables all ready for our large group and that scored high with me. She gave us a few minutes to look over our menus and got drink orders taken and filled. I've had it. Since the restaurant moved from it previously location a few years back. We don't usually see any family members running the place anymore. Maybe we're coming in at the wrong times and maybe the one waitress we always get is family. She has always been mediocre but to be seated and have to wait fifteen minutes for us to leave without anyone even taking our drink order is the end for me considering it wasn't that busy. Food is usually pretty good but didn't get to try it. As we walked out the waitress was standing at a table having a leisurely conversation with I guess some regulars. Tucked away in a side area east of Mesa, on a road I've only known as the way to get to the Renaissance Faire is this local restaurant. We arrived about 9:30AM on a Saturday and were seated immediately. Restaurant was clean, decorated with local photographs and misc art. Our table had military logo decor and (I think) local advertisement and it wobbled a bit. Service was above average. Restaurant was not busy when we got there but it picked up and slowed down again. Our waiter was attentive but not intrusive. Water and coffee remained full and our order was exactly as requested. Food was hot and arrived quickly. The chicken fried chicken was delicious. Bigger than expected so I had to take half of it home. Originally we came for the biscuits because one of my girlfriends said they were huge and fluffy. The biscuits were tasty, but only half the size she had made them out to be. Overall, great tasting food, above average service, comfortable place to grab breakfast. Another great visit albeit it was just for a to-go order this time. As full time residents we patronize the cafe often, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I became a bit apprehensive due to what appears to be a new management process. It's a weird change for the venue. In our opinion, the Cafe is a five star place.
