A good friend of mine recommended Dr. Layus and although it's a bit more of a drive for me, I only usually visit the dentist twice a year so no biggie. Let me just say, I am so very very glad I switched! Dr. Layus is such a nice guy, and he made me feel very comfortable. I felt like he was honest and didn't try to upsell me the whole time (one of the reasons I left my previous dentist). He offers Invisalign, which I am very excited about because I've been considering doing it for a couple years now. My old dentist did not do Invisalign, so that's a huge plus. I am returning in a couple weeks to do a scan for Invisalign and will hopefully be able to get started soon after! The hygienist, Tatiana, was great and very knowledgeable about airway dentistry, which was another huge plus as I have recently been learning quite a bit about airway health, and she was able to give me some really wonderful insight. The woman at the front desk, Anayi (sorry if I got the spelling wrong) was really sweet and easy to work with. Overall I loved my experience here. My one and ONLY very small complaint is just that the waiting room is really small. But it's an older building, and they have made it look really nice and updated inside. The bathroom was clean (really important to me), and the whole office was decorated cute with beach and surf photos. I forgot to grab photos at my first visit, but I will be going back in a couple weeks to do my Invisalign scan and will update my review with photos then!

Not only was Cecilia incredibly unprofessional and rude when I was a client here, advocating for myself; Dr. Layus was pushing his political rhetoric my entire 2 appts. On top of them botching my dental work that had to be fixed because they botched it the first time, and also they never completed a crown install because Cecilia didn't like that I stick up for myself or won't let them be disrespectful to their clientele, so they refused to work on me any further. Which has led me to THOUSANDS of corrective dental work and oral surgery next week. AVOID THIS DENTIST OFFICE. Entire lack of professionalism and genuine care across the board.

I moved to the Santa Barbara area and asked my new P.A. for a recommendation as I did not know any dentists in the area. It was a strange experience to be on the other side of the chair with someone new as I was used to having dentists that I knew personally treat me. I am very impressed with Dr. Scartello and his office. The up to date technologies, efficient spotless office, very friendly staff, and total comfort was over the top. My choice in treatment options were given and explicitly communicated. The office was designed for patient comfort and not flashy with unnecessary attempts to impress, similar to how I also built my own office. I appreciate those all the details. I learned things that I would do in my practice if I was still working, such as the R.D.A. massaging tight jaw muscles in a free moment. Highest recommendation!

I ended up postponing the major work for a variety of reasons. I then called the office in November regarding the insurance plans they accepted as I was going through open enrollment options with my retirement plan. I left a message. No one called me back. I then sent an email through their website, explaining that I had contacted them regarding insurance but they never returned my call and now my open enrollment had closed . I expressed concern with their lack of follow-up. I never received a response to the email either. While Dr. Kim may be a proficient dentist, the office response to inquiries is poor. There are many highly recommended dentists in the Santa Barbara area...thankfully.

I am visiting in town and couldn't find any appointments for 2 more days! My friend had a really, really old coupon sitting in a drawer and they honored it! I drove in and Dr. McAninch saw me right away! Angela, the dental assistant was incredibly gentle and sweet and talked me through the entire appointment, even holding my hand at one point. I had to have an extraction and the tooth was infected! Dr. McAninch made sure I was numbed up and comfortable as much as possible.
