This place has an amazing selection of jewelry procured from many different places. The problem arises when you try to speak with anyone there because there is an air of something that just makes you feel less than. Instead of knowledgeable people helping you, they only have room for one or two people at the front counter and they don't seem to know where the items come from. My wife presented me with a pendant that she was told to be Tibetan turquoise. However, after having other experts look at it, we couldn't confirm or deny whether or not it was actually dyed, so we had to return it. We switched it out for a different piece, but the person helping us at the counter, had no idea where it was from. She yelled across the counter to a guy in another part of the store asking where it was from, and without even coming over to look at it, he instantly said it was Tibetan turquoise! With that said, my trust in their pieces and quality are diminished. It's a very pretty place to stop and look at if you're a tourist and you can buy some nice crystals however I'm still concerned about this issue. The first picture is the original. I've spent over $600 here in the past two months and was denied a return. I came in yesterday 15 minutes before closing. I worked until 6:30 and this was the only time I had to come in. I wanted to exchange some rings I bought. Was not looking for a return $$ or anything like that. Upon entering a woman with a blonde shoulder length haircut abruptly told me I wouldn't have enough time to look around and that they were closing soon. I told them I would make due with the time I had. This was a stark contrast compared to the last time I came in where I was treated with kindness and patience. The woman with the shoulder height blonde hair told me that rings are final sale, something that was never told to me the first time I came in and spent over $300. I exchanged everything I had time for and was out of the door at 6:59. I was not able to complete the full exchange as my time was limited. I came back today hoping I could at least get honored the remainder of the rings I wanted to exchange. I was once again abruptly addressed by the same woman saying she honored my exchange yesterday and would not let me return the remaining 4 rings I wanted to swap out. Again I was not looking for anything but an exchange. I did not argue with her and I bought 3 new rings and was charged $180. Before I left I gave her 4 rings I bought there because at least someone could get good use out of them and wouldn't sit in my closet unused. I felt a complete lack of customer service and kindness, I am not leaving this review for the shop. The first woman I met was extremely kind and considerate, although I would've appreciated being told about the final sale agreement when purchasing from here, there seems to be some inconsistency. People make mistakes, it's ok. This review is for the blonde woman who completely turned me off of ever returning for more business. I will go elsewhere, even though I had full intentions of returning here as there are more pieces I would like to buy for the summer like necklaces/bracelets. I've worked in customer service for years and was always taught to honor someone's request until closing time, something which I understand is frustrating. Regardless they close at 7 and I feel I was treated inappropriately. If you don't want people coming in 15 minutes before closing, maybe you shouldn't be working in this industry. I was treated not like the high paying customer I was, but more like I came in with 2 minutes left and with the intention to make an unfair exchange. I still got out before closing yesterday and was kind and respectful and just wanted to exchange the rest of the rings I bought previously today. I would avoid this place if you ever want to get treated with respect and consideration, as this place is a complete toss up with a lack of transparency about "final sale". Seems like this woman really disliked me, which does not feel good as a customer. Regardless, I said thank you after spending nearly another $200 today after spending $90 yesterday, even with the exchanges. I'm not going to be a Karen, but I will definitely leave this review as a believe it is justified. Of course she was willing to take the rings I already bought so she can re-sell them. No hard feelings, I'm glad someone else can wear them which is why I left them with her but the way she handled me as a customer lacked integrity. She was willing to let me return yesterday when my time was limited but today I can't? I still bought those original rings without being told I couldn't return them. No one wants to feel like they are upsetting the person they are trying to spend their hard earned money with. I bought an expensive set piece a few years back. It was $125 dollars and $30 for the chain. They told me it was a nickel-iron meteorite. I did the streak test on it and turns out it's hematite which is worth way less and definitely didn't come from space for the past couple billion years. Definitely don't take their word for it when it comes to identification of minerals. I've been wearing this necklace for years and feel pretty stupid that they scammed me. read more

Never in my life have I been asked to check in my purse and never in my life would I shop at a business that would ask me to! I own a retail business and I would NEVER ask a woman to leave her purse with me or my employees! I can't even believe another local business would do this! I went here earlier today to shop for a birthday gift and was greeted at the front door with, "Can I check your bag?" I said, "I don't have a bag, do you mean my purse?" She said, "Yes." I asked if it was required and she gave me a snotty, "It is preferred," all while holding out a claim ticket for me to take. I said, "No, I will shop somewhere else." This place isn't what it used to be. I heard they changed owners. Not sure. I asked about the vibe at a local shop nearby and they also seemed well aware. There was a long-haired woman who seemed legitimately strung out that got in our personal space and seemed really creepy. Some (not all) of the other employees seemed kinda coked out... like they just hired people over 40 who still party hard. I used to like this shop as they have some great pieces but I didn't even want to ask them any questions because they just seemed really weird. I literally cannot stress enough how creepy the vibe was. Lastly, some people in the reviews mention it being appropriative. I'm white but I definitely feel like a lot of stuff in there doesn't belong there and either seems unethically sourced or...it's kinda like, WHO is some of this stuff for?... appropriative white hippies on drugs? Yeah basically. It's pretty blatant. And...this problem exists variably in a lot of these types of stores but Gold Door is extra gross about it. I don't know how they make enough $$ to pay four or five people to stand around being creepy. I understand if a shop ethically pays people in other countries for their wares but I got the feeling this staff wouldn't even know how to answer that question and again, some of the types of items... didn't seem like something you pay for to sell in the states. Idk. I left not wanting to give my money to people who were so off-putting and probably legit pretty racist, by the other comments here. I think it is probably an understatement to say that I love rocks. I really love rocks guys and this place is filled to the brim with them! One of the best selections I have seen in a while. They have a little bit of everything, specimens, jewlery, polished spheres, free forms, you name it. They even have a sales section, which of course I raided. The people who work there are super sweet and know their product. You can tell they like working there and are more than happy to help! I even spoke to the owners, so great. They even said they could mail me pieces if I contacted them. I love this since I live all the way in California. (I'm still thinking of that six point garnet ring, not going to lie.) I ended up buying quite a few things from here. A freeform chrysanthemum stone, a little phallic amethyst(my friend greatly enjoyed that), an aquamarine pendant, and my personal favorite, a gorgeous amber ring! I wear that one constantly. The kind of sales people that when you walk in with your shorts, hat and Led Zeplin t-shirt you get ignored for a 20 minutes before you finally get helped, but then you wish you didn't get any help at all because of the snooty customer service you received. Purchased a pair of large silver hoops along with some other items on 6/9. Wore them for a few hours while walking around the neighborhood, nothing extreme. While driving home, I realized one of the 4 hour old earrings had bent COMPLETELY in half. My partner unbent them just to get them out of my ears. The next morning I called, explained the situation, and someone told me that they sounded defective, and to bring them in with the receipt and they would help me exchange them for a better pair. I was told there were no refunds, which I was fine with, I just wanted a pair of earrings that wouldn't bend after a few hours of wearing them. After driving all the way back to Gold Door, I was immediately told that I could not get in store credit to exchange them, after pointing out their bend, the exact reason I wanted to exchange them!! She offered to help me with finding a "less delicate" pair. It is so incredibly disappointing to spend 30 dollars on a pair of earrings to have them break within a few hours, and to not be told anything about their "delicate" nature. The woman who turned down my exchange was the woman who had helped me the day before, so she knew it had been less than 24 hours of wear. I could have spent 5 hours taking it all in. What an amazing shop! They have beautiful jewelry including pieces designed by local artists. I also love that their tarot section had decks not usually featured in other shops I've been to. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I was looking for a pendant for a necklace and everyone who assisted me knew all about the various stones and were able to recommend styles and stones that were just my taste. I detest, hate, abhor pushy salespeople. The relaxed, easygoing atmosphere here was exactly what I needed. We bought my "just got engaged" ring here, and it was an AMAZING customer service experience. This isn't a high-end store, but it has a huge selection of quality used jewelry. The incense and glass trinkets almost turned me away, but then Amber took us under her wing. She pulled out hundreds of rings, told us about the meaning of the various stones, stayed late to help us find the perfect one. Bought a beautiful antique turquoise cuff made by Wylie White Cloud, circa 1940s. It was my fault for not inspecting it more closely, but I trusted the professionalism of the store to not sell me something broken. I walked across the street and sat down for lunch and showed it to a friend and noticed a crack in the cuff that would surely break in time. Upon returning to the store moments later, the red headed lady that has previously been mentioned in bad reviews, implied that I must have broken it in the minutes I'd owned it after it had survived 80 years of wear just fine. After a lot of back and forth, she offered to have it fixed AT MY EXPENSE of $40. (10% of the cost of the bracelet) Then she offered to split the repair cost. In the end, she agreed to pay the repair in full and the shipment to send it to my house, BUT ONLY after one of the other employees leaned on her to do so. The cuff arrived a few days later repaired.. BUT EXTREMELY STRETCHED OUT IN SIZE. It is now so large it fits my 200lb boyfriend and can be slide over my wrist width wise because it's so damn huge. NOW I have to go pay a jeweler to size it for me. I love the bracelet and Wylie White Cloud as an artist. But that red headed woman's business ethics are ABSOLUTE GARBAGE! read more
