We ate here the past eight years or so. It's ok. You get what you pay for and it's probably the cheapest Chinese around, BUT we ate there last week and felt funny. We weren't sure if it was that or the dessert we got somewhere else. We ate there last night and got BAD food poisoning. It's the only thing my whole family ate. I was up all night to everyone vomiting and pooping everywhere. My poor two year old daughter had it so bad it shut up her diaper into her hair. She's so sick and been in bed all day. I won't ever go back. Food isn't the same and clearly something is wrong with the food. It was so soooo bad. Golden crown is way better and never lets us down. This is my favorite place for a good deal! I mainly come for the affordable lunch special or mix and match combinations. They make the best crab puffs in town! They always have an all day .99¢ deal on Budweiser's or Bud Light's! It's a bonus that this restaurant is locally owned, so you are helping out the community by letting them feed you well. we had eaten at this place years ago when owned by different people and it was fabulous. decided to give it a try again with the current owners. while sitting there just after food was served a cockroach ran across the table right in front of us and up the wall. I couldn't tell you about the food as we left immediately. when paying I pointed out the roach climbing the wall right above our table and the lady seemed very unconcerned even though others in the dining area were sure to observe it. sorry but absolutely NOT going back!!! read more

DO NOT EAT HERE if you value health and wellness!!! They haven't had a passing inspection I'm sure since last May according to public records due to the fact that they have ROACHES in the dining area. I was APPALLED to discover one crawling up my table while I was dining out with a friend yesterday after consuming half the f****** meal!! I was so done but carried myself on out with class ans didn't make a scene. Will never trust to return as well as have already informed marion county's public health department.. sucks because the inside is pretty and clean and food/ service was good from waitress..what a great shame!!! For the price, it's just about the best Chinese food around. Our regular waitress is always super friendly. The hot and sour soup is great, along with the egg flower - totally worth kicking down a few bucks for, considering how inexpensive the menu is overall (Cheapskates moaning about $3.00 for soup should stick to the dollar menu at their local drive thru). read more

We went to Dinner tonight and the server was so sweet, cheerful, and a nice burst of energy. The owner has always been great every time we go in. We go in with our kids and it feels welcoming. The food portions are huge, great prices, and beer specials are great. Highly recommend this if you want a good Chinese food dish. They have my comfort food, Mapo Tofu . I get everything spicy and they always accomodate. I would always recommend them anyone looking for a good Chinese meal. read more

We've been here several times -- it's out of our way but has become our favorite Salem Chinese restaurant for both quality and price. They are always pleasant and service has been good. They do get busy sometimes but they work their tails off to keep up. The portions are generous -- and the ingredients appear to be better quality than in most similar restaurants. It was the husband's birthday so I decided to get him more Chinese food then he could possibly handle in one evening. For $40 I got: crab puffs; egg rolls; fried shrimp; sweet and sour chicken; diced almond chicken; beef and pea pods; house yakisoba; and, of course, fried rice. This is the third evening in a row that we will be having Chinese again. Although I detest most Chinese, I was pleasantly surprised to find yakisoba on their menu. That's not all that common and although they were overdone for my taste, the flavor was quite good. The best part about this place, aside from the super low prices, is the friendliness of the staff. I ordered to go and was offered water for my wait. They provided my whole huge order in a big box and even provided extra hot mustard and red sauce--and I didn't even ask for it. I LOOOOVE the hot mustard and red sauce. This place was able to (slightly) change my opinion of Chinese. I will return for a dine in experience and when I do I'm going to try those Singapore fried noodles. read more

Wow! They are located in a strip mall. Not much to discern since outside doesn't give an impression of restaurant. We could see in the windows and thought it was takeout only. When walked in we noticed the restaurant to the right. Food is very flavorful. I can't have MSG and it wasn't an issue - just make sure to tell them. We had sizzling rice soup - it was perfect, the broth is the perfect temperature in order for it to sizzle! Yummy, I just could stop eating it till I ladled the last drop into my cup. We also ordered Shanghai-style rice noodle. Just the perfect amount of curry. Rice noodle for us who need wheat-free. Last item was the golden dragon sizzling speciality which was very good - highly recommended. We will be back!! read more

It really pains me to write this review, because I have been a fan of Gold Dragon since I was in high school and it was Eng's. It never disappointed either for eating in or takeout, however the last few times I've been there it's been way worse that it ever used to be. We don't go here often because it's pretty far out south salem, and we don't live on that side of town, but my boyfriend and I used to like their food the best, so we'd go there every once in awhile. Friday when we went there we walked in, they were semi-busy and the waitress told us to just sit wherever we wanted. Waited a bit for water and menus, but no biggie. We ordered, and I asked for tea. Not something I normally would have noticed, but the last 2 times we had been before, we also didn't get any tea. When we got it, they served us vanilla oolong -- which I like, but not with dinner. The flavor was unexpected, and not what we had wanted. After we both ordered, neither of us were served soup either. Again, not a tragedy, but this happened the last time we had come here. I did see her bring out soup to other tables, but not all. I wasn't sure why we didn't get offered soup, because we always order the same thing and have gotten it before, so it seemed odd. When we finished, the server brought the check, and we asked for boxes. We waited for a while, and she took out some orders - again, no biggie - but then we saw her take boxes and checks to two other tables while we were still waiting, without any acknowledgement. Again, the food was good - large portions and super hot. Service is just inconsistent whether it will be great or not. Since it isn't close, it's extremely disappointing to come in on an "off day". read more

This place is great for getting a lot of food pretty cheap but the food isn't great quality. The sweet and sour chicken I had was tough and the food is always soggy. I like the lo mein but don't get it confused with chow mein. The people who work there aren't easy to talk to. Whenever you start to order they will walk away or start taking on the phone. I think the store could use a little bit of upgrades, it looks kind of run down. Over all it fast cheap and a lot of food that isn't horrible. read more

I have ordered Dragon Sizzling three times now, in person, on the phone, and online. I have Celiac disease so all three times I emphasized I need the gluten free version. All three times I got the sauce with wheat in it. Their gluten free options are so bland to begin with that I have to add my own sauces when I get it home, but they have three strikes. This place has really bad service. We waited 15 minutes for the drinks after we ordered it. We were one of 2 tables there. We also ordered our food and it came out in less than 5 minutes. You could tell it was old. Everything tasted boiled and lazily tossed on a plate. I would never go here again read more

My wife and I have been regular patrons for years. The fresh vegetables are not over-cooked in their dishes - and neither are the proteins. The Dragon and Phoenix dish has an excellent sauce. The Honey glazed walnut and shrimp dish is my wife's favorite. The pot sticker sauce is one of the best we've ever had. The lunch and dinner combination plates are excellent values. Their soups are all first-rate. All-in-all a really excellent value for lunch or dinner. Oh, and the staff are all very pleasant and helpful. read more

This place used to be decent, but the prices have gone up and the quality has gone down. I picked up an order of mushu veg. When I took the bag out of the car at home, a huge amount of liquid ran down the front of me, soaking my phone that was in my pocket, and splattering my shoes. It soaked the seat in my new car, destroyed my bag, and got all over the mail I had just picked up. I have no idea why there was so much liquid, but it took hours to clean up my car, garage, hallway, and kitchen. I may never get the smell out of my car. Then, to top it off, the mushu was too salty to eat and two items were missing from our order. When I called to complain, they said the mushu will be free next time. What kind of solution is that when I will never go back? When I asked to speak to a manager, I was told there wasn't one there and wouldn't be for several days at least. The last time I picked up an order here, I waited an extra 40 min. while they filled orders for delivery that came in while I was waiting, so the driver could deliver them all at once. Meanwhile, the first order he was delivering sat there getting cold for 20 minutes while he waited for the new order to be filled. Woman took our order, repeated it back to us, we asked about soup but they explained they don't give soup on to-go orders (but the price is still the same? Lame) She advised us it would be about 15 mins. We drove from N. Salem and arrived 20 mins before closing. When we walked in to grab our order she shrugged and claimed no one ever called. So I hit redial from my truck trying to locate our dinner.... She answered (I watched her through the window) and when I asked about our order she hung up on me. Twice. At least admit you don't want to make someone their food so we can find it somewhere that DOES want our money. Horrible service, no regard for the customer. The food I've tried (various combinations) has always been good, but sometimes a little bland. I'll have to try some other dishes to see if they have more flavorful options. Awesome for take out!! We've gotten it twice so far since we moved to the area and were impressed both times. We both get pick your own combos and also use the coupon off their website for a free item. The veggies are fresh and it's not too salty tasting :) portions are huge and we get like 3-4 meals from it. This is our go to Chinese take out place from now on! read more
