Stopped in for some peaches and plums. They have various selection of baskets priced according to size. There is also an option to buy "by the pound". We went inside and were hit with the scent of fresh baked peach pie. Of course we had to try some! Pie & cobbler is sold by the slice and by the pie. We had one slice of each both topped with fresh in-house made peach ice cream. They both exceptionally good, served warmed and paired wonderfully with the peach ice cream. You could tell the desserts were fresh made and not frozen or reheated. The only down side is there is no indoor or outdoor seating nor are there any restrooms. There are 2 benches outside the entrance where you can sit down to eat your pie. This is definitely a pop in & out kind of place, not a sit & stay place. It smells like heaven as you walk inside the fresh baked bread laced with aromas of cinnamon and peach are just incredible..there is no better smell than that. The peach cobbler is on the cakey side..prefer more peach less cake and more of a dumpling texture the ice cream a bit too sweet for my preferences ..prefer a creamy custard over sweet but was a nice tasty treat. read more

Farmstand peach ice cream has so much more potential than this. It was mostly vanilla ice cream with a few small peach chunks throughout. Not enough peaches to give the ice cream peach flavor, just enough to visually signal you can expect icy chunks. read more

Stopped by Gold Orchards when I was in town visiting on Memorial Day weekend. Their peach ice cream was delicious and they had some baked goods there as well. Their peach pie looked delicious but I was traveling by myself and wouldn't be able to eat the whole thing! I also picked up a bag of peaches. Update: we decimated the peach cobbler. It was delicious! I cannot even imagine how amazing it would have been served a la mode fresh from the oven. Walked into the kitchen at Gold's and the aroma of thousands of peach pies has been baked into the very walls. They should charge admission just to walk inside. I brought my 90 year old mom to purchase a half bushel of peaches from Gold's Orchard so she could enjoy an activity that would bring back childhood memories. We were greeted by an older woman who seemed so friendly and helpful. We explained what we wanted and she called a young man, who apparently was in charge of fulfilling the orders. I asked how much it would cost and the young man gave me the price. We agreed that would be fair and then the woman encouraged us to go in the store because it would take awhile to sort through the peaches and fulfill our order. When they were ready, we paid and were on our way. We returned to our cottage and began peeling the peaches and were appauled because peach after peach was at least half rotten, and i was convinced they intentionally sold us bad peaches. I expected to have a few bad ones out of 25 pounds, but, honestly, every peach was flawed and most weren't worth salvaging. I was upset that I got ripped off and it ruined the experience for my mom, but worse than that was the fact the woman taught the young man that this is how we do business. Shame on her! read more

On our way from Pedernales Falls to Enchanted Rock, we start seeing signs for orchard-picked peaches all along the highway. The thought of a bag of fresh, ripe peaches after a hot summer day of hiking was too good to resist. With the sun going down we quickly pull into one stand after another, only to find them closed! Finally, we pull into Gold Orchards just as they start to pull their merchandise in. It's a family affair and they happily hand us a bag of delicious peaches. We step inside the storeroom to pay for the bag, when we're suddenly greeted by the most amazing smells you can imagine! The back of the store is a full on kitchen and arrayed on the counter are fresh baked peach pies, beer breads, peach ice cream, and so much more. We spent 30 minutes in there, just soaking up the aromas and talking with the incredibly friendly staff. We stopped here on our way back to Round Rock. I had seen it on our way into Fredericksburg, but the weather was hot and we decided if it was opened when we came back we would stop. So on the way home, we missed the sign and had to turn around.... karma tells me we should have kept going. The pie was $18 and it wasn't even a full crust (please how much is flour, water & lard???). Anyway, we bought it since we did go out of our way, but I was stunned at the price. The lady behind the counter had these ultra long fingernails, and I was hoping she did not make the pie, because they didn't look very hygienic. The inside of the store is a large room, with a kitchen & register behind a counter. There is a kitchen table in the middle and people just sitting around the table. She told me not to stop anywhere b/c the peaches would ferment in an instant.... I am starting to worry about my 2 hr trip home. Now, inside of the pie was flavorful, but the crust was not very good at all, very mushy on the bottom and hard around the edges. Marie Callender's turns out much better and so do my own, when I get up the gumption to make it from scratch. All in all, I have had much better pies from the Amish and even pie making friends. My favorite is peach and even though the flavor was good, the peaches were all chopped up and my particular preference is sliced. This was no $18 pie!!! read more
