One of my friends and I stopped around 7 PM on a Saturday. There was no one eating inside. There were approximately four waitresses. We sat down and were given oyster crackers. I ordered a spaghetti chili and my friend got a coney dog. Other than only ordering a regular size spaghetti/chili (wish it was bigger) I enjoyed my meal. So for me I like them both, but what I love about Gold Star is their chili burger. Yes they are a fast food chain, but that doesn't mean they skimp on the quality of their food. For the price and taste, their chili burger is one of the best fast food chain burgers I've had and I love their fries. I have eaten at this location several times and their fries always come out hot and crispy. I definitely recommend coming here and ordering yourself a burger. This is like a fast food restaurant except they tell you to sit down and they serve you. The service is fast and efficient. The menus are paper. You are seated with bowls of oyster crackers. My boyfriend ordered a three way (chili with spaghetti and cheese) and I had a chili salad. We shared the Parmesan fries. The fries were addictive and I don't usually like crinkle fries but it was the Parmesan garlic aioli sauce that made them incredibly heavenly! I thought the chili had a weird, sweet flavor. I liked the Fritos and sour cream and cheese it came with. I'm not big on chili overall anyways, but I like the fixings! My boyfriend gave this a 7/10 vs 8.5/10 for Skyline, Gold Star losing points for the fast food atmosphere and he liked the pasta less. I suppose this will be a review for all Goldstars in the area. I had the opportunity to sample one of their burgers about a month ago. Since then, they have quickly become one of my favorites. They are juicy and delicious. I have tried them at several locations and I haven't had a bad one yet. I realize that for a chili store to have good burgers is a bit of an oddity, but they really nailed it. The only issue I have is that they use American "cheese" (that's not real cheese in my book) but that is not enough of a deterrent for me...I will still be eating them. read more

Gold Star get 4 stars from me! This was my very first visit to a Gold Star Chili. I live in WI but visit Cincinatti regularly enough to know that I LOVE Cincy-style chili. My first experiences were only with Skyline (of course!!) and I never felt the reason to try any others until the Skyline near was closed during my visit. This location was only being a block away from me, so I thought it was finally time to give them a chance. Honestly, to an outsider, Skyline and Gold Star are "6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other". They both taste great to me, and both are a hell of a value. I wouldn't kick either out of bed for leaving crumbs- if you know what I mean. The staff here was unfailingly polite. Next time I'm in town, I won't hesitate to choose Gold Star over Skyline if it is more convenient. read more

My wife and I really like Gold Star Chili restaurants, but recently we bought 4 cans of the Original Chili in a 15 oz size, We ate the mix with spaghetti and hotdogs but we were surprised about how watered down the can was. Your competitor also waters down their product in the can also but you can was more so. Please improve the consistency of you products or sales in grocery stores might begin to fall. Well, I can't leave pictures because I've already demolished my food and thought about this review. After eating, it was very good. I had chili cheese fries, 2 coney dogs, and a four-way bean chilly. It was kind of different getting server service from a fast food restaurant. However, it was actually different, pretty nice, and appreciated. The lovely 4 young ladies who were working did a magnificent job of not only making the food. But making sure that when it got to our table it was hot and delicious. It was Saturday afternoon. I was in the Covington area by interstate I-75. Craving both a burger and #chili I pulled into the drive thru lane. The line was short so I was quickly at the menu board making my order for a single #chilicheeseburger meal. About 4 minutes later I was at the pick-up window getting my food. The burger was big and topped with a decent amount of chili and and piled high with cheese. I'd seen more chili on other burgers and was hoping for that for dipping my fries! The onions and mustard gave the burger a distinctive flavor. The crinkle cut fries were crispy & medium in thickness. The regular size order of fries was more than enough to fill me up. With a friendly staff & dine in table service I know that I will return here sometime in the future. Next time I plan to get the vegetarian chili! The locals of Cincinnati pointed me in the direction of Gold Star when asked who has the best chili. I was expecting a family-owned sit down restaurant, but Gold Star is actually a fast-food chain. This was really convenient because I was able to use their drive-thru for my order. I noticed they had vegetarian chili cheese fries on the menu, so it was a no brainer for me! I decided to wash down my fries with a chocolate shake. Unfortunately, they messed up my order and gave me a chili cheese dog. I drove around again and they corrected my order. The worker at the drive-thru window was very apologetic and corrected the issue. The fries were consistent with any fast food restaurant. Now, the chili was a bit on the salty side. Perhaps, I should have asked for no salt on the fries or opted for no cheese. Either way, the chili cheese fries were not up to par. I only slightly prefer Gold Star over Skyline, but I prefer this particular Gold Star to all others. With a 24-hour drive-thru, this chili parlor serves up 3-,4-, and 5-ways with a side of craziness anytime of day or night. The drunken throngs attack this place as soon as the bars close, so it pays to skip last call in favor of a quick coney. If chili spaghetti and coneys aren't your thing (but how could they not be?), then try one of Gold Star's burritos. The orders were correct and like usual, the cheese coney's were yummy. I also had a 4 way with onions that was also excellent. While visiting northern Kentucky back in March, I stayed at a hotel on Cincinnati Riverfront. Most of the nearby eating places were national chains, so I did an internet search for "food near me" to see what else was available. Gold Star Chili was in the results, and without exception was the highest rated of all the restaurants. On my first visit I I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and fries. The server suggested the chili cheese fries, so I tried them out. Wow! So much tasty food. I went back the next night with the idea of trying out a couple of specialties. This time I ordered two Coney Chili Cheese sandwiches and a bowl of chili. The server brought me crackers for the chili and I was all set. What a delicious meal! Even though I ate a couple of other restaurants in the area while I was there so I could sample local seafood and BBQ, I must admit that Gold Star Chili served me my top two meals. I also found the people who worked there to be my favorites among servers on my trip. They were always cordial and friendly, willing to answer my questions about the menu and the area without acting bothered. Everyone knows that if the Bengals win you will at Gold star chilli. I called to make sure this location participated and was told yes. I placed my order then at the window was told that they only did reg size 3ways. I honestly thought I had made the mistake. I called another location and sure enough they included the super size. So I asked to speak to manager. Was told owner on did reg size and they tell their customers that up front I said no I was told up front on the phone. I asked to just be refunded my money and I would go the other location. She refused and said I knew what I was buying. When I was handed my bag the container where not even full. So a poor example of a reg size to boot. When I was leaving my work bestie was arriving to get her special too. I was letting her know they did offer the super size in the special at this location. So, before going to see Calabrese at Mad Hatter (see review #98), we stopped in to Gold Star because my haute cuisine chef friend said I *had* to try to Coney dogs here. One of my friends insisted that Skyline is better, but Gold Star won out (and even won over my Skyline-loving friend, who decided they're about the same). I did indeed get the Coney dogs - three little baby chili dogs. They were really good, particularly the cinnamon flavor in the chili. I also tried one of my friend's chili spaghetti stuff (the three way? say that without giggling...), which was interesting... but definitely not bad. I mainly love the idea of this place, which seems (as an outsider) so unique to the area and to the southern heartland experience. read more
