My only complaint about here is that it needs more seats, but also we were the people who decided to try it on the same night as a Cincinnati FC game. Some things are out of your control, but still I would've enjoyed my food more if I could have sat and ate it. This place feels a little light a hole in the wall in downtown Cincinnati. It does not have lots of tables, it is unassuming on the outside, and the menu is simple. We were drawn to it, even with the long lines because of all of the game goers. Considering its size and the line, we did not wait an unreasonable amount of time to order and then receive our food. Everyone orders at the counter so you have to go through one at a time and wait for everyone before you to decide their orders. The food is then called out and you have to go get it. This system probably helped our situation and made things move faster. I got their signature turtle, which is basically a large crunch wrap, with chicken served southwest style. It was awesome but very large! We were going out after and did not want to carry leftover boxes, so I ate it all and kind of regretted it after. But I simply could not stop cause the food was so good! The prices are also fair and they have plenty of beer and cocktails to offer from their bar. I would love to come back here on a quieter night so we can sit and enjoy the food wholly, perhaps with a beverage as well. read more

Really glad I found this little place! I had a tofu bowl, my husband had a tofu turtle, and my son had the Baja chicken turtle. The tofu was cooked really well. It was a bit salty but for my particular health reasons, I need extra salt so it was perfect. My 9yo who is normally very picky absolutely loved his chicken turtle. We will absolutely be back. FYI- if you eat in, you're automatically charged a 15% gratuity. Not saying it's bad, just be aware. read more

I want to try this place! And I really hate to leave a 1 star review for a place where I've never eaten, but I have TRIED to eat here. I called on a week night (not a weekend), to ask some questions about reservations and other food accommodations. It should have been a quick interaction. I'm sure you've all been in the "Hello, can you please hold?" situation. It was fine, but after over 25 minutes of waiting, I hung up and emailed the contact on the website. They argued with me back and forth several times before asking for my receipt (?) and my to-go order when I never had the chance to even order food or speak to anyone. They indicated the business worked on 75% NOT to-go orders, which was never the issue . I've seen so many yummy reviews about this place, it's disheartening. read more

Okokokokokokayyyyyy. This is just one of those awesome concept places that also delivers with style, flavors and price. There should be one Gomez in every state, not necessarily a major city, but there needs to be some community of people pre/post gaming at a Gomez everywhere. The turtle is a crazy invention and yet not cuz it's super familiar. It's a Crunchwrap supreme with a slightly hardened cheese shell. The chicken with Diablo style was great, really should have gotten the special that was Cali style with delicately fried fish. Good drinks as well. read more

Gomez never disappoints! I will preface by saying I've never gotten anything but the Turtle, but it has never done me wrong so I see no reason to! Fresh ingredients, incredible flavor, and huge portions! I have tried all the variations and I enjoyed every one. I recommend the Baja because of the sweet element and the guac is perfection. I was intrigued by the "turtle" I read about during my Cincy food tour research. I made a point of eating here if I was able to drum up any GI space during our trip. We were able to stop in before leaving for the airport on our last half day. We had already eaten 2 breakfasts and this was lunch so GF and I decided to share one. She also went rogue and ordered not only chips and queso but a LARGE chips and queso. The place was empty upon our arrival and actually looked closed but it was a quite a relief that it wasn't. The person working there was patient with us while we obnoxiously discussed our decision making out loud before placing the order. She recommended the diablo for the spicy-inclined as well as the southwest. I was thrilled to see tofu as a protein option which we chose to go in our southwest turtle. I also chose of the impressive number of beers they have on draught. I noticed after ordering this that they also have margaritas and some other fun concoctions. The food came out pretty quickly. The turtle was bundled like a warm baby in foil and accompanied by one of their sauces. It is quite photogenic when you open it up. It was pretty stuffed with rice, some lettuce, corn salsa, a few jalapeño strips, peppers, and a really deliciously flavored tofu. Last but not least was the cheddar cheese which was not only inside but also crisped on the outside of the turtle to perfection. This was very filling and the texture combo was on point. I do think the refreshing but umami taste of a hot sauce, tomato-based salsa, or diced tomatoes would have elevated the shit out of this. THIS was what was missing for me. The queso was very good as well. It was warm and served a little chameleon with the viscosity, at first dip, it was thicker but with a gentl stir, it became more liquid. The chips tasted like they were homemade, nice and crisp and not too thick. The inside is pretty cool too. I went to use the bathroom before leaving (pineapple cider, you understand) and there was zero paper whatsoever in there. No TP. No paper towels. Sigh. Not sure what that means about the staff washing their hands but I don't want to speculate. read more

Located in a lively area of OTR, Gomez is a unique fast casual Mexican joint. The signature item is the Turtle, which is basically a crunch wrap on steroids. The southwestern and baja wraps were flavorful and colorful and the diablo wrap was decent. While it packed a big punch of spice, the spiciness overpowered the other flavors. The chips and queso were good as well. The queso was a bit too thin but had a satisfying flavor. The space can get quite cramped, but that is just a testament to how popular it is! read more

The food was fine, no issue there. But when it's 4 days after a snow storm and they have not cleared their parking nor the sidewalks past the immediate door front, that's a problem. We watched 2 people fall because they had no place to park and Gomez did not clear a path. When I mentioned it to the guy taking orders he said the owner didn't care! First time trying it last night 4/24 and I guess I'm in the minority here but I thought it was just alright. I got the barbacoa turtle and my girlfriend got the tofu burrito. They both looked good but once we started eating, both items were basically just the protein and rice. Not many toppings like we both like and that give Mexican style food all that great flavor. The beef was a little on the dry side so the Baja sauce they provided was much needed. I'd give it another try but based on the first impression, it just goes to show you that you can be mediocre and still stay open. I know it's been open for a while now so maybe just going downhill or just an off night? Idk maybe next time will be better. read more

The past few times I've eaten here I order my food vegan and they still add cheese to it despite the receipt saying vegan no dairy. I know mistakes happen but it's been multiple times in a row. As a restaurant owner I feel the staff needs to communicate better. When I get this it's usually after work and by the time I get home and sit down to eat they are closed for the night and I'm not able to get my order replaced. I have long loved the turtles! But as I no longer work in the neighborhood it has been AGES since one has graced my tastebuds. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they now have dine in space (once upon a time it was just a humble walk up window )! I wasn't there long enough to get a good feel for the space but I bet it's a good time - particularly in the summer! Since I was only there to pick up, I can't comment on the service but does it really matter once they hand you the delicious turtly-cheesy goodness? So long as the order is correct and makes it into my mouth --- you're a gold star hero according to me. The Baja sauce is great, if youre considering ordering anything less than 8oz of the queso - please dont make that mistake, go big! The elotes dip seems to be the baja sauce mixed with the corn salsa (plus a little something?) very good but probably not something I'm willing to pay $8 for moving forward, the pulled chicken is good - basic (I seem to remember one of the other protein choices being more flavorful but my elder millennial memory is failing me). read more

The only reason anyone wouldn't give this a 5 is because it can sometimes be a long wait to get your food when they get busy. Otherwise? They do a great job. They're flexible as they can be with what ingredients they have (meaning i've asked them to make some specific requests and they always have), they're friendly, the servings are filling (if not massive), and the food is good. I got the diablo turtle which was HAWT, but not so much so that I couldn't enjoy it by any means. The crunch of the shell was angelic, the sauce on my chicken - yes. For $9 I was full after my first half of the turtle, so I'd say an extremely good bang for your buck. I can't imagine it's not good sober, but definitely go in with an appetite. This is a spot that one of my friends recommended. My friends and I came for lunch. It was confusing at first. You can easily spot the walk-up window in which you can order, but you have to go through Half Cut in order to walk inside the actual space. It's small. Only a few large tables. It seems like a place to go late at night when you've been out. It's also a good place to get carry-out. My friends and I dined in and got lucky to find a table to sit at. I ordered the burrito with chicken, Gomez style: lettuce, cheese, crema, rice, beans, corn, pico, and gomez ( not sure what that is). It tasted good! I think the crema brought out some nice flavors. Both my friends got turtles. They looked like pressed burritos with cheese on top. One got it with carnitas, Gomez-style, while my other friends got fajita vegetables, Southwest-style (spicy crema, rice,beans, salsa verde, lettuce, cheese). It was all pretty good for $9. It's nice to see that they have vegetarian options here. Cool place! You can watch games here too, as they've got a few TVs. read more

Im shocked by how good this place was, not because it didn't give that vibe, but because of the memories it left. I could not wait to back the next day, and I did! I went back and got the same thing. I can only image what it would all taste like walking down cincinnati, after a night full of drinks and eating this restaurant. I have to say if you are in cincy do yourself a favor and give this place a try! My wife and I must've finished the chips and cheese even before we got home. The turtle was the dish that i tried, got it spicy and chicken. It was delicious. All my meals were to go, so I can't say much for the ambiance or sitting, but the taste alone will make me come back. The service was ok, they mixed up our order, and they forgot some items, if the food wasn't soo darn good, I probably wouldn't go back.
