Being that there are only a few Raising Cane's in Michigan I had yet to try this fast fast food joint that everyone seems to love. However, I was in Cincinnati for the night for work and by the time we wrapped our event my dining options were not exactly plentiful. I figured this would be a convenient time to try them so I went ahead and entered their location into my maps and went to their website to order ahead of time so I could really just jump in and out. Ordering was not difficult though I was honestly a little surprised and how small the menu was. Do a few things and do them well, I would imagine is their motto! I ended up ordering the 4 piece combo and was told it would be ready in 10. I made my way over there with a few minutes to spare. This location does not have a drive thru and is in the bottom level of a larger building so I had to find a place to park to run in. This was surprisingly NOT easy on 10pm on a Wednesday night but I finally managed to get a standing spot (which imagine was dedicated for food delivery person pick up). I ran inside and it was packed with a super long line and a ton of people waiting. I was even happier that I had ordered ahead of time and looked to their online order pick up shelves. They were empty though the staff was calling out names and handing out bags of food so I thought, "oh it's busy and mine just isn't ready yet. I'll wait." And I waited. And waited. And waited. My bad for not going up to the counter sooner but the line was so long I didn't want to wait there and I didn't want to jump in front of anyone just to ask (I'm polite, OK?). But after a few minutes I got antsy and just went ahead and did the "PSST!" thing to the cashier between customers. And yes, of course, my meal was ready. Had been for some time, right behind the counter. I grabbed it filled my beverage and made my way back out. Back at my hotel I dug in and found that because of the wait it had gotten a bit cold and the fries and texas toast had gotten a bit soggy. Somehow, however, the chicken maintained some crunch and I found it to be quite good. I imagine if I were to have gotten it fresh out of the fryer and eaten it onsite I would have enjoyed it much more. It's hard not to love Raising Cane's when they sell dirt cheap gooey hot fresh fried chicken tenders until all hours of the night and they even sell them by the single tender in case you are poor or not very hungry or wanting to limit your calorie intake. Never been to a Canes and never heard of a Canes. My son said he heard it was good and we were hungry so this was where we landed. Service was amazing. A couple years ago I would have given this location a five star review but something has changed with the taste of their food that has made it less enjoyable. They must have sourced from somewhere new. The chicken tenders are now basically the size of chicken nuggets. The staff is always friendly and swift with taking orders. Which the menu being so limited (I really enjoy the items) it sucks that they seemed to have changed for the worse. It's not like I can choose something else to eat when there is only one main item on the menu. I am taking off two stars. One for the limited menu and one for the product change to worse tasting, smaller tenders. Overall atmosphere is very city like and enjoyable if that is what you are into. I wish the Slaw and Cane Sauce came in bigger cups......but the Chicken Fingers, Bread and Fries are AMAZING! It's consistent and the Calhoun Street location in the area called UC/Clifton/University/Uptown is one of the best. They handle a crowd well and the store is clean and well kept.......I love Cane's but they MUST give you more Sauce/Cole Slaw. They give you SO much chicken. Offer a smaller amount of chicken (a snack) for a lesser price or offer enough sauce to complete the entire meal but don't give people so much chicken and not enough of that amazing Cane Sauce to cover the entire meal.....it's JUST NOT KIND!!!!! There are Raising Canes locations back in California too and for some reason I decided to try it for the first time in Cincinnati. I didn't know what I would think of it and I didn't come with high expectations but honestly for cheap fast food, the chicken fingers were quite good and some how very juicy. I don't know how they make the chicken fingers really juicy but it's the kind of fast food I would eat again. They also have reasonably priced combo meals which includes chicken fingers, a drink, toasted bread, and a drink. Pretty good for a fast food restaurant in my opinion and I can see this as a hang out spot for students like myself. It has finally happened. Raising Cane's has opened at The University Of Cincinnati and has made everyone's lives at the school. Okay, Well, I may be saying this a little dramatically but it is pretty awesome. A lot of people are pretty excited. My fiancé and I went the day the opened last week and the place was already packed in the first thirty minutes of being opened. They honestly could not have opened up at a better location in Cincinnati. They also have awesome hours for their main demographic. Sun-Wed 10:30AM-12:00AM and Thu-Sat 10:30AM-3:00AM. I don't see myself eating anywhere at 3AM but it's awesome that we have the option. Something Cincinnati doesn't have a lot of which I was spoiled by in Columbus. Late night food spots. Cane's has my favorite fast food chicken strips. They are so good. I pretty much always get "The Box Combo" Chicken, French Fries, Cane's Sauce, Texas Toast and Slaw. They also have the best Ice Tea and Sweet Tea. Cane's also does catering which looks like it would be awesome for something to pick up for a Family Reunion or your Fantasy Football draft party. Honestly, the only issue I can think about with this location is the parking and traffic if you don't live in Clifton. Mostly due to all the construction that's going on around campus. Which should all be cleared up by this fall. You can just park in either of the parking garages of both sides of Cane's and the first thirty minutes is free as well. If this is your first time trying Cane's and you live in Cincy I would suggest going to this one. The one is West Chester is pretty decent, and the one in Florence is awful. Just what UC and Clifton needed! My first run in with Canes was when it was exclusively up in Columbus, since then it has expanded all over and what better place for it than in Clifton. This is not your typical fast food joint, this is Raising Canes! They have a limited menu but what they have they do well. The main focus is chicken chicken chicken and their magic canes sauce. Can't go wrong with any of the tenders freshly dipped into the sauce. Chicken is crispy and flaky, toast is nice and tasty and the crinkle cut fries too it off. If you're starving or want something to share with another the Caniac combo is perfect for that, and to note that you can sub the slaw or toast for vice verse and extra fries or tenders sometimes. The restaurant is clean, service is quick and friendly, and I would honestly probably still go there if they weren't, just because the tenders are THAT good. Two small inconveniences: 1) street parking can be difficult to find, but there's a cheap lot a block or two away; and 2) if you get it to go, the garlic toast and fries might get a little soggy. There are plenty of tables inside and outside to accommodate everyone. The meal combos offered here are very affordable and are made to order every time. Horribly understaffed. The food is generally good, if not a bit undercooked (the Texas toast). The line when I got there was so long people were standing outside in the square. It's a Saturday night at 8:30 and there was no one eating inside just a horrible line and one register open. Staff yelled at people for waiting outside the door because of fire code; while not offering a solution to the people standing outside in the 14°F cold.
