First time coming to the Newport location. I love going to the non common chains because of the authenticity, taste and history of the Cincinnati chili. They had a great ordering system and had several people cleaning off the tables to move pas they were busy. I always get a 5 way and a cheese coney. I was in Cincinnati for a night, and came here after the Reds game. When in Rome, right? I went with 2 cheese coneys and an order of cheese curds. How were they? Decent. Cheese Coneys- These were smaller hot dogs stuffed inside a fresh, hot, steamed bun, then topped with chili and a mound of shredded cheddar. Super messy to eat. Taste was alright. The chili itself was not spicy, but had a lot of spices/flavoring in it. I could definitely taste a little sweetness (cinnamon?). Cheese Curds- These came out piping hot. I got my dogs first, then they brought these out to my table. These were freshly fried, great cheese pull...solid order of cheese curds. Service was straight to the point. Not a lot of smiling going on, but whatever, people are here to eat and get out of here. They serve everything pretty fast and efficient. Would I come back? Eh, maybe. You order at the register up front and then it's like a school lunch line where you have your tray and the ladies put your drinks and food on your tray before you pick your table to sit. Getting there: you can park along the street, they also have parking in the back. Cincinnati chili is wild - I didn't grow up eating this kind of chili. It tastes very classic, retro American from the 50's-60's. Gotta try it if you're a real foodie. Food: Ordered the 6 way. Chili with raw garlic was solid. Noodles weren't soggy. Coney dog was ok, but the waffle fries came in hot and crispy dunked in the cold ketchup. Yum! Vibes: American retro diner feels, nice staff, and plenty of booth/table/outdoor seating. And let me say I had no real expectations because I've heard mixed reviews (not about Dixie, just in general), but I have been wanting to try it since I moved to the area a few years ago. Consensus on the 3-way: tasty and would eat again! :) I enjoyed the flavor of the chili - a little sweet, and you can't go wrong with a pile of shredded cheddar cheese. The noodles were OK, I can understand why it might be a weird pairing with chili, but it just reminded me of pasta sauce! The oyster crackers added nothing for me. Okay two things. 1. I am glad I listened to everyone about trying Dixie versus Skyline and 2. I had no idea the coney dogs were baby sized. LOL. We saw them at the Reds game and noticed how tiny they were and thought that was just at the game. Then when we ordered them at Dixie they were still tiny I realized that was how they come. A little shocking. We ordered some dogs of course and the spaghetti 5 ways. I had never had Cincinnati chili on spaghetti but it was actually fairly good. I don't feel the need to ever get it again tough. I will stick to the coney dogs. It's a bit different than other chili places I've been to, because you order, they give you a tray and you wait for your food (instead of them bringing the food to you). Firstly no complaints about the food. It's always consistent and I think the best in the area. Disappointed in the service and value. I know stuff is expensive but the small plate of fries I got was pretty sad and didn't seem worth almost $4. I've noticed the serving size has gotten smaller recently but this was a bit egregious. Someone in our group ordered a 4 way with lettuce instead of pasta. The staff seemed a bit confused at the request but got it right. However, we were charged extra for the lettuce. I feel like if it would be reasonable if they added the lettuce to the 5 way but it was basically subbed in and we were still charged extra. It's a small amount but it felt like a we were nickel and dimed. I don't see how lettuce would be a higher cost than pasta. Lastly, while the service has never been super warm, the staff on duty this visit seemed like they would have rather been anywhere else. It seemed like we were bothering them when we went back up and asked for condiments. While I'll surely go back when I'm in the mood for a coney, I will reconsider going as frequently. read more

Very solid chili. Got the signature 6-way and it was really good. Better than Skyline, which I like, but not as good as Camp Washington. Definitely worth getting if you're in the northern Kentucky area. If you get jalapeños get them on the side because they kinda overpower unwanted the extra heat but it was all I tasted in those bites. I ordered them specifically, so that is my bad, but I would recommend them on the side so you can control the flavor a bit more. Otherwise the chili was good and beefy and not too sweet. Skyline is a little too smooth for me in texture so this was nice to have definite chunks of ground beef in the chili and more beef flavor. Also the location on Monmouth is along a strip of really cool other restaurants and bars and stuff that is great to check out. Also this location is open late so it's good for late night eating. Don't mix it up with the spot in south Covington which closes at 8. Definitely made that mistake. read more

Trying other Chili Parlors is risky So these days I come to Newport, strictly And I get the 6-way About 5 times a day Whenever I'm near Kentucky's Dixie! Ohio may have f***ed us over in the election, but Northern KY does not f*** over Cinci, Ohio when it comes to perfecting Cinci's best dish. After all this time, this is still the gold standard for chili. And when I say gold standard, I mean this is some of the best chili you'll ever taste in your life. And I don't mean Gold Star (a rival Cinci Chili Parlor), or Camp Washington (the best Cinci area Parlor that isn't Dixie and/or isn't in KY and I don't mean jelly). Second to nonem and covered in big chunks of garlic, this is the Chili of dreams. It's the Chili of my dreams especially. Bogart would call it the Chili that dreams are made of. I love it and I will keep coming here for it until the cows come home, although I'm not sure where the cows live so I'm not sure how I would be able to figure out when they arrive back home, but you get my point. Even though it's just outside Cincinnati and all the locations are just outside Cincinnati inside Northern Kentucky, it is by far the best chili in the Cincinnati region, so well done to KY for bettering Cinci's best gift to the world. And while Camp Washington and others are very good, this is the off-the-charts life-changing chili that is worth coming all the way to Cincinnati for. The previous visit, Dixie Chili was wonderful as always and they served me 10 minutes before closing so I wish I could give them 10 Stars instead of 5. They were really nice about it and I enjoyed every bite... every incredibly garlicky bite... oh my God have I ever had something with this much garlic on it before? Nope. Kind of like cocaine. Oh sorry. But like I've said before: Dixie Chili, or "Dix" for short, is not only the best Chili parlor in the city most famous (in the world) for chili parlors (Cinci), but it's also perhaps the best Chili parlor anywhere. When you are in Cinci, it is a must visit. The irony is, it's not actually in Cinci, but Northern KY is to Cinci what Northern VA is to DC (with a few notable differences), so this is still considered a Cinci area parlor. What to get: 6-way Chili What else: 5-way if you don't like garlic, poor soul/dracula Anything else: Sure, a 3-way if you're up for it babes The reason Dixie is so good? Probably the 6-way. It combines Spaghetti with onions, meat, beans, heaps of cheese, sauce, and best of all, a crap ton of garlic. It's pretty divine and the garlic - which most Chili parlors don't offer - really makes it great. It's a lovely place to sit down, diner-style, reminds me of the 50s... not that I remember them personally. Anyway, if you don't love Dix, it's because you haven't tried the right Dix yet. This is the one to try. Get down here and put some Dix in your mouth and you'll end up loving Dix as much as I do. Staff is kind, and can we talk about the waffle fries?!!? You go through the queue and order your food where you were given a little flag, and a tray. But I was pleasantly surprised!! Cincinnati chili is very different from the chili I've had in the past. It's has some cinnamon in it which I thought I wouldn't like but it definitely works! While I love their cheese coneys and spaghetti, on this trip we opted to try a deli sandwich. Regular Turkey sandwich is $7.85 but since we were sharing we decided to double the meat for an additional $2.50. We modified the sandwich with no lettuce or tomato and requested that the mayo be served on the side (note, they charged me .15 cents to serve on the side) but gave us a bowl of mayo instead?? All additions to your sandwich are charged separately. In addition to the chips, we decided to try the waffle fries for $3. Although the turkey was fresh and tasty, we agreed that the serving size was small for being a double, fries were hot, but again small serving size. Everything about this place is fantastic! We love it so much! It was a very late night chili run and Dixie is always the perfect place to get your fix! We ordered a six way, two coneys with onions and chili cheese fries. My husband loves their garlic! He swears it comes from Gilroy, the "garlic capital of the world!" The chili is always thick with a rich flavor. Spaghetti, beans, chili, garlic, onions and finely shredded real cheddar piled on top! It's amazing! You pick up a chili cheddar waffle fry and there is no dripping chili because it is so thick. It's the perfect amount of chili and cheese piled on crisp waffle fries, scrumptious! And the coneys, the buns are so soft, the hot dogs are fresh, a stripe of mustard, chili, onions and cheese piled high! It makes my mouth water! If you've grown up with this but miss it because you no longer live locally, they have cases of chili or emergency packs you can ship home to cover you until your next trip. We always take it home or order it online! Enjoy it in the restaurant when you have an opportunity. It has an old style diner feel with a working jukebox in the back. It's been there as long as I can remember. Be sure to check out the photos on the wall. It's the history of a great family, wonderful restaurant and their many years of service to the community! When ever I come back home to Cincinnati I have to stop into Dixie on Monmouth. Living in Detroit I can get "coney" but nothing is better than a true Cincinnati chili parlor. Dixie has a great old school Greek diner type atmosphere. If you think Gold Star or Skyline is Cincinnati Chili you're mistaken. With fall weather hitting I found myself on a Cincinnati chili kick. I love that our city has its own cuisine it's know for. I started this quest with the originator of the style, Empress Chili, but Dixie may be the top (coney) dog at this point. I love the history of this place! I have been ordering the same thing at every parlor I visit. Two coneys with mustard and onions, fries, and a Coke. These guys also have their own hot sauce, which is very good! I wanted to buy a bottle but it's $9 for a 12oz bottle and I have many other favorites for much less than that. Anyway, the coneys were exceptional! The chili is the best i have had so far and this was my 5th parlor out of 16. The service was really good. I love the fact that the founders family is still involved. That makes a difference in my opinion. I will definitely be back after I finish my chili tour. read more

I popped by this weekend for some Dixie Chili this weekend to pick up some grub with a friend. I had a regular 3-way and I messed up my coney order (which was on me, not them... womp womp). The interior has lots of diner vibes and the staff was helpful. There was a plastic barrier between the staff and customers. The service was also pretty quick. The 3-way did leave a little to be desired. Honestly, thought the flavor was lacking in the chili itself. The ratio of chili to spaghetti also wasn't great. Not to be a negative nancy over here, but the oyster cracker game also wasn't as strong as other locations. The food wasn't bad, but I'm hoping this was just a bit of an off day. Pretty good spot for a quick and tasty lunch. My wife and I met here one day for lunch and service was fast and friendly. Food was good, hot and fresh made. Felt like an old style chili parlor with neat town setting perfectly located for walking and exploring shops, restaurants, and bars in the area. Get the alligator coney, it was very unique and delicious. The alligator consisted of Mayo, mustard, hot dog, pickle spear, and cheese. We also added chili to the alligator and it was delicious. This was a late afternoon (unplanned) lunch in Newport KY location that was better than I could have expected. Passing through Cincinnati on a Wednesday afternoon, I took a detour off the interstate to find Dixie Chili and I was glad that I did. A very nostalgic small town diner feel, very clean, well lit and well staffed, the service was fast and very courteous. This Cincinnati style chili is something I randomly crave but their 6-Way Chili with 2 Cheese Coneys was just what the doctor ordered. This is unlike the Chili at Gold Star and Skyline because the garlic takes their recipe to a different level!
