Avoid this center: A total waste of two years. Gold Star Gymnastics is a pure money-trap that prioritizes business over athlete development. My daughter came from a competitive background (Hot Shots at CSC) and is a world record holder in hula hooping, yet the coaches here showed zero interest in her potential. We invested in double classes and summer camps to accelerate her progress, but she was stuck in their "orange/yellow" level for a year with no path forward. The "coaches" never bothered to provide targeted training or help her reach the pre-team level. To make matters worse, they gave her crushing negative feedback right to her face after a pre-team evaluation, which ultimately caused her to quit gymnastics entirely. They rely on their central location to attract new families, but they do not care about the students. Save your time and money--look elsewhere. read more

My kids are going to Gold star gym for the last 8(!) years. During this time we've got to experience most of their programs including rec classes, ninja, cheer, and competitive teams. The reason we are staying and trying more classes is the rare combination between pushing kids forward skill wise, and giving them a solid feeling of exclusion, acceptance, and healthy boundaries. The staff is always welcoming and open to work with families on issues. As an employer, GS provides a respectful, teaching environment to their young coaches, which is heart warming! Really disappointed with the lack of communication from this organization. I signed my son up for a trial class and received an email that they will notify me if there is a spot available for that days class (it was a weekday morning). When I did not hear back from them closer to that day, I called several times with no answer and sent an email. I finally received an email 10 minutes before class was about to start informing me to please show up to class 10 minutes before class start to sign in.... I emailed back asking if there's another make up class we can attend...no response and just a generic response to register after taking a trial class (which we haven't). No thanks. Came for a trail and it was all about trying to squeeze for as much money they can get .. The class was pretty crowded and I was shocked that the teacher didn't come up and talk to me about areas my child could improve or which classes to take. I didn't feel like they were really doing any real gymnastics just like a Zumba class at most. How they make money is that u start at the bottom regardless of ur skill set so there isn't even testing out so they hook you on and make you pay up It was very disorangzied because after you sign the waiver u just go to the mat area and nobody was greeting or telling me where to go no welcome to the gym anything ... it was such a sour experience wouldnt won't to go back read more

So we had gone for a trial to see if we would like the program including my daughter. The front desk person that initially helped was really nice let us know where to go after. I was a tiny bit disappointed that the teacher didn't come over, we kinda had to guess which class was hers. Well I called today after talking it over with my husband and daughter. And we decided to sign up for 3 weeks and see how much my daughter really loves gymnastics. And the person on the phone was pretty snarky and rude. Gold Star Gymnastics is amazing! My kids love the classes and the staff is courteous, helpful and friendly. Our kids attend weekly 1 hour sessions for the past few years and always have a great time. Gold Star's online scheduling system is also incredible for a gymnastics studio, you can view all classes, register and update all information online, which is very helpful. The staff is also great. Every time I've asked for help with scheduling 2 different kids in different classes at the same time they are very proactive and make it work. They also will put you on waitlists and call when slots open up, even for 2 separate waitlists that each need to be at the same time. I highly recommend them for anyone who wants to get their kids started in gymnastics, they are worth every penny. read more

Came here for a free trial of the adult gymnastics class. Overall it was a really positive experience. There were maybe 20-30 adults in the class, including a handful of newcomers. Following the 30 minute warm up, we were free to use the gym as we liked. The instructors were incredibly friendly and encouraging. A few of us wanted to learn how to do a backflip, so the instructors set up a couple progressive drills for us to practice and get comfortable with the movement, before finally spotting us for a backflip into the foam pit. Had lots of fun and left feeling accomplished! read more

Been have my kids coming here for 5+ years. It's been solid for the most part! My gripe has been the recent change in policy for make-ups. It's been more and restrictive. Now if you miss, you must: schedule the makeup within 30 days, once scheduled you can't change it within one week, no refunds, if the 30 days passes and it's not used, you lose it this is a tough policy to follow especially during the school year when tough kids schedule combined with a narrow makeup policy collide. I hope Gold Star reconsiders this policy and make it more flexible for their customers. read more

I went there to understand how suitable their program would be for my grandchildren during the summer, and the owner came out and spoke to me very impressive. I think it's much more than adequate. The summer programs don't seem to have the high caliber that the winter programs have, but the staff is excellent, and the offering is more than sufficient. My kid joined the Mini Star class. Within the 45 minutes class, the instructor spent almost 15 minutes to just play "hula" with freestyle, which we could play it by ourselves at home! I feel like wasting the tuition. The whole place is very noisy. I guess the soundproofing system is not builded well. The instructors need to shout to students to let them hear what she/he said, but I am not sure if the students could hear it clearly. Also the environment is not clean. I highly doubt if the instructors are professional educational-trained. When students were waiting for using an equipment, there was a kid cut the line and be front of my kid. Almost all of the parents saw it, including the instructor. My kid even told the instructor that kid cut the line, then that instructor STILL let that kid used the equipment first!! My kid was very upset and cried right away. Even 4 years old kids know "the rule of being in line", how come that adult instructor did not follow it especially in the class? I have had 2 kids take classes here and most recently had my preschooler in a week day morning class. We recently quit since they've changed their makeup class policies. They would only allow us a handful of class times to makeup our missed classes, none of which are a morning week day even though they have plenty of openings. They won't let me reschedule a makeup class until we miss the class which would be ok except they are booked at least 2 weeks out and at the same time, you only have a month to makeup your classes. My son and his 2 friends in class are used to a pretty calm and empty gym with only a few other kids around. The makeup classes were very chaotic with several full classes going on at the same time. They were not comfortable with it and were scared to participate during the class. Even when they returned to our quiet class within a couple days, they were still not comfortable and we had to try to coax them back onto the floor. My friend's kid didn't end up participating in 2 classes in a row so they quit and after my frustrations with scheduling makeup classes, we quit too and left the makeup classes on the table. We were enjoying the program until the new policy and are very disappointed. The admin staff were not very empathetic to us when we expressed our concerns either. I am grateful they refunded the new monthly dues I had just paid for since the month did not start yet. read more

Had an amazing time coming here with a group to play around and get some basics of how to do an aerial and front walkover. Didn't get a chance to do anything fancy involving the parallel bars but goodness me the quality of the materials given how long they've been here and how many kids they've been supporting really blew me away. The foam pit was very useful in helping with jumps and finding the courage to do the aerial, which requires so much training and work! Definitely not the type of trick you'd want to practice in your backyard over concrete, or even carpet. Had a bit of an excursion with the boys in my group who thought reenacting the titanic scene with Rose floating on a door in the middle of the ocean was the best idea of the evening. This facility is good and they have enough parking available. I don't think teachers are paying lot of attention in what little kids are learning at least at star mini level. They evaluate only once in couple of months for very basic skills. That means kids don't progress even if they know all the skills. May be the experience is different for the elder kids. One pros is you can cancel the class anytime and getting the make up class scheduled anytime is easy. It can be crowded in the evening before pm. Over all this 3.5* for me. read more

Tldr: Good Management, good Makeup class policy. Teachers care to engage and teach. My 4 year old is taking classes here. I have seen 5 teachers during assigned slot and make up slots and trial class. They go through same circuit in every class every time, but all of them have different style of engaging with kids. My kid is slightly less active , does only simple stuff in typical kids playing area, so we thought of getting some gymnastic training for him. We are seeing results. In my experience with other classes like Soccer and Swimming, I can see that kids will improve only slowly and incrementally, so don't expect magical improvement at this age. My kid's first assigned teacher was not good, talked to the management about it via email. They heard me the next day over phone and followed up with me in next class. End result was very satisfactory. I did not see any problem with other (4 of 5) teachers, so I guess bad experience was uncommon and it was resolved timely and professionally. read more

There new location is fantastic. You can see the entire floor from any spot now. It doesn't smell too much like feet at the moment. They quickly filled up all the additional space and looks like they could even use more space. All the great teachers and staff are here and my daughter looks forward to coming every week. I wish they had a better waiting area. The cattle rush when classes are starting and ending is like a surging sea of adults bobbing on a wave of kids and toddlers. They need to get a bigger place. WiFi is strong and pretty fast to do work while waiting for class to end and there is a lone table that i can work from. Little win. read more

Jade, Precious and Kiana are great coaches I had with my kid's birthday party. To give a few details: 1. From the minute our family arrived, they started to offer help in every way they could, e.g. decoration, unloading food and setting up tables, passing around pizza and cake, you name it; 2. They are very warmhearted and genuinely care for the kids. All the little ones had a great time playing with them; 3. They have good organizational and communication skills, the party could not have gone so smoothly without these skills. For example, upon arrival we re-arranged the tables together to be between the two bathroom doors; when the pizza was later for a little bit, they made it go unnoticeable by let the kids eat fruits first In summary, we are more than satisfied with the party. Actually several of my guests expressed how lucky I am to have booked the party at your place. You deserve five stars! read more

We had an amazing birthday celebration for my 6 year old sister at Gold Star. Everyone was so accommodating and helpful. We got to set up 15 minutes before everyone arrived. They had a fridge ready for our cake. We had our party from 5-7 and the girls pretty much had the gym to them selves with no distractions. They got an hour and half of jumping, dancing, laughing with the help of two instructors guiding them through all the obstacle courses. The last 30 minutes they got to enjoy cake and socializing. The two instructors helped with passing out cake and hanging out with the girls. They never left our side and we're super helpful guiding us through the whole process! This is for the communication of a trial class. I called a week before to schedule a trial class and was offered three time spots. I picked one and was sent a confirmation email. When I got there on my scheduled time, the front desk staff told me I was waitlisted. I was very confused as I wasn't told this is a spot on waitlist on the phone. Then another staff kept telling me with a not so friendly tone that it said "wait" on the email. Yes there is a "wait" on the email but there is also a "start day" which is today. And why would they offer a trial class that is full instead of one that is open? They also said I should have received an email telling me my class was coming next week which I've never received. (I looked through my mailbox including junk box.) I would say at least their system is very confusing and the staff hasn't been very welcoming. read more

Let me start off by saying our Family is now banned from Gold Star due to this review. For more context, here are additional details for the negative review for Gold Star. We had two girls attending the gym for more than 3 years. Back in March, one was on the artistic team and one was on one of the competitive cheer teams. We sent a note to the cheer coach on Jan 3 that our daughter would miss the two-day competition on April 7-8. We never received any sort of response from her coach or anyone from the gym until Sunday March 11, when her coach sent an email at 10pm to let us know that Mia could not perform with the team for the competition on March 24th because they needed to practice and perform with the replacement for the April competition for an entire month. I did not think this was reasonable considering the substitute had already performed with the team for two other competitions this season and knew the routine. Also, on a side note, the team had come in last place for every competition this season. I felt the coach was penalizing my daughter for missing the competition and that if this was to be the course of action, why couldn't this have been discussed back in January. My daughter went to practice that Monday day but was now told to stand in the corner since she was not going to perform any of the stunts with the team. She was pretty heartbroken over the situation. When I asked to discuss the decision either over the phone or in-person the coached directed me to the cheer director. The cheer director offered to discuss over the phone but then did not call at the time we agreed. I was pretty upset now. I had tried to discuss this situation for a couple of days and I was not making any progress. I also had an extremely upset child who also didn't understand the reason for the change. I feel the coach was bullying her for missing the competition and trying to embarrass her in-front of her teammates. At this point, I decided to remove both girls from the gym. As a long time customer and considering how much we were paying each month, I expected better customer service. I went to the front desk and inquired about unenrolling the girls and the cheer coach working provided the paperwork. She made it very clear that she did not care we were upset and accepted the paperwork. I then sent a note to the artistic team director that our youngest daughter would be leaving the gym and provided him context over email. At pick up that Wednesday, he pulled me aside to talk about the situation. I gave him additional context and emphasized that my issue was with the cheer side of the gym but that both girls were leaving since it is all one company. Based on the way we were treated I could not keep going to the gym. He agreed and said we were welcome back if we ever wanted to come back. I then posted the Yelp and Google reviews about Gold Star and rated the gym one-star. I was then pulled aside again at pickup on Friday by the artistic team director and asked if I would take down the review as it cast a negative light on the entire gym. I stood my ground but did say I would think about it. I will note that they seemed really concerned about the review and not the action that caused the disappointment and the review. We left the gym that weekend but Pam, the owner, asked if we could talk on Sunday morning. We talked for 30 mins or so and she seemed to understand my point of view and said that this situation was a learning/training opportunity for her staff and coaches. She apologized for the situation to me and extended an apology to my daughter. I thought the call went okay. Then the other day, about a month after leaving the gym, my daughter asked if she could head back to Gold Star to see her former artistic teammates. I took her over to the gym during the team practice time on Wednesday. After 10 mins or so the artistic director again pulled me aside and informed me that our family had been banned from the gym by Pam the owner because of the negative reviews. He then asked me to leave immediately. I was a bit surprised considering no one attempted to communicate that we were banned because of the reviews. Appears the apologies were in hopes to get the reviews taken down and nothing more. I never heard from the cheer coach or the cheer director. read more

I bring both of my kids here, ages 1 and 3. They are learning the basic mechanics of gymnastics and really starting to understand it after about a month of weekend classes. We love coach Devon and he is so incredibly good with the tiny kids getting them comfortable with moves and finding substitution moves for my 1 year old to practice since she is still a bit too tiny to do some of the drills. Thank you coach Devon! The intro classes for younger kids are fun and gets them used to the movements that will set the foundations for their gymnastics skills. I like that everyone rotates stations, which means it's a fast pace for kids and keeps them focused (aka not bored). The trampoline and rope swing are a big hit with my kids! I haven't encountered any of the admin issues some other reviewers have mentioned. Everyone has been polite and accommodating since we joined. Overall, really happy with Gold Star. read more

Good classes/camps - hit or miss. TERRIBLE web/online registration interface. SO confusing that they note colors for camps and regular classes. Camp class colors mean nothing other than kids who want to be in the same class but you wouldn't know it based on what you can see online -- you have to call to learn this detail. Colors for regular classes do correspond to levels, however, you can't see that until you actually click on a class and read the fine print? What?!! As a parent surveying classes, should you note the level upfront? Super inefficient for parents to sign up. Please can you consider stating pertinent vs color infor which is irrelevant for parents unless you clearly denote the level before you have to click and read the fine print? read more

My 5 yo and her friends go to Goldstar we've been coming here now for 1.5 years and my 5 yo loves it. She has been with Teacher Nadia and absolutely loves her . The old location in MV was closer to me and this new locations is a stretch since my little one started Kinder . I'm traveling on 101 when traffic is just starting from Oregon Expressway south on 101. Love the space and the smell of dirty feet isn't so bad here like the MV location had. The busy parking lot is cray cray when we come and go so luckily, Goldstar is smart and hired a safety attendant to help kids/ adults walk across the lot. read more

My son is just finishing up for the year at Gold Star. He has had a great year and still loves going to Gold Star. Max started as a Ministar One in September. Gold Star has this Star Week. It's not a test, no stress for the kids involved, but the coaches have them perform the skills they have been working on for the last two months, like bear walking on parallel bars, straddle forward roll, tuck & straddle jumps. They get a ribbon and if they can do all the skills (25), they move to the next step which is Ministar Two. And there is a three too. The coaches makes sure each child gets a few stars. When Max past Ministar one, the Ministar two class was full. Chris the floor manager, who my daughter loved when she use to take classes at Gold Star, opened a new Ministar two class for Max. Max now has two other students in the class with him. Kayla is an excellent teacher, very sweet, and Max took to her right away. Laura who Max also loved still leads the warm up, so now he has two great teachers. They also added some music and skipping/dancing to the warm up which the kids love. They got new carpets put in this year too. They do have things taped here and there, but I think that's okay because they must have figured out kids can get hurt if they don't have the extra foam taped in those areas. Summer is setup differently. You pick a class day and time and decide how many classes you will take. It's cheaper if you take more of course, but very helpful if you know you will be on vacation. I'm still trying to figure that out. Max wants to take a few classes during the summer and maybe a camp too. read more

Pro: -close to home -daughter does enjoy it -If you miss a class, you don't have to give 24 hours notice like other after school activities. -Flexible make up schedule and can register online -Summer options, can attend all summer or pick any 7 or 4 weeks. We did 4 weeks since we travel a lot, otherwise I would have pulled her out for the summer. Great idea. -staff is super nice -vending machine and a couple toys for small kids waiting -lots of chairs to sit on (stacks and stacks in the back-grab one) Cons: -Parking is limited -very very crowded -place could use a cleaning, "face lift" if you will -bathrooms are disgusting and some stall doors don't lock They are moving to Sunnyvale, which is a bit farther but I am hoping the equipment/environment will look cleaner, there is supposed to be more parking and hopefully more general space for the caregivers and children to get ready. read more

We had our son's birthday party today at Gold Star, and everything was perfect, and exceeded our expectations. We've only been to Goldstar once - for a field trip with our preschool a couple months ago - and based on that we decided we wanted to have a birthday at the gym. Everything was made easy for us today, from the service at the front desk to the wonderful assistance from the coaches, to the set-up of the tables/chairs. I was so pleasantly surprised to see that everything was organized and thought of in advance, and having the two coaches help with food set-up, and helping with serving the food to the kids, and helping to clean up was fantastic. Plus they were so amazing with the kids. All the kids had such a great time, and many parents commented on how this was a great birthday party. The only comment I would like to make is about the amount of time for food. We had 90 minutes for the gymnastics fun, and 1/2 hour for the food/cake, which was not enough time for us. I would have gladly ended the gymnastics time 15 minutes early, to allow for 45 minutes of food/cake time. It would be nice to be given the option, maybe some families are ok with 30 minutes food/cake time, and others might prefer ending the gymnastics earlier to allow for more food/cake time.
