I went to Golden Eagle as a kid, way back when. Now that my god daughter visits me in the Summers I have enrolled her for one week out of the two she is here. This is a major change for a 9 year old girl that parents are living/raising her in Costa Rica. She always has a smile on her face when I pick her up, is supper excited to tell me what she did that day and how much fun she had. It makes me so happy to know she is having as much fun as I did as a kid! :) I will admit, it does look like total chaos when you come into that gym. Kids are running around all over the place, but I believe this only happens during their "Free Play" in the morning and after lunch? But hey they are kids! What better place for them to let them be free and run/play like mad than at summer camp! I did not find any issue with the counselor to camper ratio? When I popped by during the day to see how Mags was doing, she was in a group of maybe 16 kids, with 2 counselors. Both of whom were teenagers, but looked to have it under control. As I strolled the grounds I had two counselors ask me if I needed any help and who I was there to see. I liked that. :) Plus I saw and adult walking between the groups checking on things. I gave 5 starts because every time I was there all the kids looked like they were having a BLAST. It made me think back to the days when I looked forward to my summer weeks and Golden Eagle. I can only imagination that running that place is no easy task. But Monica and her son Steffan look like they have this placed dialed. If you are looking for and all around day sports camp with a mix of sports (including swimming) I would highly recommend you give GE a try -- Your kids will come home exhausted with smiles from ear to ear. As a working parents, each summer we are faced with the dilemma of what to do with the kids while they are on break and we still have to work. Last summer we hired a high school student to baby sit. While she promised lots of trips to the park and fun activities, the reality was the kids spent most of the day watching TV and playing video games. At $15/ hour this was costing us $600/ week. Needless to say my husband and I were not happy and the kids were cranky. This summer we tried Golden Eagle Summer Camp because we won a free week in a raffle at the kids' school. We signed the kids up for just one week to start at their Los Altos site. They had an absolute blast and we ended up signing up for the whole summer. The camp offers so many options for the kids that there is no way for them to be bored or be forced into an activity they didn't like. There seemed to be a lot of different choices from tennis, golf, hockey, swimming... Both kids liked swimming the most and significantly improved their skills. My youngest was so proud when she came home with her "Safe Swimmer" wrist band that meant she had passed the swim test and was allowed in the deep end. The camp owners and counselors are terrific too. They were very attentive to the kids and seemed to really have a blast with them. My only complaint was that the check out process was a little slow because they insisted on all parents showing ID before leaving. I guess that is much better than the alternative, however and I know that my kids are safe. We will definitely be back next summer! read more

My kids had a great time at Golden Eagles. They have a great program that that really exposed my girls to so many activities that they were always having fun. After their first week, they wanted to go back, we are now signed up for a third session. What I like the most about the camp other than my kids loving it was that Golden Eagles has a Fantastic swim instruction option. I stopped by early one day and watch my 5 year old in the pool practicing dunking her head, I would like to add at this point that she is not a fan of the water, bath time can be a challenge with my smallest. But the camp was able to get her in and feel comfortable with being in water. That staff is truly amazing, they work hard at making sure that my kids were having fun and that they were safe at all times. Sort of annoying point is that on Monday pick up, I forgot my I.D. to check my daughter up, the sign out person politely asked if I could get my I.D. so she could sign out. At the time I was annoyed but thinking about it later I knew that it was the right thing and I am happy that she was insistent. The next day, the counselor remembered me and no I.D. was needed. I would highly suggest this camp to any and all if they are looking for a fun, safe, exciting, well run camp for their children. read more

My son went to Golden Eagle Sports Camp in Los Altos last year for the first time. I was worried, because every camp I mentioned to him to try, his usual reply was "Not Going". My girlfriend suggested Golden Eagle and when I showed my son all the different sports available to play including his favorite one, Hockey, he was thrilled. We initially signed him up for 2 weeks. One with his best friend and the second week alone. The look on his face after pick up each day was super excited. He love it all. He connected right away with the counselors. Steffan was amazing, especially helping us in the morning going to roll call, when my son was nervous. After the 2nd week, when I expected him to be done with camp, he begged me for a 3rd week. Everyone at this location was warm, friendly and made the kids and parents feel so comfortable. My son is looking forward to coming to camp again this summer! Outstanding summer camp for kids ages 4-14. I was a camper from 2nd grade - 9th grade. The same family has owned and operated this camp since the late 80's. Now that I am an adult with my own kids, as soon as they are old enough I plan on sending them to this camp. Excellent environment for all children. Biggest attractions for parents: 1. Introduction to a large variety of sports such as: soccer, swimming, basketball, wrestling, golf, field hockey and dance. Also has dodgeball, hide and seek, capture the flag, arts and craft, chess and much more. 2. Teaches the basics in swimming via small group environments. Caters to your child's swimming skill level 3. Unique social interactions outside of a school class room environment with children from around the South Bay Area. This is arguably the best summer camp in the South Bay. I have attended YMCA, decathlon, Salvation Army, and various church summer camps but Golden Eagle Summer sports camp is by far the best camp. read more

I have three kids who have all attended Golden Eagle Sports Camp since kindergarten. My children and their friends rave about the camp. The counselors are super energetic and fun and are very loving towards the children. What my children like best about this camp is choice- they get to choose what activities to do each day. If they are into a sport one week, they might do it everyday, but if the next week they want to try a new sport, they simply sign up. It's great that the children get to make choices at camp which feels empowering. The camp also taught my son to swim. I could not believe it. And the pool is safe since all the counselors are lined up by the edge to monitor safety. Each Friday is a dance performance (parents invited) which both my girls love to participate in. We were very happy with our choice. My son attended this camp for several weeks this past summer and a few summers before this summer as well. He loved the camp and was exposed to many different types of sports and other activities. He was very sad when camp ended. Monica was very responsive and sensitive to my personal situation when I e-mailed her. I've noticed some negative reviews regarding the fact that most of the counselors are teens, but for my son this was great because his relationship was different than with adults - he looked up to them and saw them as positive role models, but not as teachers and parents. I know they don't take just any teen, and most of the counselors have been a part of the camp for several years. The pick up and drop off can be a bit hectic initially, but during the course of the day camp flows well and is organized. The kids have fun, learn a lot and are happy to go. read more

Golden Eagle Summer Sports Camp was the high light of my summers ever since I was 5 years old. I am so glad this camp is still going because the experience has been passed on to my niece, who attended last year and is begging to go back. She always had a big smile as she talked about her camp experience: the sports she got to play, the new friends she made, and her favorite - swim time! She's headed back this summer for 5 whole weeks and cannot wait! I know it's a huge relief for my brother, who also attended the camp as early as 1991, and sister-in-law to have such reliable and reasonably priced child care during the summer while they are busy working. This camp has mastered the abliity for kids to learn all different types of sports, crafts, swimming, and most importantly how to have fun doing so all in a very safe environment. An amazing experience for the kids all the time. We've been going to golden eagle for three years now and my children are always excited to show up Monday morning. Stefan and monica really do love the kids they get to work with. The counselors have the same attitude, while they may seem a bit intimidated by me as a parent, my kids always say good bye to them at the end of the day which tells me they enjoy the relationship during camp hours when I'm not around As a parent I'm always worried about my kids safety and during the swim unit I have stopped by and am always impressed by how hands on the instructors are in making sure the kids are looked over and engaged. Sign out used to be my main gripe with the camp but since they changed the system last summer to be faster and safer it is now a breeze For athletic kids with lots of energy this is the place to go read more

Golden Eagle Sports Camp, run by Stefaan and Monica Lodge, has provided an amazing experience for my daughter, who has been attending for the last 3 years. The program is extremely well run, with a ton of sports activities that my daughter can choose on a daily basis. I love the fact that she can decide what activities she wants to participate in. She is so excited to go to her sports camp -- genuinely happy and eager for the next day. We love the Friday dance performance (all parents are welcome), too. And, of course the swimming (highly supervised) is a big hit. My two kids have been going to Golden Eagle Summer Sports Camp for the past five years (since they were 5 and 6) when we visit family. There's nothing quite like it and though some camps have tried to mimic the format, Golden Eagle stands out with its longstanding traditions and offering a variety of sports and games (including some that bring back wonderful memories of my own childhood and you just don't see at many camps anymore!). I grew up in Los Altos and went to Los Altos High School, so I know firsthand that the school is a great facility, honestly, you can't get better than Los Altos High School with the pool, locker rooms, gyms, and fields. This is an amazing summer camp for kids of all ages! I started going to Golden Eagle in 2nd grade, and came back every summer that I could. I loved as a camper having the freedom to choose activities every day, and having the option to choose a different sport every day. I learned how to play badminton and do some wrestling movies, while enjoying sports I already knew like soccer, football, basketball, tumbling, tennis, and swimming! My favorite days of the week were always Fridays because of the scavenger hunt, barbecue, and dance shows. Our son and daughter attended Golden Eagle each summer from the time they were 6 years old, graduating to junior and then full fledged counselors in high school, and they loved every minute! The broad variety of daily activities easily kept them engaged, having fun, and learning new skills. I was particularly impressed with the quality of the swimming program, and the way they taught our kids to be safe, strong swimmers. The overall camp environment was energetic and supportive. The best summer camp ever! I started going to Golden eagle in 2nd or 3rd grade I think, and spent every summer there after that until I left for college. As a camper I remember having the best time making new friends and going to all the different activities like swimming, arts and crafts, wrestling, diving, badminton, dodgeball, the list goes on! Fridays were my favorite with all the competitions, the dance show, and the unforgettable scavenger hunt. My children attended the Golden Eagles Sports Camp and loved it. The staff is very caring and love children. The facility is beautiful. The program is diverse and my children did not feel pressured to participate in activities that they did not want to. My son was signed up for the entire summer for 4 years and would not have missed a day. He has made many friends and is always sad to leave them behind. Wonderful camp for my kids, ages 6 and 8. Active all day with a variety of sports to give them a feel for everything from water polo to tennis to a unique take on soccer--indoor soccer! The best part is this camp has character and fun--there are silly games that have been part of the Golden Eagle tradition since it began that still continue today--my kids can't stop talking about them.
