This is my daughters first time to go to this camp. We enrolled one week only. Surprisingly she loved it so much. They have many activities she can choose from and some she never tried before. She like ga-ga-ball, tennis, soccer, speedball, arts and crafts, tennis, etc. she loved the counselor vs campers dodgeball game. She kept talking about it at home. Only one thing she didn't like, the otter-pop time. She didn't like the taste. Other than this, she had a wonderful time there. read more

We had a fantastic time at this sports/confidence building camp. We registered for 2 weeks but wish we had more. My child takes time to adapt to new environments & once he does he opens up. The counselors, schedule & positive energy really worked for him. The counselors became like big brothers & they engaged him all day. By the end of the 2 weeks, my shy introverted 6 year old was performing a dance routine in front of his peers. Somehow they got him to be brave enough to choose to do this! So awesome & proud of how far he has come. Now next step is to kick the ball at the opportune time or hit it correctly with a racket or paddle. We'll get there :) See you next year golden Eagle crew! We went to a different camp every week, but this was my sons favorite, and the most convenient for me. I wish we had done this camp instead of juggling so many. He loved choosing activities, for each schedule block they can choose from 2-3 choices He was just five, and I was worried about swimming. I observed several times. He was in the lowest group, which they designate with a colored bracelet. They did a terrific job, little kids were always 1:1 in the water. While the head lifeguard instructed, several counselors and junior counselors were in the water, with kids sitting on the edge waiting for their turn, kicking and splashing. The owner/operators were fabulous, such a pleasure to visit with them. They personally run the show, leading checkin, checkout, etc. Pickup and dropoff was easy and fast, no parking issues, although it was so close we could walk. read more

My daughter is loving her time at this camp. She gets an active day of sports with time to play games and do crafts. This is a classic well established camp with excellent counselors. My daughter looks forward to BBQ Friday's. As a full time working mom the before and after care are super reasonable and helpful. We have a had great time at Golden Eagles. They have a great staff and a fun sports based environment. I took my youngest on a quick tour of the site and loved the amount of space that they have. Monica Lodge and her son Stefaan run a fine summer camp that exposes children to an array of sports including swimming, basketball, soccer and tennis. The camp is housed at Los Altos and Homestead High Schools. The camp staff is highly qualified each with an extensive background in their respective activity. The camp also hosts a weekly bbq for its campers. My very active daughter who also becomes part fish during hot summer days enjoyed herself here, spending a great deal of her camp afternoon in the pool. She was allowed the freedom to choose her activitiy --- there were often three to choose from--- which she enjoyed. And, she often amazed the staff by playing soccer or basketball proficiently with kids who are older than she is. The only thing my daughter didn't enjoy about this camp was the extended care --- which is advertised as games, movies and snacks. More often than not it was the last two items. Kids were usually zoned out in front of a movie when I went to pick her up. She found this tough, on sunny summer days she just wants to be outside. And I found it tough to wake up her mental state after an hour and a half in front of a movie. Other than that, I recommend the camp. read more

The student to "adult" ratio is way too high. Other than the few adults in charge, most of the supervision is run by high schoolers which would be okay if there weren't so many kids. (And there are A LOT of campers.) When picking up my child after the camp was over, I could have easily walked out with any child. The sign out system lacks any organization whatsoever. When I had a complaint I was not treated very well. The e-mail response from Monica told me to "relax". While the price is reasonable, there are several other just as reasonably priced camps that limit the number of participants so my son can have just as much fun. read more

Golden Eagle is a great fit for our family. Our kids are excited to go to camp. Kim and Garrett along with all the counselors always have a smile and greet campers and parents warmly everyday. They review the activities list in the morning and in the evening talking about what activities they are going to do. Our kids are very different. Our daughter likes quieter activities and picks arts & crafts, stories, swimming and wrestling. Our son is on the go all time and picks any and every ball sport plus chess. He likes strategy games too. They love morning and after care as they get free gym time and a movie. The variety and flexible is just want our family needs. We love it because our kids get lots of great exercise, learn new skills, socialize and come home tired. They love all the counselors and discuss tell us their top ten lists every week. They each have different favorites but agree all are fun. We are already planning on going back next year. read more

Not sure why this hasn't been published...but here it goes again. The Yelp reviews don't due justice to this camp! One thing to remember, this camp is not for the kids that are looking for expert instruction, definitely more of a have fun and play sports but no real training outside the basic stuff... This camp was fantastic for our two boys. Very relaxed, flexible and fun atmosphere and they both were always excited to be back the next day, right before they fell asleep in the car! the camp was organized into groups based on their grades in school (rather than age, which can create problems) and they participate in activities based on a choice of 2-3 options per period. They loved this, as they were never required to do any one sport (except for swimming). All in all it was a great summer camp and will send my kids there next summer. PS, they are super flexible regarding your schedule...which was a big plus in my book! read more

Still the best! Both of my children had a blast this last week. Swimming Soccer Arts & Crafts Wrestling Badminton Lacrosse (the instructor plays for UCLA!) Water polo Tumbling Dance Each of the counselors that I talked to, all play for the local high school team in the sports that they teach at the camp. And each of the counselors was a camper that went to the camp when they were younger. We saw our daughter dance at the recital that the camp does on Fridays and on our way out we were offered a hot dog that they were cooking up for the kids, another Friday thing. What I thought was great was that we are asked for our I.D.'s when we picked up our children, and then they cross reference the I.D. with the list that we provided them when we signed up. Any changes that we need to make are on there too! What my wife and I like the best though is their swim program, they get into the pool and teach from there. None of this standing on the deck business and instructing from the dry land. We also love the atmosphere that the camp brings out, the counselors get into the activity instead of standing on the side lines. I don't want my kids doing drills and running liners, I want them outside and playing and having FUN! And this is the camp that delivers. On that last note, we have tried other camps, all instruction and no fun. Seemed more like work, practice, and being told that they aren't doing it right. I am not sure what sort of edge they are going to get by being drilled in basketball and then wait for 4 months before basketball season starts up in the school system. read more

I finally got rid of my "mama bear" fears and allowed my "big" in stature, but young in age cubs (lol) enjoy several summer weeks of sports camp with Golden Eagle Sports Camp w/o my presence invading their space to grow and learn. My biggest fear was the swimming pool as a result of my two near drowning experiences that I had many years ago. I also had other fears pertaining to their safety (ie. someone or something hurting them). Fortunately, my professional relationship with one of program directors eased my fear enough to give it a go! It was one of the best decisions I made and experiences for my sons had! The program is structured to maintain safety from start to finish! The kids are separated by age in most activities and/or skill level depending on the activity. They got to learn about and play a variety of sports. In addition to learning and playing sports, the program taught them the value of good sportsmanship, being a team player, the importance of listening and following directions. My sons' established positive peer and staff relationships, their confidence grew, and they became more autonomous. With no hesitation, they will return for a second summer. My two boys love this camp. They went for all 7 weeks last summer. My boys continue to talk about the camp and how great it was. They can't wait for it to start next summer. My youngest learned to get himself dressed and undressed for swimming! priceless. When I ask my older son what he likes best about the camp, he says everything. I can't say enough great things about this camp! I live in Phoenix and spent a week visiting my daughter and grandkids. The girls, 7 & 9 years old, were in camp for the week and invited me to come watch their dance recital on Friday. They had been practicing every night after camp and wanted me to see them perform on their last day of camp. I was so impressed with the organization and professionalism of the councilors. I had a chance to chat with the dance teacher after the girls performed. She is a high school senior heading off to collage on a dance scholarship and it was clear that all the kids adored her. This is our second year at Golden Eagle - Los Altos high school site. It hadn't disappointed. Last year they had a great time, this year it's been ever better. It can seem a little chaotic in the morning for my 6 year old with free play in the gym 9:30 till 10, But that's no problem, as soon as camp officially starts with structured activities, he's off. all the counsellors seem well connected with the kids, they all know my three children by name and make an effort to greet them and make a positive comment. Lack of supervision- you drop your child off to a huge gymnasium with dozens of kids and minimal supervision (looks like junior high/high school kids?). I have seen only 2 counselors that look adult age for hundreds of kids. Since there are no assigned counselors to a child, a shy child will easily get lost as they have to navigate all the activities and periods themselves. It was advertised that there would be gymnastics, tumbling and swimming however at the Homestead location there is no gymnastics or tumbling and the pool has closures. If your child is used to the usual assigned counselor, team building and sportsmanship building this camp is not for your child. I would recommend this for a child with ADHD that needs lots of different activities and energy releasing activities all day. read more

This is a really cute camp. Lots of different sports and summer-y activities for kids to try. I was a little hesitant at first when I dropped off my 6 year old many years ago into what appeared to be total chaos. Turned out he kept asking to buy another week of camp and we have been back every year for the last 5 years! Now that my son is older and is better able to express why he loves it, he said its because *he* gets to choose what he wants to do. He loves the soccer, counselors vs kids games, badminton, swimming, otter pops & bbq day. He learned new games to break the ice and lead other kids' groups at school. I also found that he is less intimidated by new situations, plays with older kids, etc. Learning to thrive in unstructured situations is a *great* skill and safe opportunities to learn/do that are sadly getting rarer these days. My 5yr old daughter joined last year and is now a fan as well. She loves the soccer, dance, chess, tumbling, swimming and watermelon. The little dance shows at the end of the week are super cute! She specifically remembers Doughty, one of the counselors and still talks about how sweet she was. Stefan and Monica, if you are reading this - we are crushed that you are not at the Los Altos High location this year because of the school upgrades. I really hope you are back next year because I just got done consoling two really disappointed kids and it sucked :-/. Keeping my fingers crossed for 2017. read more

I wouldn't recommend this camp for younger kids. This morning I found a girl, 6 or 7, huddled at the front door crying by herself. In the meanwhile just 5-10 feet away, I can see at least a dozen teen counselors focused on their own entertainment playing ball and gossiping. This was not the first time I saw a young kid in distress being ignored. The counselors are not welcoming or sensitive, they do not transition the kids, as I have observed at other camps. My son, 6, found the morning ball and event transitions overwhelming. He was there for over a week, before I pulled him out, and could not tell me a name of any of the counselors in charge of his groups. When a situation occurred one day with my son, the owners got involved and let me know that it was not their policy and they would take care of it, but it happened again the next day. Instead of training or leading the teens on how to address or make decisions, they threw one of the teens in charge 'under bus' in front of me. I found myself trying to discuss and resolve an issues with confusing stammering young teen who needed guidance.. nothing was resolved. The owners admitted that the teen's story didn't play out and was confusing and downplayed the event as communication issue. The place is run by young teens. There is lack of consistent structure, more training and guidance is needed to make this a more positive experience. The main way that teens have been managing the young kids is via punishment by withholding their treats or making them sit out completely on a whole event. When I approached Monica, I found her defensive with semi-sincerity to address the issue, which was suppose to be addressed the day prior. We engaged in less than 2 minute conversation. When we finished our conversation, I went to sign my son in, and she remarked "After all that, you forgot to sign in..." I don't expect that reporting a concern to ever be a bother, especially one that should have been easily remedied. I had received warnings from other parents from my son's class, who attended the weeks prior, but saw all the positive reviews here and now have experienced this myself. read more

We've been enjoying the Golden Eagle Sports Camp and their wonderful staff for the past five years. The very best sign, is that our son simply loves going there and couldn't wait for those summer sessions. Steffan & Monica have been putting their soul into making it a safe and fun camp, I'd even say a Golden community. Their staff, are teenagers that grew up in the community and spend substantial time as Golden campers, so you could really say there's a sense of a Golden tradition there. Not to miss! read more

After hearing about this summer camp a few times in the past, we decided to break the YMCA routine and try it out. Both my very, very active 9 yr old and 6 yr old absolutely loved the program and crowned it the best ever. As a full-time working mom the long hrs were perfect. Monica was super attentive and flexible about different daily schedules to accommodate our needs (shorter days and longer days). The kids got to play a bunch of sports and what they loved the most was the fact that they had a choice between various activities morning and afternoon. They were also very happy about popcicles, and hotdogs on Fridays. The counselors are young but friendly and experienced and the kids bonded with them quickly. Lowlights: one, I wish they didn't give the kids candies as snacks or treats, two: don't count on your kids learning to swim. It was more water play, then instructional swimming classes. Nevertheless, Golden Eagle rocks and this summer we plan to spend the whole 7 or so there! read more
