Using the online ordering option worked so well and as I feeding eight people needed food to be on schedule. Eh I'm going to update my review because it's been many years and things change and this place is okay. It's close to me so whenever we went Chinese this is what we get. We usually order from their website online and it seems as though they always mix what I want up. I'll specifically put the I want a soda free option and they will give me soup instead of vice versa , it's get too be a lot. And some means I like more than others , but that's of course with anyone but they aren't always consistent with the taste. I don't like the rice , I usually pay extra for the shrimp lo-mein. I also don't like their chicken teriyaki sticks but I love there boneless spare ribs. It's kind of a hit or miss at times. They do deliver pretty fast and I think they only charge 1.00 for delivery. The delivery drivers are always super nice as well. But I don't like when you don't want to tip they ask for a tip, I think this is very rude since you're charging a delivery price technically if I don't like the service or you mess up on my order I shouldn't have to tip you. read more

I went for the first time with such high hopes and was slightly disappointed. My favorite Chinese spot has closed temporarily due to a flood issue. So I've been searching high and low for a new Chinese takeout spot. I saw some reviews for this and decided to try it out. I placed a pretty large takeout order ($57)to pick up on my way home from work, placed it online and it was ready when I got there. I wanted to try all of my typical favorites to see if this place would be somewhere I return. I ordered crab Rangoon $7.95 and got extra egg rolls $3.95 or $4.95 instead . I was so disappointed! They nailed the rest of the order perfectly! Food was OK. Not terrible, I have had worse, but I have also had better. Inside was nice, new, clean. I wasn't totally sold to the point where I would come back immediately next time I want Chinese takeout. We ordered delivery. A mistake was made with an item. I called to tell them that we must have received someone's order by mistake, just one item. We were also missing one thing. Whoever answered apologized and said they would be right back with the correct item. It wasn't necessary that they do that, I just wanted to make them aware someone else was getting my food. I don't even know where to begin right now. Based on the reviews I decided to give Golden City a try. Their website says $2 off an $15 order. My order was over $25 so when I asked the lady if she took it off she was extremely rude and said the coupon had to be printed..but their were no coupon's just a general incentive. So I politely said nevermind and went on my way home to eat. I take about 2 bites of my teryaki and pull a BLACK HAIR out of my effin mouth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok I'm 100% BLONDE (I'm gonna puke just thinking about this). That right there was enough for me to be all set. I tried some of my boyfriend's food and it was just not good. AT ALL. I placed an online order and it didn't seem to come through on their system. The woman asked me what I ordered, and couldn't understand when I said "combination plate with boneless spare ribs, chicken fingers, and crab rangoons." She asked me twice, then went back to packing other people's orders and not trying to comprehend what I was saying. It was only when I grabbed the takeout menu and looked at whatever order number (D4?) corresponded, that she said something to the cook and they started making my order right then. I can understand having a language barrier, but you would think that you would know the food items that you're serving and have a little better customer service regarding a lost order. I love to try new places, and I tend to find a silver lining within every new place I try, even if I wasn't particularly fond of the meal. However, with this place, oy! Where do I begin? When I usually order in for Chinese, I usually alternate between the same two restaurants, because they are consistently good and the price is right. But last night we found a coupon for this place, and figured why not try someplace new for a change? The coupon was for $5 off any purchase of $30 or more, but for some reason, they only honored half of it, this was only a harbinger of things to come. My General Gao's was over spiced, and burned my tongue. The chicken wings were over fried, and looked more like ones you would find at the local KFC. The rice was bland, and everything had an aftertaste to it that permeated of bleach. I have never to my knowledge, ever thrown away a Chinese meal in my lifetime until last night, This was without question the worst Chinese meal I've ever had. There are plenty of other Chinese restaurants in northern RI where you can get a dynamite meal for your hard-earned buck. Stay away! read more

I have to say, upon walking into this place I was nervous and had to say a prayer but decided don't judge a book by its cover. The place was unkempt and there was an employee sleeping in one of there booths. The lady taking orders was on the phone so another employee decided to help the customer in front of me. He wanted to double check her order was right but I guess the lady on the phone became impatient and started to yell at him then proceeded to take over in the order herself. Lady, relax, he was just trying to be helpful since you were busy on the phone. This gentleman then takes my order and I give my card to pay. She asks me if I have cash...umm, no. However, despite the machine being broken she somehow was still able to have my card go through with payment. FYI, I checked my account later in case I was charged incorrectly. The food was not great at all. The rangoons, in my opinion, tasted like Philadelphia cream cheese in a greasy fried shell. The rice was decent but seemed too oily and the crispy wings...lets just say I had to throw out my food. I was really disappointed in my order, especially after paying $10. One of our two favourite places to order from at work, Golden City has long been a frequently visited takeout by Charlie & I. Prior to moving to Woonsocket, since they're open pretty late, we'd order ahead of time and pick everything up on the way home (which, generally, is between 10:30-11:30pm). Their fried dumplings are delicious and their chicken fingers are H U G E. Crispy, juicy and pipin' hot, I have yet to be disappointed. Believe it or not, the steamed bean sprouts & chicken from their diet menu is amazingly tasty and actually one of my fav dishes to order for lunch. ...and speaking of lunch, their combos are mad cheap, especially if ordering before 3pm. Think, the same size as their dinners except with soup for a couple bucks cheaper. Also, I've noticed that they're pretty relaxed regarding substitutions & special requests, despite us picky employees ordering like, 10 dishes at once. Kudos to them! The lady that cashed me out was nice and the food was reasonably priced, but you couldn't pay me to order here again, it was that awful. This is my goto chinese place because of the hot and sour soup... Last time I got it, you can tell it was old, and it was breaking down. Which in general I don't have a problem.. Classic every day chinese food, I asked if they used msg, which they claim they don't... I'm allergic and didn't have a reaction so... 2 things that are kind of a turn off is the place looks really run down, they have a raw piece of plywood off the shelf at Home Depot blocking their cooks- in the open kitchen concept and they have children and family members all over the restaurant, not to mention a 8 year old answering the phone . read more

By far the WORST Chinese food I have ever tasted. Went there on my way home from working 6 hours and not having eaten all day. I was so hungry and craving beef lo-mein (my favorite Chinese food) and Won-Ton soup. This "lunch special " cost me $7.00. This is the first time I ever threw away Chinese takeout after one bite! It had no taste or flavor whatsoever. I thought the beef looked kinda "funny," like the color, the texture.... um didn't look like beef at all. I tasted it and the texture was like a cross between leather & bubble gum. It was gross! The pork fried rice was dry, pasty and gummy-like. . I thought "well at least I have the soup." Won-tons??? Um..... I don't think so. They were so gross I can't even describe. Don't waste your time & money. Horrible, just literally horrible food! So this place went down hill over the past few years. 4 months ago I order here. I got the D3 dinner platter. Which comes with chicken wings and an egg roll. When I got back home, I had no egg roll and chicken fingers instead of wings. I was to tired to go back out so I just said whatever. Tonight I called in to order delivery. I swear a child was taking my order. I actually had to tell them to put someone else on because I could not understand them. Finally I told them my order (same thing the D3) and I made sure to say PLEASE MAKE SURE ITS THE CHICKEN WINGS, not the fingers. The ones with the bones it it. And please make sure it has an egg roll since it says platters come with one. Well guess what? No chicken wings, only fingers. And no egg roll. I told the delivery driver who asked to see my receipt. The receipt clearly said no chicken fingers, chicken wings only. He says what would you like me to do? Umm I want you to go get my chicken wings. Seriously? I have ordered from Golden City for quite some time. I occasionally try other places but always come back to Golden City. They seem to make the best chicken lo mein and steamed dumplings around. I enjoy being able to order online to avoid the occasional communication issues. Every so often they overlook my request for no veggies in my lo mein (I am allergic to mushrooms) and I have to have them make it again. This usually happens if they are extremely busy, so I kind of understand, but they are always happy to make me a new one. read more

My family and I ordered takeout from there tonight. We had egg foo young and two orders of dumplings. The egg foo young was very good and unlike the usual greasiness I've become accustomed to; although the gravy was subpar. But let's get to the really good part...the dumplings. They were absolutely amazing and are made to order (we saw them in the back hand-making them). I will definitely be returning to try other menu items. However, I just ordered delivery, and for the first time, a very young, small but loud and piercing voice picked up the phone. I am sure it was the owners daughter or something along that line as I believe I heard her yell "mama" and then some indistinguishable words halfway through my order. Anyways, it was very hard to understand her seeing as she didn't speak english very well, screamed into the phone in a manner that only a child would, and was extremely rude when I asked her to repeat what she said because I couldn't understand. This is my Chinese spot. Give them a call and order 1 item or 50 and you'll hear their signature phrase "10 minute". I've never waited longer. The food is incredible and stands head and shoulders above all other local Chinese fair. The boiled dumplings are especially flavorful when held against others I've tried. The filling is very well spiced and the dumplings are tender. Try any of the standards and you can't go wrong. Large and juicy Golden Chicken Fingers, BBQ Pork Spareribs, Supple and tasty Sesame Noodles, and creamy Crab Rangoon. Larger orders receive two free cans of Soda which is a nice touch and the restaurant is always bustling with friendly staff and family members. read more
