Our family has been enjoying Rangoon for many years. All of the menu choices taste superb, whether dining in or taking out. The food is fresh, always hot, and the sides like veggi fried rice are delicious on their own. Crab Rangoon crispy delicious, Gen Tsao Chicken, sweet and sour chicken, Happy family, Green Jade, and the chicken fingers with brown gravy some of our favorites. If you dine in, it is nice, quiet, peaceful, and the service is top notch. The huge buffet boat is a fun attraction to stroll around and the kids love it. The owners are so friendly and hard- working. When I get tired of cooking, Rangoon is my go- to place! read more

I've been a Rhode Islander all of my life; I used to frequent the former Coach's Pub located down the street from this establishment. All these years, I never thought to try this place. I regret that I didn't do so earlier. To put it simply, the food at Rangoon is delicious. I ordered the appetizer sampler in which I selected the items of: an egg roll, crab rangoons, boneless ribs, and beef lo-mein. I was a bit nervous that the portion of the dish would be small. After all, it's a sampler; however, I feel they gave me a proper portion for each item. It was well worth the price of $11.99. Additionally, I ordered an ebi roll. The sushi was fresh, and was presented well on its plate. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant down the road. I am currently visiting one Chinese restaurant per week in an attempt to find some good spots. This place is definitely one of the better ones that I've encountered in my travels. These people have no idea how to communicate and you will end up with whatever the fuck they throw in the bag and the talk you in circles on the phone after you call and complain that the WHOLE order is wrong. I work in Smithfield and was out doing some errands when I searched for nearby lunch restaurants on my Yelp app. Rangoon popped up as nearby and reading some reviews made me hungry for Chinese food. It was just past 11:30, so newly opened for the day, and I was the only person in the restaurant. It was clean, smelled good and I was helped right away to put my to-go order in. I ordered the fried ravioli (6) and an order of fried rice. The raviolis were delicious and large! Nicely fried on two sides. The dipping sauce was a perfect complement. The fried rice was packed with chicken, shrimp and pork. I was surprised because in other Chinese restaurants, you usually have to order those ingredients at a premium price. I give 4 stars instead of 5 for two reasons. The pork in the fried rice tasted freezer burned. And, the two items came to over $17. So, I'll be back, but not often, lest I break my lunch budget! read more

Clean, Good Food My new local Chinese staple. This inconspicuous restaurant is actually pretty nice. The husband and wife that own the place work really hard to make sure the place is clean, warm, decorated nicely, and serve high quality food. This Chinese food is not all grease. (Friday and Saturday nights) WOW!!!!! $15 per person might sound a little expensive compared to other Chinese restaurants, but there is no comparison. There is one station of food...well, actually, it's a boat. No need for 6 or 10 stations of mediocre food...this is the real deal! Grabbed some take out on a week night. Being my first time here I grabbed a bit of everything. I went and picked up the food with no wait. I didn't dislike anything I got. Next time I want to try some different maki rolls. I really liked their boneless spareribs even though for the substitution cost .75 cents. I was invited to lunch here by a friend who eats at Rangoon every week. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but is very nice in the inside. There is an adequate parking lot behind the restaurant. The service was excellent and the food arrived fairly quickly. We were a party of six and everyone was pleased with their meal. I arrived first and was seated right away. Without asking, mwater glass was filled and I was presented with a pot of hot tea and a bowl of soup, which was delicious. I ordered from the lunch combo menu and had the General Tao Chicken. For sides, there is a very nice selection of options, rather than the usual pork fried rice and eggroll that I've come to expect from Chinese menus. I had shrimp fried rice and crab Rangoon. Everything was delicious! The sauce on the chicken was just right, offering a nice amount of heat and spice without being overwhelming. The hot sake bottle was served inside a tea kettle with hot water inside, which was nice bc it keeps the sake warm, however, it would have been helpful if it was explained that you need to take the bottle out of the kettle and pour it yourself (May sound obvious, but I always get hot sake, and have never seen it served like this, also prefer when the server or bartender pours the first cup for you, which they didn't). I also always get nime chow at similar restaurants, and sadly this one was a total fail for me. There was imitation crab and maybe one baby shrimp inside, greatly overtaken by the amount of bean sprouts. Instead of basil there was a little bit of mint, which I couldn't taste. I think the peanut sauce was literally peanut butter with crushed peanuts on top. I was very sad, bc I love the usual rice wine vinegar style peanut sauce nime chow is served with. I brought it home so I can eat it later adding my own peanut sauce. Good news on the entree- the General Tsao chicken was one of the best I've had! Crispy, and the flavors were popping with orange, ginger and chili. Just enough spice. And the crab Rangoon was outstanding too, crispy and delicious. Oh, and they were out of salmon. I usually get salmon sashimi so that was disappointing, but I don't know if that's a typical thing. I didn't see a sushi chef ever, behind the sushi counter/bar so that was a little odd. (Sunday evening). Overall I'd come back for high quality Chinese food, but not for the Japanese part as that turned out to be lacking at least for me, and today. So I was really excited when I came across this restaurant. I was in Lincoln with s friend and it came up on my Yelp. It looked great and from what I could see it had a buffet! We were sold. When we arrived we were awkwardly the only people in the entire dining room, the buffet made to look like a huge wooden boat sat empty in the middle of the finning room. We both ordered a bowl of soup, wonton soup to start. It was tasty however the broth tastes like a bunch of bouillon cubes dropped in water... and I probably would have forgave that had my soup been hotter. There is nothing more disappointing than warm soup! My meal arrived, the happy family. It was a mix of chicken, shrimp, beef and veggies in a brown sauce served with s mound of white rice. The plate look beautiful however again, not very hot! I am not sure why nothing arrived hot but unfortunately it didn't. The brown sauce appeared to have been cooked down too much, it clung to the ingredients more like a sticky glaze rather than a gravy or sauce as described. It was also a bit too salty for my liking! Wanted to love it more than I actually did. I probably would not be so critical had it arrived piping hot. read more

I have given this place way to many tries. It is right down the road from my house. One time while dining inside I was told by the waitstaff the sushi chef sucked and they were going to fire him because he was to slow. It was said nicely, but still kind of shocked me. It did take about 40 minutes to get two orders of sushi in a very slow restaurant. Next time my girlfriend and I ordered take out. We got two orders of hot and sour soup along with some sushi. Well they put the Hot and sour soup right on top of the sushi. Most of the sushi was warm. I have found the sushi to be not as fresh as I would like as well. The portion size is poor for Chinese. I am not a big eater, but like to have some Chinese for lunch the next day. Golden City is much better food down the road in Johnston. read more

Rangoon Chinese and Japanese Restaurant is a two-minute car trip around the corner from my home in Johnston, Rhode Island. It's a hidden restaurant that does not do a great deal of advertisement, but appears to have a fairly solid repeat-business core of customers. I have only gone in here because I noticed a poster board in the window that said: "Lunch Buffet: $6.50", what a bargain! They atmosphere is very casual, although, they have a beautifully designed teak and bamboo interior, including a nice small sushi bar as well. The owner works his own dining room floor and his family is periodically checking in on all the guests to ensure they are having a quality experience. I must say the lunch buffet is not the most extensive you've ever seen, offering around 16 items, however, it is absolutely delicious. All the food is piping hot and prepared with a lot of consideration for taste of the frequenters of this restaurant. Yet, for $6.50 and all you can eat, there is little to complain about when that is probably what one would spend at a fast food restaurant somewhere else. Although the main room decor is very welcoming the rest of the experience was not. We arrived a few minutes before a party of 8 and were seated directly across from them in the tiny side room of the restaurant. Our server came over and took our drink orders, returning shortly after for our dinner orders. I asked if I could sub a spicy tuna roll for the standard california roll in a bento box as my entree and vegetable spring roll as an appetizer. My father ordered the sushi combo plate and a spider roll, we both also ordered miso soup. A few minutes later our server returns and says no they cannot do the sub, ok no worries, instead I ordered one of the special sushi rolls that was to be served with spicy mayo and crunchies. The server returned again a few minutes later asking if I still wanted the spring roll, yes please. When our soup arrived it was inedible. The tofu was tough and the broth was so salty I almost thought it was made with sea water, instead of seaweed. Then the server brought over my "spring roll" only, he gave it to someone else, even though he asked me about it only 5 minutes beforehand. It was not a spring roll, but an eggroll. I know there isn't a big distinction for the basic Asian food eater, but when I have been to a few very delicious Thai restaurants, and countless Japaneses and Chinese places I expect a spring roll, not an eggroll. It only got worse, my sushi was warm, doused with eel sauce that wasn't written on the menu, and none of the items inside, save the fried shrimp. My fathers dinner was large, uncut pieces of fish with the smallest amount of rice. His spider roll arrived ten minutes after the first sushi platter. The soft shell crab inside the roll tasted fishy (and anyone who knows anything about sushi knows good, fresh seafood doesn't taste fishy.) The rest of our table complained of the food being overly salty, poultry rubbery, and the rice undercooked. I'm not from Smithfield, but if I ever go back it will NOT be to Rangoon. read more

This review is for Delivery. Friday night I expect them to be busy, so waiting an hour for delivery even when we live close by was no big deal. Crab Rangoons: Soggy and super greasy. Much greasier/soggier than other delivery Rangoons I've had. The flavor of the filling couldn't even make up for how much grease they had. It was below average filling at best. Sesame Chicken: I REALLY don't understand why broccoli is packaged in the same box as the chicken because it makes the chicken so watery and soggy! I mean the batter was not even holding onto the chicken and was completely mushy. I understand that they can't be as crispy as in-house because of condensation in the container but come on! I've had much better sesame chicken delivered. Nime Chow: Average. The shrimp on the inside was a bit chewy and strange. The peanut sauce was great--though I wish they had provided more with the order. Pork Fried Rice: Average flavor. A bit greasier than I would have preferred but it wasn't inedible. Needless to say, I don't think I'll be giving this place another try for delivery at the very least. read more

These guys sent me a menu in the mail, so I thought I'd try their place for dinner. Rangoon has a very wide range menu, lots of different dishes to choose from. I liked how they kept Chinese and Japanese dishes seperate. Took me awhile to decide until I finally decided on the A6 Combination Plate: Chicken Tenders (5), Beef Teriyaki (2), Chicken Wings (4), and your choice of either an eggroll, fried/steamed rice, or lo mein. I chose the lo mein since I love noodles in general. Not bad for $8.25. The delivery guy came a little late because he couldn't find my house, but he was nice. As for the food, it was alright for a first time try, nothing too special. I did however not like the chicken tenders. The batter just didn't taste right to me and smelled kinda bad. The chicken wings weren't great either, too dry and were clamped together. The lo mein was good though. I also tried their Crab Rangoon that my mom ordered, those were really good, although not as good as Chef Ho's. For now, I'll give these guys three stars until they can prove me otherwise. read more

NO...NO....NO Recently we accompanied a large party here- to our dismay the food was very very bad. Most opted for the buffet- soggy, tasteless, lacking imagination or significant variety- french fries, watermellon and some other dishes that vaguely resembled chinese cuisine. I opted for the sesame shrimp dish- 6 pieces of little shrimp deep fried with a sesame sauce. It was not all bad but the majorityof the plate was covered with cabbage and carrot shaped flowers rather than food- for 12 dollars, I would have wanted a bit more shrimp. Another diner chose the sushi....I encouraged thinking it would be good- it was decent but nothing special. Service was not executed well- the server had to come back several times to verify our order. Maybe a take-out spot but nothing more. read more

ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS,FRESH, FLAVORFUL FOOD! Rangoon is my favorite Chinese restaurant. The owners Isabel and Andy are hands on so they are always there to oversee how their business is running. They're friendly and incredibly interactive with their guests. If you want a chance to try a variety of their dishes then try the buffet. You'll find the traditional favorites such as General Tso's Chicken, Lo Mein, Egg Rolls, chicken Fingers, AWESOME BEEF WITH MUSHROOM, Crab Rangoon and PLENTY OF OTHER CHOICES!!! If you're looking for good food, options, a nice atmosphere, cleanliness and a staff that knows how to make you feel like you're a valued guest.....then you need to pay a visit to Rangoon. I'm surprised this place is still in business...came here to eat for our first time, there was one table in the dining room and the owner acted like it was such a big deal we didn't have a reservation. We were hungry and ready to order, we tried to get the attention of our server, who was cleaning about 6ft away from us, calling him, saying we were all set, nothing...called out to the owner an hostess, that we were ready to order. The one other table was also trying to get his attention to add on to their order to no avail. Our server finally came over, still several minutes after my husband got up and walked over to get him, the owner stood where he had been, right by the register, and was shaking his head, giving us a very unwelcome feeling. The server seemed like he couldn't be bothered. We left after asking the owner what his problem was with us wanting to order. Wow! They got my order totally wrong for two items I ordered. I called back to have them correct the order. They said to come pick it up. I asked for it to be delivered and they said 2 hours. I agreed to pick it up. I called the restaurant to ask them to bring the "corrected" order to my car as I am on oxygen. The man so "no you come in." I said "no I cannot. I am on oxygen." He came out of the restaurant screaming at me and shoved the bag of food through my car window and said "don't ever come back here again!" I said "I want to speak with the owner and he said "I am the owner.....get out!" Never been so humiliated in my life! AND all the while he was screaming at me at my car window was not wearing a mask! What great little place! Don't let the outside of the restaurant fool you. Right when I walked in I had the best feeling. Greeted by staff with a smile and a hello right away. Not to mention how pretty it is inside the restaurant. Then I went to the bathroom to find an electric fire place running to warm my bum while I did my business. The food was absolutely delicious. I ordered delivery from Rangoon evening. I am very disappointed with this food. The Chew main is so dry. Looks like it was yesterday's and just heated up, the bonless pork was fatty. The duck sauce is watered down. It was trouble food. They really changed. This was a great place with very fresh good food. Now it's terrible and I will never order from him again. Went here years ago on a Friday night, inordinate amount of teenagers there for some reason... they claimed to have a buffet which was poorly stocked and had some real low-quality items. My girlfriend could even get halfway through her first plate and I had to haggle to get a 1/2 price discount since she DIDNT BARELY EAT ANYTHING. While I've discovered RI isn't the best for Chinese food, this place ranks lower than most. read more
