More like 3.5 stars. We saw on social media that they were launching an AYCE menu and thought let's give it a shot! There's no menu posted anywhere (I posted one for reference) so we went in blindly and hoped for the best. Located off a sometimes busy North Main St - there is a parking adjacent to the restaurant as well as some street parking. We got there for an early Sat lunch so parking was plentiful. From what I could tell, it's a decent sized restaurant with good amount of seating. We were seated at a booth and were given menus - we told our waitress we wanted to do the AYCE and she went and grabbed a different menu - laminated sheet with the options you can mark off with a marker. We got a decent amount of options but what I loved was all the additional app/entree options. I like sushi but can't do shellfish so a lot of special rolls I can't consume - so greatly appreciated the vast variety of offerings. For apps - we ordered hot and sour soup, boneless ribs, shumai, crab rangoon and fried ravioli. Portions were good for AYCE as it shouldn't fill you up too much as you're there for the Sushay! My favorite was the ravioli - nice plump and juicy. The sushi rolls were good but I prefer the ones that aren't super doused in sauce. I don't do sashimi but the mister said it's not the best but not the worst he's had. It's def a huge bang for your buck here as sushi can tend to get expensive. Service was friendly and quick. The manager came over to check on us during our meal - which is always nice when management wants to ensure all is going well. There aren't too many AYCE options in RI (only 2 other I can think of) so nice to see another one pop up. read more

Just ordered house fried rice for lunch today (4/10/26). The rice was really bland and seemed to be overcooked. Upon digging in I could see that the rice was two different color tones which was odd. Possibly older rice mixed in. The rice was mushy and not hot. Lukewarm. I've gone to this establishment for years (nearly 7) and the inconsistency has grown. This was my final shot tho. I do not plan to order here again. I paid $15+ for the simple meal but it see they've definitely lost their touch. Prices have gone up yet the quality isn't the greatest. I stopped here for lunch to check it out...I had never eaten here before and I was intrigued. I had heard and read mixed reviews of the place. The menu is really extensive with pages and pages of choices...at the very end, I found the Lunch Specials and I chose the Boneless Rib and Beef Teriyaki combo. It came with pork fried rice (white rice is also an option) and a spring roll (I could had also chosen egg roll or crab rangoon). The pork fried rice was good, not oily, good and light...a good companion to the meats in my plate. The beef teriyaki was a bit chewy, a bit tough, but it had a nice marinade. The boneless ribs were not bad, but they were definitely not fresh they had been refrigerated and reheated for my order. My spring roll was piping hot and crispy on the outside...not bad.... Poor service. I believe they have a nice establishment inside-out however the service is a D grade at most. Wish they did a better job welcoming and greeting customers. As well as not getting upset if we ask questions about the food on the menu or when I get my order I ask for extra sauces or chop sticks. Like why you got to get all flustered because you gave me 2 duck sauces 2 hot sauces and I ordered 10 egg rolls. I am really sorry to say this, because a close friend had recommended this place to us many, many times and I decided to finally try it and was totally disappointed. Food was not good - I am not an expert on Asian cooking but have been to many Asian restaurants and this was bottom of the barrel. The best thing about this place was the young woman who waited on me. I ordered a Scorpian Bowl for my drink - it was tasty, but could tell right away that there was no alcohol in it - it tasted like a juice box you would give a kid - further proof, did not even get the slightest buzz off it and I am not a hard core drinker - got more buzz from drinking a beer and this drink cost approx. $18. Yama Fuji is your one stop shop for sushi, Hibachi, Japanese, and Chinese food. I came here with a Groupon for $30 towards Hibachi Dinner for two or more. The Groupon required us to make a reservation and I was able to make reservations the same day for dinner. There were a few tables occupied, but not too many. The restaurant is huge. There are regular tables, a bar area, and hibachi tables. We had a whole hibachi table to just us 2. We ordered the Steak and Scallop Hibachi Combo and Steak and Salmon Hibachi Combo. The hibachi chef was engaging and did the usual sake skirt, volcanic onion, and throwing vegetables to our mouths. The hibachi combo came with mushroom soup, salad, hibachi fried rice, 2 pcs shrimp appetizer & vegetable. The food was very flavorful and we had to pack some of it to go. The chef did ask us how we wanted the steak and we both said medium, but it came out well done. The scallop, salmon, shrimp, fried rice, and vegetables were cooked really well. The salad was covered with dressing. We also ordered the peking duck to try since I've been missing it. They gave us a good portion of peking duck with the skin. There were 4 pieces of tortilla and not buns that traditionally comes with it so a little spin there. It was tasty though. We had originally ordered the drinks, but we never received them. I guess the waitress forgot and we didn't get charged for them. My husband saw the waitress roll her eyes a few times, but the hibachi chef and other staff were friendly. The food is always fresh and delicious. I have never had a bad meal there. In the late fall and winter, I always order a bowl of chicken soup as a starter. I ask for rice noodles since it is cholesterol free. It is delicious and filling. They are very accommodating with special requests. Just got paid, Friday night... I haven't been to this place in 5 years. One night decided to get sushi so we figured we would try this place again. It was very good. Also got egg rolls and they were so yummy! Cooked perfectly. Fast forward 1 week...we decide to get Chinese from there and of course sushi! My husband got a pupu platter for 2 and I got general Tso's chicken with beef fried rice. My husband got shrimp fried rice but I forgot to take a picture. My general Tso was SO spicy and I like spicy but this was a little much. So I don't think I will be getting it anytime soon. However it was good so if you like spicy I suggest you get it. The sushi was the 7 princess roll! So yummy but sad because I forgot to ask for spicy Mayo on the side. read more

It was my first visiting Yama Fuji, I ordered my favorite traditional Sichuan food, which is the fish fillet with spicy sauce, Chongqing Chicken and two salmon rolls. Salmon rolls - I would be honest the salmon in the roll is very minimum. I wasn't very satisfied with how much fish in the role. Chongqing Chicken - I really liked the Chongqing Chicken! It's well fried, very crispy and a tad sweet. It tastes like popcorn chicken. Fish fillet - I would give it 8 out of 10. It tastes pretty good but not the best I had. They have a huge menu that, in classic New England fashion, is like a greatest hits of at least three country's cuisines. What used to be just a typical Chinese restaurant has now turned into Hibachi too. I recently received an email regarding their soft opening and they did not disappoint. Staff are nice and courteous. The menu selection and prices are of typical hibachi style but also includes the basic and authentic chinese dishes and they also have Japanese and Thai dishes too along with Sushi. The neighborhood can look tough for some and its off a main road but there is plenty of off street parking along with a private parking lot too. Please give them a try, they will not disappoint. WOW ! My family celebrated a birthday here in the hibachi room. There were 10 of us; 6 adults and 4 children. We had the BEST experience. The room is spacious with a full wall of beautiful lighting. Years ago when I first moved to Rhode island i remember Yama Fuji being delicious but these past couple times (once dining in and the rest taking out) have been all around disappointing. I come here for sushi because it is so close but after this last time I don't think I can come back. I ordered the Maki combo, which came with Miso soup and salad, and the Red Sox roll. Everything tasted off, the Miso was bland and just tasted like dirty water, the dressing for the salad kinda tasted sour and the sushi just tasted like it went bad, I didn't even finish the Maki roll because I was afraid I would get sick. We have been here on several occasions and have not been disappointed. It is: yummy, quick, p reasonably priced and the service is great. When we want something delicious that won't break the bank while on the east side, this is quickly becoming our "go to". They also offer Groupon's and during the week for a lunch specials they have an offer for $8, which includes: soup, rice, an eggroll or crab Rangoon and entrée. I'm on a mission to find the best Japanese food in providence. Coming from Hawaii I really miss my fish. Yama Fuji is tied with Nami for places for Americanized sushi. The Red Sox roll and Valentine's Roll are my go to rolls here. A bit on the pricey side but the two times I've ordered have consistently satisfied my sushi cravings. It's not the best sushi quality, but it gets the job done. If you're going to order from here, I would opt for pickup and not delivery. This place is a fantastic addition to providence! For our first course, we had a special app which was delicious. The dish was fresh tuna wrapped around a salad of crab meat and avocado, topped with fish roe. The salad complimented the tuna wrapper and the roe was a fun addition! Since this was the restaurant's new opening, we decided to try some of the fish to check on some freshness - I was pleasantly surprised! We had toro, sea bass, hamachi nigiri and some rolls - the fish was remarkably fresh. Seriously. In providence, whenever I order yellowtail, I am often disappointed with fish that tastes a bit too fishy. This yellowtail was fresh, with the lovely sweet aftertaste that I crave. Too bad there was no Uni (sea urchin) , but the owner said this was because not that many people order sea urchin. But, since they get fresh fish from the seafood market every TWO days (yup!!), I can always place an order in advance :) I have high hopes for this place. They will be adding on hotpot and some Sichuan food for those who crave the spicy! Their drinks aren't bad either! The service: fantastic. Very friendly staff, our waitress was always in the area, glancing at our table from time to time to make sure all was well. The owner also checked on us a few times. Keep it up, Yamafuji! There were 4 other parties in the restaurant when we ordered. The service was so slow you would have thought they were packed. I wish I had timed how long it took but trust me it was a long time. When the food finally arrived, the broccoli in my dinner and another dinner was cold. It was as if the broccoli was added as a garnish and not part of the meal. More like Yummy Fuji! I've had Yama Fuji bookmarked for a long time and finally took the plunge. The entire restaurant was spotless. Only a table of 8 and my table of two were in the building so prompt service was not a problem. Our waitress, I did not catch her name was very friendly. We started with a scorpion bowl which left me feeling pretty nice. We also tried the crab rangoons, sticky wings, pork udon and spicy maki combo. Everything was very tasty. This review is simply for delivery - we were at a job fair and needed lunch to be delivered asap. I went on Yelp and Yama Fuji had some great reviews - and a HUGE menu. It was overwhelming to see how many great types of Chinese regions types of food listed. But amazing to see what we could order in the future! Luckily it was just lunch, but I will definitely be back to try them for many other things! They were pleasant and professional on the phone, said it would take 40-45 minutes - and it was there in 25 minutes!! Always a great thing. We ordered shrimp with pea pods - spicy and it was delicious. Big plump fresh shrimp with mountains of perfectly cooked pea pods in a light sauce with a definite kick and freshly steamed white rice. Wonderful flavor and I had more than enough for a full lunch the next day. A bit more expensive than the average Chinese restaurant, however the dishes and choices you get as well as the quality of the food more than makes up for it. I will definitely be going in there as I am too far away for delivery st home. :( read more

The food was okay, but I'll never order from them again because of the owners/managers attitude. The way he treated me was just appalling. They sent me the wrong roll. Instead of apologizing and making it right, he argued and told me they sent me the right roll. He then tried to lie about the ingredients - but I've worked at a sushi restaurant for 4 years so I know what's what. He begrudgingly agreed to replace it for me the next time I ordered. The next time came and I called to place the order. It was the same guy. Instead of just giving me the replacement roll like he said he would, he began arguing with me again and this time blamed me for confusing his staff - saying it was my fault they got it wrong... I ordered online with no instructions for the roll, not sure how I could've confused them. I got the roll, but after being treated that way a second time, I really had no appetite for their food. They sent me the wrong roll, I was blamed and lied to, and received not one apology. It was a horrible experience and needless to say, I'll never be ordering from them again. read more
