Great place to take kids! I took my kids to the lunch buffet. It was under $8 for the buffet and they got a drink. The kids loved the selection of food and were all able to find something they like to eat. As an adult I thought the food was mediocre. They do have a great salad bar with a lot of fresh options. Sunday AM birthday brunch. Got in at 10:30 but most of breakfast food was already gone. Bummer b/c I've had plenty of their lunch offerings & hadn't had their b-fast in many years. Look I generally don't go to Golden Corrals much back home, the places are too busy for me. I really had an affinity for Country Buffet, which are now out of business. We stayed in Elyria, Ohio on our way to Upstate New York and we needed a meal before calling it a night. My wife insisted on The Golden Corral despite my objections. Anyway, I have to admit, the experience was very good. I really enjoyed the steak which is surprisingly good, I loaded up on fresh and cooked veggies. I will admit the Catfish though good was too salty. The fried chicken looked sad, they recognized that and replaced the chicken with a fresh batch. Unfortunately, I was too full to get a piece. It wasn't too busy, it was this past Wednesday, so I didn't feel the stress of large hordes of hungry folks. read more

I witnessed the "owner" of this establishment allow a woman with a service dog to be harrassed and threatened. A woman yelled at this woman stating "you're going to get your ass beat." for having her registered service animal with her. I told the woman who was right in front of my table to "not threaten her." She then put her fingers in my face calling me "a little white girl who didnt see shit." The woman with the dog was in tears, when I asked "the owner" to call the police in fear for the safety of myself and children he stated "you can call the police." He then allowed the yelling woman to continue to return to the buffet as she walked by growling and threatening me while walking past my table. He then Knelt down to speak with the tables of the yelling woman and another woman who began yelling stating "I didn't see shit and if I wanted it I could get it." These women were the aggressors and he also refunded their money!!! When I told the "owner" I was never returning to this establishment for fear of myself and my children's safety he laughed. The police ultimately charged the aggressive woman with disorderly conduct even after the "owner" told the victim to "not lie to the police" insinuated that she was exaggerating the situation. My wife got a gift card for Christmas and didn't feel like cooking plus she loves there bread pudding. So we go to Golden Corral. First disappointment was the salad bar, no cherry tomatoes whole tomatoes cut in half, the black olives looked about a week old, no banana peppers no bacon bits no croutons no cheese and for the dressing you were in luck if you like Ranch dressing because that's all they had. If you wanted fruit you were out of luck all of the buckets and plates were empty. Bake potato looked like it was a week old and under a heat lamp for the entire day. I got red potatoes cut in half and were good also the green beans were good and had a worker cut a piece of ham that looked good but there was no way you could possibly eat it, dry and tough. My wife's experience was no better, the piece of steak she got was more like leather than she went for her favorite Bread Pudding but after getting back to our table she learned that it was old pudding. I guess the lack of customers explained what the quality of the food was going to be before we sat down. This is hands down the worst Golden Corral I've ever been to and definitely will never go back. After getting into the car my wife looked at me and said if I didn't know better I'd say that they looked like they were going out of business. I'm not a buffet fan. This place is decent. Usually hopping. Even so, those waitresses hustle to keep up with customer needs, and table clearing. My biggest complaint here is the customers. I have no tolerance for kids running around. Yes, I've considered tripping them. Ooops! I also am mystified by actions of full grown adults. I saw an elderly man spoon veggies onto his plate, then pull the plate towards him, hold the veggies on the plate, and DRAIN THE EXTRA LIQUID ONTO THE CARPET. Seriously??? In recent years, the quality of their food has gone down. I use to love coming here to eat, and I particularly loved their fried chicken. On my last visit here, the chicken didn't taste as good as it usually was. I don't know if they are using a different brand or not. Although, I am not a steak lover, theirs is still acceptable. So is the carved turkey and ham. The side dishes are OK..I enjoyed the mashed potatoes and gravy, the corn, and green beans. I never cared for the pizza, their salad bar ( dressings are too mayonnaisey) , or taco station. I hate their ice cream, and I am not fond of their dessert bar (especially the under baked cookies). I wish I could've even give them one star. When we get there I thought it was only going to me around $22. Since it's 11 for adults for dinner and our total was $30 because they charge you for a cup of water. The food was cold and when I was eating the pulled pork there was part of a metal scrubby in it. I informed the manager and they said I would get a full refund and they only gave me $14 back out of the $30 where's the rest of the money you promised. My husband and I decided to try the Elyria Oh Golden Corral one more time after having a bad experience there before. Nothing has changed. Food cold. Shrimp on a skewer raw. Steak could be used for shoe leather. Breaded chicken over cooked and dry. 15 people were waiting for the cook to give them steak when I asked for shrimp which the cook had to get some from the freezer to grill. One person cooking steak and shrimp. One piece of meat was supposed to be prime rib that had been sitting there ten minutes while I was waited for some shrimp to get cooked which was still raw when I bit into one. We were visiting the Cleveland area for the weekend and decided on a buffet for dinner tonight. We decided to go to the Golden Corral on W River Rd in Elyria, OH. We're so happy we came here! Our server was great, I think her name was Ivory, and every other team member we came into contact with went out of their way to greet us, thank us for coming, and made time for small talk. Greg, another server, made a point to spend about 5 minutes talking to our party as he cleaned up and closed the section next to where we were sitting. Before he left, he made it a point to come over and say goodbye, shake our hands, thank us (again) for choosing GC, and wished us a safe trip home. Ivory was hilarious, very attentive and took the time to engage in conversation and banter back and forth with my fiancé, who gets a kick outta giving the servers a little good-natured ribbing, she gave it right back and was awesome all around. The guy on the grill was just as nice and attentive and boy can he cook the most perfectly rare steak I have ever had. It just melted in your mouth The manager, Renee, was incredibly pleased when I spoke to her before we left to let her know how thrilled we were with everyone here (I think she thought I was going to complain when I got her attention)! On to the food! The pot roast and vegetable were moist and flavorful. The pulled pork was seasoned well, the black beans on the fajita bar were perfect. Baked ham, fried chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, and macaroni & cheese were all great as well. Everything tasted home cooked and fresh. Temperatures were good. Let me start off by saying I am not a big fan of buffets. Not that the food is bad in all cases, sanitation however is something else. Golden Coral fails miserably on both. From the tables to the walls to the floor to the door everything felt like it had a film of tacky grease on it. The bathroom was hellish. My luck someone was pinching a loaf at the time. I swear I smelled my shirt when I left, the stench was so penetrating. Now to the food. The steak was horrid. It is marinated in a sodium nightmare. I asked for mid rare and this piece I got was so raw I swear it stood up on the plate and mooed. The veggies were overcooked, the fried chicken was tollerable, and I had a piece of halfway decent fried fish. The desert bar was scarce, the chocolate fountains looked dirty, the area around did I mean. The only good thing on there were the rolls. If you prefer buffets find another. A few friends and I stopped by for dinner. Our steaks were fatty and chewy and the chief was sweating on the food he was cooking. It was GROSS! The Yam was soft on outside but I had to cut it with a knife as the inside was hard and not cooked. Veggies were greasy and soggy. We all agreed, how can someone mess up the salad, well the ranch dressing was like pouring water on our lettuce. OVERPRICED AND UNDERWHELMING. To cut down on calories, we always have water at a buffet. When you place your order, the front counter person will ask if you want a large water; whatever you do, say no. They won't bother to mention that you'll be charged for a tacky 32 oz. plastic tumbler. You'll get that little surprise once you look at your receipt. Avoid the mandarin orange chicken, which is incredibly salty, and whatever the stir-fried beef and mushroom dish was called, it should have just been named "stringy, unappetizing meat you won't want to swallow." Today's roasted chicken was dry and rubbery. The pot roast was good, but the potatoes and carrots cooked with it were like bricks. The seared-to-order seafood was pleasant (nice cook working at the saute station) but slow and small-portioned. The grilled vegetables served with it were good, not great. The pureed sweet potatoes were tasty. Vegetable offerings were standard, plain fare: lima beans, canned-tasting green beans, steak fries, onion rings... Nothing you couldn't have pulled out of the freezer at home at a far lower cost. Fried fish and popcorn shrimp were available, as were fried chicken, macaroni, pizza slices, make-your-own tacos/tortillas, and soup and chili options. The salad bar was well-stocked with choices, and there were several fruit options (mostly canned-looking). Woe to you if you have a picky child who likes their mashed potatoes well-mashed. Theirs come with lots of chunks of unmashed potatoes in them. I didn't mind them that way myself. The desserts were picked over and sparse at 2:00 on a Saturday afternoon. Signage on the tables advertised their Chocolate Wonderfall, a big metal chocolate waterfall that stopped working before we got to our dessert. It was still dismantled and non-functional thirty minutes later, so only one of our party got a chance to try it before it died. They also offered cotton candy as a dessert option, but of course that, too, became unavailable by the time we were ready for any. There were a couple of slices of chocolate cake left, so I opted for one of those. It was unfortunately pretty dry. It was clear that the staff wasn't able to keep up with the demand. If the rest of the chain is like this, it's no wonder several of their locations recently closed. read more
