This is not your normal AYCE buffet. They do offer that but don't expect the large selection and the desert bar. It's honestly a salad bar with 3 or 4 options for soup. This GC offers a full menu, steaks, seafood, fried chicken. You can add the soup and salad for $4.99 I had the prime rib, they're special and it was very good along with the salad and soup. Service was excellent, I was almost immediately seated and the waitress took my order and ask if I would like for her to hold off putting in the steak order while I enjoyed my salad without being rushed!! The salad bar was limited. Spinach had stems that should have been removed. Only one soup plus chili .. 4 soups advertised. The steak was choice at best .. not prime. Might give it a other try for fried chicken or prime rib. read more

I love this GC grill, it's a steak house, the only buffet is the salad bar. They have a lunch menu and buy one get one on drafts, I think it's everyday. The service has been great each time I've gone. It's clean and I think the food is very good. Serving sizes are large. read more

Well it's official the new owners have ruined this place. Tonight we ordered 2 Filets and a Ribeye. Two over cooked filets returned. Sides arrived cold. 18 minutes later took them in a box because my 88 year old mother couldn't take sitting any longer. Just tried to eat whatever cut of meat they gave me. Not overcooked but tough. Thin and tough. Not a Filet. My family has eaten here since the eighty's my sister cooked and cut meat there for years. This is no longer Lake Placid's Golden. It's new ownership trying to make a buck with no on-site ownership. This is not the first time I've sent my food back since the new owners took over. What a shame. Just skip this headache it's hit or miss and the quality is not the same. Follow up: Thought I'd give the new owners the benefit of calling and discussing my meal. "The manager", argued about my cut of steak and other things but asked for my number. Today we decided to go and check out the fried chicken to see if we hat was any good still. It was and my potato was hot and fresh salad was ok. So one of the old bartenders we've known for years served us so I asked what the heck was going on in the kitchen on the char broiler. She said she was sorry about our experience I mentioned calling and the tart manager. Well apparently she spoke to the owner and the owner Called me to pick a fight and 86 me. What a joke. So it's official I was correct in my assumption the new owners lack the class that The LP Golden has had forever. I lowered my rating to 1 star! read more

The service was great. But my Filet mignon was tough. I don't believe that it was a filet mignon but maybe a center cut sirloin. The texture wasn't the same either. Now I know why they are so much less than other good restaurants in the area. The onion rings were good as was the salad. Just not the meat. A Very Pleasant Surprise We hadn't been to Golden Corral in Lake Placid since it changed from a buffet. We felt like steak but having been quite dissatisfied with Cowpoke's in Sebring (the quality of the cooking has gone downhill there and the prices of wine and liquor increased--imagine a restaurant which no longer has house wine) so we took a chance on Golden Corral. I'm glad we did! The steaks were cooked just right. The liquor was reasonably priced. And they had house wine! We now have a go-to restaurant and right here in town. If I had to make one criticism, it's that, although very neat and clean, the lighting could stand to be dimmed for atmosphere. As it is, it's like eating in an old-fashioned Howard Johnson's. read more

Always great service and whenever calling for take out we have never had any problems with our orders being wrong or incomplete. Also the servers always taking our takeout orders are also careful when writing down our orders as we have never had any problems once we got home to find out orders not what we had ordered or expected like so many times we've experience with other restaurants , the GG Server's with the rolls always places the warm rolls into a white paper bag and never crammed into the plate of food. When I call to place a takeout order I am met with a sweet voice, always introducing themselves and asking, how may I help you today? We are so impressed with the complete staff at GG , including the cooks who never unusually are Acknowledged for the expertise and cooking! Been here maybe 9 times in 2 months. Always clean, great servers, food on specials has been very good. Often come as a group of 6 or larger and everything comes out well and accurately. Love the salad bar, good variety and it's kept very neat. Generally order the steak specials at night (pretty impressed with a prime rib special one night) and the daily specials at lunch. This is so much better than when it was a buffet, kudos to new rebranding. Wish we had one near our hometown. read more

Unfortunately, the Lake Placid Golden Corral Buffet,in my opinion one of best in the entire state, is now just an average steak house. Yes, they still have a mini breakfast bar in the mornings for a great price, but get there early for the best quality, No omelets or fried eggs, that saw, just scrambled but you can pile your plate with as much as it can hold. The breakfast meats are done differently with your choice of four sausage links or four strips of bacon. I believe the smoked sausage is either al-la-carte or an up-charge but cooked well done it's amazing and worth every penny. For lunch and dinner there is a small salad bar and soups with limited selections. Only 1 out of the 3 steak items we ordered were cooked correctly but the one that was, the Beef Tips and mushroom gravy was pretty good. The rest of menu seemed underwhelming and reminiscent of the old buffet (meatloaf, chicken fingers and such). Service was enthusiastic but like a lot of places now, they seemed a bit overwhelmed when it started to get busy (never had a chance to order a second beer) and rarely saw our server. If I had, I would have sent my mother-in-laws nearly raw Ribeye back for some more cooking. One more thing, on the weekend during tourist season the too small parking lot fills up quick. We sat at the bar and had excellent service and the food was fabulous! Ate their soup and salad bar that was fantastic, everything was fresh fresh fresh! Had some fried chicken and a beer! I had traveled over twenty miles to try out a new restaurant and it was closed, and I was cranky. These folks were across the street and plan B and I definitely screwed up! They should have been plan Y or even Z! Customer Service- There is not much of that needed here but I give credit when credit is due. The clerk taking my almost $13 for lunch was pleasant enough. The bus person that cleared my plates was pleasant and quick so really no service problems. There was one employee with serious anger issues. He brought out a refill on the mashed potatoes and beat them into submission! His actions were so violent that I overheard someone from a neighboring table exclaim, "I hope he lives alone!" Cleanliness & Availability - They get points here also. My table was spotless as were others I noticed. The buffet stations were also kept clean. They were doing a respectable job keeping everything filled. Food- OMG the food! I'm sorry, it really wasn't food. It was just stuff with calories and lots and lots and lots of salt. I have a business associate that calls this kind of junk sustenance. He also refuses to call it food. About two thirds of it was the proper temperature and the other third was cool or cold. So much of the food has salty sauces and when it's not hot it congeals and that's disgusting! I had a deviled egg whose filling was so strange I can't even describe it. I tried their beef filling for a taco. You know that fast food taco place that is an American icon? Their beef is filet mignon compared to this disgusting stuff! Not a typical Golden Corral anymore. It is now a Grill House. They have a soup and salad bar for $10.99. $3.99 with an entree. All the major items that were on their buffet are now entree. I had the fried chicken, which was very good, but now costs $13.99....add the salad bar and you are now at $17.98, much more than the old buffet cost. Anyway, the service was very good and so was the food. Just not like the TV commercials saying they have a plate ready for you. read more

This business just reopened as GC Gill still under Golden Corral without their original full buffet. They do have a soup and salad buffet for an additional 3.99 with an entree. The salad buffet was good and had an ok variety of items. We both ordered the tips at 10.99 for 6oz they were served over white rice and topped with a brown gravy. You also had a choice of a Caesar salad or reg salad, one side and a roll. For the price the steak was extremely tender and delicious. Next time however, we both agreed that we would not get the brown gravy on top. It was definitely a cheap canned gravy which to us cheapens the meal. The environment was nice but not that of a steak house it was very bright and not classy. We may try again in the future they did just reopen. read more

They've rebranded so not a full buffet. Anymore. Actually so much better! They have a VERY fresh soup and salad bar, that includes hot fresh rolls with honey butter! and a wonderful menu! They're open for breakfast, lunch , and dinner , and offer amazing specials like a $9.99 lunch that includes salad! At breakfast time they have eggs, sweet rolls, hash browns, etc on the buffet. First & last visit to The Golden Corral! We've always seen a lot of cars outside Golden Corrals and have been curious as to why. So while we were in Lake Placid over the noon hour, we gave this place a try. Their secret? A stupendously HUGE buffet. Lots & lots of American food - it's impossible to leave this place hungry. The quality of the food is so-so. There is virtually no service - it's all do it yourself.
