Today is Paczki day at Golden Crust. They are fresh and delicious. They have assorted flavors cream, custard, lemon, apple, raspberry and apricot. Make sure you order at least two weeks ahead. If you don't there are still plenty of paczki in the store. They have several people working so the line goes fast. They have other bakery also. Donuts and cakes are delicious. The crispies are the best in the world, and the biggest too! One cinnamon crispy can easily be shared with 2 other people. The blueberry danish was excellent too!! I never was disappointed with any item that I purchased at this bakery. read more

Came for the donuts and was told we sell out early, well sorry was in the area at a critical doctors appointment so stopped after for a treat. So decided to try something else. The cinnamon rolls were not to my taste, way too much frosting. The blueberry muffins were ok, nothing special. The snuggle was pastry, think pie crust rolled up with cinnamon sugar and walnuts. Everything is so good here. I recently bought a carrot cake for a birthday at the last minute. I was expecting it to be pricey. It cost less than 14 bucks for a single layer cake. It was so good! I'm in willowick and I'm driving to this place! Consistent every time. Hands down blow the doors off of my hometown donuts shop, Biagios. GC does not cut corners , huge donuts with Soft choc or colored Jimmie's. Unlike Biagios who has cut corners and is now purchasing a cheap Jimmy that is hard and crunchy like chunks if big sugar . On a busy summer Saturday, Golden Crust Bakery really came through for me with side-by-side graduation and birthday cakes, plus a big box of custom iced cookies. The shop was so easy to work with, and got everything just right. Our guests all raved at how good the cakes were. Let me just say, you folks who only get big-box-retailer stuff are completely missing out. The "regular" cake was extremely good, but the cassata cake with the real whipped cream icing was AMAZING and people couldn't stop talking about it. And those cookies which we perfect to let people grab and walk out with. Next event you have, drive past GE and the others and go to this local bakery instead. Imagine a giant piece of puffed pastry smothered in walnuts and cinnamon, rolled up, and then drizzled with glaze! WOW! A cinnamon lovers dream! In addition to this we ordered a mini apple pie and two mini pineapple upside down cakes. Had we been staying in Mentor longer we'd have tried one of their many loaves of bread. The first time I had their donuts I said I hadn't had donuts this good since Lakeshore Bakery closed on E 149th and Lakeshore. That was about 30 years earlier. He said, "That was my fathers bakery!" I'm sure all the other baked items in this bakery are great...As everything in the Baker's case looked beautiful and they get great reviews from others but, as a first time customer I ordered a cake that was not made the way I was expecting. It was supposed to be a carrot cake, but ended up being a dense walnut raisin bread, not not cake like in consistency at all, and I couldn't find a single tiny piece of carrot in the "carrot cake" but a ton of walnuts and raisins. It reminded me of a fruitcake density. It also had butter cream frosting instead of that wonderful cream cheese frosting that you expect on carrot cake ... Which I specifically asked for three times when ordering. It was not good and we couldn't eat it. When I called the next day to register my complaint (as this was a very expensive cake for an 8 inch round) I was asked to bring the remaining cake back in so they could inspect it for themselves. The baker/owner was rude and told me this is how they make carrot cake... and implied that I don't know what carrot cake is supposed to taste like. It was not a pleasant interaction, and needless to say, I didn't get a refund. They offered me a much smaller/lesser cost item that was in the Baker's case at the time ...as an exchange/replacement. But I estimate I was still out at least 25 bucks. I will never be buying from them again. Very disappointed in the cake and service. read more

This is a small family owner business that makes the best donuts in the area. They are amazing, fresh and made daily. It's way better than any of the several chains or even mom and pop places in the area. They sell out rather quick and only make so many a day so I try to get in early to have a selection. As mentioned by someone in another review, the selection can be small if you come later in the day because it is all made fresh and to order. This is a local business, not a chain so they aren't wasteful. The family is really friendly and willing to make whatever you like. I ordered a Jurassic World cake from here for my son's bday. It was really good and we got a lot of compliments on how great it tasted. The cookies are yummy too. read more

I lived in Mentor my entire life. Spudnuts was always the "go to place" for good donuts. I tried this place today for the first time. Excellent donuts!! The best in Mentor. Very fresh and tasty. Blows Spudnuts out of the water. Two complaints though, no apple fritters and they open at 7 am (gotta open earlier).. $10 for a dozen.. Pricey but you get what you pay for. Keep up the good work. Was looking for a pie or cake for my family reunion and didn't find what we are looking for. There were two display cases, one was filled with donuts and other was filled with four small "one layer" cakes and 6 single serve cakes. I asked to see if they have some in the back, they didn't have anything. No two layer cakes? Majority of their business was "made to order" and pick it up another time.
