Was excited to give them a shot after reading the reviews but unfortunately we purchased a box of stale donuts. You can't go inside to look at the selection but there is plenty of variety. We will retry later but hopefully we can just ask about what is fresh. They are 24 hours, so who knows when the donuts are fresh... we came in at 10 AM to buy our hockey pucks. This place used to really be something not so much anymore. They are never open and when they are open getting service is like pulling teeth. They have kids in there putting the donut boxes together, wiping their noses, not washing their hands and going right back to handling food service materials. The one clerk in there will get busy and continue to take phone orders as well as play 20 questions with the person on the phone while they have a line starting to build in the restaurant. I don't know what kind of business they are trying to run these days but if you have someone who can't make up their mind on the phone you just tell them they are going to have to call back or place them on a brief hold and then help your customers that are waiting in line. I get better service at Krispy Kreme. While I rarely go to Krispy Kreme, at least I can count on them being open and also having a reliable service and being clean. The selection this last time I was in left a lot to be desired. This place has gone downhill. I've been a customer there for over 20 years, not anymore. Too bad. Love this place! Come here all the time and the guy that had been working at night is always so awesome. Super friendly and we never have an issue. We have noticed they have a couple new people working the window at night/early morning and they're okay. Took a star off cause the last couple times we came by and they gave us the wrong donuts or we'd ask for two and only get one, or they wouldn't know what donuts we wanted(I mean we asked for items on their menu, the people just didn't know what kind of donut it was I guess) so that's a bummer. Best donuts in Anchorage! These donuts are moist and rich and have such good flavor! I was visiting from out of town and didn't get a chance to get there as often as I'd have liked but the first time I went I got a French cruller and a double chocolate. The next time I got a glazed and maple. The glazed and French cruller were light and airy and melted in your mouth. The maple and double chocolate were thicker (but not wad up in your mouth thick) and were rich. This is a must stop if you're in Anchorage! read more

Someone brought a couple of boxes into work yesterday and I ate one...wow! I wish I knew the exact type of donut but I think it was a sour cream with coconut. This was one of the best donuts I have ever had and I have had a lot of different donuts. The texture of the donut was perfect, a crispy sweet exterior and a soft pillowy interior. Even the way they did the coconut topping was amazing. Normally folks just dip the top in coconut and the coconut is a bit dried out. This topping had a thicker layer of glaze and the coconut was more incorporated into that glaze. It set very nicely-not goopy at all. So sad they are closed Monday, I really wanted my boyfriend to try one. read more

I love the doughnuts and the people. Service is outstanding and the people are friendly and helpful. Check hours and days of operation, as they occasionally deviate from the schedule for holidays. Their shop is currently open and drive-through has never been affected by COVID. Best to call ahead for large orders, which can be prepaid and picked up at the back door. Having lived on the east coast where there are delicious donuts a-plenty (and no, I do not mean Dunkin' Donuts), this place isn't anything impressive. However I find myself going there at 10:00pm on weeknights like it's an ex-lover I just can't stay away from. Which is what tends to happen when a food or drink place is regularly open late in Anchorage. Being a 24 hour place, the quality of the donuts really depends on what time of day you go. Later at night they tend to be not as fresh and not as many varieties available. Can't say anything about the quality of donuts during the day since that's when I go elsewhere for pastries. Don't go in excepting customer service. It seems like all the front counter employees are young high school/college kids waiting for their next weed smoke break. And as such, it attracts the same kind of customers. The only time I see this place getting a lot of business is around midnight when a bunch of guys go there to play video games on a TV from the '90s. Which is fitting because the interior seems at least that old. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to stop here. It's only really worth the stop if you happen to be on Tudor late at night and have a donut craving. read more

Sooooo disappointed. The kids and I wanted to try your donuts as we have never been to Golden Donuts. We usually hit up the Kobuk or Carr's for their donuts. We got a French cruller, a sprinkled cake donut and a filled chocolate donut bar. The filling was so overkill sweet, it was over stuffed and just gross. The French cruller was soggy in the inside and not to mention it tasted NOT FRESH. I really expected fresh donuts. Worst 5 bucks I've spent in a while. We tossed the donuts after a few bites. The cake donut wasn't bad, but there's no freshness to it and the service was not at all the friendliest as I'd expect a smile and a hello when we walk in.... I had to do the greeting. This place is gross to me. I mean, I'll try some places that might look a little dicey every now and again. When a place looks like a hole in the wall from the outside and you wished you'd not gone inside, that's when I trust my gut and say no thanks. It's on the corner of lake Otis and Tudor. When you walk in there's a curious smell before you open the second door. It's spacious for a donut shop in my experience. Ambiance was dark and dank and there was a homeless dude chilling in a booth with a coffee, newspaper and a thousand used napkins spread over the table getting whatever off his face and beard. The donuts really are golden. Hence the name. They are really ugly looking donuts. If you think you're going to come here and see beautiful pastries, donuts, yummy looking bear claws, and vibrant sprinkles, give up on that notion immediately. The husband and I found that you have to actually ask what some of the donuts are. When we got them home husband enjoyed his choices. He said they were light and not overly sweet. My experience was so so. The barely glazed, sweaty donut did not hit the spot. Maybe I might try again really early in the AM when they are fresher. I prefer local donuts shops to chain donut businesses...I mean...who doesn't like supporting local business? This has been a go to spot for my dad & I to get donuts since I was a child. One of the many things I love about Golden is the size of their donuts. Many donuts sold in Anchorage seem to run small. But they actually have those 'Brawn Hilda' braided shaped donut twists. It totally reminds me of one of those braids those large Scandinavian women wear...you know...the opera singing ladies that look as if they're straight from Viking country. My dad & I love those. For the price they charge, which is around $12 a dozen, they give you a generous amount of donut. Not just in quantity, shape, and size....but in flavoring as well! They truly are the best. If I could order a truck full of donuts and have them leave it all on my lawn, I would have Golden do it. read more

I got there at 8pm, so I wasn't surprised to learn they were out of the kind I wanted, so I tried a variety. None of them really impressed me. I thought they were kinda pricey given the mixed quality. Maybe it's just my personal preference.... But I was kinda disappointed with some of the donuts. I've been craving doughnuts for a while, and since there aren't many doughnut shops in town we thought we'd try this place out. Many of our friends have been raving about it too. At first I was perplexed by the building it self. This establishment appears to be located in what may have been a bank with drive thru lanes. I'm pretty sure it must've been a bank at some point. But anyhow the donuts were pretty good. I rate this 3 stars because for a doughnut shop I expected a very fresh donut, the kind that's light and fluffy,warm, and the glaze just drips off the doughnut, making a party for your taste buds. What I got was a soft but cold donut and the glaze was just crusty more than anything. The glaze also looked yellow.....I don't know if that's normal, but I still enjoyed and devoured this thing before we even left the lot. I don't know, I guess I was hoping for something more. I'll probably check it out another time. The prices are reasonable and the service is nothing remarkable but still a decent doughnut and worth giving this place a try. read more

Ok so I have been here many times now over the years. The service has never been great. Usually a little attitude from the girls behind the counter. ( I usually walk in) I always would choose one of my usual go to choices of either a blueberry cake, apple fritter, or a maple bar. I never tried the maple triangle. My nephew recently had someone gift his company doughnuts all at one time from 3 different places for him and his crew. Dinos, Krispy Kreme, & Golden Doughnuts. My husband asked him who had the best because he knows I loooooove my doughnuts. He said hands down Golden Golden Golden Golden. Now my nephew never really voices his opinion like this so this got my attention. Why was his soo good and mine weren't. Apparently I was getting the wrong doughnut!! So my husband has been in the hospital so on my way home yesterday I decided to stop and treat myself to this maple triangle doughnut that he wouldn't stop bragging about. I came by at the perfect time. It was about 9:35pm. And the girl in the drive through was super super nice. She gave me a big cup of water for my parched puppy and told me that the maple triangles had just been finished being made and they were still warm. I did not make it out of the parking lot. Let me tell you. It is hands down the best doughnut I have ever had. Seriously. It's filled with like a marshmallow whipped cream and it's not too sweet. It's just absolutely delightful. Love their donuts! We always get enough to bring back to Fairbanks with us for later in the week when we visit Anchorage. The location can be a little hard to access with the funky traffic pattern, but completely worth it. I love their large variety of filled donuts, including many jelly style. They use a golden glaze to coat their donuts- hence their name. These are a light and fluffy donut, vs a more dense donut style over all. Super happy with them. This used to be the best place in Anchorage to get doughnuts, day or night. Now, it is the absolute WORST PLACE. This is a doughnut shop that has doughnuts, only sometimes. Went in at 7:45pm for after dinner doughnuts, there was about 3 trays of doughnuts. They were ones even my kid didn't want. We were told they would have doughnuts later. If you are going to be a late night doughnut shop, then for heaven's sake have doughnuts. The time before we settle on what they did have and my son ended up with a raw doughnut. His bit look like a melted cheese filled doughnut. We threw away the entire dozen after that. HORRIBLE customer service. Donuts were OLD and STALE....!!!! Since the display selection was very minuscule I asked if they had any fresh donuts in the back and the counter person said that the donuts on display were the ONLY donuts available. It was 9pm at night and there were very few selections. I asked about the donuts I could see in back and she said they were NOT available until the donuts in the display case were gone. I asked if they were fresh and she said they didn't sell day old donuts. I asked again why I could not get the ones in back and she said that the boss would fire her and she wanted to keep her job. She said if the son of the owner were there that he would allow selling the ones in back, but the owner won't. I told her any other donut place would be happy to sell the most very fresh donuts in back. I asked again are you sure these are fresh and once again she stated, "we don't sell day old donuts." Well I ordered a dozen and while they were not technically a day old they were most likely 23 hours and 59 minutes and 59 seconds old. They were all old and stale and a total waste of my time and effort including the $15.80 I spent. read more

"mmmmMmm", "wow", "these are awesome!", "Eric, you the man!" But Golden gets all the praise. I'm going out on a limb here and calling it... best donuts in town. So reviews have mentioned the staff and I want to chime in. It's a family-owned business and the lady who takes our order is always very nice, but task-oriented. I love this place. Its open 24/7 a huge help when I am well hung over or still drunk. I live in walking distance so its safe to walk. Normally I don't go drunk but I do go hung over.
