We booked the most popular 2.5 hour Golden Gate Park tour with the Electric Tour Company on Saturday 1/25/2020 at 2pm. Our guide was Johanness. He was GREAT! I got a confirmation call and an email. The email said to arrive 15 min early. It was easy to find the pop-up starting point across from the entry to the Japanese Tea Garden. The check in was easy, expectations explained and we were all introduced to the Segway, helmet required, radios and safety vest. We were all beginners, but had lots of experience with other "wheeled" modes of transportation. It was easy to follow the instructions. The 30 min training is included in the time of the tour. Once we completed the training we took off at a perfect beginners pace, practiced stopping using the radios and operating the Segway in a group. The tour was beautiful, the guide very knowledgeable and it was the perfect amount of time, we took a walking break after an hour and couldn't believe how good it felt to get off and move. I grew up in San Francisco, but now reside in NYC. Bringing my BF to my hometown for the first time, I was the perfect guide! Gave him a dose of local life, while covering the bases with the touristy stuff. GGPark is a lot of land to cover though and I didn't want to tire him out with excessive walking (plus you know most folks aren't used to walking our SF hills). Leaving it up to the pros, this segway tour was the perfect way to introduce him to the park! We were both first timers on segways, so we got the white helmets. The training and practice before the tour was timed perfectly. I was antsy and anxious to start the tour, though a bit nervous as well, but once we hit the road, we became pros in minutes. It was so easy! Two-and-a-half hours covered the training and the tour. It was just enough. We covered a lot of the basic sites. Standing and balancing on the segway was actually more painful than I expected, so it didn't need to be any longer. Leonidas (Nathan) was our guide. Personable, friendly, and funny. Beautiful fall day, eventhough a bit chilly. This place is prepared. Excellent training, safety first. We had a blast. They even provide best, gloves , jackets and hats. Headphones were used to listen to our guide. Nice and toasty we took off through Golden Gate Park and the best Segway trip ever! I have done a few Segway tours and this by far was the best experience of them all. The Golden Gate Park Grounds are beautiful and you even do some off-roading so you aren't just next to a bunch of cars. You have a headset and learn about the area. My son and I learned 4 new facts we didn't know previously. The Goddess of Cali was a great tour guide!! I can't recommend this tour enough. VERY good value for the cost which wasn't bad at all. I am glad I could give my 500th review about a very special business. I loved our trip with Golden Gate Segway. I've done Segway tours all over the world, and all over California, and this one had, hands down, the best training. I'm so glad it was the very first Segway tour we did. The later tours were not nearly as detail oriented about the trainings- which, for client safety, are very important. Segways don't look it, but they can be dangerous- so safety is of prime importance. But the tour was a lot more than just an excellent way to learn how to safely ride a Segway. I don't think I've ever really explored Golden Gate park- but this trip helped me cover a huge amount of territory in a short time. I loved everything I saw. It was moving (the AIDS memorial) and beautiful, and fun (Janis Joplin's tree!). And I wish ALL Segway companies used headphones. Our guide was great, and I loved being able to hear him. Thank you so much for a memorable trip, and for safety lessons that will last me a lifetime. read more

I highly recommend this tour when you visit The City. It's a great way to explore the Golden Gate Park and riding a Segway is just plain fun! The staff was super friendly and provide a nice tutorial to quickly become an expert at riding a Segway. Johannes was a great tour guide! He was funny and engaging and a blast into the past with knowledge of what it was like to live in SF during the summer of Love. We totally intend on doing the Chinatown Segway tour next time we visit SF. I recommend you wear very comfortable shoes. Tip: Leave time to find them if you've never been to Golden Gate Park before. It's kind of a cluster. Tip: Dress in layers including gloves if you have them. It's colder than Dick Cheney's empty chest cavity when it's not sunny. This was my third Segway tour and I think I would have enjoyed this much more had I not seen far more interesting locales on a Segway (hands down the best way to see Washington DC). While it was cool to roll through Golden Gate Park, there really isn't all that much to see. Our guide, Joey, was fun, cute, and knowledgeable about both the park and the city in general. He took pictures of the group with the official tour camera and our camera/smartphone, even offering at certain times. (That's really key, nothing says "I don't want to be your f-ing photographer than not ever offering to take anyone's picture.) We got to do some off-roading, see a large chunk of the park, and get some great memento photos in about three hours. Bonus: Pictures are uploaded on Facebook within a day or two, no hassles about buying "official" photos from the vendor. A nice touch. Don't misunderstand me, I really enjoyed it; I'm just a harsh grader and compared to seeing DC or the Atlantic Ocean from a Segway, this isn't the most exciting tour around. read more

Fantastic!!! If you've never done a Segway Tour before, try this one! We've done several things through the Groupon offers (Indoor sky-diving, Go-Cars, flying lessons), and this was the best so far. Our guide, Devin, was hilarious, knowledgeable, and fun, and the area is beautiful. Beforehand I was so worried I'd fall off the Segway, but they give you a class before you set off and buy the time you leave, you feel like a Pro. I wish we were doing it again today. We're going to sign up for the tour down Lombard Street next! A couple of other nice things about this particular tour is that there is a huge parking lot nearby, bathrooms, and lots of food vans right next to where you start. Give it a try! 4 of us did the GG Park Segway tour this morning. One of us had done it before, but the other 3 of us were newbies. Gah - this was SO much fun!! Devin was our tour guide, and he was very fun, and very informative! I've been to GG Park many times, and I saw a number of things that I'd not seen before, or known about. (Who knew McLaren was a tiny dude?) We got to go off-roading on the Segway - that was a lot of fun too! Absolutely recommend this tour - these guys are great, and it's a lot of fun! It certainly is a different way to get around, but by the end of the orientation, I felt confident to ride around the park. We really enjoyed having Sierra guide us through the park. She was great! I love segway tours. Whenever I have a guest visiting SF I take them segway'ing. Yes, it's super cheesy, and we look like a bunch of dorks, but it's easy, fun, and we cover so much more ground than walking. Brian was a great guide. Sometimes the tour guides talk your ear off in the little headsets we ride with, but Brian mostly used the headset for safety, and talked to us without the earbuds each time we stopped. Perfect. I don't usually like touristy info, but Brian's info was actually pretty interesting, and often funny. read more

As SF locals, my husband and I frequently see the tourists on segways and have always wanted to do this for some absurdly dorky reason. We finally did, and it was as weird as you probably expect it to be, but also pretty fun. It was a nice way to scout out Golden Gate Park and see all the spots we could go to or check out at a later date. We also got a bit of a history lesson that I never would've taken the time to learn otherwise. Overall, it was a fun bucket list item to check off, but nothing crazy exciting to write home about. They do a great job for what it is, but what it is is... you know, touring Golden Gate Park on a segway. ;) Sidenote: It probably helps if everyone in your tour embraces the dork-factor. Our tour was full of people who were either a.) too cool for school (which is impossible on a segway) or b.) kind of mousy and quiet, so it was hard to really get into the spirit. Bucket List Item Checked Off So much FUN! Good solid training in advance still had us nervous, but once you get going confidence sets in. We looked like baby ducks in a line behind our leader, Bailey, who was somehow able to ride while speaking into his microphone that we were all wired to hear, all while constantly checking to make sure all 10 of us were behind him, as well as being meticulous about crossing the streets, allowing cars to go first. Great way to see and learn about Golden Gate Park! Must have closed shoes to ride, which I didn't, but they are equipped to lend fashionable black crocs to unprepared guests, and also had gloves and extra jackets for everyone who wanted them. We all had yellow human highlighter vests we were required to put over our clothes, so don't spend too much time worrying about what to wear. I'm sure immediately afterwards everyone on this tour checks on the price of owning a Segway, as we did! read more

I would like to be able to write a review of this experience, but was never able to get in contact with them to use our Living Social vouchers. The phone number that they use for these specials just rang and rang and rang and then disconnected me. I tried over 20 times to make a reservation and it was impossible. I contacted them today and spoke to the general manager and she basically told me that she didn't believe me and that nobody else had experienced an issue with making reservations. Very poor customer service on their part. Not willing to try to make it right and acting like it was my fault that their system didn't work. The segway experience may be good, but I would never buy a Living Social or Groupon deal from them. As other reviewers have said, the restrictions are many and strict. Make sure you read the fine print. read more

Got a follow up from company, it seems the limit was disclosed in the fine print, i just missed it. would have been nice if someone from the company would have worked with us over the past few months to find a solution to overcome this restriction instead of just saying "nothing available - try again later." Awesome tour! I had a lot of fun and our guide was very knowledgeable. We bought a living social deal for this tour so it was $35 pp. (what a steal!) This was my first Segway experience and I'm looking forward to doing more in the future! Our tour was at 11:30am. Luckily it was sunny out, but it was still cold. You actually can go pretty fast- like at least 10 mph, so dress warm. I didn't need to use gloves, but I did have a heavier jacket on. The training shows you the basics and the guides make sure you're comfortable with operating the Segway before leaving the training area. The Segway is nice because you get to see the entire park without having to walk. They give you headphones, so you also learn a lot about the history. The tour lasts for about 2 hours and you get to take a couple of breaks along the way to enjoy the scenery. Make sure you use the bathroom before leaving for the tour. I booked this a bit last minute after procrastinating. They had no problem fitting us in. The instruction page gives stern warnings about being late and losing the reservation and the fee. We were stressing about that all the way from Union Square to Golden Gate Park (our tour site). Be prepared for nearly an hour-long commute if you are coming from the downtown area. Once there we saw why they emphasize the time. They give one-on-one instructions and then group instructions and drills to get everyone ready. It's a good thing because once on the tour, it felt very natural to be on the Segway. Our guide was Aaron and he was phenomenal! He was funny, informative and very relaxed and good-natured. I loved seeing so much of the park and getting so much informaion as we went along. We never would have learned so much and seen so much on our own. This job is made for him - he was knowledgeable about GGP and all the hidden gems within our beautiful city park. The staff are courteous and friendly, ensuring safety and security as their top priority. It was a gorgeous Sunday with limited vehicle traffic. We're definitely doing the advance tours next time around. I grew up in the city at Ocean Beach when Play Land had shutdown forever. I made what was left my own little circus, yet I've never experienced the inner secrets of the ponds, theaters, nursery, rose garden, and historical statues of GGP. I loved the story about Janice Joplin on Hippie Hill playing her music. Dane took us on some off-road trails, and made us feel like pro's! There is no better place than Golden Gate Park to try a Segway for the first time. The ride is on scenic paths away from vehicular traffic. Time is spent individually and as a small group in "driver training" and when we started the tour we were immediately having a good time. We covered most of the east end of the park. Our guide Trish communicated historical park trivia with great enthusiasm. My visiting relatives and I visited the Tea garden and museums of course, but the Segway tour is what will be remembered as a highlight. Great fun. P.S. After all the walking that is inevitably done in the park, being propelled up and down the beautiful paths for several hours by an electric motor is very easy on the old bones. read more

Blake was fantastic! He is highly knowledgable about the city and park, plus has a fantastic personality with a slight geeky side (über plus). He also added a bit of humor to break the ice and smooth over an embarrassing fall I had during the training. Riding the Segway was highly intuitive once you got the hang of it. The first 20 minutes or so of the tour is actually a Segway crash course where you learn not only how to properly ride it but also how to handle yourself if you end up in some odd situations (booty stop, etc.). I went with my dad and step mom and we had Sierra as our guide. It was about 2.5 hours for the whole experience including orientation training, a 6 minute safety video and general riding on the parking area. I found the Segway to be quite easy to pilot after a few minutes experience and indeed completely natural to use and stop on a dime after about 30 minutes. Be aware you need to be at least 100 lb to operate it properly and my step mom is 105 and he had a little trouble.. Sierra is quite simply the best possible tour guide I've ever had bar-none. She's cute, cheerful, perky, and she sings, does poetry and tells a lot of Segway puns. She knows literally everything about the park and the various landmarks and she basically turned what would be an amusing time into a real blast read more
