An old-looking part of Covington holds this gelato store. Seems like they're making things fresh. They didn't actually label their gelato, so I had to get the flavors explained. They had a good mix, including the all-important mint chip as well as some classic fruit candy flavors. The goat cheese and blueberry delivered a robust flavor mix. My mint chip had the sort of fine bittersweet chocolate flakes one gets from Italian places. And for the quality of gelato I got, it was a good amount for the price. Several months ago, someone recommended Golden Gelato to my husband in the line at the supermarket when he told her we'd only just moved into town. When we walked by the other day, I stopped in on impulse. There are very many tempting flavors in a selection of sorbets that are vegan. The Biscoff gelato called out me and I ordered a small cup. What a great place for speciality gelato! We randomly found this location, so we decided we had to stop for a visit. As we approached, we realized it was almost closing time but there was still a line (always a good sign). The line moved quick, and we were happy we waited. They sell three different sizes. Small allows one or two flavors, and the medium and large allows up to three flavors. If it's your first time, get a couple options to find your favorite. One callout I'll give is that they offered two vegan flavors! One was dark chocolate, and the other was lemon. I didn't ask if the rotate flavors, but one would assume? I'd 100% go back! If you are a gelato fan, then give this place a try. We were pleasantly surprised. FYI, I believe the prices were $4.25 for small, $5.75 for medium, and $6.75 for large. ENJOY! read more

Golden gelato is a new addition to the fast-growing Covington neighborhood. I stopped in for a sweet treat after my birthday dinner and so glad I did! The shop itself is decorated beautifully with lots of plants and a few options for seating. The menu features lots of specialty coffee drinks in addition to the gelato. Drove over from Cincy for a sweet treat. Cute little place with plenty of parking across the street. The owner was so polite and explained the different sizes to us. Due to all the options sounding great, my husband and I both decided on a small with 2 flavors. I had the Stracciatella, which the owner told us what the name meant, with Alchemy Espresso. My husband had the Strawberry Balsamic & Blueberry Sorbet. All 4 flavors were great! And eating with a smaller spoon made it last longer, which was even better! My friend mentioned a new gelato spot had opened up in Covington and tempted me to try it with pictures of her order. It's a nice small storefront and parking was easy to find. There were a few people inside when I arrived so I waited outside as people exited. I ordered a medium which gave me the option to choose up to three flavors. I picked salted caramel, hazelnut and stracciatella (chocolate chip). My favorite was hazelnut hands down. The owners are super nice and put a lot of love into their establishment. I guess this is gelato, or a reasonable facsimile. It seemed too sticky and heavy compared to gelato I've had in Europe. Not much of a flavor selection either. The chocolate was extremely chocolatey and the strawberry didn't have much strawberry taste. Service was friendly but slow because the product is so sticky and hard to scoop. The ambiance isn't great; the store window faces a parking lot. They have more seating in back but it doesn't seem like they want you to stay there. Honestly, around here I would just go to Graeter's. Better selection and better taste. I'll wait till Europe or a bigger city for gelato. read more

What. A. Delight. A friend and I went for a run around Covington yesterday and decided we wanted to ruin our workout by ending it with some Gelato from Golden Gelato. I think this may be my new favorite spot to snag a sweet treat. The storefront is small and currently there is no indoor seating, but this is THE spot to grab a treat to take on a walk around Covington (or snag the small outdoor table). One of the owners was working and it was clear they really put their heart into the business. The store is clean and attractive and the gelato flavors all looked amazing. I opted to get a medium so that I could try up to three different flavors in my cup. I went for the espresso, salted caramel, and blueberry mascarpone. The blueberry mascarpone was my least favorite of the three, but all were delicious. The espresso and salted caramel... wow.
