Went to Hello Honey with a friend for the first time today and it was excellent! We ordered a single scoop of banana honeycomb in a waffle cone and a single scoop of cookies and biscoff in a cup. We both LOVED our ice cream, and the flavors were present without being too sweet or overwhelming. Their waffle cones are homemade and it was honestly the best waffle cone I've ever had- the contrast between the warm waffle cone and the cold ice cream is indescribably amazing, and I hope I get to experience it again soon. It was around $13 for the two of us combined. The inside is cute, but the plants could use some TLC- all of the plants were halfway to death and most still had the tags on from the store, which made me sad. We waited behind a family of four in full indecision crisis and a woman who had to have sorbet explained to three confused kids. All in all, we had plenty of time to plan. There are now 3 locations in Cincinnati and I believe one in Kentucky, but Hello Honey still comes across like a small slightly quirky boutique ice cream shoppe. It's larger than it looks -- there's a small counter as soon as you walk in, but it does open up to solid thick wooden tables for a comfortable sit-down experience. The downtown branch is in the same building as World Cinema Cincinnati, which is convenient in a variety of ways: movie-goers often stop in for ice cream before the film, the World Cinema allows you to bring the ice cream into the movie, and the inside door that can lead right into the cinema also leads to their shared bathroom. You order at the counter. Yes, you may know what you want already, but the server at the counter (there's always been just one) will encourage you to try to a free spoon-full of one or more samples. After trying a few interesting flavors, I went back to my favorite: their butter brickle -- two generous scoops in a cup. As usual, it was delicious, and is meant to be slowly savored, nibble by nibble, throughout the film. So that is what I always satisfyingly do. I read this was one of the places to try the torched hot chocolate, so we walked around the city when visiting fountain square to find this place. It was very cute with unique ice cream flavors and cakes. However the hot chocolate was less than, first off it was NOT HOT, not even warm. Unfortunately we were at one of the less busy locations, so some of the flavors were unavailable at the time we visited. That blueberry cheesecake ice cream though - DELICIOUS! Not overly sweet, the blueberries didn't overpower it, and the flavors meshed so well. There was plenty of seating and a small marketplace inside of the shop as well. Was walking around Downtown when we strolled upon Hello Honey. An ice cream shop with multiple locations including Walnut Hills and Pleasant Ridge. They use only fresh ingredients and you can tell. The ice cream is made really well with just the right amount of sweetness. We've tried two flavors, brown butter caramel and banana honeycomb which were both delicious. The service was great too. The guy was really kind and answered all of our questions. There is no parking lot so street parking is or finding a lot nearby is what you'll have to do. The inside of the shop is pretty spacious and there's also plenty of seating outside. Highly recommend checking them out if you're craving a sweet treat! read more

Even though only one person was working, we didn't have too wait long for service, but waited a little while for our order but was worth the wait. I think this particular aspect of the experience fell off the wagon, because I thought they were *just* good - kinda under-toasted, more tough than melty. I used to frequent this location often because it's a nice walk from my place and I love the Honey Vanilla and waffle cones. The past few times I visited, the ice cream left an oily film that stayed until I brushed my teeth. It has been a few months but cannot bring myself to go back to this location. During my last visit, I sampled the Charcoal Sesame. I commented that it was good but I probably wouldn't be able to finish an entire cup of it. The woman behind the counter looked disgusted and said, "Yeah. Because it tastes like licking a Chinese wok at a Chinese restaurant." I love to try local ice cream shops when I visit places, and this was by where we were staying, so naturally I had to check it out. Walking in I kinda had a feeling like I should walk back out because it didn't exactly have an ice cream shop vibe. And the place was totally dead on a weekend during prime dessert time. We sat at one of the uncomfortably low loveseats and started to eat the ice cream. So I decided to try the brown butter caramel...it really did taste like brown butter. But omg the butterfat continued to accumulate in my mouth! Like imagine having a thick greasy layer of butterfat in your mouth you can't get rid of. I stopped eating it and ended up throwing most of it away. My hubby threw most of his away too. As we walked back to our hotel, we both started feeling sick. Like so bad that we were taking notice of the garbage cans on our walk, because one or both of us may have to throw up in one. I came here and found parking right in front around 8pm on a weeknight, which is to be expected. I ordered a 2 scoop cup. I immediately knew what flavor I wanted as they have a banana one, called banana honeycomb. Unfortunately it is not very strong with banana flavor....and I tasted mostly honey. The toasted coconut chip was really good and tasted similar to a graeters product I have purchased at Kroger before. Although, the only drawback is that it is very sweet. The interior is modern and roomy with several seating areas indoors and several park benches outside along the sidewalk. If you enjoy banana as much as me, this is like a banana lover's paradise. They have 1 ice cream flavor, but they also have rolled cakes with 3 banana flavors, and a banana a brulee sundae where you can choose any ice cream with caramelized bananas on top. Yum!! I'm a bit baffled as to how I missed this in my search for a local premium ice cream place. The location is downtown-y, but a bit strangely incorporated into the corner of what looks like a residential complex. It is open even in the winter, though I suspect it's a bit livelier in the warmer months. In addition to ice cream, they offer a series of roll-shaped cakes in largely similar flavors. The main thing I had against them was that this place hasn't gone much into the dairy-free realm, and I've seen other high-end ice cream places do great thinks with oat, coconut, etc. But if I'm rating them on the cream, it was good. This was a very cold cream with a texture more on the solid cake-y side that breaks off chunks in your mouth. Flavors were intriguing, including a brown butter caramel that delivered what the name promised. Their mint cookie flavor was dynamic and I ate it quickly. I'd still recommend coming down to Lexington for some Crank and Boom, but in Cincinnati, this appears to be the standard-bearer. In addition to this downtown location, they've opened up other shops in the suburbs on both sides of the river. read more

Visiting from out of town, we had some time before our show at the theater started, so we decided to get the family some ice cream! We walked in and the concrete floors were very sticky. We were greeted by the young person at the counter, and then another young person came from the back. As soon as we started our order, the first young person said to the other "ok you got this..." and just left. Went to the back. The second young person was so shocked, she left too, and then went to the back! We stood for another three or four minutes waiting and the second person finally reappeared. Our order was taken, and the young person that took our order disappeared to the back again! The ice cream is up front. Still not sure why they both kept going to the back. We finally received our ice cream, but I had to remind them what the last order was because they had forgotten even though they wrote down the order. The ice cream was good. It wasn't soft serve, but it wasn't frozen solid. The peanut butter crunch had a mild peanut butter flavor, the mint chip tasted just like Girl Scout cookies, and the blueberry cheesecake was great. They do give out samples and I surprisingly went with Salted Caramel Cone in a waffle cone, which they make in house. Salted Caramel Cone has the right amount of sweetness, but the consistency was more of a soft creamy. I wish the waffle cone had a crunchier bite, as it was a bit soft.
