Saved me several hundred dollars. I had an issue with a deadbolt and asked three places for estimates. One locksmith, who shall not be named, quoted me $350-400 to fix and $800-900 if it needed to be replaced. Another did not respond. Dani from Golden Hands asked for a photo, then asked me to call. He gave me a few pointers, I disassembled the lock assembly myself (surprisingly straightforward), and the problem was easily fixed. Dani was awesome - the previous owners lost the mailbox key when we took over the unit. Dani was able to come assess the situation for us. Since it's an older building, he had to re-order a new mailbox cylinder. He told us the plans and kept in touch with us the entire time - telling us when the parts would come in and when he can come back out to install it. With old buildings, there are always unexpected issues that come up but he was able to handle all of them. Best part was that he didn't charge us for the extra work and all the hassle he had to go through - it was still the same flat fee he originally quoted us for - which was very price competitive to begin with. Was locked out of my Apt. the other day, and not only did they take an hour to arrive after telling me it would only be 20 min (even though I'm less than a mile from their office) but they tried to charge me $150 to open my door. The guy came and told me my 'lock was very complicated' and that $150 is a really good deal. After bargening him down to $80, he agreed to unlock my door. Took him less than a minute to open it using my credit card. Horrible service and I am pretty sure he just tried to rip me off. read more

I really got fleeced by these guys. I was locked out of my car, and when I called I got a quote of $140. They came - it took about 30 minutes and this was a Saturday morning so that's pretty good. I can't complain about that. And it took about 10 minutes to actually get into the car, using one of those little blow-up cushions placed between the car door and the frame that gave enough space to get a wire into the car and unlock the catch. That's when the fun started. I saw him writing up the bill, an initial charge of $140, then added fees for a Saturday call, a "retrieval" fee and others. All in all, the bill was $410 to get my car - this is a differnece of $370 (about 250%) more than the bill. And when I refused to pay, the guy started to call the police, claiming that I was breaking into the car. I have reported them to the BBB. These people are plain out crooks. read more

Service was very timely and friendly. The locksmith had to come twice. Once to drill out the lock and a second time to replace the cylinder. Both times he was on time and worked quickly. However, my one star review is due to the unbelievably, insanely high price. In total, I paid close to $700 for him to drill out my lock and then replace it three days later. For this price I could have easily purchased the necessary equipment and learned how to do the job myself! I did not haggle or attempt to negotiate because the work had already been done by the time pricing came up. So that's my fault for not understanding what I would be charged up front. But regardless, I am still stunned at the price I paid for what I believe was a fairly simple job. I am thankful for his timeliness and quick work but I would not suggest calling Golden Hands unless you discuss pricing ahead of time and get a firm quote. read more

This is the bill I got when Golden Hands came to get into my car when I got locked the keys inside: Car unlock service fee: 160 Labor: 60 Service call fee: 40 Security fee: 25 Materials: 60 that's right - $345 for a lockout that took 10 minutes. And they didn't make a key, they just jammed something between the door and the frame, reached in with a hook, and unlocked the door. On the phone, they quoted me an estimate of $160 - pricey but I needed to get back into the car quickly and they were the closest. When I tried to complain about the bill, I was told that if I didn't pay immediately, they would confiscate the keys. This is a factual recounting, and I am inserting numbers directly from my bill. So decide for yourself if you want to pay $345 the next time you get locked out. read more

WHEN I QUESTIONED THEM, THEY REFUSED TO DO THE JOB THEY CAME TO DO. They went over the estimate with me over the phone, and when the locksmith arrived, he mentioned a charge that had not been discussed. When I objected, he started arguing with me, and when I counter-argued, he said that he would not do the job after all. There I am, needing lock work, and the locksmith in front of me is refusing to do the work he was sent to do. When I asked why, he said it was because he thought I was not going to pay. I insisted that I would, and I called his manager to reiterate this, but the manager, instead of smoothing over the situation, also refused to go forward with the work. I asked if there was anything I could do to convince them I would pay, and they said no, and the locksmith reinstalled my bum lock and left. These men are unprofessional, rude, short-sighted and a waste of time. What business would send someone to do a job and quit partway because of some bogus idea that the customer wouldn't pay? What business would risk their own reputation for such a relatively small amount of money? DO NOT HIRE THEM--THEY WILL WASTE YOUR TIME. read more
