I see a review hasn't been left in almost a year. There are some bad ones. As far as I am concerned this is a very solid spot for the Chinese Food/Szechuan cooking you love. The Pu Pu Platter is a personal favorite and very generous for what you get. The giant Dim Sum they include is killer. The fried rice and stir fry dishes I have had here are very impressive. They would give Ocean Palace in Albany a run for its money. There is a smokey char in the veggies and meat which is only achieved by a well season wok and a knowledgeable chef. I have never been shorted on an order. There is nothing overly creative served here so I go with 4 stars. The people that have given one or two stars have no clue! read more

When we crave Chinese food for Sunday lunch, this is generally the only option near us. The last three times, items have been missing from the order and instead of subbing tofu for chicken, we get chicken. The person who answers the phone doesn't have the world's greatest English, which is a real hardship for someone who takes orders. Additionally, whoever put the lids on the wonton soups has no idea how to seal them. My husband usually brings home a very wet bag. We won't be ordering from them again. read more

Have been going here for many years, and was basically good though they regularly forget an item. I went in for a lunch meal and the person in the back was unpacking and cutting up a meat delivery. Very unsanitary, using the same knife to cut open the boxes and plastic straps, then trim the meat. I mentioned it to the counter person who maybe did not speak english but after a few tries he merely told the guy to move where he was cutting so he was out of sight. We used to order all the time take out delivery and sit down UNTIL, wife found out owners wife steals delivery guys tips, wife ordered the same guy delivered she pays online adds $12 tip next week we order again same guy comes but he's upset and asks my wife why she doesn't tip on the online orders, my wife told him she always gives 20% no less, cause he is super nice and helpful he tells my wife his boss the owners wife told him there are no tips tonight, another night she said my wife gave a $1.5 tip when my wife tip $13.50 on that order. Another shot down ordered a #11 lunch special with wo ton soup total came to $7.50 plus tax. I then asked to add a can of soda. New total 13.75 I was like wtf $5.25 for a can of soda. What the scam wife did was take the wonton soup off add the cheaper side to my meal special then charge me 4.99 for add on wonton soup....I said no way she yell at me that's what we do, I said no freaking way I'm paying $5.25 for a small 12 Oz coke....I said you charge the $13.50 and I'm never coming here again. The husband came over and gave me the Coke and $1 back great so I payed 4.25 for a can of soda I could buy at stewars for 1.79. What a joke. We will NEVER order there again no take out no lunch no online...their loss of $250 a month or so, they don't give a shit about regular customers. read more

WHEN: Saturday @ 2pm I've been going to golden house for about 10yrs. The food is always cooked very quickly and always hot/warm when I pick it up. The owners are a very friendly couple and always have conversations with customers. Golden house lunch menu has a bunch of combinations that includes pork fried rice or egg roll/soup/ soda. I ordered enough food for six hungry people. Placed the order an hour ahead of time. It arrived on time. Everything was very, very good! Bone-in ribs, shrimp mei fun, spring rolls, everything was fresh and we could tell they had taken care in preparing. Not the usual ordinary Chinese food. The Shrimp with garlic sauce was a hit. Delicious food all the time. Rice is great. Prices are standard for chinese take out but food is very good. There is always one employee who runs the front counter who seems like she has to urinate all the time and is upset about it. She come off as rude and extremely efficient at the same time. Those traits would be probably be good for an assassin but not a front counter server at a chinese take out restaurant. Used to love this place. Will no longer be ordering food here. Placed order for specific time, they delivered meals at least 45 minutes before I specified. Meals were now cold when guests arrived. Asked why delivery was so early and was told sometimes they get busy so wanted to get food delivered now. No remorse. Didn't receive the shrimp lo mein for one meal, they only provided the plain noodles, didn't send any of the fortune cookies. Order was pricey especially with over twenty percent tip. Wouldn't have minded if order was given on what we wanted and if delivered when asked. Ruined the meal for several guests that evening. There are times when you just want a quick meal but not necessarily fast food. Chinese food can often be the answer to those prayers. However, Golden House was so busy when we where there it took fifteen minutes to get our take-out food. That seemed a really long time for such a common meal as chicken and broccoli. They subbed without fuss the fried rice for steamed and pork egg roll for a veggie one in my combo meal. They had many, many unusual dishes like asparagus shrimp or Hunan duck. I was impressed that the delivery driver would leave and return and turn around and leave. Business was constant and there was a line. I liked that it was clean and prices were low. Real plants were a great change to the often bare dining area of Chinese American restaurants. Our food was a tad salty but very tasty. No Styrofoam. Golden House is the only place I order from. However I have experienced some disappointing things I have come across this year. The chicken wings have been so hard that I know they have been deep fried at least a couple of times.Then the pu pu platter had a lot missing and was substituted with chicken tenders. Other wise they have very good customer service and make good on the mistakes. My place of employment uses them for parties and they taste great and fresh. read more

My Girlfriend likes their Crab Rangoons. As a whole we both like their food. Sometimes when we do takeout their staff can be overwhelmed by orders and have a hard time picking out which one is ours, but has never gotten our order outright wrong, or handed us the wrong order. There cleanliness seems satisfactory but based on what I've seen in the lobby and their health inspection store I could understand them needing to work on this. Unless something gets worse they will still have our buisness. Would definitely recommend it to most people. read more

Totally ruined my Christmas Eve. I placed my order at 5:27 pm for delivery using Mealeo because it said that it would deliver 30 minutes before any of the other restaurants (6:15-6:30). I called them at 6:45 to see where my food was and they said the driver left. I waited 15 more minutes, even though the restaurant is only 5 minutes away. After that, I tried to call them again only to get a busy signal. I decided at that point it was time to go over. I got there at 7:15 and asked about my food. The cashier said that they said that they never got the order but worked promptly to fix. Then another person in the back, who I presume to be the manager came up, without a mask on, and was incredibly rude to me. She also gave us 10 dollars back, which barely covered the delivery fee and the tip, disregarding that we said we did not want the food and just wanted our money back. When we finally got the food it was okay. The sesame chicken and tangarine beef were both perfectly okay, as well as the vegetable dumplings. The spring rolls had shrimp in them. Although it was not noted on the menu, I assumed that they would be vegetarian, as I do not eat shellfish. It is really a shame, this place has been my families go to for Chinese takeout and delivery for a very long time. We will definitely be going somewhere else from now on. read more

Decided to order from them today for a change of pace, after previously ordering from another place in the area many times. I placed my order online at 11:08am for delivery. At 12:08pm, I called to see what was taking so long since they are literally 2 miles from my office. Even if they had other deliveries going out at the same time, it shouldn't take an hour. The person I got on the phone could have cared less, she told me it should be here already. Um...I wouldn't be calling if it was HERE. She had no explanation whatsoever and didn't care to try to call the driver to see what the hold up was. After hanging up frustrated and still hungry, I got a call 10 minutes later from the delivery driver, who was lost. She was around the corner from me so I gave her directions....she called again 5 minutes later, still lost. After giving her more directions, she finally came down the right street and handed my food to someone else that works in my office who happened to be outside. The egg rolls were burnt, the food was cold....but on a brighter note, she drove off without getting the payment for the food. Since she handed it to someone who knew nothing about what was ordered or how it was paid for, and not asking for payment by just driving away....the burnt and cold food that took an hour and 25 minutes to get was free! I kept the cash sitting on my desk all afternoon to see if she was going to come back looking for it, or for the restaurant to call me, but no one ever did. I guess they realized that the service and the food they provided wasn't worth me paying for it. I figured if I called them, I would get the same "I don't care" attitude from them again so I didn't bother :) Update: they called me the next day looking for their money. After I very politely (or not) told them how much the whole experience sucked, I was offered 15% off. Another reason I won't be returning. It should have been 50%! read more

Some seriously good Chinese Food! Shrimp Lo Mein was phenomenal! My Hubby's general Tsao had great flavor! Dinner for 2 for less than $20! This place is right on Union, clean place had seating but we had takeout. They should have an older person running the front and handling payments, the little Indian boy must've been 13, maybe 14 years old. Great food! Delivery is only $1.00 but they mentioned it would take 45 minutes vs 15 minutes so I went in! I highly recommend this place for yummy Chinese cravings. read more

We have been going here for Chinese take out since 2001, always great lo mein, sesame chicken, chicken & broccoli, sweet & sour chicken, & of course, Roast Pork Egg Rolls. We haven't been very happy with the food lately, the lo mein noodles are 1/3 of the thickness that they had in the past & taste like paste, the egg rolls are so skinny, about 1/2 the size of what they were. I would prefer a price increase to a loss of quality, We asked them over & over about the thicker noodles, but we keep getting the thin ones, i guess we will be looking for a new Chinese take out soon. read more

We were fans until recently. We've had too many bad experiences to go back again. Tonight's chicken dishes both tasted like rancid fish and the last order we had was full of fatty veiny pork (imagine chewing it for a few seconds and realizing ). Tonight's fishy flavor makes us wonder about cross contamination, their storage/freezing standards and how often they clean their dishes or change out their grease. Unfortunately they've put us off Chinese food for a long time. It would seem more forgivable if they were even the slightest bit polite or acted like they cared about your business.
