Yesterday, I ordered Bean Curd with Mixed Vegetable and asked for the bean curd to be cooked "crispy" which has a hard, crunchy crust and chewy inside. Instead I got "mushy" tofu that was wet, soft and breaks apart easily. I was dissatisfied and while at the counter I asked to return the Bean Curd and ordered the Sautéed Mixed Vegetable. When eaten at home, the Vegetable Fried Rice that I bought was excessively oily and tasted greasy. The Sautéed Mixed Vegetable was a watery soup, over drowned by too much sauce and the Vegetable Spring Roll was so narrow that its tiny diameter was like the size of two drinking straws placed side by side. You didn't get enough food because the Roll was just too tiny. A total rip off! The food I ordered was poorly prepared and tasted terrible. read more

I have been going to New China for almost 30 years now. When my husband and I moved back to here from New York City the first thing he needed to find was a take out Chinese spot for his beloved dumplings. After trying a few places, many of which are fairly decent, he felt New China was the best option. It also helps that we live like 5 mins away so it's easy to grab dinner. The food here is excellent and reasonably priced. We are creatures of habit and pretty much get the same items and are always happy. Decided on Chinese Take Out the other night to accompany the Chinese New Year cake I made for my mom for her birthday, because let's face it, what's a birthday party without a theme? Unfortunately, I couldn't get my hands on rat party supplies (2020 is the Year of the Rat). This time I deviated from my go-to General Tso's and took a less militaristic approach, going with the sesame chicken combo meal (whoa! so different... not), rounded out with bland pile of pork fried rice and an eggroll better fit for a rabbit than a hungry human. Egg rolls are the quintessential Chinese takeout food, and even though they're very much an Americanized creation that evolved from its cousin, the more svelte Chinese spring rolls, sometimes I very much like the basic version you find in takeout places and Chinese buffets; however, unfortunately this review lost a star because of it's disappointing egg roll. Hey, it was missing so many ingredients, I figured it wouldn't notice a missing star, too. Instead of a colorful medley of shredded cabbage, carrots, celery, scallions, and *hopefully* some pork in there for good measure, I sunk my teeth into a crispy egg roll wrapper filled with nothing but wilted cabbage leaves with absolutely no flavor, zilch. Nada. More like a take on chimichanga better suited for a rabbit than an American girl. It was a disappointing end to the weekend, to say the least, but it got me thinking: what happened to all those fillings? Do I need to send out a search party? Are these veggies falling off the back of a delivery truck? I need answers people! Egg rolls are being compromised, and it ain't pretty. In closing, my meal was pretty tasty, an A-OK version of sesame chicken, which honestly isn't that much different that General Tso's, just perhaps a bit less spicy. Their General Tso's doesn't pack a memorable punch, so these dishes are almost the same. I haven't completely given up on New China, but next time I have a hankering for Chinese food, I'm going to expand my horizons and try a new place... read more

Worse chinese restaurant in the city....i gave them 3 tries and this is the third time they got the orders all wrong...said it would be 30 minutes, an hour later they call to ask my address which i gave them twice when I ordered.....then I had to repeat the entire order, wait another 30 minutes, and the order was STILL wrong....never calling them again.....they barely speak any english...sorry but if you cant hire someone to take an order correctly, then you shouldn't be in business...THE WORSE. I've seen alot of mixed reviews here, but honestly I think this place is pretty good. That's not to say that they don't have the occasional slip up, that's to be expected anywhere. But they're far and few. My favorite dishes are Singapore Mei Fun (yellow curry rice noodles), General Tsao's Chicken (yes it's real meat and alot of it with a great sauce), Bourbon Chicken appetizer, and Young Chow Fried Rice (clean and delicious fried rice with chicken, shrimp, pork, and some basic fried rice vegetables). My only problem has been with the egg rolls. They sometimes don't put napkins in the egg roll bag, so the grease doesn't get pulled away. Just ask them to do this on the phone when ordering and you're golden. read more

A great take out place! We have been taking out occasionally since ~3 yrs now, without any major miss-ups.

Really above average in the Americanized Chinese Takeout genre, average value in a hole in the wall storefront in a nearly-dead oldschool mini-stripmall. We tried standards for our first time out. Dumplings were well above average, including nice thick wrappers and very gingery pork fillings. Eggrolls were not overfried and greasy. Moo Shu pork was very tasty, although downgrades on the pancakes for having been reheated in a baggy in the microwave (and all of them fell apart along the crease lines, so it was a fail). Orange chicken was glutinous, American-style, but had many actual pieces of orange peel in it, indicating they make the sauce from scratch. Downtick for almost no broccoli in it, though. String beans were nice and garlicky, although we still haven't found a place in the area that sears them dry the way they're suppose to be seared. But the quality of the beans was good and they remained crunchy. Having cantonese, szechuan, and hunan is really all over the map, and they have some true American dishes (chow mein!) so there's not what I'd call much originality going on, but within the category everything definitely came out above average. They had the order up within 15 minutes as well. Prices aren't that cheap relative to the area, though, with some of the main course dishes ranging up above $9 for standard-sized takeouts. They do use the reusable plastic containers (the old style paper containers were used only for rice) which is a plus. The thing I noticed most about this place, though, compared to the many other similar and almost generic counter-style Chinese takeout joints, is that the employees were chattering with one another, laughing, exchanging pleasantries (with one another; the English of the counter clerk was almost non-existent, and presumably his American language skills were the best of the crew), and acting like, well, a family. Too many places like this the employees seem to be toiling under indenture (perhaps literally) and seem unhappy and gruesomely overworked. So it was a bit more pleasant than one might expect given the hideaway location. read more

They offer a good selection of Chinese dishes including Cantonese, Hunan, and Szechuan style dishes. 33 Daily Lunch Specials ($5.15 each) served until 3PM with pork fried rice (or white rice) and choice of soup, egg roll, shrimp roll, or soda and 30 Special Combination Plates ($6.75-$7.55) served with egg roll and pork fried rice are offered. I recently stopped in here on a Sunday morning around 11:45AM and the place was actually open earlier than the 12 Noon opening time. The staff was busy gathering a large order. I ordered the L21 Eggplant with Garlic Sauce with Pork Fried Rice and Hot & Sour Soup. The food was ready to go in about 10 minutes. The portion of food was generous for the price, really packed into a round foil container and the soup in a separate pint container. The eggplant with garlic sauce had a soft texture covered in a sweet and spicy sauce. The fried rice (light yellow color) had a soft texture with peas, onions, and small pieces of roast pork. The hot & sour soup had whipped egg, bamboo, vegetables, mushrooms, & bean curd in a mild spicy broth. The food overall was enjoyable and filling with leftovers for later on. And they never give you hot mustard People came back just to get hot mustard. when i called my order in the girl told me that rice came with moo shu When I got there she said she was sorry that moo shu did not have rice with it and if I wanted some rice that she could give me some I figured it would be on the house because she made a mistake well she charge me four dollars for the rice I told her no thanks I will skip the rice ,over all bad experience at that New China. I recently had some chicken Lo Mien from this restaurant and it was very salty, and the won ton soup had a funny taste to it.

In the categories of "take out" and "delivery," this is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Schenectady. Years ago, we patronized it heavily when we lived in wretched poverty in a tiny apartment in nearby Sheridan Village. Since then, although we have many options, we go out of our way for this when we want to binge on tasty entrees. My regular orders include sliced chicken with garlic sauce, chow fun (Singapore or beef, with addictive wide rice noodles), and Hunan beef. The chunky beef here is better quality than usual. The hot and sour soup is the best I know of in the region: flavorful and very hearty, with lots of tofu and healthy mushrooms. So yes, safe to say Schenectady has decent Chinese food. I'm a picky person! I love awesome Lo Mein and they have it here QUART size! I didn't look at menu prices when I called to place the order, I ordered a small Egg drop soup, Qt. of Vegetable Lo Mein and a large General Tso to share with hubby! All that for $17 bucks with tax! I am impressed and I think the quality definitely surpasses our old Chinese take out place Golden House. I have now become a loyal take out member of New China! Excellent service on the phone, patient, they speak clear English and get you exactly what you want. Free wonton chips with your order. Dinner portions huge! I'm new to the area & tbh I haven't yet found a Chinese restaurant that I really like. After trying a few I thought this was the one but honestly they take a long time to bring the food. Sometimes over 40 mins. The food was ok but this time I was very disappointed I ordered my usual chicken wings with pork fried rice & as you can see in the pictures the rice is very discolored and it literally tastes like nothing & seems old. I decided to check this place out because it was on the weekly yelp. Not sure how it gets decided who gets put on there but I won't be trusting that again. Because of other reviewers saying how good the crab Rangoon and general tsos were I ordered them. Not sure where these people have had crab Rangoon before that they think this place is the best, it was awful. The dough on it was so thick and there was barely any filling making it pretty flavorless without the dipping sauce. The general tsos also had really thick breading on it, the sauce was barely spicy and unlike a previous reviewer said it didn't taste like chicken. The eggroll was the only part of the meal that was decent. That being said I woke up at about 2 am with a horrible stomach ache and was sick on and off for the rest of the night and the following day. I do not recommend this place and I'll never go back. read more

Okay so we ordered this from work and co-worker went and picked it up and brought it back so we can have it for lunch. The food wasn't really that great, I don't know if it was just today, but the food was dry I ended up getting the sesame chicken combo lunch special and it really wasn't that great at all. It didn't really appetize anybody in our party and will probably be the last time we end up ordering from this particular place. It would have been better if there was more sauce on the chicken and it seemed like the chicken was almost like a powder when you bit into it and that is not how I like to eat chicken. I hope that the people at this restaurant are looking at these and do take this as a helpful criticism and maybe look at different ways that they can change the way they do things because right now the food that they're serving is really dry and it wasn't just my food but it was the entire order. The crab Rangoon's were the worst I have ever eaten, there was basically no filling and they were cold. Sesame chicken was just gross- it was swimming in super thin sauce so the broccoli that came with it was soggy. The fried wontons were stale. Egg drop in wonton soup was bland-(it usually has some saltiness from other places). Also, 1 egg roll costs $3?!? I got delivery from this place and they brought it right to my highschool (where I was having lunch.) They were a few minutes early and the food was a huge portion for the lunch special price. You could feed 2 people out of some lunch specials. The food was steaming hot when I opened it. My friends all had to save their lunch for later because of how big the portions were. For 3 lunch specials and a side of fries I think it was $22 plus a tip for the delivery guy. Will order again! Great food for a great price. read more

I really hope it comes back; it's the closest takeout Chinese to my home. Please, please rebound. Our relationship started to go amiss when I was upcharged for ordering plain noodles. It was never explained, just extra charges tacked on. Next, spicy dishes started getting blander and blander. Costs crept up, while quality ingredients diminished. I was in search of a good Chinese food place near me, and this was the closest to it based on reviews. I forgot to take a picture, I was too hungry. I ordered pick up mushu pork, small chicken and broccoli, and egg drop soup. They packed the container full of the pork and it has been the best mushu pork I've had so far, it came with 5 pancakes. The chicken and broccoli was really good, the chicken tasted different than the usual, but I loved it. I liked the egg drop soup, but I'm used to it have a bit of a kick to it. Kung Po Chicken was really good. Fresh ingredients and just the right amount of vegetables to go with the chicken. Chicken tasted like chicken, which is a surprise as compared to other similar joints. Prices were what you would expect from a Chinese Take-Out joint, but on the high end. (pt of soup: $2; pt of chop suey: $3.50; qt of chicken: $8.15). Free deliveries on orders over $10, though. They also have $5 lunch specials. The restaurant itself is in a dilapidated little shopping plaza anchored by a CVS. Not a lot of room on the inside, and it seems most people just duck in to pick up their food. The outside of the eatery doesn't look like someplace you'd want to eat at, but the inside is remarkably clean. In short, not the best Chinese take-out I've had, but it's better than most. read more
