Also, I'd love if they moved the soda machines from the kitchen window--it would be nice to watch the staff make the noodles they're known for. We ordered the pork bao buns, hamburger, General Tso's chicken, and beef noodles with brown sauce. Every dish was delicious, but the General Tso's was easily the best I've ever had--perfectly balanced, not overly sauced or battered. The noodles and broth were also amazing. Bookmarked this a long time ago and finally had a chance to come try this - it was definitely worth the drive and regret not coming sooner! Have been looking for some amazing authentic Chinese food and haven't found that in the Nashville area yet, although there are some places that are adequate to calm the craving. Even though there's some Americanized dishes here (e.g. orange chicken, lo mein), I came for the hand pulled noodles and they did not disappoint! The beef noodle soup was flavorful, perfectly spicy for me (I got "spicy"), with extra chili sauce on the table if needed. The beef was tender, noodles were fresh, springy, and perfectly chewy, and the broth was delicious. Tea egg was as expected, a slightly flavored hard boiled egg - not sure if it's worth $1.99. Overall, will return just for the beef noodle soup! Also had their house made pickles, which was kim chi (really good although slightly salty), orange chicken with fried rice (chicken was definitely better than Panda, but it better be for $18.99; included fried rice was not that exciting but good enough as it was free), xiao long bao (soup dumplings, solid filling but wrapped was a little chewy). So happy this business opened in Murfreesboro, it looks like the ramen/noodle movement is building momentum with Hokkaido, Golden Lanzhou and others of the same cuisine making debuts here. The restaurant is nondescript and you will need to actually enter the parking lot to see it. The interior is comfortable, the greeting friendly. Depending on the day and time, there may be a short wait. I have tried almost all of the appetizers and they are unique and tasty. There is a good selection of noodle dishes, both with soup and dry. The servings are filling, the taste is mild except for the spicy dishes, which are also tasty but understand the heat is not direct and it actually feels like my mouth is tingling from the heat, which is different than, for example, heat from jalapeno or other peppers. We heard about this place when it first opened but didn't really feel the need to rush over to try it. I can probably admit the mistake now because we loved Golden Lanzhou bowls. Place is tucked away in a run down plaza and really is out of place. You can tell they really want to stick to their roots of authentic Chinese food. We tried the cucumber appetizer, potato appetizer, Chinese hamburger and the noodle bowl. All very good and I feel like you can't go wrong with most things on the menu. Very fresh food, service was great and the food came out so quickly once we placed the order. The restaurant is very clean and has a very cute store next door with all sorts of succulents, artwork, vases, and treats. The Mapo Tofu was warming and served perfectly with rice. The Egg Drop Soup was creamy and not heavy on the salt. The You Po Noodle was really good, but as a heads up, this dish is served cold which we did not expect! We ate it up all the same! We also ordered the Lanzhou Traditional Beef Soup Noodles! The broth was so comforting and had such a depth of flavor, the meat was so tender, and the noodles were really special. Just got takeout today since we were in the area and I have been on the hunt for awhile for a good, local Chinese restaurant -- the food did not disappoint and definitely satisfied my Chinese food craving!! We got a few of the takeout classics (orange chicken, chow mein, pork fried rice) and also added some dumplings/extras to the mix (the Hong Kong Bao, shrimp dumplings, and spring rolls). Everything was fresh, delicious, and flavorful -- I have to go back sometime to enjoy their hand pulled noodles, but I wasn't feeling soup today. In addition to the good food, the staff were helpful and friendly and even provided water and a snack as we waited. The restaurant itself is somewhat small, but comfortable and utilizes its space well -- would definitely eat in if I'd had the time! We got here around lunch time on a weekend and it was pretty packed, but we got seated right away and the tech time was pretty awesome for how packed they were. I started off with one of those canned drinks. It was called coco palm. I'm not quite sure what it was, but I thought it was pretty good. Their pork pan fried dumplings were pretty alright here, too. I thought it was fried perfectly and the sauce was pretty good. My favorite thing I tried here was the Chinese hamburger. I tried the beef one and I really liked it a lot. The bun was my favorite thing about it. The bun was cooked perfectly. It was soft and flaky. I've never had it before and I honestly don't think you can get this anywhere in this town, so definitely a must try. As far as the beef soup goes. The noodles are made fresh and they're really soft. The beef itself was pretty tender. If you've never had fresh noodles, definitely a must try. It's hard to eat at places that do fresh noodles these days. I've been wanting to try Golden Lanzhou since they opened and finally gave it a try today. I had very high expectations since I've heard so many good things about this restaurant. Come to say it's just average. I wanted to try one of their signature soup bowls but I didn't because the temperature of the restaurant was just not comfortable, it was a little humid. I tried xiao long bao, I was really hoping for soup dumplings as my little one loves them but they're just regular steam buns. The protein and bread ratio was a bit off. Too much dough not enough filling. I tried two of the Chinese hamburgers, the regular one was nothing fancy, very little protein with tons of raw onions, way too much onions to be honest and I like onions. All I tasted was onions with flaky pastry puff. The house special beef hamburger on the other hand was really good! Probably the only thing I enjoyed there. It was sweet and very saucy. Super flavorful. I would order this again. Chow mein noodles. It looked good and very promising but I did not care to it much. The noodles are too doughy. It's not as consistent which I understand since their noodles are hand pulled. There were some thick noodles, personally some of the noodles were way too doughy and had that dough taste. Just too heavy for my liking. The woodear and onions was ok. It was different. But it was good. Just not good enough for me to order again. The Korean corndog was for my son, he loves Korean corn dogs, except he did not enjoy the Mayo that was on it. I think they should specify on the menu since not everyone loves condiments like that. I really wanted to try the other dumplings thinking they were made in-house. The server said they were made in-house but I saw a guy taking dumplings out of a store bought bag and coking them. Was a little disappointing. Since they hand pull their own noodles. I was there if they would make their own dumplings from scratch too. That was not the case. Their chili oil could use some heat as there was no heat to it at all. I like the Szechuan peppercorn taste which was nice! Visited June 26, 2024. The time my party of 4 came in, the restaurant had 3 parties of two come in after us, while other parties of two were finishing up their food. The interior setting had plenty of tables accommodating parties up to 6. Any larger will require putting some tables together. The atmosphere and decor reflects Asian elements with a viewing window that allows customers to see their food being prepared. We were immediately provided water but then it seemed like there was a miscommunication between the servers so our order was taken after the other parties. We had to wave a server down to let them know we are ready to order. Other than servers being polite, the service was below par. I will be coming back and hoping for better service because honestly the food was a 9/10. Cons: from the time of ordering it took 40 minutes for the food to come out. The food runner had no idea what food the dishes were other than it being beef noodles. The combo came with extra items which were forgotten about and had to be mentioned. And one side of dumplings came out at the end of our meal (1 hour later) rather than the beginning. Pros: You can taste the quality of the hand pulled noodles. There's plenty of free parking. We were out picking up my prescriptions at Kroger (I had unfortunately been in the hospital at TriStar Centennial where they saved my life, A huge Thank You to everyone that helped in my care) My friend was like "I want comfort food"... Her exact words "Pasta, Pho, Noodles" I said well there is an amazing place across the street from Kroger... I said they have noodles, soup and curry. We were there at lunch time and the service was amazing. We didn't have to wait to be seated, they brought us our menus and a glass of water with lemon. They gave us a few moments to look over the menu and came to take our order. The picture is of the Chicken Curry. It was amazing. It was served with rice. My friend got the same thing as well. She exclaimed that this was the best curry that she has ever had. She said even though we live an hour away (I live 45 minutes away) she said that we will definitely return. I said awesome because there are more items on the menu that I want to try. Considering we went in for noodles and ended up with a curry... A quiet restaurant that you can sit and talk to friends. We ordered the cold cucumbers and potatoes appetizers and devoured it within minutes of getting them. So nice and refreshing. Perfect appetizers before the soup dumplings came to our table. I normally have to lower my expectations a bit for Asian food in the Nashville area, but their soup dumplings didn't disappoint! The meat and soup are so flavorful. It's very comparable to what I get in Houston. The beef noodle soup was also delicious. The noodles were cooked just right with a good amount of QQness. I have been looking for a place with hand-pulled noodles in the Nashville-ish area and I have FOUND them!!! It's located in a strip mall, and as we walked in we were greeted with the BIGGEST smiles and friendliest greetings from the servers and staff. They were beyond sweet, encouraged us to sit where we wanted, were accommodating for my non meat-eating friend, and told us to take pictures of the chefs at work. The reason you come here is for the noodles, let's be real. So you get their Golden Lanzhou Bowl. You can choose what noodle type you want, and I will ALWAYS recommend the thin wide flat noodles (similar in size to what you get in a pad see ew, per say) and the wide flat noodles (absolutely HUGE) as these are the BEST way to really get the experience of the hand-pulled noodle mouthfeel, but the chive leave flat noodles look great too. **Make sure to go up to the front and look at the pictures of all the different noodle types up on the wall before ordering, so you know what you're getting!** Here's everything we had: -Smashed Cucumber: 10/10 - SO good!! So garlicky, with a bit of heat, and a deliciously flavorful oil. Just get it, the flavors are classic but so excellently executed. -Chicken Dumplings: 5.5/10 - Honestly a bit disappointed with these. They are steamed so you don't get much texture, but the casing of the dumplings are also thick and the chicken inside is pretty flavorless. The dipping sauce was the saving grace for this dish, though, as it added the taste we needed. -Xiao Long Bao: 7.5/10 - These were PIPING hot, but the filling was warm , gooey, and meaty. It's not the same sort of sweet, tangy BBQ flavor that you get in a lot of baos; it's more subtle and muted. The bao bun itself was thinner and less sweet than I've had elsewhere but still really delicious, and dipped in the broth from my bowl, I was a happy girl. -Golden Lanzhou Bowl: 9/10 - It comes with a hot broth, your choice of spice (it's chili oil, so I recommend getting a good amount, but if you're afraid you can always go mild and then add the chili oil yourself from the bowl on the table), your choice of noodle, a few vegetables/herbs, and beef pieces. The beef pieces were super good in terms of flavor (though there wasn't a ton of meat in my bowl). My friend doesn't eat beef so she asked for no beef in hers, but you cannot substitute out the beef broth. The noodles have the PERFECT chew to them. When you go hand-pulled, you just CAN'T go back. These were just like those I've had elsewhere: delicious. I will say, I got mild, and in order to be fully satisfied with the flavor of my bowl, I added more chili oil and soy sauce. Very traditional beef noodle soup that Lanzhou is known for. I got the wide, flat noodles and really enjoyed them. My husband got the thin round noodles (more like spaghetti noodles) and his were ok. The broth was very tasty! We also tried the homemade pork water dumplings (which were excellent), the tea eggs (I've not had since living in China 20 years ago!), and the cucumber and peanut with celery appetizer. Overall it was a food experience. The staff was very friendly and the food reminded me of all the delicious meals I had in China. I dined at Golden Lanzhou Bowls on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at around 5 pm. This restaurant was recommended by my family who had it before, so I was excited to try. When I walked in, the restaurant was probably at 60% capacity, so it wasn't too busy. It took a long time for the server to come and take our order. But the server was very apologetic, which was I was a little forgiving towards. However, the wait didn't stop there. It took considerably longer time for the food to come out (about 45 minutes). People who came in and sat after us were able to get their food before my table. As I saw the foods walk past our table to diners who came in after us, I grew very impatient. Finally when the food came, the server (different from the one who took the order) didn't even know which dish was what, since all the noodle soup bowls looked relatively the same. I had the combo B with thin flat wide noodles, which didn't come with a tea egg as indicated on the menu. So I had to request that. The combo was also supposed to come with a bottled drink, which I now realized I never got after reviewing the menu when writing this review. The noodles itself tasted fresh and the soup tasted better once I added the chili oil. Overall, it tasted average and like something I would expect from a buffet. I liked the pork steamed dumplings though. Good filling and masterful wrapping. It did come out after I had finished my noodles. So it seemed like they forgot about it. The smashed cucumber was good, crispy, light, and flavorful. Had I not waited as long as I waited, I think my perception of the food would've been better and wouldn't be skewed by the wait time. What a great little place! It's a little far out there, and they're still getting their feet under them, but go support this business. We ordered a lot of food, but the standouts were definitely the pan fried dumplings, the shredded potatoes, smashed cucumber, celery peanut salad, and the hand pulled noodle soup. This is probably the most difficult review I've had to write. Employees agreed that they are the victim of their own success. Genuine Chinese cuisine from Lanzhou China is offset by long wait times for food. In all the restaurants I've been to, this is the best ever. Go there because the food is great. Don't go there due to the long wait times and I don't want you clogging up the shop with even longer wait times. Unlike most of my reviews where I try to be organized, this is more of a stream of consciousness. Opened six weeks ago, they intended for a "soft" opening. A social medial post on Instagram went viral and the crowds overwhelmed them. These are their comments, not mine. I had to wait over an hour for my food, but I was warned. A fellow foodie at work recommended this place. At that time I was mulling over where I wanted to go for lunch. I'm glad I took her recommendation. It is located in a very dismal strip mall. it is the bright spot and hopefully will help bring it back to life. Once inside, the ambiance and decorations make you glad you arrived. There are wonderful bamboo sculptures, vases, and flowers It is an open kitchen and you can watch the chef hand pull the noodles. It is a great show that most customers do not avail themselves of. On to the food. My adult son is the expert on steamed buns. I enjoyed mine and he will like these. Having not idea what "Triangular Noodles", I went for it. There are eight different noodle types you can order for any dish. They were excellent. I tried to eat my noodle soup as I do pho. Natives taught me to grasp noodles with chopsticks, lift them eye level and deposit them on the soup spoon. This was impossible because the noodles were so long you had to slurp them or twirl them on a tablespoon. The broth and the meat were wonderful. Real chopsticks and not disposable ones lent a nice touch. Fork and spoon were gold in color, which was very nice. When I have the time, I will come again. It is not a place to rush through. Drove down from Nashville after hearing about this place. It was hands down has one of THE best orders of Orange Chicken and Fried Rice I've ever had. Often times, take out places seem to all taste the same. But the food I had here was the complete opposite of that. It was fresh and original tasting like something you would get from a much higher priced restaurant. The orange chicken had some heat to it and the rice had fresh carrots and peas. The service was fantastic as well. I ordered my food to go and while I waited, the wonderful attendant brought me water, along with a plate of some kind of chips and really good sweet chili pepper type sauce. The big plate chicken in particular was phenomenal and something I would come back for. This is a dish from Xinjiang province that is difficult to find in Tennessee.
