Mark and his team just removed 5 rooms of old carpeting and replaced it with high end 'luxury vinyl' plank intended to 'match' some existing flooring in other rooms in the house. Although I'm not a fan of faux wood, the real wood options are just too expensive now. Removing the carpet presented some challenging problems (walls built on top of the carpet edges and carpet glued to stairs). And there were unexpected bad subfloor issues that Mark had to deal with. Mark also recommended replacing all the mismatched baseboards for a uniform look and I am so glad he did. The end result....floors and baseboards... was much better than I anticipated. I just had Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring installed in my house by Mark of Golden Oak Flooring. The flooring I replaced was about 600 sq. ft. sheet vinyl and 600 sq. ft. carpet. The vinyl was 2 layers thick. Before signing with Golden Oak I got bids from two name brand flooring companies. The first one gave me an estimate but said that because my house was built in 1971the glue used on the vinyl was asbestos and before they start I would need to have a Haz Mat company remove and dispose of the vinyl. I asked if he could give me a contact number for a Haz Mat co. He said he didn't have one. Next, I called a flooring store that advertises on T V. Their contract says, "If before or during installation they suspect asbestos, the job will stop and it will be my responsibility to have it removed by Haz Mat before they continue." They also said they didn't have a contact number for Haz Mat. I asked if they could send an installer up to tell me before I signed the contract to see if they suspected asbestos. They said I have to sign the contract first. My fear was not knowing if I would have to pay thousands of dollars in addition to the flooring contract. Next, I called Mark of Golden Oak flooring. Mark said I wouldn't have to remove the vinyl. He would build up the area where the carpet was removed to the exact height of the vinyl and lay the new floor over it. Golden Oak's price was within a couple hundred dollars of the first two and would save me many thousands of dollars by not removing and disposing the vinyl. Mark did the job. It was on schedule, on budget and it looks wonderful. Mark did an excellent job. He is a perfectionist and pays attention to detail. We moved to Sonoma county in the spring and the house had wood floor that was a bit orangish for us. We wanted to refinish that and also install some new flooring in other areas. We contacted a few installers in the area. We ended up going with Mark because he was very down to earth and would be the one on-site and in charge of the work. We had many unexpected difficulties from pulling the engineered floor, thickness of the floor, slopes, gaps, dealing with built-in refrigerator, and door frames. Mark had to change his plan multiple times because of the strange ways things were done previously. He meticulously thought of ways to make everything aesthetic. He managed to find ways to address each unexpected difficulty and contacted appliance professionals and a metal smith to get the job done correctly. Mark knows what he is doing, has a great eye for details and gets the job done beautifully. The original hardwood flooring that we found under the cheep flip job flooring was a mess. Sections had been cut into to get to the sub flooring, large areas had paint damage and other ares where missing material. Our house is old and not completely even or level either, but some how he made the floors look perfect. 5 Stars to the extensive subfloor repair, weaving new material and restoration of the original material. My husband and I can't be more happy with the out come. Mark is also quick to respond and very easy to communicate with. Now the reason I gave the 4 stars is a reflection of how the calculation of estimates was handled. My husband and I were very forgiving a few different times when it came to numbers and estimates that were generated. Without going too far into detail, bottom line is triple check the numbers and ask him to do the same before he has to make excuses or plead for forgiveness for calculation/estimate errors. So I had a bedroom with gross, old carpet and couldn't take it any longer. I called Empire and they came out and bid the job and I gave them a deposit and the night before they were scheduled to do my floor I cleared out the room. Problem was they never showed up to do the job! I spent the entire day trying to get ahold of customer service. You CANNOT get help or an answer from someone at Empire if something goes wrong. A day or two later someone did finally get back to me and they try to blame me for their no show!! Anyway, I fired Empire and found Mark at Golden Oaks Flooring and he guided me through what type of flooring to order and we scheduled a day from the job to be done. Unlike Empire they showed up and got the job done. It cost more than what Empire was gonna charge me, but it was worth it. Way overpriced. Not only was I strung along which created a huge inconvenience with my daily life and job but I was charged a lot more than I was originally quoted. Defects became evident soon after installation seems lifting, chips outside traffic areas and some pieces had missing finish. They broke a tile on my door entrance and claimed it was already broken and they were not responsible to repair it. So very disappointed in this company. These issues have yet the be resolved. I will NEVER do business with this company again NOR would I ever recommend them to anybody. Please stay clear from this company. read more

Our "new" floor is beautiful. We had a small kitchen fire on the floor. Hot molten aluminum had spread all around on the floor and on some of the cabinetry. Mark and his crewman worked with us on the scheduling and made it easy. Off the kitchen, we have a 1400 sq ft "great room" with living room and dining room. Matched it all perfectly. The match of the new wood with the old is invisible. And the old floor is just like new. What a gift! My husband and I recently bought an old house in Petaluma with nice oak floors in need of refinishing. We were dealing with a very short window between closing and our move in date. After a number of unsuccessful attempts to book refinishers recommended by our real estate agent, I turned to yelp.
