The owner John is great. He really has great customer service. When I had a concern about the edges of the real hardwood floors we had refinished, he came right over and looked at and assured me it was normal. It just looked to me like the edges didn't completely get the stain. But I'm very happy with Empire Floors! They made our hardwood floors look flawless and updated. Love the color I chose. Which is aged barrel. It's goes with our "San Francisco Fog" accent wall so well;) literally obsessed! Our home has a modern feel now and the quality of the finish was well worth the 2,400$! If your looking for a great flooring company, look no more, GO HERE! Trust me you'll be happy you did. And I really only write positive reviews. I had a horrible experience with this company. I was not aware that they sub contract the work out and they only sent two people and the job took over 10 hours. I had to secure my kids and dog for that long. They used my personal appliances and left glass bottles to break in my freezer, broke plumbing in the bathroom and closet door hinges. They also had two different trims and on the reinstall missed the appointment. This company did not value my time and I will not recommend this company to anyone. My neighbor had to come and fix what they broke and I spent more money on parts. read more

The gentleman who helped us in 2019 had been there for many years (now retired). That seemed like a good sign. He helped us choose carpeting, vinyl plank flooring and hardwood. As nice as he was he made a number of costly mistakes in calculating kitchen floor thickness with a new dishwasher and height of new refrigerator to new cabinets. Also for some reason not understanding what was needed to install vinyl plank over rough bathroom tile. He said it could be done easily by floating a piece of "something" over the tile. That turned out to be incorrect. The hardwood we chose was not available due to thickness of the hardwood plank which meant we had chose another option. Actually that turned out fine. Looks quite nice. However it pitted one salesman and owner against another and made my husband and I very uncomfortable. We were in the middle. Neither of us was happy. Not a good place to be. When they were installing the carpet one of the young workman broke out in hives. Our salesman wanted me to give him medication which I would not do. Fast forward to 2022. Stopped in to see if they could NOW do the bathroom floor. That involved jack hammering out the old floor, & removing toilets and installing new vinyl plank. It was obvious the gentleman, now the only salesperson there, remembered the difficulty we had before. He was a bit standoffish, but came to look at the project, made what I interpreted as rather unkind remarks about the bathrooms. Before he came I made certain he understood we do not wear shoes on the new carpeting. He made the comment he does not wear shoes in his home. We agreed! However when he came he kept his shoes on. By then I realized this was not going to work out for either of us. He called few days later, gave me a bid which I asked him to e-mail to me since I was driving and unable to write down the figures. Nothing came. I went to Carpet One-had excellent service-they demoed out the floor, removed both toilets, installed beautiful new vinyl plank, REPLACED both toilets at 1/2 the cost Empire Floors quoted me (from what I could recall while driving). Empire Floors has been around a long time, with excellent reviews. Something transpired in that 2019 update in our home that made for an uncomfortable meeting in 2022. Unfortunate. Bottom line get quotes from other companies, not just one. Things change, people move on, in business you're only as good as how you treat your customers. Friends have had good service at Empire, thats why we went there. In comparison to Carpet One there is absolutely no comparison. Every salesperson at Carpet One made every part of this new bathroom floor exceptional. Plus they had many more options to chose from. read more

We engaged Empire to refurbish the hardwood floors on first floor through out the house that were damaged during the fires in fall 2019. They sent out a representative to prepare an estimate within one day and were able to get in very quickly to do the work after their representative sent out the fee estimate. The work was completed on schedule and they did a great job. We would use Empire again without question and recommend them to anyone needing work done on hardwood floors. read more

Ray Cataldo was fantastic at helping us with Shaw Classic Regal Oak Laminate flooring and Shaw Soft Shadow carpet and pad in the bedrooms. We purchased a new home in Novato and got several quotes to re-finish the hardwood floors. Empire Floors had the best pricing and Richard was easy to deal with, he met my short time frame with ease and never let me feel like I was asking for too much. I made a phone call for a quote and was told I would get a call back, never received one. Went into the store. The help and knowledge was wildly mediocre at best but I read reviews that this was a good company so I still scheduled an appraisal. A guy comes out to my house and once again was not the most knowledgeable person nor helpful with questions. After he was done he gave me a card and said he would give me a call that day or the next. Never received a call. Over two weeks later I received an email asking if I had made a decision. They might be good at laying floors (I wouldn't know, we never got that far) but terrible customer service and punctuality. I would recommend elsewhere. read more

We went with Empire Floors because of their quick response time and affordable price on sanding our main floor. We actually found an old sales receipt from them when we first moved into the home (13 years ago), and the price at that time was pretty close to what we just paid in July 2016. Some minor negative points had to do with the job completion; lots of sanding dust and some areas where tape wasn't removed from the baseboards. They did a great job of fixing some cracks in between planks of wood and the finish was very nice. Attractive to potential buyers. read more

Second time I have used Empire Floors to install new hardwood floors. In both instances, I have been impressed by their professional approach. Ray Cataldo shows up on time for the estimate. Crew shows up every day on time. Really appreciated the caution provided by the crew during this Covid challenge. Masks & social distance while working on site. Also appreciated the neatness of the crew. At the end of every day, the rooms were swept & vacuumed . Baseboards were removed during installation & reinstalled to perfection. The first time Empire Floors in Novato did our hardwood floors, they used a product called Traffic by Bona. We had that floor for 11 years without any problems whatsoever. When they refinished our floors last year, they used a different product. I can guess why they changed. Our floors are just about a year old, and they have hundreds of scratches and look horrible. Their answer was that the reason it scratched is because we are dragging something causing the scratches and they are mostly in the rooms we live in. They also sited shoes as possibly being the reason. This is bull. They never ever took for responsibility for it possibly being the finish they used. I even spoke to the product specialist and he told me there were better finishes than the one Empire Floors used on our floors. The reason we put hardwood flooring in was so that we didn't have to run around like we are walking on eggshells. We want to live in our house. I would suggest you go elsewhere for your hardwood floors and make sure they use a finish you can live on. read more

Crew, Juan and Pablo, were professional, started on time, took few brakes and never left before that day's task was completed and we were satisfied. The guys are professional, experienced full time employees of Empire, not contractors. They used "state of the art" equipment, dustless sander, power device for moving heavy furniture, and top quality supplies and wood. Do these things make a difference? Absolutely! This is the 2nd flooring job Empire has done for us. The first, same outcome, was a different house 7 years ago. NOT SURE HOW THIS REVIEW WAS REMOVED.. 2/2009 They might be a local company and I am all for local businesses, but going with a big box like Home Depot would have been a better experience. I am going on three weeks with no carpet because the first batch was defective. They did not find this out until they pulled out half of my old carpet. Is it there fault, that the carpet was defective? No but they could have and should have ordered new carpet and got it in stock within 2-3 days. Original install date was 2-4-09 and it won't get finished until 2-17 or 2-18. In the mean time, I don't have a livingroom or kitchen. Sleeping on the floor... Yeah, not a great experience. read more

They were extremely nice, helpful and insightful in guiding us to what would be best for us in our home (i.e., deciding on color, style, pet-proof, heavy traffic, etc.). I knew that I wanted to work with Jeanette at the Novato location of Empire floors when I first met her. It took me a year to find the laminate and carpet that I wanted but it was worth the wait. I can't believe that Jeanette is not the owner because the service she provides could not be more professional, if the business were her own. The installers were professional and did an excellent job. When the flooring was taking longer than expected, the installer offered to return on Sunday to complete the job which he did. It could not have been possible to get better service and the flooring is gorgeous. Pretty hard to find a business that is run so well. read more

This is overdue, but in August I bought my first house and was on a tight timeline of getting work done. I had 10 days before move in to do many things, including redo the floors in 2 bedrooms where carpet had been. Many of the people I talked to sounded good, but were backed up for weeks. Jon came out looked at my floors, gave me a fair estimate, and fit my incredibly tight, ridiculous timeline. The end result? My floors are beautiful and a good match to the already existing hallways. We have been doing remodeling in our homes and recently replaced all the carpet, over 3000 sq ft. with the most beautiful hardwood from Empire Floors. We also replaced some of the carpets in another home as well. The service we received was excellent and we are so happy with the finished products, hand scraped maple flooring and our new carpets. The installation of both was impeccable. Everyone we had contact with at Empire Floors from sales to the installers was helpful, professional, and courteous. A test of how good a company is to do business with is the length of time all the employees have worked there. Their employees have all been there long-term and happy to be working for them.
