Shrimp Fried Rice it's the best. The Pearl is hard to find and does not look that impressive inside. BUT! The prices are reasonable, the portions are huge and orders are filled fast (takeout only). Ordered for 2 and we are still eating 3 days later, this food is really good.

Stopped by this place with a pretty and ordered the mapo tofu, Singapore noodles, lo mien, fried pork, beef noodles, shrimp fried rice, etc. The portions were pretty huge especially for the price and the food was really tasty particularly the fried pot stickers. The manager was also really accommodating considering how large our group was and he was on crutches with a pretty gruesome looking foot injury.

Nothing we ordered was good. No flavor and good had a gritty texture to it. I am not ordering again.

This place has disgusting food. My food was way over cooked and wonton soup was disgusting. Waste of money. Rice was dried out as well.

Conveniently, we are in town for a couple days and our hotel is just right down the road. It was only right to mark this joint off my SLC food list. We came in around 5 and it was empty. My MIL and I picked a booth by the windows. I enjoy seeing the buzz of this city. It's was chaotic outside but so chill inside. It was nice to have the joint to ourselves. Jay served us tonight. He dropped off a couple menus and got some waters started for us. It was my MIL's first time trying Vietnamese cuisine. It took her a minute to breeze over the menu. As much as I wanted everything, I started off with a cup of the hot and sour soup. For dinner I got the black bean shrimp with veggies. My MIL decided on the bun thit nuong with cha gio. Last minute my MIL decided on some hot and sour soup too. They were dropped off first and it was perfect for hot soup on this cold winter day. The broth was thick and flavorful. It had hearty pieces of tofu, water chestnuts and bamboo shoots. The soup had a good heat to it. The heat didn't hit you right away, it gradually got spicier the more you ate it. My mouth was burning towards the end of my bowl. It was good but it could have been a bit more sour. My plate of black bean shrimp and veggies came out hot! The veggies looked fresh and colorful. The shrimp were plump. And the sauce smelled flavorful and salty from the fermented black bean. You can tell my dish just came out fresh from the wok. The veggies and shrimp were so hot! The shrimp were perfectly cooked. The zucchini, green peppers and bamboo shoots were my favorite. All the veggies were covered in sauce, probably the best way to eat your veggies. I ate the whole plate! I'm not the biggest fan of water chestnuts and I even polished those off. My dish was fantastic. Jay did a great job serving us tonight. He was patient and attentive. He checked up on us several times even though he was so busy with to go orders. The location of this joint was so convenient. Even though it was freezing out, it was cool to walk to dinner. But it's also got to know they have parking available for their guests. Jay did a great job taking care of us tonight. And the food was spot on. I still have quite a few places I need to hit up when I'm in SLC but if we stay in the area again, I will have to hit up Red Lotus again. It was hands down a great meal and experience.

There's a small bar area too. For drinks, we had a soda and I ordered sweet tea. Had I known the tea was bottled I would've ordered something else. It has lemon in it and it's not my fancy. For starters, we had the fresh spring rolls and egg rolls. The spring rolls are pretty straight forward with fresh mint also. The egg rolls were a little different from what we'd consider traditional but they were good. I also had the sweet n sour soup which was good. The Peking wings were crispy and piping hot on the inside. Would absolutely order again. The shrimp pad thai was sweet and delicious.

Disappointing Experience - Food Quality & Service…read more I've been to Mi La Cai Noodle House before, but unfortunately, my most recent experience was very disappointing. I ordered the wonton soup, and the pork wontons did not taste right to me. I let the gentleman who was helping us know about the issue, and he told me, "Let me see with my manager what I can do for you." To be clear, I wasn't asking them to take the soup off my bill or give me anything for free. I simply wanted to see if they could provide a little more meat so I could finish my bowl. I thought that was a reasonable request, especially since I had already explained that the pork wontons didn't taste right. Unfortunately, the gentleman never came back to our table, and the manager never stopped by or spoke with us at all. We ended up paying the full bill, and no one even apologized or offered any kind of resolution. When the host later asked how everything was, I explained that the wonton soup wasn't as good as I expected. She simply said, "Oh, sorry." While I understand that mistakes happen, it felt like a very dismissive response, especially after we had already brought the issue to their attention. I honestly feel like the food quality at this restaurant has gone downhill. What disappointed me even more was the lack of customer service and follow-through. If a customer takes the time to politely bring up an issue, I would expect someone from management to at least come to the table and address it. Unfortunately, after this experience, I won't be coming back. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously because I used to have a much better impression of the food and service.

This tastes like mom's kitchen if mom had a high flamed gas stove. The dishes that benefited from that smoky hot wok flavor had it. I was so excited to eat I forgot to take pics of all the dishes at the table. Green beans with garlic was so tasty, I finished the leftovers the same night, I remembered to take a photo in the takeout container. The cauliflower (I don't know the actual name but it's stir fried, spicy and comes with peppers) had wok hei and I couldn't stop eating it. Beef rolls is the sophisticated auntie of the scallion pancake. Think of it like an asian burrito with thin sliced beef, fresh scallion and cilantro, and a touch of hoisin all hugged together with a crispy tasty scallion pancake. The shredded potato tastes like the best potato salad that isn't your picnic potato salad. The shredded potatoes were quickly blanched then stir fried preserving the crunch and crispness similar to al dente pasta. Seasoning was on point. The homiest flavor came from the stewed short rib. The rib pieces were braised in a soy and star anise sauce like what you find in Taiwanese beef noodle soup. The peels potatoes were cut rustically and just cooked through and not mushy. Authentic flavors and freshness like this is so so hard to come by. I can taste the quality of the ingredients used. One tip I have for selecting authentic food is by looking at the customers. If the customers are all Asian eating at an Asian restaurant, you know the food is going to be good. Service was 10/10, waitress was super polite and stopped by to chat with us about the food and SLC. I am from out of town but I grew up eating at NYC Asian restaurants and this is as good as if not better. I can honestly say I recommend this place without hesitation. I understood why this restaurant has built such an incredible reputation. The flavors instantly reminded me of the authentic Chinese food I grew up enjoying in Venezuela--bold, perfectly balanced, and absolutely unforgettable. Every dish was so good and flavory. The restaurant itself is small and has that old-school charm, but don't let its appearance fool you. This is the definition of a hidden gem. Now I completely understand why this restaurant has been recognized by CNN and why it has earned a place among the Top 50 Chinese restaurants in the United States. The quality, authenticity, and consistency are evident in every bite. Whether you're ordering through DoorDash or dining in, do yourself a favor and try this place. Honestly, everything I tasted was exceptional, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the entire menu. One of the best Chinese food experiences I've had in years. An absolute hidden gem that deserves every bit of recognition it has received. P.S. I'm a professional food photographer, so I photograph and taste food almost every day. During my visit, everyone I saw working there was Chinese, and the staff was friendly and professional. I don't know why some reviews claim there are Mexican workers--it honestly seems like an attempt to damage the restaurant's reputation.
