A quiet spot in the alley way in downtown SLC with good flavor and spices. The potstickers were very yummy and I should have just had that. But O was hungry and one of the few restaurants open past 9:00 pm on a Saturday night. The gal did a good job taking orders, waiting on tables, and doing it all. Nice vibe inside but there was a street fest going on, so I think most people dining came from that. More people kept trying to come in, but they were technically closed. So the gal allowed them to order to go. Finally had a chance to come back for a full meal tonight before an Eccles performance! They are open Sunday nights for dinner, which most places on Regent Street are not. My husband and I shared the Chili Cucumber appetizer and the Mapo Tofu. Both were delicious and flavorful! Definitely on the spicier side, but we both like the spice! I also got the Matcha Milk Tea with boba again, because I liked it so much the first time! Service was good, although I think they were understaffed. They were all running around to help everyone and luckily most diners were patient. Chinese Bistro was recommended as a fair-value dinner when in Salt Lake City for an event. Service was friendly and lightning fast-- they are mostly assembling dishes from ready-cooked ingredients. So I'm glad I didn't try out the Mapodofu, as now I'd be concerned that the tofu and pork mince would not be sufficiently sauce-simmered together. The seasonings and broths were authentic tasting yet the cooked-ahead yellow peas, for ex, weren't heated up-- though very nice ingredient to find on the menu. Proteins were tender and tasty, but the pleasantly chewy refrigerator ramen-style noodles are only adequate. The kitchen will make it as spicy as you want (we went with the lowest level) and while pleasant and flavorful, with still a little zing, some chili oil and crunch (like sesame seeds, more scallion, etc) at table-side would have helped overcome the average noodles. I've been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally had the opportunity after being downtown in the evening. It's tucked away on a street with no free parking in the area that I could tell. This can be a deterrent for most but I was committed! Service was quick and friendly and the restaurant was open and airy with plenty of seating. It looks like they probably get a lot of to go orders from the surrounding area. They specialize in Taiwanese food, particularly noodle soups and dumplings. I ordered the Chengdu noodle soup and an order of pork dumplings. They kindly made a separate bowl for my daughter that wasn't spicy which my daughter slurped up happily with the children's chopsticks they provided to her. The noodles tasted freshly made, the broth, light and spicy with chewy, flavorful bits of beef along with plenty of bok choy for some crunch. The portions were huge and we had plenty to take home. We discovered Chinese Bistro when walking down Regent Street heading to a show. It looked nice and quiet. We stopped in for dinner and were immediately sat and brought waters. The have a wide variety of noodle bowls and also chicken wings. We ordered the Golden Soup Chicken Noodle and the Chengdu Beef Noodle. Our food came out promptly and on a cold evening these noodle bowls were the perfect comfort food. Full of flavor and freshly prepared. Both bowls were well stocked with meat making them quite a hearty dinner choice. The Chengdu Beef had a bit of a spice to it but I enjoyed the flavor.
