Portions here are generous, you definitely won't leave hungry. But the food itself lands somewhere in "okay" territory rather than memorable. A lot of dishes felt like they were missing depth of flavor, more like a quick fast food take on Chinese food than something made with real care. Nothing was bad exactly. It's a fine option if you're starving and want a big plate of food fast. But if you're looking for the kind of place that transports you with rich, layered flavors, this isn't quite it. As my time in SLC is coming to an end, my goal is to eat as much as I can at all the local joints before I head home where we don't have all these fun options. My sister and I were actually looking up dinner options last night while we were at dinner. We like to plan ahead. We wanted some chow fun, did some research and found Beijing. This joint is about 10 minutes away from our Airbnb. We pulled up, walked in and was in awwww at how pretty this joint is. It was bright, colorful and beautifully decorated. It's one of the prettiest Chinese restaurants I have seen in town. It was slow so my sister and I got sat right away. We ordered our hot tea and dinner at the same time. I got the chow fun with chicken. I was hoping for fried tofu but it wasn't an option. My sister got the chow fun special which came with chicken, beef and shrimp. We were sipping on our tea for a bit and our food was already done. Mannnnn did our chow fun look amazing! You can smell the char from the wok. The noodles looked chunky. There was a lot of chicken, sprouts and onion through out the dish. It was a beautiful plate of chow fun. The noodles were chewy and soft. The chicken was velveted so it was tender and soft. The sprouts and onion added a nice crunchy element to the dish. It was savory. It was a hearty plate of noodles and honestly my sister and I probably could have shared a plate. I ate about a third of it and still have a a whole to go box container for tomorrow. I will be finishing that box even if it takes a couple days to complete. It's too good to waste. The staff was really nice here. The venue is clean, bright and modern. The chow fun they pushed out today was stellar. It was one of the best meals I have had in SLC. I'm happy my sister and I found this joint. I'm supposed to come back in April. This will be a joint I'll have to hit up when I do. Beijing Restaurant is my go-to Chinese restaurant in SLC. Tucked away in Sugarhouse behind some construction, it's best to drive North on 700 E and make a right by the Beans & Brews. After it opened, I brought a group of my friends to try out the dishes. The restaurant is clean and spacious, and the service is fast and friendly. My friends loved every single dish, with the green beans, cumin lamb, and spicy boiled fish as the highlight. I've returned and tried more dishes including mapo tofu, eggplant, Mongolian beef, and sesame chicken. Everything has been tasty with the exception of a couple inconsistencies. My only complain is that the green beans are sometimes stale and the cumin lamb is sometimes hard to chew. Definitely pay it a visit if you're looking for a great Chinese restaurant! read more

Quick fast service- we ordered and food came out hot and fresh. The inside of the restaurant is cute and very clean. Servers are quick and friendly and very attentive. The parking can be a little tight since the plaza it's in had a lot of different places. Great portion sizes although I was expecting the food to be a little spicier. Absolutely delicious dinner tonight!! My husband and I shared all the dishes, plus I had a cup of oolong tea, which they refreshed with more hot water. We started with #11, Szechuan Picked Vegetables. Very spicy!! They were good, but I might not order again. #54 Sautéed Shredded Cabbage was my favorite!! Spicy, but in a flavorful way. #58 Eggplant in House Garlic Sauce actually wasn't that spicy, which was okay since our other two dishes were spicier. We also got a side of rice. Even though the portions were fairly large, my husband and I were able to finish everything, I think partly due to the fact that all of the dishes were really light. A really refreshing meal! My third time visiting this restaurant since I have been in Montreal last Saturday. This doesn't happened to me often, usually, I will visit 2nd time is already really weird. 3 times in a row does say something that this restaurant is worth to try. I ordered Singapore noodles, stir -fir vegetables on my first visit, the chef well for simple dish like this. Came back the next day to try their lobster, fried rice and same stir fir vegetables, surprisingly, the lobster is really tasty.. My third visit to the restaurant, their standard hasn't been changed. Not sure will that be too much to play my 4th visit before heading back to my hometown. Worth to come and try. The environment wasn't perfect at least they are clean. read more

This food tastes legit. I used to live in Los Angeles and would go to San Gabriel Valley a lot. I also just got back from China. It's one of the only places in Utah that tastes authentic. There are some American Chinese food options on the menu so if you're looking for something legit, stay away from anything with bell peppers. I love getting the cold noodles and the green beans. I don't eat meat and neither of these have meat. Green onion pancake was just ok. Highly recommend if you are looking for good Chinese food in Utah! read more

Great northern style Chinese food. All very flavorful and spot on to what we were expecting. We made the mistake and ordered a lot of fried meats and no "cleaner" dishes with veggies so it was a heavy meal. The eggplant was good, but pretty much sitting in a huge bowl of oil haha. The shredded pork dish with mantou was a table favorite (and we got it because other tables srpund us ordered it too). Service was SUPER fast for the first night of CNY. Inside was clean and confortable, with good lighting and decor. Overall, if you like Northern Chinese food, this place does the flavors right. I've been here a few times. They're super fast. Food is out to you 5 minutes after ordering. I've tried the eggplant, frog, chongqing chicken, green bean chicken, kung pao chicken, osmanthus jelly, and general tsos. The kung pao is really good and has a noticeable amount of black vinegar, which I love. Chongqing and frog were spicy, tender, and crispy - would recommend. Green beans are soft, but a little crispy on the edges, so good! The General Tsos was just average. Overall, really solid place and they're open until 10pm which is great. This place was recommended as a top spot for authentic Chongqing chicken and mapo tofu, and it did not disappoint. They call it 'tofu in house special spicy sauce' so I might be misnaming something, but both dishes were delicious and packed with spice. There was plenty of food, so we ended up boxing the tofu, and it held up really well for leftovers. I'll definitely be coming back. Really solid, authentic Sichuan Chinese fare in the heart of the Sugarhouse district. Sadly, the ubiquitous road construction on 2100 South makes it a bit difficult to access, but it's definitely worth the effort. There is ample parking in a private off-street lot once you arrive at the restaurant. Fiery Sichuan flavors and an uncompromising authenticity (lots of offal on the menu) won't make this spot appeal to all palates, but if you love spicy food, you should eat here! I've tried the fried dumplings, mapo tofu, boiled beef and Mongolian beef and all were very good. The one notable miss were the wontons in chili oil---for some reason, the wontons were a gloppy mess and the chili oil lacked flavor depth. As others have commented, the prices at Bei Jing are higher (roughly $20-25) than at comparable establishments, but the quality and quantity of the food makes it still a reasonable cost. It's a new, clean restaurant and the service is competent, if a bit indifferent. I've made Bei Jing a regular in my dining rotation. read more

Great new Chinese restaurant with authentic dishes. There's surprisingly plenty of seating for what appeared to be a small restaurant from the outside. Parking is also plentiful. Service is efficient. We ordered the lemon crispy shrimp, the boiled beef szechuan beef and a chicken lo mein. The portions were huge but prices are on the steep side for Chinese food. The shrimp was essentially over $1 a piece. Hard to fathom when living in Houston, tx, it was rare to see a dish hitting $15. Phenomenal Chinese restaurant, easily among the top 3 in Salt Lake. Skip the panda express dishes and get the spicy fish with pickled vegetables and garlic pea shoot leaves! Among my favorites is also the pepper chicken, but there's so much on the menu that it's gonna take some time to go through it all. Week-to-week there's a little inconsistency with how some items are prepared, but they're always good, and what's more: the takeout is always lightning fast! Like seriously, 10 minutes for a whole 5 dishes! Everything's priced right, the portions are big, and the place is open until 10 (pretty rare for salt lake). The food, as it should be is the main star at this joint. If you want as close to authentic Chinese food as you can get, try this spot out. Everything had such good flavor and quality. The inside is nice/decorated hip. Service was not great but the food makes up for it honestly. There were a bunch of servers sitting around but once we had our food, no checking on us or coming by to bring the bill/ask for to go boxes. I want to try other dishes but will be ordering the kung pao chicken and wontons again. The fish maw soup is prob the best I've had in Utah so far as well. This is a really upscale smaller authentic Chinese restaurant (won't find large circle tables for more than 10 people, mostly booths and some tables). We enjoyed all the dishes but were a little disappointed we had to pay extra for rice, and that the $18 beef dish was mostly onions. Besides that, happy with service who continually refilled our water and everything was fast. The inside feels very modern Chinese and I enjoyed the cleanliness of the restrooms and restaurant. I recommend the fried buns with pork (25), but I wish they served it with something besides raw onions, perhaps some freshly spiraled cucumbers? Or maybe make it an option to have grilled onions with it. The chow fun was a very generous portion with plenty of meat, which the Mongolian beef wasn't, it should have been called onions with a sprinkle of Mongolian beef (ha!). The tofu with special sauce was made with a numbing spice which we weren't used to, it wasn't overwhelming but I'd stay away if you don't like numbing spices. The restaurant makes everyone feel very Chinese when the existing place settings don't have forks. I'd suggest having bowls and spoons and forks for everyone, especially if they're eating family style. The just plates was too American for me but the chopsticks was a redeeming factor. read more

Looking for something a little different and fun to try while traveling in Utah this week and came across Beijing Restaurant nearby where I'd been shopping. With all the construction and the placement of the building it's pretty hard to spot. If you didn't know it was there you would probably miss it without online help or walking. Don't let the outside fool you. The vibe is pretty nice inside and more room that I'd thought it would hold. Service was ok, but not over the top. I think part of the issue was a bit of a language barrier. No biggie it would never deter me from trying something new. We were seated quickly, drink order taken and given time to look over the menu. Definitely some authentic dishes. Some I'm not yet brave enough to try. I started with cucumber salad which looked blah, but flavor was on point and cucumbers crisp. I typically order cucumber salad with sushi but this version had garlic. It was very good and portion large, our table ordered sweet and sour chicken dinner portion, pan fried pot stickers, broccoli and beef and black pepper chicken both lunch specials. I loved the portion size of the lunch special and that it came with a pot stickers and a spring roll. Flavor was on point. My cousin actually had to take a huge to go container home because her dinner portion was massive. I'll definitely come back to try other things on my next trip.
