I love coming here and getting a drink with my friends and the food is always spot on! However, the staff are not very friendly and can come off aggressive to their customers (mainly the male staff) and it makes me and my friends uncomfortable. Today, was probably one of the least enjoyable experiences with this place. My friend and I had gotten food and drinks on the patio and the staff was amazing and did a great job at checking in on us. When we were leaving we went through the patio gate, because we were parked on the side. My friend, from out of town, accidentally left the gate open and I had noticed (within seconds) so I started walking back to turn it around. As I was walking back to shut it a middle-aged male said "c'mon, shut the gate" in a very antagonistic and rude tone. I am not sure if he was another customer or an employee sitting out there. I am fairly young and so is my friend, so it was frightening and made us very uncomfortable especially since you don't know what a person will do. I kept my mouth shut as I was closing the patio gate, because I did not want anything to escalate further from that, but it really rubbed me the wrong way. read more

As far as college town burger/bar fair goes, this place is pretty darn good. The tots are crispy and it's clear they change out their oil on the regular because they've never had that bitter taste. The burger options are plentiful, and the domestics are cheap. I opted for a double burger, but the meat isn't quite flavorful enough, so it throws off the flavor profiles. Corn nuggets and fried pickles are tasty apps. Like I said, the fryer oil is fresh, so any fried options will be tasty. Make sure you place your order at the bar. While there are waitresses-a-plenty, they aren't about the food-order life. read more

Although I've been living in Hays for about 6 months and only about 2 blocks from The Golden Q, I didn't eat there until today. OH WOW! This is as good as bar food gets. big, filling burgers with no frills. Wonderful chili cheese fries. And although I didn't try a beer, I could see the bottles were kept on ice, not in an ice box or fridge. Price was very good, 3 of us ate there with burgers and fries (2 double cheese burgers, one single...all had fries one with chili and cheese, all water to drink) for under $10/person. That's a huge plus for me. It's an up to date sports bar motif with several flat screen TVs and the current Big 12 teams (this may seem minor to some, but if you market yourself as a sports bar, keep up on the Big 12 teams, they do). Minor complaint, for a sports bar only a couple of blocks from a local college campus, very little "local swag". Minor minor complaint, not a deal breaker. Another downside is the location. It works for locals but puts travlers at a disadvantage. Seek it out though, highly recommend. read more

Very disappointed. Since the new management this place has gone down hill fast. Our cheeseburgers had nothing but cheese on them - no pickles, no onions, no ketchup, nothing like they used to. They messed up our fries order and the buns were soaking wet on the bottom of our burgers. We all feel sick to our stomachs tonight so just praying we didn't get food poisoning. read more

Ok the Q has the best Berger's in Hays you can ask most people here and they say it's amazing the best Berger there is the mushroom Swiss Berger I highly recommend the Q it gets five stars read more

The Golden Q is a restaurant with a great atmosphere. Although the food doesn't blow you away it's better than some of the places I've been to. Lines can be pretty long if it's on a super busy night. Most of the time, it's not terribly long lines. I don't know if they sanitize the pool cues or not, to stop the spread of COVID, but the tables are wiped up after every party leaves. read more

We visited the Q as we do every holiday we are home. Today the meal was, honestly, the worst I have ever had there. We waited 90min for our order. I don't always mind a wait if the counter, or wait staff, at our inquiry, would have warned us. They were busy but I have seen them way more busy. I had several small children with us and we arrived at 12:30pm in hopes of missing the rush. I can manage kids better if a heads up were given. Even my 6yr old said "mama, this cheeseburger is hurting my teeth". Two wait staff inquired how we were doing, both were told (politely) of our disappointment to which the response was "sorry, it's a bad day here" despite commenting on the hard burger and cold fried green beans and French fries. Not the exit to Hays, or our traditional Q stop, I was hoping for. My dad inquired about a "beer while we are waiting, since it's been over 45min so far" to which the wait staff said "sorry about that, it will be $3". I can swallow a bad experience with some level of compensation or a manager approach after two negatives to wait staff when they asked. Not sure if they changed their burger supplier, got a new cook or what happened but today may make it difficult to try again, despite doing this for 20years. Since opening back up, the food quality and service has been seriously lacking. Our Fries were cold, my wifes burger was under cooked, and it took 45 minutes to get our cold undercooked food. Additionally, trying to get a cold one was next to impossible. This used to be a decent place to eat in town, but there are far better options now, for less money, and with far superior service. Went in tonight to pick up some family members who had been drinking for several hours. I am 24 and when asked to get my ID, instead of walking out in the rain I told the guy I hadn't been drinking (which was true as I had just come from school) and that I was only there to pick people up. He made a scene and told me I had to get my ID or get out. Usually good food and nice people, but tonight REALLY set me off. He is there most every night and needs to learn to not be such an asshole....Very dissapointed. Never going back. I have never been to the Q. I've heard they had really good burgers so I decided to try it. I called in a to go order and the lady was really nice on the phone. When I walked in they weren't that busy, so i assumed someone would be there to help me or tell me where to go. Since I had never been there I just stood there while the staff just look at me and kept on walking. Not once did the staff greet me or ask me if there was something I needed. I finally saw someone checking out so I walked over and got my order. After getting home I was rather disappointed with the food. I have been here three different times. During game day it is packed, I couldn't even find a place to sit for about a good 15 minutes. The food is reasonably prices along with the alcohol. There are weekly and monthly specials that are pretty good and are sometimes cheaper then stuff on the menu. Great place to hang out with friends or watch the game. This might not be a good place for a date but it depends on the date. I have had several different burgers and all have been good, even as left overs for the next day. I ordered over the phone for my boyfriend and I. They specifically asked me if I wanted any dipping sauce, I told them ranch. And so when I get home, I'm pulling the food out and there's no ranch!! They specifically asked me if I wanted any dipping sauce and then didn't even give it to me! I only asked for ranch because I didn't have any at home! I will continue to go to dine in, but I highly doubt I will ever call in an order again. I wouldn't have been so frustrated if I had asked them for it instead of them asking me, but THEY asked me!! The Q is a great place to watch the game or grab a few beers with friends. This is usually where we go when we want to go out on a Friday or Saturday night but don't want to be in the typical bar scene. It is 21+ after 10:00pm and kitchen closes before that. Lots of places to sit with small or larger groups. I wouldn't go in here if you are looking for a quite intimate place to hang out. Definitely a sports bar dive feel, always people you know in there! Would recommend for that good, greasy bar food when you are craving it. read more

I recently visited the Q...a place that I had frequented in college and a few times into my adult life. This time I had my wife and kids with me. To get to the point, the place was packed on a Saturday (which we should have known better) But we still knew we could get a good, greasy cheeseburger and fries, and get back on the road for our 2 hour drive home. After waiting in line for 20 mins. to order, we sat and waited for AT LEAST an hour for our food. We simply had 3 burgers and 3 fries. The food came out cold and stale. I told the waitress 3 times that we weren't interested in paying for it, and finally the manager came out and provided us with a $25 gift card which I appreciated. I will say though, this was not the good old fashioned cheeseburger on sesame seed bun that I recently had not even a year earlier. Something has changed and it's not for the better. Like I said, maybe they were just so busy that they couldn't handle it, but for this visit, they get 2 stars. I MIGHT give em another shot. read more
