We pass through Hayes on our way to and from Denver every summer and a trip to Hays is never complete without a visit to Thristy's. It's one of the highlights during a long drive. Tonight. my wife again enjoyed the orange glazed salmon and I again had the big pig tail (aka a pork tenderloin smothered in a peppered gravy. Wide variety from down home options like chicken fried steak, steaks, seafood, sandwiches, pasta etc. something for everyone it's family friendly in a fun atmosphere. Seems like every time I'm in Hays I stop in Thirsty's for the great food n service. This trip had the giant Pig Tail with Mac n cheese and the mash potatoes. Also had an appetizer of fried pickles. Everything was great and the pig tail was huge enough to share with a co-worker lol. It is an interesting decor and makes you want to have fun. Wow! This place is delicious! We waited 30mins for a seat. This was a great sign to see so many locals waiting to eat here. The other place that we were planning on trying had a staffing issue so this place was next on the Yelp List of places to try in Hays, Kansas. After we were seated, our server immediately introduced herself and asked us for our drink order. She also brought us waters. We looked over the menu and it was VAST, yet American and perfect for watching the NFL Sunday games. They have a lot of TVs here. You can watch golf or football on the TVs on Sundays. We ordered: 1 Honey Garlic Boneless Wings for the starter, 1 Cowboy Burger with Onion Rings side, 1 Breaded Pork Cutlet with gravy, mashed potatoes, and caesar salad as sides. Also, an Old Fashioned cocktail and a 0% Heineken beer. There was so much food. The portions were huge. The food was VERY GOOD. I sat at the bar and order a steak, it was delicious and perfectly cooked. I got the side salad and baked beans and both were very good. The place looks as though it was originally built for something else but it makes for an interesting atmosphere. I came during a weeknight, but I bet it's very fun on the weekends, particularly if they have live music which it definitely has room for. If you are very hungry and near Hays, Thirsty's will fill you up. My husband and I each ordered a burger, and they were big. Our side salads were meh--iceberg lettuce, a couple of tomatoes and cucumber slices, and a heap of shredded cheese and croutons. The menu has a lot of offerings, and most are anything but healthy. We went with Yelp on this one and Thirsty's did not disappoint! Arrived in the area for an overnight while driving home to PA after a visit to CO. Finally, a cocktail for under $17! We liked your prices so much we each had 2 drinks and dessert too! Loved the sports bar vibe and it is clear that Thirsty's is popular with the locals. Tons of folks there at 9pm...Monday Night Football and also MLB playoff games. Our server was very attentive and the freshness of the ingredients of our chicken salads was on point. The salads were available as small or large. We aren't sure who can eat the large size salad; my husband finished his small salad, I persevered and still only managed to eat the chicken and about half of the remainder of the salad. I do not think the food here was fresh at all. I ordered wings only & from the picture, you can see the wing doesn't look fresh at all. Then there was a huge hair strand on the plate which is gross. The celery was also bad, very slimy and brownish in color. read more

Decor was wonderful, already a winter wonderland. Our server (Peyton) was amazing! I usually get two drinks and most servers can't keep up. I only ordered water and my glass was never empty. Jr sirloin with grilled shrimp for $15 is a bargain but quality was top notch. Garden salad was fresh mixed greens and the cinnamon apples were the perfect ending. Each entree was fantastic. The food is always very good. They can do it all here. Their catering is also excellent. The truck and tailgate seating in the lobby is fun for the kids. Snap a picture with the Marilyn Monroe statue on your way in. The extra large TVs make it easy to catch a game. There are many places to sit with large tables for extra large groups down to a table for two. The wait staff have always been very good each time we come. Stopped by here late on a weekend. Staff were very nice and welcoming. Plenty to choose from on the drink and food menu. Lots of vegetarian and pescetarian options. Interior definitely has a 50s and 60s theme to it... The "pink drink", a monthly special was soooo good. The vegetarian burger was pretty good. The mac and cheese dish was not too bad. Happy hour beer was a good deal and i got the Bloody Mary and asked for it spicy. It was very good and spice level was perfect. Started with corn dip as the appetizer and it was like a queso mixed with corn which i gotta say is a good combo. Stopped here on a road trip, and we were blown away. The food was delicious. I was skeptical because of the very large menu, but everything we ordered was delicious. The pork chop really stood out. It was one of the most juicy and flavorful pork chops we have had. All of the food was great, the only thing I would say that lacked was the breadstick. But, in comparison to everything else, it doesn't even need to be mentioned. The prime dip was fresh, and the green beans were seasoned perfectly. Our waitress was very friendly and the restaurant had a fun vibe to it. We went right when it opened on a Sunday and it was starting to get packed by the time we left. I am not surprised! We went there with Mom-in-law about a week ago on a Friday. I ordered the Prime Rib, it should have been really fresh since only served on Fri and Sat. That was the WORST excuse of Prime Rib that I have ever had. I ordered it Med and is showed up Med-Well at best. 1/3 of the cut was fat and it was the toughest chewy steak that I have ever had. Ribeye, sweet potato fries, side salad! If you've never had the sweet potato fry sauce you're really missing out! If you're not into steaks, it's hard to go wrong with pretty much anything on the menu. The teriyaki chicken and black and blue burger are also staples we regularly order! We had to wait for about 20 minutes to get a table for 4, which wasn't too bad. They have a lot of TVs and video games, so very family friendly. We were seated and ordered beer and mozzarella sticks to start. We had a great waitress, who was really attentive! The mozzarella sticks were crispy and filled with gooey cheese and came with marinara sauce. We all liked them quite a bit! I ordered the chicken fried chicken, my dad got the steak special (only $16!), and my stepmom got the pasta. All of our meals came with a side salad. The side salads were really fresh. Our food came out quickly. My chicken fried chicken was delicious! It was crispy, fried perfectly! My dad likes his steak really rare and said his came out perfectly! Husband and I went to Thirsty's today for lunch. We weren't sure what we would find but felt adventruous. The place is large with more than adequate seating for all. A full bar and televisions all over, including in the bathrooms. The food was delicious and prepared well. Calvin had the Orange Roughy on Wild Rice with Cole Slaw. I had the fried jumbo shrimp with garlic potatoes. Our server, Cadean, was a delight, friendly and charming. We asked if he was in college ... no but he shared the direction he was taking his life and we wish him all the best on his journey. Next time we're in Hays, we will be back. read more
