We are so thankful for Golden Rule. We were going out to lunch on Saturday and started hearing this loud grinding sound as we went down the road. We were concerned about what we should do as it was the afternoon on a weekend. I remember hearing commercials about Golden Rule so I immediately searched them and found that we were less than 2 miles away from this location. We went in and were greeted by a gentleman behind the counter. We told him the situation and he let us know that they were booked for the day but would be happy to look at it after one of the cars were completed. We were so grateful he was willing to get us in we were happy to wait. After one of the other vehicles was finished they pulled our vehicle in. They were able to determine that a rock had gotten behind the caliper and was causing the grinding sound. They removed the Rock and did a inspection to make sure there was no damage, and luckily there wasn't. They were able to determine that our tires brakes and rotors looked great and no additional work was needed. So relieved we went to the counter to see what we owed and were shocked, they weren't charging us at all. They said it was an easy fix and they were happy to help and if we need anything in the future to come back. We are so incredibly grateful for this wonderful company that puts their customers first. Golden Rule Brake - Downtown - Found this nice treat when we got our car back - Auto Repair Near Me - Spokane, Washington

New struts, control arms, bushings. They inspected the brakes at the same time and told me the rear ones need everything replaced. I do my own brakes so I knew that wasn't true to begin with. I agreed to have the suspension work done because I didn't have time to deal with it on my own. Struts and the associated parts are pretty easy to install, you just need the time to get it done. $3200. Super spendy. I can tell when my brake pads need replaced, so today was the day to do the back pair. When I went to remove the wheel I noticed the lug nuts hadn't been torqued when Golden Rule put them back on the car. Upon further inspection I noticed a bolt missing from where the caliper attaches to the caliper bracket. They are the only ones who've inspected that part. The looseness caused uneven wear of the pads and warped the rotor, which was nearly new. So this aroused my suspicion. I decided to check out if they even did the work they said they did on the suspension. I looked at the photos on the estimate and the parts they were going to use. The photos were not of my car. The parts they said they were going to use (and marked up 3x the retail price) were of much higher quality than what ended up being installed. I paid for pretty much top of the line struts and instead got bottom of the barrel struts. I'm super pissed about this and will be taking them to small claims court. They committed fraud and left my car in a less safe condition. There are lots of great, honest car shops in Spokane. When you have to run a commercial on radio every 15 minutes telling everyone how virtuous your business is, it's probably not very virtuous. I'll see you scumbags in court. So happy I decided to come here. Customer service was good from the moment I made my call.... I was nervous as I hadn't had my brakes checked in a very long time. They get booked up so plan out a week or more in advance. I dropped my car off & within 2ish hours I had a text link from them with pictures of my actual brakes, shop notes, what is needed/recommended, & pricing.... I'm not sure it gets more efficient than all that folks. I LOVE THEIR NEW SYSTEM- fast, easy, & effective... gave me time to think things through & do my own research/processing before responding all while not wasting their time on the phone or in person. If you are looking for a honest review here you go! I went in to get a brake inspection with no noise in my brakes just concerned about green color in my brake fluid. I was quoted over $2000 for new brakes front and rear plus parts, 1 ball joint needed replaced, brake fluid flush, 1 tie rod and alignment. To make a long story short, I went to Les Schwab who did my brake work 3 years ago. After Les Schwabs inspection, I needed no brakes whatsoever, the fluid was good but could get flushed and tie rod needed replaced, ball joints were good. To my surprise the brakes have alot of wear left on them.This quote was $460. Quite a difference! I believe Golden brake was looking for a sucker and the pictures they sent of worn brakes and components were not mine! Avoid Golden Brake unless you want ripped off! I live in Post Falls and I am not the only one who I have talked to that received high quotes from Golden brake for work not needed. I will tell everyone I know about this switch and bait shop Golden rule! It's a shame my Grandfather use to go to the one in Spokane they are not the same integrity as the 1960s and 1970s! read more

I was very pleased with the friendly staff here at golden rule while trying them for the first time ever due to all the posititive reviews per commercials in the area. However, after inspecting my car for brake issues at Golden Rule, I was informed of several things which were not true. I brought with me a quote from Les Schwab Tire Co for comparison, and I was told by Golden Rule that they were not able to beat their prices because Les Schwab uses inferior parts "they get the cheapest parts available and their warranty is only good for one year while ours is good for two years". I have since been informed by Les Schwab that they use premium parts only and that their warranty is good for 3 years/25,000 miles. So disappointed in Golden Rule, as I hoped their motto and sales slogan was true. Not so much. Back to Les Schwab I go!! read more

I brought my truck in to have all the ball joints replaced. $1900 because they required that I use the best parts they can grab. Charge me for an alignment saying I may need to bring it back with a different tire that isn't worn. So changed that tire and I've drove less than 200 miles. There has been a steady shake the whole time. Yesterday it developed into a hard popping so I look at it and the hardware was not torqued and has been wearing into my frame. I get there and the owner argues with me saying there is no way that could have been something they did and bolts regularly work loose in "a months time" after being in a shop. Then continues to tell me that I'm wrong for being upset that they didn't do the job right. They didn't treat my property with respect as they didn't pay attention to detail. Dropped off vehicle and was told that I still had 30% left on my brakes and did not need to do it right now, they gave me an option! No scare tactics and just gave me the facts. so I took my truck back to golden rule on Monroe because I was getting a shimmey in my brakes and they looked at it and found out that the problem was my rear brake drums needed to be turned because they were out of round and they were brand new from tune tech well they fixed the problem and they are Awsome at no charge I will definitely do business with the in the future if your looking for a great place to take your brake work to I would highly recommend them read more

The reason for four stars is the parts are marked up. I understand they have to make money but a control arm runs about $75-$100 on RockAuto.com. (Well $83) Mine was $232.71 here. plus $97.50 for them to install it. & alignment $79.95, plus it took an hour in & out so that was good their very fast. Northwest tire and automotive has alignments for $69- & the guy at Discount Tire said many customers have not been happy w/golden rule, but didn't say why. Our 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually, had a breakdown on I-90 near four lakes. We caught something on freeway taking out our front driveline, catapulted into transfer case, damaging our brake lines, fuel lines and transmission lines. We took our truck to a local shop for repairs, Amity Auto. They choose to splice our brake, fuel and transmission lines with RUBBER HOSE AND HOSE CLAMPS. Extremely dangerous as we had limited brakes. We had it inspected at Les Schwab, who helped us see what had been done. They recommended metal splice or replacement. We choose Golden Rule Brake. Anthony and Vince were absolutely amazing! Extremely comfortable with their work, as we have our great brakes back with no leaks, and safe for our family. We haul livestock, heavy loads, and are disabled so can not repair on our own. Anthony and Vince had great customer service, and sincere concern over safety, as it was a hazard with rubber hoses. One hundred percent satisfied and happy with them both! Honestly I don't know what to think. I will say they did not call me when the car was finished. I had to call them to find out it was ready and Uber it up there before closing so that the car would not be left out over night downtown. I had the car which I barely drive and has less than 75K miles on it completely looked over by Carmax (the dealer) about a year ago and they didn't take the opportunity to do over $2000.00 worth of work on pretty much everything brake and under carriage related that can be wrong lol. I don't understand how so much went wrong in a year but this is Spokane with our potholes and unpaved roads, but on the other hand it is a Subaru Outback so I didn't expect it to be completely fallen apart. I would suggest maybe being a little less casual about an old dude dropping 2K on auto repairs. It's a lot of money and it hurts. Did they think I had money? Do I look or dress like it? Dressing from Value Village doesn't pay off lol. IDK. On the other hand the car feels like new so I'm assuming they did the work and they did good work. I just don't know. I'm going to just assume they went by their "Golden Rule" policy and be well with it. If I had to do it over again I would have gone to Carmax or Subaru first gotten the estimate and then gone to Golden Rule. Also Geez guys even Jiffy Lube vacuums the carpet. I also asked if they would check a light for me which they did not mention again, I Googled it so I think I can do it myself. Best of luck to all. Edit: I do think they did call me now. And, in spite of the stellar experience, I'm always amazed when I take one of our family vehicles in, prepared for the worst case scenario, and learn that it's nothing or very little that's needed to send me on my way. Today, it was "Your pads are all good and your pulsating brakes were that your front rotors need to be turned". Out the door an hour later for barely $100. I had been hearing an inconsistent squeak in one of my front wheels. Decided to play it safe and get it checked out. I had heard golden rule brakes radio advertisement on the radio and decided to take my car there. I made an appt and stayed while they inspected it. It took about an hour and they took everything apart and couldn't find any squeak. One of the techs tried to tell me it was my stearing wheel inside my car. (Eyeroll) definitely not, what I had hear was completely different. They completed the "safety inspection" and told me Everything looked great and I was good to go. I spent the rest of this day driving around running errands, then I returned home. I woke up the next morning to drive to work and as soon as I started it I realized I had a huge problem. The ABS light, the VDC light and the SLIP light were all alluminated on my dash. I immediately called them and told them what was happening, the manager assured me that it wasn't a big deal, he told me that they had to "stretch" my calipers to get my wheels on and off and that it likely "upset" my cars computer. He said all he needed to do was reset the computer.. I dropped it off so he could look at it. He called me back within an hour to tell me that this was a completely new problem. That my rear ABS sensor had gone out. Informing me that this was a $400 PART. Not including labor. Extremely coincidental. Less then 24 hours after they informed me my car was "safe" and good to go, now it's throwing codes and has a damaged rear sensor. Without my cars VDC or ABS enabled I had no antilock brakes and the roads were horrible. My car was far from "safe". The manager was cold and unhelpful on the phone, he tried to tell me that there was absolutely no way his guys could have damaged this sensor on my car even though he was not there the previous day. He did not offer me any other options besides pay the $400+ labor. Frustrated and feeling taken advantage of, I called my fiancé and asked him to give them a call. They again explained to him that "stretching" my calipers wouldn't have damaged this sensor, but they offered to show him exactly where the sensor was and then offered a price discount on the part. (Things they never offered me) We ended up doing our own research and figuring out that the sensor is a $125 part.. and something we can replace ourselves. Luckily, because I will never ever go back to golden rule. I feel so burned by them, and now when I hear their commercials about honesty I grit my teeth. I do believe that one of the techs damaged this sensor, & then they reset my cars computer. After all my errands I had completed a drive cycle, and that's when my car registered a issue. I love Golden Rule. I recommend them to everyone! Honest mechanics are rare, and our first quote for our Escalade was over $1500 and it was for the wrong repair! They told us we needed new ball joints, but we didn't believe them so we went to Golden Rule and they told us it was actually just a leaky part that had been worn down. We used a 15% off coupon from their website and our total was under $500! And our car is completely fixed. AND they are so nice to me when I go by to ask to check my tires, it's happened twice now because of all the potholes. Great experience, will definitely be back! I originally brought my '98 GMC Sierra to the Northside/Francis location (without an appointment) to see about getting a brake inspection (it was having issues with grinding, squealing, and grabbing, as well as one of the rear drums seemed to be seizing intermittently). One of their crew (can't remember his name, sorry) was very apologetic, saying that they wouldn't be able to get to it until later that day- but, without having to wait for me to ask, immediately offered to contact the Monroe location to see if they could have it looked at right away (now that's good customer service right off the bat!). He made the call- and with that help, my truck was in one of their bays as soon as I arrived. The excellent service continued there- as Corey (and the crew on Monroe St.) was so patient and attentive in listening to what I had to say and ask of them, and in turn he was very honest about all aspects of the work that was needed and the costs involved. The work was complete well before the end of the day, and with what was needed I felt was a reasonable price (which consisted of new rear shoes & wheel cylinders, resurfaced one drum, new master cylinder, inspected/cleaned/lubricated/made adjustments on the rest of the brake system to factory specs, bled all lines, etc. for $604.00 out the door as quoted before work began). The brakes on my truck are operating as well as they ever have been, and I will not hesitate to come back (as well as referring friends and family) here to Corey and the team at GRB!!! read more

5 weeks ago I took my car to have the front brakes done at Golden Rule on my Subaru Forester. At that time the manager told me that I also needed my rear brakes and all 4 struts done. They gave me an estimate of about $1,500 for everything. I told them just do the front brakes and I get the rest done at a later time. I then went on a 1,500 mile road trip and got 4 new tires. I made an appointment at my regular mechanic, Hopkins Automotive, to have them look at the struts. Hopkins said that my struts we just fine but if I had an issue with the rattle they could do the bushings for $145, but that I did need to go get an alignment because I had just gotten the new tires. Today I went back to Golden Rule for the alignment. When I went to pick up my car and I asked if they looked at the struts, they said yes they had and they looked almost new!! I then reminded them that just a short time ago they told me I needed them replaced. But I had not had them done. The manager seem to back track and told me sometimes they are just really dirty. I told them they should know the difference between something being dirty and broken! I felt like they totally just tried to take advantage of me. Golden rule, hmm not so much. Not too impressed. Used to be more up-front and honest when dad owned the store and I went there whenever I had a brake or front-end problem, and recommended the place to family and friends. Still cannot figure out how a $543 repair bill can rack-up $499 in labor alone (yeah - the same old story; "two guys worked on my rig")...and they used MY estimate of costs and had to reimburse me $65.00 after I squawked about the high costs...and they finally found their last estimate in a disorganized pile of invoices. I have had good service in the past, but recent experiences would have me steer clear of this place, took my mustang in for an alignment and they said the ball joints were shot. Quoted me a price including alignment and then charged extra for the alignment. The front end was making a racket 6 weeks later, took it back and they failed to lube the ball joints. Suspicious me, I sent my wife to get an estimate on her Envoy because the brakes were failing, they said it needed ball joints, sway bars, rear axle seals, brake pads, rotors, etc. I replaced the pads, will probably replace the rotors and rear axle seals later. Took the car to the dealer and they could not find anything wrong with the ball joints and sway bars. Be very careful, ask probing questions, like would this wear prevent you from aligning the front end, some repairs can be put off. Dallas the owner was very concerned about this review and refunded the alignment, so you do have recourse. read more
