The food was IMMACULATE. I stopped eating Chinese food for a while after experiencing back to back disappointments at other establishments. I saw this restaurant on Uber Eats and decided to give it a try. Beef and broccoli lunch, sesame chicken, and two spring rolls. The food was piping hot by the time i received it, i live maybe 8 or so minutes away. The food was so good that it made me slow down and savor every bite. Beef & Broccoli combo: a great portion of food, worth the money. the right amount of savory sauce with the every bite. Beef texture, just a little bit fatty but i think that's usually how it tends to be no matter whose I've tried. No gristle, just different than say, a steak texture. Vegetables were Fresh and not overcooked/undercooked. I asked them to swap out the fried rice with white, which they did! And vegetable roll instead of shrimp roll. So good. Sesame Chicken with white rice: Not too sweet, just right! Hot, and asked for extra broccoli! Fresh rice. Everything was so tasty. Easily the best I've ever had. read more

Best hot and sour soup I have ever had. I agree with other reviewers who say the decor is dated. I don't come here for the decor, though. I usually order the Crispy Thai Hing Chicken. Sweet, spicy, crunchy...awesome. They have the best egg rolls and spring rolls. Oh, and the crab rangoon, flaky and delish, not hard and tough like some places. My food experience has been consistently better than other chinese restaurants, leaving this my very favorite chinese restaurant in Charles County. Edited because I forgot to mention the staff. (Give me a break, my dinner was getting cold while I typed!) They are always kind and welcoming, frequently asking how everything is or if I need anything without being invasive. I've enjoyed dining in 2 times and 1 time got take-out. The dining experience was good, friendly staff, reasonable prices and tasty cheese wontons. I could not give this location 5 stars due to the outdated decor. When you first walk up to the restaurant you almost have high expectations for the interior decor but you will be underwhelmed for sure...it is clean but a bit drab. I've been eating at this restaurant for well over 10 years, but unfortunately, the quality of their food has been going downhill. I've seen their portion sizes get smaller and their prices get higher, which is understandable. However, the food that I received yesterday was inexcusable. I ordered my regular meal which is a beef and broccoli combination platter. It comes with fried rice, wonton soup, and an eggroll. The side items were cooked perfectly. My only issue was with the beef and broccoli. Every piece of beef in my meal was raw. I cut a few pieces open, and the meat was completely pink in the inside and not even warm. When I contacted the store, the person that I spoke with said that he "was not sure what to do" in this situation. However, I came back to the restaurant and exchanged the food for a refund with no problems. The service at Golden Star is okay, but I would not recommend eating at this establishment until they hire a better chef. read more

Don't eat here! We ordered the lunch special takeout. They got the order wrong and only one meal was the luch special. My husband wasn't paying attention, so he didn't notice the extra cost. I got the twice cooked pork. It was the full sized dish. It was just thin ribbons of pork with a ton of cabbage. I have had that at other restaurants and it was never made that way. That wasn't the worst part. It tasted gross! It was inedible. My husband and I both agreed that the pork tasted like it was spoiled. The sauce had no flavor either. My husband got Hunan beef and it was meh. The sauce was odd. The egg rolls were small and barely had any filling. The only good thing is that we were able to return the twice cooked pork and we got a refund. This place is not worth trying. read more

Although I have lived in the area for nearly 20 years somehow I missed this little gem. While there are a number of Chinese places opening in the neighborhood this us, by far, the best. Yes, the decor is dated. But they seem to do a much bigger carry out ( and delivery ). And I'd rather have dated decor with awesome food any day of the week. We've had the shrimp fried rice and sweet and sour pork recently. Both were with generous portions and delicious. Their soups are tasty and the egg rolls are AWESOME. So I did not have high expectations for this place. And after eating a meal....my expectations were right. I have to agree with one reviewer...the shrimp in my shrimp fried rice was mushy. There was no bite or snap. Just mush. I also tried the Crispy Thai Hing chicken. Well it wasn't crispy but I did get this meal to go and the steam in the bag probably caused most of the damage. I also saw the Chinese equivalent of Filipino pancit noodles....there was also the general tso s chicken...I was hungry and love me some all u can eat buffets right after my p90x workouts. I thought, "hmmm four items for $6.50...still a good deal" The Chinese waiter sat me down, I ordered water. Anything expectations beyond seating me and asking my beverage was her extent..I'm used to it out here. Then, like God creating Adam, a Chinese man in his 50s came out of the kitchen with 9 or 10 more items...FOOD LOTTERY JACKPOT!! Food was hot and veggies looked fresh by the greens and reds... Jalapeno chicken was fried and not overly doughy or chewy. Lomein was a perfect bed to set the entrees on. The angel hair/pancit was AMAZING! I TASTED a hint of curry. The veggie eggrolls were fried perfectly and each bite shot flaky crumbs all over the clean tables. Did NOT eat meat egg rolls bc I was severely traumatized a couple years back with something resembling nasty meat. I have meat egg roll PTSD... I filled 5 plates. My dad used to take us here for dinner on special occasions when we were younger. I can honestly say this is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants of all time, and I'm glad to see that 20-some years later it's still in business. The staff is very nice and accomodating, and the food is awesome. My favorite dishes are the wonton soup and the moo shi shrimp. I've eaten in and also ordered carry-out from here several times now and have been very satisfied except on two occasions. I don't know what happened those two times but it almost seems as though it depends on who is cooking. When it's good it's great. I'd easily give this restaurant 4 stars otherwise. Now don't get me wrong, on the two occasions it was not so good it was still very edible, just not as tasty. Still a very satisfying dining experience overall though. The worst meal i ever had, the waitress kept coming to my table asking if i liked it, but she barely spoke english and didn't understand i didn't. This place is great if you're looking for great tasting and great priced Chinese food. Their lunch buffet is nice, all you can eat for 7.99. My boyfriend and I can usually eat there for less than $20 which is great. The food isn't overly greasy like many Chinese restaurants and their service is great too. We had to flag down a person to ask for supplies and when they were finally told there was no lychee in the duck they looked at us funny and charged us full price with no apologies. Today I order spring rolls again and my daughter steak eggrolls. While my daughter was eating hers...she spit out or food bc it was something hard...she looked at it and to her horror it was a broken off fingernail!! We immediately called the restaurant and the young lady told us to bring it back and yhey will replace it. I TOLD HER ABSOLUTELY NOT!! I need my money. I asked her if the rolls were hand made and she said yes. My daughter took the remaining roll back and I remembered my uneaten chicken and broccoli and she refused to refund that. I called back and they argued with me still refusing my refund from serving me unsanitary food. I'm disgusted and will NEVER EVER EAT THERE AGAIN!!!! read more
